Selected for the Pakistan U19 squad for the upcoming World Cup, spoken highly off by Coach Ijaz Ahmed:

“I have taken some bold decisions by including a boy called Shahzad who was under my supervision in U16; Throughout all 8 practice games, he has been following my instructions and putting them into use; One should be able to learn and adopt to conditions fast and he can do that; He is an opener and a medium pace bowler and he fits in my combination well”

“As for Shahzad, I want all of you to note what I said today because after a year or so when he does well, you will remember that how he was identified as a product”

From PCB:

The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup will provide teenagers from around the world a lifetime opportunity of making an impression on the cricketing world.

Pakistan players selected for the global event are looking to make the most of the opportunity at hand and one such player is young all-rounder Muhammad Shahzad, who hails from Dera Ghazi Khan, a small town in Punjab.

Shahzad made a big career move very early in his life when he left his hometown and settled in Lahore to pursue his dream of making a big name as a cricketer.

The 14-year-old had to deal with the tragedy of his father’s death at an early age and since has committed himself to cricket as he shoulders the responsibility of his family which includes his mother and five younger brothers.

Shahzad’s first memories of playing cricket are as a nine-year-old in DG Khan. The right-armer played cricket with boys older than him and it helped in improving his game and in no time his cricket talent started getting recognised.

Shahzad on his early days, interest and ambition in cricket: “Due to lack of cricket infrastructure and facilities in Dera Ghazi Khan, I was advised to move to Lahore. I joined Pak Lions Cricket Academy two years ago and harnessed my skills there.

“Imran Khan is my all-time favourite cricketer, while Babar Azam is the one batsman that I admire from the current generation.

“I am delighted at my inclusion in the Pakistan squad for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. I am hopeful of doing well in the tournament. Head coach Ijaz Ahmed is guiding me as I am working on further improving my temperament, along with batting and bowling techniques.”

Shahzad first appeared in PCB recognised cricket when he played the PCB-Inter Regional U13 T20 tournament in 2017. He scored 178 runs in three matches with the help of two half-centuries, his best was 98 while he also took three wickets with his right-arm pace bowling.

His impressive show at the U13 level earned Shahzad a spot in the Multan U16 team for the following year’s PCB-Pepsi U16 one-day tournament in 2018/19 season. In five games he totalled 197 runs with the help of two half-centuries. His performance continued to improve as he amassed 309 runs in the PCB U16 Pentangular Tournament in the same season. He was declared the best batsman of the tournament with one century and two half-centuries to his name.

Shahzad’s consistent run earned him the attention of the selectors and a place in Pakistan U16 team that took on Australia in a one-day and T20 series in the UAE in 2019.

Shahzad justified his selection by scoring a match winning 73 not out in the only T20 match of the series.

Against Bangladesh U16 in Pakistan, Shahzad scored 72 runs in two one-day matches and 126 runs in two three-day games. His consistent run earned him a place in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup squad.

Ijaz used some good words for him. A pace bowling all rounder good enough with the bat to be an opening batsman will definitely be an interesting prospect going forward.

Sounds a good prospect.

Looking forward to the World Cup and seeing some of these future stars.

A top order batsman who bowls good medium pace could be a blessing in disguise for us.. looking fwd to seeing his videos

Our own Niel Jhonson in the making , and looks to be around 16/17 as well. Exciting times , 150k Pacer and an opener who can bowl fast!!!. Surely this worldcup is ours. InshaAllah.

A guy who is an opener and bowls medium pace woww...that is very exciting indeed!!.. I did a quick search on the pcb website to see his credentials i cant even see him playing any under 19 cricket does any body know anything?

I guess even if he is a parchi that will do as an opener and a fast bowler dont think we have ever had that in our history.

Any vidoes of his batting please

See post #1 - more information and video added

Was watching new video(PCB YT channel) of Muhammad Shehzad. He says he is 14 year old and watched his old video, he said that his DOB is 5th Febuary 2004, suddenly he is almost two years younger. Have some shame PCB.

Thanks MenIng appreciated

We desperately need an allrounder so obviously he has never played under 19s just under 16s which means its a big big ask to perform under 19 level for the kid

I hope he's under 19, but who knows.

This issue is getting out of hand.

5 February 2004 is probably his actual birth date, which would mean he is almost 16, which seems about right. Definitely not 14 though.

PCB spokesman in response to our query regarding a report in the media about Shahzad being withdrawn due to issues with age:

"Muhammad Shahzad is part of the squad. He hasn't been withdrawn"

Well this is embarrasing , it looks like PCB is involved with the age fudging process.

i dont understand...14 16 or what ever obviously he is definately under 19 so end off ...i already think he will struggle in under 19s as he hasnt played that level before but i am desperate to see an opener and pace bowler in our ranks

A player should only play one under 19 world. It discourages those who fudge their age just to get more under 19 cricket.

Do you want him to play 3 under 19 world cups?

Obviously not but he should be playing this one right?..not bothered what happens after if he is eligible and is a decent prospect should defo play

The only logical conclusion of ignoring his real age is to let him play, barring a massive dip in form, at least 3 under 19 world cups.

Match-winning, all-round captain's performance from Muhammad Shahzad for Southern Punjab vs Sindh in the National U-19 One-Day tournament.

Took 3/68 with the ball and then scored 75 in a 155-run opening partnership to help his side get the win.

He isnt 14 in that video. More like 16 at least

He’s nearly 18 now assuming they have corrected it. Though in these pics he still looks similar to his age.

74 Off 67 with the bat and 3/17 with the ball for Muhammad Shahzad against VRA (Dutch League)
