Delhi Capitals were in a spot of bother having lost the wickets of Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan and their captain Shreyas Iyer in quick succession against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a high-voltage Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 clash against in Dubai. After getting 63 runs in the powerplay, Delhi slipped and lost their way with just 39 runs in their next 7 overs.

However, former RCB star Marcus Stoinis, who has been in fine touch for Dlehi Capitals, put up a show, hutting his ex-team with a brutal display of batting. After taking Moeen Ali to the cleaners in the 14th over, Stoinis was looking set to continue and get a big one.

And Navdeep Saini gave Stoinis the perfect platform to do so. Navdeep Saini bowled length balls and full-tosses as the Australian all-rounder launched into him in the 15th over. And then came the big beamer. The ball slipped out of Saini's hands and hit Stoinis flush on the fingers.

It was called a no-ball immediately but Saini got Stoinis riled up by not apologising immediately for the beamer. A wide yorker in the following ball was sliced over the off-side fielder for a boundary.

After hitting the four, Stoinis and Rishabh Pant gave Saini a stare and seemingly reminded him that he had not apologised. However, the young RCB fast bowler quickly signalled to the two batsmen, offering his apology.

The two batsmen kept attacking Saini as the RCB quick gave away 48 runs in his 3 overs. Virat Kohli, no wonder, did not give him another over on the big day.

Marcus Stoinis went on to his second fifty of the tournament. He hit 53 not out from just 26 balls to take Delhi Capitals to 196 for 4. Delhi added 94 runs in the last 7 overs. Rishabh Pant came up with a handy contribution, hitting 37 from just 25 balls.

Earlier in the day, Prithvi Shaw was in dangerous mood as he hit 42 from just 23 balls.

Pathetic. Just looked at the scorecard. Seems to have recieved a spanking. Well served.

He got smacked all round the park for 48 runs in 3 overs, including 5 fours and 3 sixes.

And look at the attitude :)

Embarrassing.

Looks like a village boy trying to adapt to rural "cool" kids life style. I saw a photo of his shoe which had "F** it Bowl Fast !" written on it. Im sure Mitchel Johson once had that written on his shoe. Just you be you, don't try to be someone you are not.

The wannabe Aussie attitude that a lot of Indian cricketers show on full display here...

I understand the need to be competitive and at times ruthless but this is taking things too far. The IPL has made the Indians feel they own the rest of the world.

Reminds me of the incident where Dhawan was making fun of Watson's hamstring injury who was struggling running between the wickets

I was watching this, he apologised the next ball when Stoinis smashed him for 4 and chased after him.

Shoaib Akhtar was the true daddy of express bowlers, but even he had enough decency to check up on batsmen who he bowled Beamers to or decked with horrendous bouncers. Navdeed Saini has done NOTHING of note at international cricket yet and he thinks he is too good to apologise after a Beamer

What a non issue honestly like come on first of all it was accidental second why does he even need to apologize it’s not a big deal it happens like seriously guys stop pin pointing silly childish things and making a issue out of it

It could have broken the batsmen’s hand or worse hit him right in the neck or Collar bone. Ending his IPL, putting him out for some time and struggling to get back into cricket. Such things matter a lot.

I know this is from a local Indian t20 tournament but hopefully he still gets fined at the least.

Not a big deal? he's bowling 135+ kph and bowling an illegal ball (whether intentional or not), he could've broken bones, or even killed him. All if took was a Sean Abbot bouncer to kill Phillip Hughes, and Abbot was not even an express bowler.

I remember Nixon Mclean did the same thing to Wasim Akram hurting his finger in 2000. Wasim had none of it and immediately launched a foul mouth tirade against the bowler forcing the then WI captain Jimmy Adams to apologize immediately who then made the bowler apologize as well

So as per you someone from a village cannot express himself in English? He cannot show attitude because he is not Australian or English?

NhA Watson deserved that. He sledged Dhawan a lot. Dhawan just ended it.

Watson had mocked Dhawan consistently during that series for his moustache twirling and star man century celebrations. Dhawan the jatt was having none of it. This is new India they don’t needle you but if you needle them then you will get it back with full force. Days of Dravid and Sachin are gone. These are mean boys if you don’t behave well.

That's it. They don't start it but damn sure the boys know how to end it.

Guys I don’t think it’s fake attitude.

I guess some of these Indians are just socially awkward they don’t know how to behave.

Well done.
No problems there, he didn't bowl the beamer intentionally.
As for the spanking, who doesn't get spanked in ipl.

I would say poor training from their parents.
Yeah poor training.
The well trained ones beat up fellow players in dressing room with a bat.

Mean boys? Stoinis represents the new Australia. They are a bunch of beach boys who would rather dance and be active on social media instead of engaging in a full on war on the field of cricket. Not sure what Stoinis did to Saini besides taking him to the cleaners with the bat? Stoinis and Zampa are soft Aussies, they don’t sledge or dont mind getting sledged either.

Attitude becomes swagger when you can back it up.

When you can't - you end up looking like a fool. Like Saini in this instance

Dramabaazi

New India will only last as long as Kohli is around, without him everyone else will return to their legendary kitten ways and those with the fake aggression will be exposed in 5 minutes as they won't have the ability to back it up

What a pathetic display. This guy should be fined or something.

As commentator was saying, seemed pretty deliberate.

I am confused the reaction of Pakistani posters. I thought they loved their fast bowlers with attitude.Saini actually did apologized after some time. He may not be express as per Pakistani standards but is a genuine quick.
This is the style of play loved by them from the team of 90's... fire, attitude and aggression.
But they are having a go at Saini for using english words to motivate him to accusing his family of parenting skills and what not.
As Shoaib Akthar says, Virat and his team learnt the aggressive attitude from Pakistanis of 90s.
Then why the hate ?

So praying for the downfall of Indian cricket to good ol days of 90s when they were whipping boys.

Don't think Watson sledged and mocked a players injury

That’s what some posters here seem to be missing. Sledging is fine but mocking an injury is quite low. There is a difference between aggressive and uncouth.

He should have apologized. Chahal further made a joke of this by dropping Stoinis catch of Saini.

don't sledge then? Simple. Just shut up and play. Let your performance do the talking otherwise be prepared to face the consequences.

Mocking Dhawan's mum is ok because he just verbally insulted him but omg nooo Dhawan can't say anything about watsons little injury ROFL.

That's really low from Watson

like two football fields deep low

not really. There will be others coming through with the same attitude. India will keep producing better athletes and they will carry the tradition post Kohli

Aggressive for life. Besides IPL contracts say otherwise. Aussies can sledge all they want but don't expect IPl contracts then lol. Go grovel up to Big bash or other third rate IPl franchises for more mullah.

Lol at Pakistanis thinking India will stop being aggressive post Kohli. anyway being aggressive is not the only way to win. Look at Morgan and Kane.

India will remain a top team as long as the economy is stable. aggressive or not wouldn't make an iota of difference

India will keep producing better athletes.

I didn’t know about the mum thing. If true then I don’t blame Dhawan.

Apologizing is a good gesture but not apologizing isn't bad either since he's not hurt.. Did Finch apologize to Ashwin for backing away too much?

Gavaskar was implying that he bowled that beamer deliberately. This is rare but the way fast bowlers are being treated nowadays (specially in T20s), this may happen more.

Becharay,,always looking for the "new India"..want to puff their chests and put their boots on others necks be it in cricket or real life. But "har raa la zawalay"..

When aggression doesn't come naturally to you, you end up doing this sort of stuff.

Overreactions galore.

IMO such things need an immediate apology. So I disagree with posters who think it wasn't a big deal. You can kill a guy this way. And it's one of the strongest taboos in cricket.

On the other hand posters who think this is a symbol of Indian aggression are letting their own biases define their exaggerated judgment. Saini just grabs his head and walks away- which is a poor choice to make but hardly aggression.

It's unacceptable in Indian cricket and most fans are unhappy with what Saini did today. Gavaskar criticized Saini right in the commentary box because we don't rate bowlers who disrespect this gentleman game of cricket. He should have apologized, bowling beamer and showing arrogance is unacceptable.

This is exactly the reason why we don't rate a bowler like Michael Holding who after struggling to dislodge batsmen like Gavaskar and Vishwanath started bowling beamers to retire hurt our lower order batsmen who were playing the game without helmets. Absolutely farcical stuff.

Saini must come forward and share an apologization message through a video to the batsmen.

PPers are phd holders identifying real aggression and fake aggression.

Real attitude and fake attitude.

:)))

Who defines whats real and what's fake. Just cos you don't like it makes it fake?

There's aggression.

There's attitude.

There's being a wannabe.

-----

With that being said, it was absolutely pathetic by Saini.

I watched the match live and you could see Stoinus being so angry. Was rooting for him to smash saini into oblivion.

If you bowl a beamer and don't apologise, you are a ****.

Plain and simple.

Maybe in the heat of moment, Saini wasn't thinking clearly but I hope he learnt his lesson.

I think most people (me including) are posting after seeing the video.

It was definitely a heat of moment kind of situation but throwing a beamer that high can cause a permanent injury or God forbid lethal.

Indeed.

Pretty low of Saini.

I was shocked at the lack of concern.

Maybe he didn't care.

Or maybe he was just embarrassed and walked off.

Which Indian bowler in his right mind would apologize to an Australian batsman after watching the following video? Saini did the right thing. I haven't forgot how Ponting embarrassed Srinath. Even if it is in a tamasha league that is good stuff by Saini. :inti

If I was a bowler I wouldn't apologize unless he is unconcious. sorry people. Cricket can be a brutal sport. you can get hit unfortunately. don't want to play then go play handball or netball or something.

taking a player out of the game with a bouncer is actually not new. I agree beamer can be deadly and should be avoided but deliberate or not there is no need to apologize or even check on the player unless he is unconcious. it's part of the game.

God lol.
i would have ignored him even if he got flatlined. What an absolute loser. that's why you never apologize. Period. unless they are dead don't worry.

The only one embarrassed in that video is Ponting.

Beamer is NOT part of the game and is not a fair contest. Even the best batsmen will lose a beamer against the worst bowler as it gets lost above the eyeline

Not a big deal? he's bowling 135+ kph and bowling an illegal ball (whether intentional or not), he could've broken bones, or even killed him. All if took was a Sean Abbot bouncer to kill Phillip Hughes, and Abbot was not even an express bowler.

Lol he is bowling 145+ consistently and reaching 148 and 149 easily. So way more than 135kph

Also what people have not mentioned here is that, in the previous match he bowled a beamer at Tewatia and hit his collarbone. So it is not a one off incident but has become a pattern with him. Love this bowler but he will put his career in danger if he continues

Hence the "+". I'm not watching, but I know generally he is quick, so wanted to be on the safe side. The point was more that Sean Abbot is slower than that yet was still able to kill someone.

I know this is from a local Indian t20 tournament but hopefully he still gets fined at the least.

Its not a local Indian t20 tournament...its the highest form of league cricket where top players from all nationalities except Pakistan participates. India's local t20 tournament is Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy which takes place in mid november every year.

Also there are no protocol of fining someone for not saying sorry. Morally it may be wrong but thats about it.

Beamer from Archer... notice something different in the bowler's reaction?

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/irlipg" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

It doesn't matter who you are, who the opposition is, what the match situation is, an apology is the right thing to do in these circumstances.

But one should always remember, what goes around comes around.

LOL at Shoaib Akhtar...

Faisalabad, 2006, he DELIBERATELY bowled a beamer to Dhoni and didn't bother to apologize because Dhoni had taken him to cleaners.

Waqar Younis was on TV and clearly said that it was extremely poor of Shoaib

If you are natural that is fine but when you are trying to be someone you are not you will come off desperate.

If you are natural that is fine but when you are trying to be someone you are not you will come off desperate.

So how does someone become natural in his non native language??
How do you know what Saini is or is not ?
He just took inspiration, may be from Starc and he wants to bowl fast. What is wrong in that ?
If he had written that in Hindi instead of English, would you be questioning him still.
Language is just a medium.

Yep. Navdeep is a beast. He can do whatever the hell he wants. When you have pace it's normal to be aggressive.

He should have apologized.
But Saini is not bad boy as some posters trying to portray.
Normally he is very discipline guy
