Not a great first day for the umpires, Aleem Dar in particular. Imagine if there was no DRS...

Aleem Dar not having a good match so far

Warner could've reviewed it though. Umpires can make mistakes. Aleem is not the worst.

Just saw a 5 minute highlights of the first day's play, Aleem Dar had like 4 or 5 howlers. What an embarrassment.

Bachi kuchi qasar dosray umpire sahab ne poori kardi.

What garbage umpiring man.

How Aleem Dar is still Umpiring is beyond me. Soo many wrong decisions in the last 2-3 years.

Another blunder today. Burns was out but not given and Australia didn't review. Umpiring has been poor but players also need to be better with the reviews.

And Root given out caught behind when he wasn't. Believe we're up to 9 mistakes now.

Umpires, just likes players, eventually decline with age too. Whether it’s their eyesight, their ability to hold their concentration for hours on end, their ability to think quickly etc. Even if these things decline very marginally it can make a big difference.

Root saved by DRS, umpires continue to have a nightmare

Damn this Joel guy is such a horrible umpire seen him make so many garbage decisions over the past 5 days.

Lmao Aleem Dar with another horrible call. Saying Root was hitting that :)) even commies making fun of him.

What’s wrong with these guys. They need to be fired after this match, bring in new umpires.

This is painful and embarrassing to watch.

Yet another Joel Wilson decision overturned, again an LBW decision concerning Joe Root, this time a big inside edge saving the batsman.

Travis Head adjudged not out then decision overturned

Perhaps the umpires should have gone to Specsavers. They are the sponsors after all..

Aleem Dar has been good this match but that decision to give Head not out was a shocker. Was stone dead plumb

Labuschagne then reached a half-century as memorable as it was historic, but departed in suitably sensational circumstances when the sweep shot he struck flew from the fielder at short leg to square leg where Joe Root claimed a diving catch low to the turf.

Television replays suggested it might have bounced as the England captain wrapped his fingers around it, but with umpire Aleem Dar's 'soft' on-field decision being out the review process upheld that verdict.

Denly given LBW in 3rd Test first innings, but the England no. 4 successfully reviews umpire Wilson's decision. It's going well over.

And another bad one - Labuschagne as he reviews umpire Gaffaney caught behind decision

Interesting dismissal for Paine, given out LBW, reviewed and given out caught instead. Spike on ultra-edge as ball passed the bat, though it didn't look like he hit it. Replays showed the ball missing the stumps.

One really has to question why wilson is still umpiring in this series?

Australia have a new public enemy number one! Mr. Wilson

Joe Wilson is a very poor umpire. There are not enough good neutral umpires around so in Ashes series the best umpires from England and Australia (one from each country) should be used.Stokes was out but Joe Wilson made sure England won this test.

1. The ball looked it would miss leg stump as thr angle was such plus it made contact with the pad quite near.

2. You dont waste your review how such ridiculous decisions like in the over before

I think the neutral umpires in cricket are the best thing to happen to cricket in the last 30 years.
Maybe the Third umpire should be used more to make a decision in every match.
Wilson is easily the worst umpire on the list of international umpires. I feel a league table of international umpires with relegation and promotion being used.

The introduction of technology has levelled the playing field for all. I feel it should be relied on more with every decision being reviewed by the third umpire. Umpires should be rotated on field to give them rest.

In the world cup the overthrow could have easily been checked to get the right decision.
Today Aussies wasted a review.... I feel a third umpire would have made the right decisions. Saying that if Wilson was the TV umpire he would still get it wrong. :)

R. Illingworth is the best umpire in the world I believe and Aleem Dar gets unfair criticism he gets it right most of the time. P. Reffiel is poor umpire too.

Elite Umpires with my rating
Aleem Dar - Pakistan - Good
Bruce Oxenford - Australia - ok
Christopher Gaffaney New Zealand - Struggling
Joel Wilson West Indies - Worst on list
Kumar Dharmasena Sri Lanka - ok
Marais Erasmus South Africa - Better than ok
Michael Gough England - Ok to Good
Nigel Llong England - Bordering on being ok
Paul Reiffel - Australia - Second worst on list
Richard Illingworth England - Best on list
Richard Kettleborough England - Good
Rodney Tucker Australia - Not sure ok to good

I feel on the list Dar, Illingworth and Kettleborough are the best on the list.

The Aussie umpire seem very over rated now I have seen the list.

Some people claiming that Hawkeye was displaying the incorrect trajectory for the Stokes LBW appeal and it wouldn't have hit the stumps. Doesn't seem to be the case. Wilson did get it wrong imo.

Third image down shows it was not out.....

I am slightly confused with catches though...
If someone jumps catches the ball then lands on the floor with the ball touching the ground but ball is in his hand is that out? I have seen them given....

What if a blade of grass touches the ball through fingers but the ball lands on your fingertips and you catch it, is that out?

What a dumb umpire.

The umpires gave England the world cup and now they have given the Ashes.

T20 World will complete the set.... Stokes to do it again?! Seriously Ashes result was a fluke...it won't happen again, Aussies have two Smiths in the lineup now..if Starc plays they may be playing their best team.....

Poor decision in my opinion.
Left armer from round the wicket as well as height.

Surely any decent umpire would have given the benefit of the doubt to the batsman there..

Rory Burns dismissal overturned in 5th Test
