Pakistan captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan were in attendance at the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi, as the country observes Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan (Martyrs Reverence Day) today (Thursday).

The country is observing Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan to remember and pay rich tribute to the martyrs who laid their lives while defending the motherland and its people.

Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir was the chief guest in the event.

During the ceremony, rich tribute was paid to the martyrs and prominent personalities laid floral wreaths at the martyrs' monument.

Some of the prominent people that attended the ceremony and laid floral wreath included former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, former chairman joint chiefs of staff committee Gen (retd) Nadeem Raza, Babar Azam, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman, law enforcement personnel, students, teachers and other members of the society.

Apart from this, numerous events featuring Quran recitation and prayers have been organised across the country. Moreover, several commemorative ceremonies will be held at the martyrs' memorials as well.

The gatherings are aimed at serving as a platform for the nation to honour the courageous heroes and their indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication. Martyrs of Pakistan Army, Rangers, Frontier Corps, Frontier Constabulary and other law enforcement agencies will be remembered.

In his message, President Arif Alvi said that the entire nation was proud of its valiant martyrs who displayed the spirit of patriotism and fearlessness in testing times throughout history.

“The nation owes to the heroism and sacrifices offered by the jawans (soldiers) and officers of our Armed Forces, including Pakistan Army, Rangers, Air Force, Navy, Police, and other security institutions that made Pakistan’s defence impregnable,” a press release issued by President Secretariat Press Wing stated.

The president acknowledged the armed forces' services for crushing the menace of terrorism and assisting the fellow countrymen during natural calamities and pandemic.

“Let us pledge on this day that we will never forget our valiant martyrs and reiterate our commitment to always honour them and express our undying love for these brave sons and daughters of the nation,” the statement added.

Why is the PCB being dragged in this propoganda?

Babar ok

But what business does Rizwan have there?

He was dropped from the Test side. He is a mediocre ODI player

He hasn’t achieved anything for Pakistan in T20 either.

Who’s parchi is he??

Lol, was there a minimum performance requirement to attend the ceremony?

This is really shameful from PCB and najam sethi to involve babar azam and rizwan in this entire cricus, they're obviously sane enough to never involve in politics, but this is just your boss making you attend a conference, stop ridiculing him he represents you in the world.

I want the establishment to send a show cause notice to PRizwan

Enough of this guy being shoved down our throats as some second coming of Qaid-E-Azam!

In my many years of existence and knowing many of the Shaheeds as family friends, I have never seen such a day commemorated. Why was that? Why now?

Because on 9th of May, they were dishonoured by Khan supporters who forgot their services

All of this is politically motivated. I have no doubts that PDM asked Sethi to get Babar and Rizwan involved in all of this.

Disgraceful.

no they were not. They were dishonored by the very army itself.

PTI can be blamed for many crimes, but standing up to the millitary was the right thing they did. Besides there were millitary's own people that were also part of the protest

What a dumb post. How did the Army dishonour it’s martyrs on the 9th of May?

How about a day for the people who were martyred by the security forces?

No Pakistan Army personnel were martyred on that day.

This is a political thing being done on behest of the PDM thuggery brigade. The martyrs of this country have never been dishonored.

People like BA etc are being pulled in because they are too scared to say no.

Ironic you consider other peoples post dumb...........

Army indulged in politics, it guided protestors to burn buildings and self insult. When army gets invovled in such things people will offcourse not respect the army, dead or alive

lol, PDM has nothing to do with this.

Asim Munir is not someone that does things listening to politicians.

MashaAllah

Yes let’s desecrate the memory of our Shuhada because the Army arrested Imran Khan

Absolute nonsense!

I think you are posting absolue nonsense.

If you want to take part in discussion on politics, its better to read the history of Pakistan ATLEAST.

I can jump in on whatever chapter I like!

Wrongs of the past do not justify wrongs of the present.

I may be posting nonsense to you but your Army won’t see it that way, it’s you who needs to be careful

umm you will only make yourself look like a fool without knowing the history just like how you are posting.

Army doesnt go around arrest people for not praising them.

Like i said read about the history before commenting on it

Tell that to the army when they storm into your house and arrest you for pathetic views about 9th May. Then we will see who is made to look like a fool RIGHT AT THIS VERY MOMENT

The only well is the one you are in and won’t be able to dig yourself out if you are made to be held accountable for your nonesense views about what was right and wrong on the 9th of May

An Army squadron isn’t going to listen to your reasoning about ‘knowing the history of Pakistan’ when they will throw you into one of their cells.

It’s up to you. Be careful about what you post. Your IP address won’t be hard to track in Pakistan

Proud patriot Riswan and more importantly, a great human being, a living legend and a proper proper REAL sunni muslim.

What’s the issue with paying respect, not some bum of the street like most common folk

I agree, Umar should be sitting in his place.

Riswan is yet to hit one Chukka in Australia, that’s Umar’s esteemed accomplishment

You do realize this is plain fascism, right? If you think this is the way to run a nation then you will enjoy living in North Korea.

It's funny how people living in free countries like England want others to be subject to state violence.

People are rightfully questioning the military and they will continue to do so as long as IK doesn't back down from his civilian supremacy narrative.

like i have respectively said, its better to learn the history before talking.

Pak army doesnt go around forums or facebook and arrest people for talking agianst them. They do so when a campaign is ran by a person who has major influence (number of followers)

Had you been well verse with our history you would had known this

Marzi hai bro

It’s your tashreef that’s on the line. Not mines

With such events, Army is trying to deliver a message that its ruling Pakistan without any shadow of doubt. Also getting people to attend from cricket, showbiz and other sectors will not help bridge the gap that is currently between normal public and army.

For Army to make amends towards their image they need to reach out to public and understand where the real issue lies. The normal public is getting poorer with every passing day, inflation is making survival difficult of large families, unemployment, hunger, load shedding, security, police brutality, etc these are issues plaguing the normal public at the moment so how about we first try resolving these concerns.

Nation will never forgive those involved in desecrating martyrs’ memorials, harming their dignity: COAS

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has said that the nation will “neither forgive nor forget” those involved in desecrating memorials of martyrs and harming their dignity.

Addressing police officers and the families of martyrs at the Islamabad Police Lines, he said the events of May 9 were “extremely regrettable and condemnable”.

“The Pakistan Army, police, and law enforcement agencies are symbols of the state and a defense line that do not hesitate in rendering any sacrifice for the dignity of the country and nation,” a statement issued by the military’s media wing quoted him as saying.

When I pointed out the non peaceful nature of PTI supporters in a thread, I was hounded and questioned for my political beliefs. Today, the Army has made sure 9th of May will always be remembered in the annals of history to be a day where PTI supporters and their violent way of voicing themselves will be remembered for all the wrong reasons

The 9/11 of Pakistan lmao. The US annahilated countries that were even remotely associated with the perpetrators of 911 (even though it was criminal war) here we have the army terrorizing its own people harrassing them and reaching new heights of oppression.

Are they trying to give IK some message, Babar to IK is what Luis Ronaldo is to Pele

They know which direction the wind is blowing. May be Babar was pro IK. The establishment has probably asked them to make it clear where they stand. Good for them. most people in their shoes will do the same. Good for them.

Imran is becoming senile by ultimately suggesting Bangladeshi separatists of a union forced on them by Indian apartheid and then subsequently an Indian proxy war and the collateral unsubstantiated lies should make Pakistan apologise.

Did Indian army pull the pants of Pakistani soldiers upon victory or not?.

Did Muslims kill the sikh warrior race upon partition and did the migrating sikhs not wreak carnage?.

And where are the generally pacifist Hindus in all this?.
