Excellent bowler, was picked for 3 crores in the IPL auction by Sunrisers Hyderabad. I will say this is a value for money deal for the franchise, can keep him for three years as he gets better and better.

This guy is highly disciplined, patient and focussed. Played a big part U19 WC-2012. Being a left armer, he is going to play an important part for Indian cricket.

He looks real deal to india's search for a left arm pacer.
There are other good options too like sangwan sran khejroliya etc but khaleel can develop into something special.

Don't forget aniket chaudhary, tall guy bowls at good pace swings it both ways.

He's a very good prospect, hopefully SRH club will nurture him for at least3 seasons before we can fast track to national side.

Don't think he needs that much time. Needs to tour with upcoming A teams. He was bowling aag in domestic t20 on some slow and flat wickets.

Hope he is not like that Hyderabadi lad Mohammed Siraj. What a let down he was. A 130k cannon fodder.

Wasn't he in DD under Zak's guidance? Hoping he learnt a few tricks,we badly need a left arm.

Quite a few emerging fast bowlers from Rajasthan these days. Aniket Choudhary , Nathu Singh , Khaleel Ahmed , Kamlesh Singh Nagarkoti , Dipak Chahar , Khejroliya.
The future looks bright.

India are churning out a lot of prototype bowlers these days

However still in search of a Steyn or Waqar or McGrath who makes a good pace attack into a great one

True still in search of a bowler with that x factor

Need to move to Delhi or Rajasthan. All won't get opportunity playing for Rajasthan

Would be quite difficult to get in Delhi side considering the competition.
I would say Haryana or MP would be better choices.

They can move to any of our 3 Maharashtrian teams. Not many express bowlers here. Though Vidarbha does have some good swing bowlers.

Very good signs for India, but the fans need to stay humble, this a new thing for them so stay away from showing arrogance.

Vidarbha has Umesh Yadav and Lalit Yadav who also bowls 140 plus. And then new kid Gurbani who bowled like a dream in the recent Ranji finals and semi-finals.So tough to break into their roster.
Mumbai has Royston Dias who I heard bowls pretty quick but have not seen in action yet.

Do you think we will? :ashwin .Man, we are finally getting folks in good numbers who can bowl quick and terrorize batsmen and you can't expect fans to not go berserk.

Seen it all before... the next Akram Tendulkar Ponting, the closest to these greats is Kohli the rest “stars” cant even hold a place in the xi. Ie Rahane Baba Azam

Hyderabad have handed debut to him for this all important qualifier match.

Looked great in SMAT, hope he isn't thrashed

As the selectors named India’s 16-member squad for the Asia Cup 2018 starting September 15 in the UAE, the biggest takeaway was the absence of Virat Kohli, who has been rested, and whose duties will be taken over by Rohit Sharma. However, another highlight of the squad was the addition of the lesser-known Khaleel Ahmed, a 20-year-old left-arm pacer who has earned praise from the likes of Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid.

For those not aware, Khaleel is an out and out fast bowler. Not medium pace, fast. He recently played in the Quadrangular trophy for India A where he picked up seven wickets in four matches, including 3/45 against South Africa A in Bengaluru in a losing case. Prior to that, Ahmed played five List-A matches for India A in England and impressed with eight wickets.

Ahmed, son of a compounder, hails from the small town of Tonk in Rajasthan. His ability to bowl fast goes back to his days of playing tennis ball cricket when he would play on cement pitches and bend his back. During the last edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January, Khaleel took 17 wickets and generated some serious pace, clocking 148 in one of the games. During his close association with mentor Zaheer while playing for the Delhi Daredevils, the former India fast bowler rated Khaleel a very bright prospect.

With 12 wickets in three innings, including 3/29 against Sri Lanka in the final of the Tri-Nation Under-19s tournament in Colombo, Khaleel broke into India’s Under-19 World Cup squad in 2016. In the much-awaited tie against Pakistan, Khaleel picked up 5/30, winning the match for India.

It was the same year where he was picked up by the Daredevils. That is where his association began with the then coach of the franchise Rahul Dravid. In two years, Khaleel’s development has impressed Dravid to an extent that he feels the left-arm pacer can be part of India’s bench-strength and a potential candidate for the World Cup in England next year.

“He taught us a lot about life off the field and discipline.” Khaleel said about Dravid, his Under-19 World Cup coach. “The difference (between junior cricket and the next grade) is big but I am keen to learn and adapt.”

He moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad this year during the IPL but played just one match and went wicketless.

According to BCCI’s chief selector MSK Prasad, Khaleel’s inclusion stems from the fact that India continue to be on the lookout for more fast bowling options for the World Cup starting in nine months’ time. “There are two, three slots we are yet to see before we fix the final team for the World Cup and one of the slots is a seamer slot which is available. We are looking at a left-hander option in Khaleel Ahmed,” he said.

Hope Khaleel ends the torture of Shardul Thakur.

We desperately need a left arm quick. From what I have seen, he looks very slender. Need to put on a little bit more muscle.

As I said he is ready now. Most of the domestic bats dont like facing him.

Zaheer Khan has moulded him from a 130 kmph bowler to a 140+ kmph one. Looking forward to see him bowl. Is still relatively raw and inexperienced. So keeping the expectations low.

Good debut for the young man. Still long way to go. Hope he can maintain his fitness.

Struggled a little bit today vs Afghanistan, especially early on after Shahzad took the attack to him.

Speed was down too.

Early days yet though.

It was still pretty good, speed was upto 144-145, also he may be rusty as he didnt play a lot of matches but still he was economical and showed great control and variations.

Most of his deliveries were 135-ish I think- will be interested to see his average speed.

He struggled against Shahzad and didn't adjust, but bowled okay to the other batsmen.

He will strengthen as he will play, working with nca has helped him use to bowl 135-138 now up-to 146 ,also since he is in radar of the team the strengthening and diet all that stuff will insure that he will become strong and sustain his pace and perhaps be a bit more quicker as he is still young.

Sure, I was simply saying he seemed a little off-colour today.

The other thing he will need to work on is his bowling intelligence- that should come with experience though.

He was mixing a lot of deliveries, bowling a lot in 140's mixing them with slower balls, one can clearly see he was a bit rusty yet he did exceedingly well in controlling the Afghans in death overs also he is 22 ,he will get quicker have seen him bowl up-to 147-148 in domestics ,the hit is sapping, it exhausts you, but kudos to him, I won't be too harsh on him, as he was the pick of fast bowlers.

Mak Bhai this hit will exhaust a lot of guys, it will be unfair to expect a newbie to go full tilt here, he will improve the signs are deffo positive, it's the other two that should be thrown out especially with siraj saini avesh are in the waiting with mavi avesh behind them nagarkoti has to wait for couple of years.

We are agreeing, he has potential.

(There's a reason I am commenting on his thread and not the other trash that was bowling today).

definitely not 145kph plus as op says but he was the best of the three playing today. Will improve with time and experience.Expecting him to do well.

Hit top speed of 144 Imphal, but mostly bowled 137-138 kmph. Plenty of 140kmph+ deliveries. Needs to play more and he will keep getting better

Needs to add 5kph or there is nothing to distinguish him from other average pacers.

146 is a good pace it's not that he is trundling and have seen him bowl 148, he is 22 and has just started potential is definitely there, he will deffo get quicker certainly has the tool to succeed, he comes across as a thinking cricketer.

This sounds just like Wahab fans calling him a 150+ bowler because he used to do it once or twice a match. Most of Khaleel deliveries are 135-138kph range and that is not good enough for the skill set I have seen so far.

Needs to add 5kph or there is nothing to distinguish him from other average pacers.

Only thing that he needs is to get the ball dip into right handlers which is not consistent at right now. Rest everything is good, will only keep better.

Him being a left armed alone makes him distinct from other trundles like Kaul, Chahal, Thakur. That he is a yard quicker only adds to his positives.

First of all, he was bowling lots of deliveries in 140's, secondly in these hot conditions and dead pitches you need to mix ur pace and length. And he is doing that.

Its his first international outing. How many fast bowlers go flat out/ start bowling their fastest in the first series they play? Will take a few years before he starts bowling genuine pace all the time.

First T20I wicket for Khaleel vs West Indies.

Pandya and Khalil have intentionally reduced their speed in LOI Cricket realizing how overrated and useless it is. It's like having good looks but not being able to make ends meet for the family. At the end of the day wickets count and change of pace, slow bouncers, putting it in the right areas is mostly the way to do it in modern day cricket.

Khalil Ahmed gave away 42 runs in his four overs today! Diabolical stats

He's the definition of a useless trundler. He needs to go work in domestics or play 2-3 seasons of county cricket to improve. Currently he's as rubbish as most of our fast bowlers of past.

Seems to get smashed every game.

India should move on from having a left arm pacer for the sake of it

NEW DELHI: Since Zaheer Khan left the scene in 2015, India's search for a left-arm pacer has faced a long wait; and former India skipper Kris Srikkanth suggests it may extend with incumbent Khaleel Ahmed failing to produce the goods consistently.

"Frankly Khaleel Ahmed looks a misfit at this level. There is always scope for improvement but he has to learn fast," Srikkanth wrote in his column for The Times of India on Sunday.

The Rajasthan pacer cut a sorry figure in the ongoing T20I series against Bangladesh. In the two matches played so far, Khaleel's spells read 1/37 and 1/44.

His career economy rate in 13 T20Is stands at an expensive 9.00, while it's 5.81 in 11 ODIs.

Srikkanth felt India's bowling department in T20 cricket warrants some "tweaking" when the senior bowlers are rested.

"Barring the solitary change at the top, the T20 batting department looks fairly set for Virat Kohli. The bowling resources, however, need some tweaking, especially when the team management feels it’s important to rest the senior bowlers from this format," the former India opener wrote.

"Deepak Chahar looks a different bowler when there is atmospheric help, but in countries like Australia and South Africa, he might find it tough, as the ball does not dart around too much. If he can add a couple of more variations, he could well be the front-runner to fill that one slot," he added.

The T20 World Cup will be played in Australia next year.

"The big prize is, of course, the (T20) World Cup and I’m sure the plan is to work towards that. In my opinion, wrist spinners are going to play a pivotal role and it is high time Kuldeep Yadav is back in the mix.

"The bigger boundaries and bounce in the wicket in Australia should make (Yuzvendra) Chahal and Kuldeep a deadly combination. The case of Kuldeep is curious, a matter of regaining confidence than anything else. And this series would have been ideal to give him some game time. At the same time, Rahul Chahar will also not be a bad choice but Kuldeep’s slightly better experience should weigh in his favour," Srikkanth analysed.

Looking ahead to India's squad that may travel for the T20 World Cup Down Under, Srikkanth reiterated the fact that the team still needs a dependable support pacer.

"With Hardik Pandya the first choice all-rounder and three spinners slotted, it's time to move focus to the new ball and seam department. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (when fit) should take their rightful places. The area of concern is that of the support bowler."

'I'd be missing most of the matches. It's hard...': India cricketer's emotional note from hospital bed

The pacer shared a picture from a hospital bed on Monday and tweeted an emotional note, giving fans a major update on his participation in the Ranji Trophy.

India pacer Khaleel Ahmed shared a message for fans, where he revealed that he will be missing a good number of Ranji Trophy matches in the season, which started from Tuesday. Khaleel informed that he has been sidelined due to a medical condition and will get back to action after he is deemed fit.

The pacer shared a picture from a hospital bed on Monday and tweeted: “Dear all, it’s very hard to stay away from cricket, It's unfortunate, but due to my medical condition, I would be missing most of the matches of the upcoming Ranji season. I am on the road to recovery and will be back in the side once deemed fit. I am grateful for all the wishes.”

Khaleel represents Rajasthan in the domestic circuit and was part of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He made his last appearance in the T20 action against Mumbai, where he conceded 47 runs in his four-over quota and scalped one wicket. He picked a total of four wickets in three matches during the 2022-23 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Former India speedsters Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel and Delhi Capitals, the Indian Premier League franchise he represents, wished the bowler a speedy recovery.

Khaleel had a decent outing in the previous edition of the lucrative T20 tournament, where he claimed a total of 16 wickets from 10 matches. He averaged 19.69 in the season, but the pacer missed a number of matches due to a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan are clubbed in Group C in the premier red-ball domestic tournament, and they open their season against Goa. As per an update on Cricbuzz, Rajasthan have won the toss and opted to bowl first.
