Mohammad Hasnain - should he be allowed to play in this?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged three cricketers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their role in match-fixing during India-based controversial T10 League.

The skipper of the UAE cricket team, Mohammad Naveed is also among the players who have been charged with 13 counts of breaching the ICC’s anti-corruption code during the disputed league based on 90-balls format. The other two players include Shaiman Anwar and Qadeer Khan, both from the UAE.

Three of them played for Kerala Kings in the T10 league. Naveed was to captain the UAE side in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers, scheduled from October 18 to November 2 in the UAE, but he has been sacked from captaincy now after ICC’s action against match-fixing scandal.

It must be noted here that the co-owner of Kerala Kings, Ashfaq Thara, got arrested in India last month due to his involvement in match-fixing during the same league.

This is not the first time T10 league got trapped in fixing scandals as earlier in its first edition in 2017, Sri Lankan players including Dilhara Lokuhettige and Nuwan Zoysa found guilty of doing match-fixing. They were charged for breaching the anti-corruption code by the world’s cricket governing body.

In July 14 this year, Lord's witnessed history. For the first time ever, a World Cup final was tied after 100 overs being bowled followed by a tie in the deciding Super Over.

England lifted the 2019 World Cup on boundary count, leading to contrasting images -- jubilation for the host and pure agony for New Zealand.

The world hailed Ben Stokes. England celebrated. There was gratitude, there was discipline and most importantly there was mutual respect.

This was only possible because of a 56-year-old coach who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. He was approached after England's devastating 2015 World Cup campaign.

Trevor Bayliss stitched the wounds of a disappointing campaign and in a span of four years turned around the fortunes of English cricket and guided them to a maiden World title.

"Its history, isn't it," said Bayliss, who was here to attend the Abu Dhabi T10 players' draft.

Bayliss was appointed as coach of Team Abu Dhabi for the upcoming third edition of the T10 league. Despite his accomplishments, the Australian feels he is yet to get acclimatised with the new format.

"Well from my point of view, to be honest, it's very new. Having only coached T20 in the past, I will be also new to this (T10) as well. There are some very good players in the draft and I am sure the eight teams will be very good," Bayliss said.

England had scored 24 boundaries in its innings, compared to New Zealand's 16, which eventually proved vital.

Commenting on the new change of rules, Bayliss said: "That's fair enough. Whatever rules the governing body has for any competition, rules to be played to. In the World Cup, everyone knew what the rules were and it's not that we made up the rules in the last moment. We were just lucky enough to end on the winning side."

Bayliss is a man who boasts of an incredible track record. He took Sri Lanka to a World Cup final and then a World T20 victory. His acumen of picking players was clearly visible when he insisted in having star all-rounder Moeen Ali as the icon player.

He then beefed up the team by snapping Pakistan left-arm pacer, Mohammad Amir.

Although the head coach didn't reveal the strategy completely behind the pickings, he dropped a hint that T10 won't be a batsman's game.

"If you have got five very good bowlers you might have to score just 50 runs to win. Teams might pick a team full of bowlers, five very good bowlers you might to score as many runs," Bayliss reasoned.

Teams have benefitted from Bayliss' expertise in the shortest formats of the game. It was under Bayliss' watch when Kolkata Knight Riders won two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.

He was instrumental in helping Sydney Sixers lift the Big Bash League trophy and in the same year it went on to win the now-defunct Champions League T20.

When asked if there is a difference in approach, he said: "No I haven't studied it. Probably take out the middle 10 overs of the T20 match! (laughs) It's only 10 overs and we have seen batters go pretty hard straight up.

"Batters have been on the top in the last couple of seasons and bowlers play catch-up and they get even better and they work out how to get back in the game and we will get to see that in T10 cricket."

IPL Challenge

Along with the T10 league, Bayliss is also gearing up for the IPL as he replaces fellow Australian Tom Moody as coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Under Moody, Sunrisers won IPL in 2016, ended runners-up in 2018 and made the play-offs in 2019.

"I am always excited to come to India. I was there with KKR for four years and then I am looking forward with Sunrisers Hyderabad," Bayliss said.

He doesn't believe in schooling players. And Ben Stokes is the latest product from the Bayliss school of coaching.

"From the coaches point of view, it's all about helping the players realise their dream of playing cricket. Playing the game and enjoying," Bayliss signed off.

What a stupid league. Also Muhammad Hasnain should stop joining these leagues (just joined for CPL few months ago).

What a stupid league. Also Muhammad Hasnain should stop joining these leagues (just joined for CPL few months ago).

Sure he will stop once PCB can pay him money that these leagues give him too.

We have been told by the PCB that NOCs have not been granted yet for T10 so lets see what happens.

Lahore, 23 October 2019:

The Pakistan Cricket Board has issued the following statement on the T10 League, which will be played in the UAE from 15-24 November:

“To manage the players’ workload, continued work on their fitness levels as well as to ensure primacy and participation of its players in its premier Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the PCB has revoked conditional NOCs of its players to feature in the T10 tournament.

“The fitness and medical assessment camp will be held at the National Cricket Academy from 13-25 November, while the seventh and 10th round matches of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will be played between 11 November and 5 December with the five-day final scheduled in Karachi from 9-13 December.

“The decision has been made in the best interest of the players as well as to continue to enhance the credibility and reputation of the new domestic structure, which has been widely covered and reported across all media outlets.”

Much needed decision especially for the young players like Mohammad Hasnain who should be playing QAE. If PCB can afford then they should think about compensating players a certain %age they would have gotten from the league. Otherwise players would start to look upto the career path of Amir and Wahab who dont have to play in the QAE trophy and they can play leagues and earn better sum.

The PCB should not be issuing Nocs for these stupid low quality T10 leagues in the first place. But now that they did, it is extremely unprofessional for them to revoke it at the last minute and make a last minute uturn. Things like this destroy the reputation of the PCB and the Pakistani players and make franchises hesitant to pick Pakistani players again.

Good Decision.
These leagues are a trap for match fixers. Look at what is happening with UAE players.

So last year:

The organisers gave a flat fee of US$ 600,000 to the PCB for the NOCs

This year PCB not sending anyone there!

Difference between administrations?

Lol, maybe nothing was offered to the PCB this time

Why aren't Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik allowed? If the PCB sees no future in them then they should be allowed a NOC.

Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been confirmed as the Maratha Arabians’ Indian icon player at the T10 League in Abu Dhabi that will be played between November 15 and 24.

Yuvraj retired from international cricket earlier this year and is not bound by the BCCI’s rules about active players not being able to play in leagues outside the country.

Yuvraj will join familiar faces in Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga and West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the side that will be coached by the former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower.

In the latest edition of the IPL earlier this year Yuvraj turned out for the Mumbai Indians but did not have the best season and finished with just 98 runs from four games.

After announcing his retirement Yuvraj also played in the Global T20 Canada League where he turned out for the Toronto Nationals. In his six outings, the southpaw scored 153 runs with a best score of 51 with a strike rate of 145.71. They finished third in the league stage of the six team tournament before losing their eliminator against the Winnipeg Hawks.

Speaking about joining Maratha Arabians squad, Yuvraj said: “It is an exciting new format to be part of. I am looking forward to joining forces with some of the world’s biggest names in this league and representing team Maratha Arabians. It is going to be a thrilling time for the game of cricket. Its heartwarming to see leagues like T10 putting in so much hard work and offering such exciting format for sports enthusiasts.”

Bravo will continue to lead the side like last year, with Australian power-hitting batsman Chris Lynn was named the icon player of the franchise.

Among the players retained by the Arabians are also the Afghanistan duo of Hazratullah Zazai and Najeebullah Zadran.

The early seasons of the T10 league had their fair share of problems with corruption. This year, the tournament has shifted from Sharjah to Abu Dhabi and the organizers claim that the ICC will be involved in dealing with anti corruption.

"We have always had a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to corruption." Shaji Ul Mulk was quoted as saying by the National.

"The whole monitoring of the tournament has been done by the ICC. We have outsourced anti-corruption and dope testing to the ICC. All key elements are outsourced to the ICC."

Right decision by PCB, but a kick in the teeth for the Qalandars.

Top Pakistan cricketers, including former captain Shoaib Malik and pacer Muhammad Aamir, stand to lose out on millions of rupees earnings after the Pakistan Cricket Board revoked all NOCs issued to players to take part in the T10 league in Abu Dhabi.

A board official made it clear that only retired players, Shahid Afridi and Imran Nazir, could take part in the tournament but all other players who were issued NOCs would not be able to take part in the T10 league under the new directives.

“NOCs of players who are centrally or domestically contracted have been revoked,” he said.

Besides Malik and Aamir, others to lose out on their earnings include Muhammad Hafeez, Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz.

The PCB said it was binding on all players who had central or domestic contracts that they can’t take part in any other league without board clearance.

“To manage the players’ workload, continued work on their fitness levels as well as to ensure primacy and participation of its players in its premier Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the PCB has revoked conditional NOCs of its players to feature in the T10 tournament,” the PCB said in its statement.

A reliable source close to the players said they didn’t expect their NOCs to be revoked so suddenly and this decision would also have financial implications for the tournament and organizers as number of Pakistani players were due to represent franchises in the T10 festival.

“The organizers are in a fix as they stand to lose a lot of money if the PCB doesn’t issue NOCs again.”

The source said top players stand to lose out individually on earnings of up to 10 million rupees.

Another source said last time the T10 league was held in UAE, the organizers had paid the PCB around USD 600,000 as fees for allowing Pakistani players to take part in the event.

“This time the fees asked was higher,” the source claimed.

Extremely unprofessional behavior by PCB

Why couldn't they do this before the draft? They did this with Hasnain as well

Bunch of jokers

My point exactly. Its like backing out of a prior commitment you made with someone at the very last minute. It reeks of unprofessionalism

Ramiz Raja recommends that the PCB starts compensating the players in exchange for forgoing T10 and T20 Leagues around the world.

Senior all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has questioned Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s decision to revoke the NOCs issued to the players to play in the T10 league in Abu Dhabi this month.

"First they issued the NOCs and now they have stopped it. I don't understand. They should have a clear policy on leagues," Hafeez said.

"I am not in the central contracts list, neither have I been selected in the Pakistan team, Nor do I have any provisional contract and I am also not playing first class domestic cricket so I do want to go and play in the league," he said.

The PCB after initially issuing NOCs to some 15 players, including Hafeez, then announced the NOCs were revoked as the players were required to play domestic cricket and attend camps.

The PCB's U-turn has already drawn a backlash from the Emirates Cricket Board who has said absence of Pakistani players will cause a serious damage to the league.

According to a leading cricket website, ECB vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni had sent a letter last week to PCB chairman Ehsan Mani to say that the decision would directly hurt the UAE government's stakes in the tournament, and urged the Pakistani board to change its mind.

Mani is believed to have told the ECB vice-chairman on the phone about the Prime Minister's role in the decision. He also advised the ECB to engage directly with Khan through a senior UAE minister to find a resolution.

The ECB is thought to be weighing its options, including raising the issue of government interference in the PCB's affairs with the ICC.

Interestingly the PCB's decision to revoke the NOCs came even after the Lahore Qalandars franchise in the Pakistan Super League entered their team "Qalandars" in the T-10 league.

Hafeez, who is in the Qalandars outfit, made it clear that if any Pakistani goes to play in the league then he will also go.

"Either they stop every Pakistani from going to play in the league or allow anyone who wants to go. I play in leagues around the world and after all I am also answerable to the organizers," he said.

"If I will not go then no one goes but if the PCB allows anyone to go then I will also go because they first issued me a NOC."

Although Hafeez doesn't have a central contract now but PCB rules say a player is bound by contractual clauses for at least six months after the contract has ended.

Pakistan's former captains, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and retired Imran Nazir are among the players picked in the T-10 drafts.

A source in the board said that a review of the whole situation was being done and it could change after the ECB protest.

Why is Imran Khan directly interfering with the board

What leads you to that conclusion?

The article in your previous post has this

Qalandars have added Laurie Evans, Samit Patel and Jordan Clark to their squad just a week ahead of the start of the T10 League.

The Pakistan Cricket Board have prohibited their players from competing in the third edition of the tournament, leading to a raft of alterations at the 11th hour.

Mohammad Hafeez, Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim were all due to line up for Qalandars before the ruling, but have each been withdrawn.

Sussex batsman Evans arrives for his second campaign in the competition, when he played for Rajputs, having spent much of the last year playing in various franchise leagues including the Bangladesh Premier League and Pakistan Super League.

Nottinghamshire allrounder Patel also represented Rajputs last season and will again be involved.

Jordan Clark, the Surrey star, has been enlisted for just his second outing in franchise cricket having been selected by Hobart Hurricanes for last year's Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy.

Coached by Aqib Javed, Qalandars already have two Englishmen in their ranks in the form of Chris Jordan and Tom Banton, both of whom are currently on tour with their country in New Zealand.

The third edition of the T10 League runs between November 15-24.

How does eion Morgan always somehow end up playing in these Mickey mouse tournaments like msaanzi super league and now this t10. He’s not some club level player he is the captain of the worlds best odi team. Is he still a kolpak player if he is it makes sense cause a board like England wouldn’t allow their most vaualable player to Be playing in leagues like these. The way malinga bowled over like 6 no balls and big no balls this tournament looks like a heaven for bookies.

There won't be any Pakistani player taking part. Pakistani players have been completely barred from T10, even the retired ones like Afridi.

Ahaha it all makes sense now of course Pakistani players won’t be allowed this league is trouble trouble

ABU DHABI: Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan feels T10 is a great format which can help in making the game of cricket a global sport.
Currently, only a handful of countries across the world play cricket at the international level. However, with the advent of T20 format, more and more nations are now participating in the competition and a huge pool of young talent is coming across.

"Every format of cricket has its own place and fan following. This is the third year of the T10 league and it's growing every year. So, this format in my understanding can work as a catalyst for the global growth of the sport," Zaheer, who plays for Delhi Bulls franchise in the Abu Dhabi T10 league, told IANS.

The Abu Dhabi T10 is a professional ten-over format cricket league launched by T10 Sports Management and licensed by the Emirates Cricket Board and approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of international cricket.

Matches have 10-over-a-side format and duration of 45 minutes a side, totalling 90 minutes of play. The tournament, approved by the ICC in August 2018, is played over ten days, with a round robin followed by semi-finals and the final.

"It's a great thing that this property of T10 is doing great and all the stakeholders associated with it are working in the right direction," Zaheer said.

"It is a global tournament and there are opportunities for all the players to take part in it. There's a process which is followed by the league committee and players registered under that. It's one of the unique leagues where there's no such restriction on the number of players from a particular country. This is a good opportunity for UAE cricket and the youngsters over here to showcase their talent," he added.

This year, no Pakistani players are featuring in the league because the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revoked the 'no objection certificate' it gave to its contracted players. Retired star Pakistani players like Shahid Afridi and Imran Nazir were expected to take part in the third installment of the league. However, their absence has somewhat disappointed the fans who turn up in large numbers to see them play.

For Delhi Bulls, Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Hasnain and Aamer Yamin are the players who are no participating this year. However, the team management is not affected by their absence and insists on having a great balance in the squad.

"I am very happy with the replacements that we have got for the Pakistani players. We have got Angelo Mathews for Shoaib Malik, Ravi Rampaul for Aamer Yamin, David Willey for Sohail Tanvir and Dushmantha Chameera for Mohammad Hasnain," team owner Anis Sajan said.

"So, I cannot complain. I have got like for like replacements."

And it surely didn't feel like Bulls missed any of the Pakistani players as Eoin Morgan led from the front to guide them to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Deccan Gladiators in their first match of the Abu Dhabi T10 Season 3 at the Zayed Cricket stadium on Friday evening.

T10 will happen inevitably. And PCB stopping Pakistani players even those that don't have to do anything with pcb is not good.

Pakistan Cricket is going down day by day.

I am at the tournament at the moment, and I can sense the bad blood against PCB.

Lol what the hell kind of name is Maratha Arabians

Wasim Khan on NOCS for T10 leagues

"For the Abu Dhabi T10, the organiser emailed us and asked for permission but we said our players won't be available. But they went through agents, through players directly so we reluctantly issued conditional NOCs, but we decided to hold camps, etc. and some of the players went to Australia so we called these guys back. With the Qatar T10, there is no domestic cricket now so the players are free to go. But we need to have clarity about the NOCs, that's something we will work on over the next couple of weeks."
