Announcement of Mohammad Hafeez as Lahore Qalandars Captain for Pakistan Super League 2019.

Lahore Qalandars, a franchise which over the years has provided a lot of entertainment on field and has always believed in giving back to the community is moving in high spirits towards the fourth season of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Though luck has not favored Lahore Qalandars in the previous editions of PSL, with the franchise facing major setbacks in the form of injuries to its key players, Lahore Qalandars is still adamant to give its best this season.

With the addition of some strong international and local players this season, Lahore Qalandars is hopeful for an exciting season of Pakistan Super League and is ready to give tough competition to all other franchises this season.

One particular addition to the Qalandars’ Squad this season is Mohammad Hafeez who is an exceptional player and has made Pakistan proud on so many levels with his spectacular performances. Muhammad Hafeez is the pride of Pakistan and this season he will lead the Qalandars’ Squad with his expertise and great leadership skills.

“We are extremely honored to have Hafeez on board with us. There is no doubt about the fact that he is an exceptional leader and a great player and I’m sure he’ll be able to lead the team with the best of his abilities,” said CEO LQ Atif Rana.

Head Coach LQ Aqib Javed is of the view, “Having Hafeez in the squad is amazing and I’m sure that with his skills and knowledge of the game he will be able to lead all the youngsters and they will get to learn

As expected. Would've liked to see Fakhar Zaman. But still a local captain.

Why is not possible in Pakistan cricket to give chances to the younger guys? Fakhar Zaman would have given the national team a new option.

Thanks to our cultural woes of giving the most senior the highest seat we do not have any other option than Safraz left for the national team.

I understand that Fawad Rana doesn't care about the PCB or Pak team but this would have benefited him long term as well.

Agreed, would have preferred Zaman, but as someone mentioned Qalandars probably playing it safe
Would like to see ISLU go for a younger Pakistani captain, Rumman as captain seems logical after PSL3 and they should ideally make Shadab vice-captain

Love the excuses for previous failures in the release

First they need to get rid of Aqib Javed, rubbish coach and tactics. Hafeez is ok with Fakhar as VC

Another poor choice. Why not think of Pakistan and let someone like Fakhar lead the team. What good is Hafeez as captain and how is it benefiting anyone. When will this seniority culture end in our system.

Remains sad to see how deep this senior culture is in PAK cricket. I mean whats the point in having a 40 year old as a captain for a T20 tourney?

FZ was the man to lead and its not as if he is 21. I guess FZ is 28 or so...

Kyle Mills and Kabir Khan seem okay but you don't need them both. In addition to that, they have 2 more pacers in the management in Aqib Javed and Shoaib Akhtar. Just keep one.
No need for Inzi there IMO. Aqib Javed as head coach is simply not going to work. They had a real good and proven t20 coach in Paddy Upton yet they let him go even though under Aqib they fared even worse.
Shoaib Akhtar and Aqib Javed seem to be toxic stimuli to the squad with their personalities and ego and especially Shoaib's disregard of rules or technical aspects of bowling(and I was one of his biggest fans during his playing days).

Fawad Rana needs to sit at home this time and not hop around and give stupid and annoying statements day in day out. They have made good selections this year, but I'm not quite sure if they have it in them to pick themselves up.

They are playing safe, just don't be too safe so as to restrict the guys from playing their natural game.
Hafeez is a fine tactician, but whether he will get his say among 7 or 8 ex players in the management remains the question.

Zaman would have been an excellent choice but looking at the past couple of seasons that Lahore has endured, it would have made sense to give it to Hafeez. Fawad Rana is desperate for a good season let alone the trophy.

Also why on earth is Aqib Javed still in the job. Paddy Upton would have been a better appointment and maybe should have been retained.

Safety first option.

After the turmoil of the first 3 seasons they wanted a senior Pakistani player who the players would look up to and will be able to control the dressing room and gets on with the coaching staff.

100x better chance at winning the trophy with him than McCullum.

BMac was just a disaster.

Predictable appointment. Would have liked to have seen Fakhar get the captaincy as with Sarfraz struggles he had a realistic chance of capataining Pakistan.

hafeez was failing left and right last season with the bat and barely bowls now, so lahore basically wanted a specialist captain like sarfraz lol.

I don't understand why everyone thinks that PSL franchises care or should care about "developing" talent captaincy or otherwise for the national team. They're people who have put up a lot of money. They want to make that back and more. To them their team is the end all, be all. They want to win PSL and that's it. IF it means a 40 yr old Misbah or Hafeez, more power to them and their think tanks. I have no problem with them appointing someone they think will help them win the PSL (which is the ONLY trophy that matters to a franchise owner).

IPL franchises also want to win but they still let Indian talent develop. Iyer was made captain of Delhi Daredevils when GG step down. A PSL franchise would have replaced 1 oldie with another.

Also it is important to develop youth. Hafeez performances will eventually decline if they aren't already. So which brand will want a player who is past his best at their marquee player? How will they help you win the trophy and how will that help you as a brand ?

Do whatever you want to do in your private domestic team but selector should be shameful on wasting opportunities to bring newer players and persisting with players like Hafeez , Imam and Safraz in the national team.

I expect other franchises first to make a young captain. Lahore Qalandars have ended up last every time. They aren't gonna waste another season for sake of a future Pakistani captain.

Quetta, Peshawar and Islamabad should appoint a new local captain.

Why? What's the point of appointing someone approaching the end of their career as captain?

The oldies in Pakistan cricket have seen that PSL can extend their careers. Don't see any team making a youngster the captain.
