With three days to go for the start of the two-month-long series in Australia, India opener Shikhar Dhawan gave fans a glimpse of the new jersey on Tuesday. The fans got a glimpse of the retro jersey a month after the Board of Control of Cricket in India inked a deal with MPL Sports.

The BCCI has signed a three-year contract with MPL Sports from November 2020 to December 2023. The association with the BCCI begins with this tour, which will see Virat Kohli-led team India sporting the new jerseys.

Meanwhile, once the left-handed batsman shared the picture, fans got nostalgic as they drew parallels of the current jersey to the one the national side wore in 1992.

1992 World Cup vibes.

My favorite Indian jersey was the 2009 one.

India need Nike back.

This MPL stuff doesn’t fit the profile of a top team.

Hideous jersey( hate the colour, should’ve buried this in 92 long ago, bright sky blue suits us better). Let SL use dark blue
Look at the logos :facepalm
Agree with Mamoon we need Nike back or even company like Puma. This MPL is making mockery(look at the size of their logo).

What is the 3 stars for?

2 ODI world cups and a T20 World Cup?

Oh wow. Finally, once Indian jersey colors I like!!!

I wish they could make Byju font smaller, but man this jersey is the best

Seems to me that a lot of teams have intense nostalgia for the jerseys in 1992 WC.
PAK does because of '92 WC win.
ENG jersey for the 2019 CWC was inspired by the '92 jersey and now India.

Previous jerseys and colors were much better. Why would India pay tribute to 92 WC anyway? Wasn’t particularly memorable for them

Want to see Kohli and Sharma in that sky blue jersey.
The only man that comes to my mind when i see this new jersey is Sachin Tendulkar.

So we are back to being the Petrol Pump guys once again.

Our 1992 jersey was okay, it's not even one of our best jerseys. If they wanted to bring nostalgia they could have gone with 1996 and 1999 jerseys which are more iconic.

Probably because that was the first time coloured kits were used in a world cup.

It seems BCCI wants to show everyone that "look, we still have sponsors and here are their names". Horrible kit. Reminds me of our minnow days. Hopefully we can change it to our 2003 World Cup kit one. :inti

I guess sponsors wanted a darker colour Jersey so their lolos stand out.

Colour doesn't suit us and SL has already claimed it.

I have never been a fan of the sky blue - always felt that it doesn't go with the South Asian complexion.

I like this one better!

Always felt India look good in dark/navy blue. Not a fan of the sky blue. Also I'm always intrigued as to how countries come up with national colors..like blue isn't in India's flag but all Indian teams wear it. Similarly Australia doesn't have yellow but yellow is Aus's color in all sports. Many examples like that.

We do have blue on our flag.

The font sizes are too big and the logos are too many. Esp when it’s the same company.

Talking about best indjan kits. The 2011 WC kit was solid.

India’s generally had a good set of kits and have it largely consistent. And once they pick a kit they keep it for a significant time period. Not like us where there’s literally a new kit every series

Do sponsors have that much pull?

In September 2020, it was the world's most valued edtech company with a valuation of $11.1 billion and they had gained ₹2,800 crore revenue in FY20.

Recently Byju’s acquired WhiteHat Jr, an online coding school for young kids, for $300 million (Rs2,223 crore).

WhiteHat Jr looks like a scam. :inti

Think fans make too big a deal of playing strips etc

You can show up in any colour you like but if you dont win a game, whats the use?

$140 million is what the BCCI makes off just Byju's. So they better have pull.

The new kit of course gets more $$$ for BCCI. Jersey sales I am sure were tapering off. So BCCI being proactive will get that revenue stream flowing.

its the only sports top ive kept, the pak 92 kit. the colours, the simplicity, it all worked for a unique look. i dont think any other sports kit looks similar.

that and 99, which was really good too.

In next few years they will all look like movable advertisement boards for different brands. :inti

Thats a hideous jersey...looks like an IIT-JEE advertisement.

Anyway blue is outdated. I demand Saffron color jersey from next tour :moyo:

Seems like something that the pindi boys would wear :) A bit too noisy for my liking. Too much going on there.

People need to stop making a big deal about the kit supplier. If anything, its good that BCCI has given the contract to an Indian start-up.

That said, the kit looks like a rehash of the 1992 jersey. My feeling though is that they are being nostalgic like Australia and New Zealand were when they brought back the 1999 jerseys for that one series. This kind of thing is quite common in ODI series in Australia. Last time India toured Australia brought back their 80s jersey, so maybe India are just playing along.

This is the worst Indian kit ever with all those big ugly design logos with big fonts...Spoil my all time favourite retro kit

Waiting for our next kit. I feel our kits have been getting better in the last few tries after a massive decline in quality under Najam Sethi

The wait won't be too long since Pakistan changes a kit every series literally.

Pakistan goes from fab to flop to fab frequently.

India needs to be more experimental with this stuff, not as crazy much as Pakistan but like Aussies do.

Fascist agenda aside, Saffron wave needs to hit Indian sports uniforms at some point :)) , good colour and largely ignored by us. Green phobia is a different level conundrum given so much green is in the flag.

The wheel is an iconic part of our flag. It would feature on our jersey. I saw some other sports jerseys displaying big wheel and it looked very patriotic to me. I think it was hockey.

Yeah, because Sethi was designing the kits and now it is Wasim’s job. I am glad to know that Wasim is a better kit designer than Sethi.

Dull one.....once everybody get accustomed to it...it would appear dull n boring....

It actually looks really nice but for the Byju sponsor bit, too large and distracting and with the MPL logo its a bit overkill.

Could be a cracker with 1-2 small changes.

Loving these new kits teams are adopting these days. Cricket is very odd in that bar some teams, nearly every side changes kit every second day. Would be cool if more sides permanently adopted kits like the Aussie one that incorporate some cultural symbols and stuff.

Always use to hear older fans saying they get nightmares seeing the 90s Indian kit.....

Now I'll get them too....:ssmith

Now that the team is winning, the kit has also started to grow on me.

Major League Baseball gives Team India’s new jersey a ‘baseball twist’

USA’s Major League Baseball has given Team India as well as their fans a pleasant surprise by giving the new jersey ‘a baseball twist’.

On Monday, they posted a picture of India skipper Virat Kohli wearing the same jersey but with the ‘baseball twist’ on their official Facebook page. The batting superstar was holding a baseball in his hand in addition to wearing the full kit and was looking dashing.
