I really don’t understand.

Pakistan need to make the 1 hour trip to Manchester before the First Test starts next Wednesday. And unpack. And not much else!

So what are they doing.....

Tuesday (today)
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Monday
Tuesday

I understand that Abbas, Shaheen and Naseem need to have a gentle workload.

But frankly, why can’t the rest of the squad play a 3 Day 2 innings match across any 3 of the next 5 days?

There is no fun of holding these practice matches, when performing in these matches is not necessary about team selection.....
If these matches were of any importance then we should not have seen the likes of Shan, Shafiq, Fawad, and Yasir being selected in final 20 member list

Shan and Fawad both scored runs in last practise game, on a low scoring match. Also it is not just the performance in side matches that cou ts for selection it is based on your actual internationals you played ,so Shan deserves to play as does Abid Ali.
Shafiq and Azhar are only selected on seniority basis to provide experience to younger players, and the fact we have none other established players.
They could have played a two day match but too many matches would bring in fatigue by the time tbeyplay the proper matches.

I think enough warmup matches have been played, you dont want to burnout players before the series. Even test series sometimes have gaps this big in between tests (Ashes 2019 for example with bigger gaps) without anything in between except training and rest.

What experience Azhar and Shafiq will provide to the younger players....
Experience of failures..
Experience how to become burden on pak team..
Experience how to score in last innings of series to get selected for next series..

The traditional England tour model was that a Test would begin on Thursday and the tourists would play a 3 Day match v a county on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then have three days off before the Test.

I can’t see why they don’t play Thursday, Friday and Saturday but with the top batsmen but two bowling attacks of:

Sohail
Shinwari
Hasnain
Wahab
Yasir

Against

Imran
Amir
Musa
Shadab
Bhatti

No chance that will happen

Agreed

This is the most well prepared Pakistani team to play in England.

They both have centuries in England...

I think they made schedule looking at the EID days.So that players will relax enjoy at hotel and talk with family back home.

They arrived 34 days before the First Test.

They should have played at least 4 x 3 Day (4 innings) matches so that the batsmen had each played 8 formal innings. And the slips were in the habit of catching.

Now they are twiddling their thumbs when they STILL have time to fit in another match.

This is just rubbish planning by the Head Coach.

No, it's fine. Most likely Friday or Saturday will be Eid day and this Eid effectively has three days. Had the eid been at the start or end of these 8 days, they could have slotted another small game.

Once more - Misbah is not responsible for every trouble with PAK team and Head Coach doesn't finalize tour schedules.

They’ve got to unpack and hide their gear in the stadium 😂. All jokes aside, you don’t want to burn players out before the start of the tour

Derby: Pakistan squad's scenarios based training underway.

Scenario based training.

Is this really ideal preparation ahead of a Test series? I think they should have played a 2 or 3 day match instead.

Why would you want them to play another game when they already have played 4 practice games including two 4-day games? especially when 1st Test is just one week away and then there's EID as well so don't think they will be doing much practice on EID atleast on the first day and rightly so imo.

They played 12 days of cricket ahead of the Test series, even if you cut out 2 days wasted due to rain, 10 days of cricket is enough preparation for a Test series & are still doing scenario based practice and not to forget that they have been in UK for a month now.

Actually, the successful 1987 and 1992 Pakistan touring sides to England also arrived 1 month before the First Test.

But they played 20 days (1987) and 14 days (1992) of matches in that month. This Pakistan team is playing 8 days of matches plus multiple days of “scenario based training”.

By all means rest the first choice pace bowlers. But the batsmen need more innings!

Because the batsmen have been struggling and need more match time in the middle, not scenario based practice.

10 days of cricket is nowhere near enough preparation ahead of a tough series especially given Pakistan haven't played for over 5 months.

To be honest, I am not sure if these joke of games help preparation apart from bringing players from 5-6 month’s hibernation. PAK tours of 1987 or 92 had similar build up towards first Test in terms of days, they played proper FC games and there was a bonus on number of wins, a prize money as well.

Nothing quite like proper matches against decent opposition.

Of course given the current situation, that was not possible, but I really do think given the poor weather they've also had, they should have arranged another 2 or 3 day practice match in Derby.

England test team is also not playing for next few days...

I think the more quickly they get over there dismal performances in practice matches the better it's gonna fare for them.

Nope the intra matches was enough

What if they struggled against second string bowling ?

Scenario based training?

Whats that babar and Asad practicising against the new ball when pakistan are 20/3 every inns.

They're taking the defensive approach (which is expected of this management). The batsmen need to go into the first test with some confidence instilled. If they were bundled out for next to nothing again it would be counter productive.
