Loving Umar Akmal's love-handles. :afridi1:ghalib

On a serious note, Sharjeel Khan, with his weight, looks strong and muscular. Like a Pehlwaan, Umar looks like an unfit vegetable.

Umar actually pushes a lot of weights. He's got body fat but there's plenty of muscle underneath.

Only Babar, Nawaz, Asad, Hafeez, Azhar and Malik have some semblance of cricket fitness.

The others are either too fat or too lean.

Don't expect the team to be much different with Azhar in for Shafiq

I expect the same poor batting.

Exactly. Wouldn't even call some of then lean. Hasan Ali looks malnourished. Even Mohammad Amir is borderline scrawny.

Bro, even if he were pushing weights with a leaner body, it would have been a disadvantage. Which of the major sportsmen in the world do you see with huge muscles and strength? Muscle makes you stiff and in turn reduces flexibility. - something quite obvious in Akmals case. And on top of the useless muscle, he is fat too.

It's fine for the openers or spinners to be fat, because they don't have to run, ex: Sehwag, Sharjeel, Warne, Imad. Akmal is in middle so he has to run which he can't.

You have to run in the field to chase the ball,or run to catch it.Nowadays fitness requirements have changed.Only a few of our players meet those standards.

Akmal cannot afford to be fat because he is short. Fat and muscle reduces flexibility. For a taller guy, someone like Inzi, it would still work out (to some extent) because hes HUGE. But for a shorter person, its just poor commitment. Also, you have to run in the field as well.

That's a misconception. Our team is full of fast runners. I am sure that Shoaib Malik can beat Eoin Morgan in a race. Or Babar Azam can beat Steven Smith. Or Mohammad Nawaz can beat Ravi Ashwin. Or Junaid Khan can beat Suranga Lakmal. The only players that can't meet "those standards" are Sharjeel, Akmal and Wasim. 81% of our players meet "those standards."

Also Inzi could RUN when he really wanted to. Akmal sahab starts huffing and puffing after taking a couple single doubles.

Inzi could've been a cricket ATG up there with Sachin and Lara had he been fit. He turned singles into doubles while fielding and doubles into singles while batting. Akmal is doing the same thing.

Inzi is still probably ATG. Borderline for sure. But yeah, and on top of that most of the time he ended up getting run out or getting his partner run out.

A few of the boys looking like they are carrying some extra baggage.......and I don't mean cricket equipment either.

Was a bad call not sending Umar and Imad on that army fitness camp. Umar wasn't this fat at the PSL last year but since then he seems to have really let himself go.

You don't really need that much muscle for cricket. Being lean is the way to go.
:moali

You can be muscular and lean. What is this misconception that Pakistanis have that if you have too many muscles you aren't lean. In fact if 2 people have equal body fat but one has more muscle he will be leaner. It's all about body fat percentage. More muscle = less body fat percentage. If Akmal can cut he can become ripped. Right now he looks about 20 % bf. If he gets it down to even 12 he'll look like an athlete.

Rayyman if Akmal can get his bf% down to Kohlis level without losing too much muscle, he will look more ripped than kohli. That's a massive if though

Getting lean while retaining muscle is hard. Pakistanis have many misconceptions. One of them is to call a fat person "healthy." I agree. Akmal is huge underneath that fat. He just needs to get rid of it. Seeing how Sharjeel got rid of his weight, I don't see why Akmal can't do the same thing.

Perhaps in the past - he had the muscle in the past, the only difference now is that his body fat percentage is probably 10-15% higher than what it was 5 years ago.

There's something called lean muscle, that's having muscle at a low body fat %.

Also lifting weights does not make you stiff, gaining a significant amount of muscle mass does make you stiff relatively as it takes more energy to move around the extra weight. If your nutrition and diet plan is spot on which international athletes should absolutely have, the sole aim of weight lifting for Cricketers should be strength and not muscle gain. This is because it will in the primary actions of bowling, batting and fielding. Though as even if you are every strict you will still gain a little amount of muscle and that is not a bad thing at all as only a large amount if muscle will slow you down.

Not really. To cut without losing muscle just lift the same weight in the gym, get enough protein and eat at a slight deficit. With the resources available to an international cricketer like Umar, it shouldn't be hard. He just needs to put his mind to it
