Pakistan U16 to tour Bangladesh next month

· “Youth cricket is a pathway to senior cricket and this features very prominently in the PCB’s cricket strategy,” says PCB Director – International, Zakir Khan

· Hashtag is #pakistanfuturestars

Lahore, 29 March 2019:

The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced the schedule of Pakistan U16 cricket team’s tour to Bangladesh. During a three-week visit, the future stars of Pakistan cricket will play two three-day and three 50-over matches.

The squad will depart for Dhaka on 25 April and open the tour with a three-day match in Fatullah on 29 April. The tour will conclude with the third 50-over match in Khulna on 15 May.

In this relation, a training camp will start at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore from 31 March and will be attended by the 26 probables who were selected for this year’s series against Australia in Dubai. The squad for the Bangladesh tour will be announced in the second week of April.

The PCB has organised this tour as part of its strategy to not only revive but lay special emphasis on youth cricket, which is a pathway to senior cricket. Earlier in January, Pakistan U16 had competed against Australia U16 in Dubai, winning the 50-over series 3-2 as well as the one-off T20.

Furthermore, this tour, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, has also been arranged looking ahead to the ACC U19 Asia Cup Bangladesh 2018, which will be staged from 29 September to 7 October, as well as the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020, which will be played in South Africa from 17 January to 9 February 2020.

Discussions with a number of other Boards on youth series as part of the Pakistan U19 cricket team’s build-up and preparations for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 are ongoing, and more details will be announced in due course.

PCB Director – International, Zakir Khan, said: “This series is a stepping stone for the U16 players for the upcoming high profile series and future events. The Pakistan U16 side displayed a good account of themselves against Australia U16 in Dubai, and now it is their opportunity to further hone their skills against an equally tough side in Bangladesh in different conditions.”

Umer Eman was the top-scorer for Pakistan in Dubai when he finished with 159 runs in five matches, while Ahmed Khan was the most successful bowler of the series with 13 wickets. He was followed by Faisal Akram (10 wickets).

Zakir Khan added: “The PCB has scheduled two three-day games as we are keen on providing an environment to our batsmen at a very young age where they can learn the art and technique of playing longer innings, and, at the same time, allow the bowlers to bowl long spells and fight tooth and nail for wickets. The longer and shorter versions of the game have to progress alongside each other so that in the longer run, we can produce sides that are equally strong at both red and white ball cricket.

“Youth cricket is a pathway to senior cricket and features very prominently in the PCB’s cricket strategy. In coming weeks, we are confident that we will make further announcements on junior tours programme, which will provide more opportunities to the talented teenage cricketers to gain experience and exposure, and at the same time be best prepared to take a shot at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020, which we last won under our present national captain Sarfaraz Ahmed in 2006.”

PCB Director – Academies, Mudassar Nazar said: “We have prepared a robust training schedule for the U16 probables, which includes a number of matches – both longer and shorter versions. This programme has been designed to give them a taste of what they will get in Bangladesh and also to improve their match fitness standards.

“Special focus is on three-day matches as these lads have never played this format of the game. You have to make a beginning from somewhere, and this might well happen here under the watch of highly-qualified and committed coaches.”

I am interested in left arm chinaman .hopefully he progress to next level .we desperately need kuldeep type bowler

Will be interesting to see the margin of loss for Pakistan. Think it will be 4-0. Anything else and i'll be pleasantly surprised.

U16 is too young team; rather they should have played U18 teams, or more precisely, each of those players eligible for 2020 U19 WC in SAF.

Umer Eman retained Pakistan U16 captain for Bangladesh

Lahore, 10 April 2019:

Left-handed top-order batsman Umer Eman was retained as Pakistan U16 captain for the tour of Bangladesh for two three-day and three 50-over matches to be played from 29 April to 15 May.

Umer, a second year student of Punjab College, was an automatic choice to captain the side after he finished as the leading run-scorer for Pakistan with 159 runs against Australia, besides marshalling his troops to a 3-2 series win in the 50-over matches as well as the only T20. He also claimed seven wickets at an economy-rate of under four with his wrist-spin bowling.

Kashif Ali of Karachi was named as Umer’s deputy. Kashif had a good series against Australia, where he aggregated 126 runs.

Also named in the squad was Multan’s opener Mohammad Shehzad who had hit two centuries (104 and 107 not out) in a three-day practice match last week as the junior selection committee, headed by Basit Ali, maintained consistency in selection by retaining 13 of the 15 players who featured in the series against Australia in the UAE earlier this year.

Shehzad played in just two 50-over matches against Australia, but his most impressive performance came in the one-off T20 when he scored an unbeaten 73 to help Pakistan achieve the 154-run target on the final ball of the match with six wickets remaining.

Also rewarded for stellar performances in the three-day practice match were Mohammad Waqas, who had scored 111 in the second innings, and Amir Hassan, the left-arm spinner, who took seven wickets for 40 runs in an innings.

Khalid, who took a couple of wickets in the three-dayer, is the other newcomer in the 16-member side, while Ali Hassan and Ayaz Shah, who were members of the 15-player squad for the series in the UAE, have been named in reserves along with Arham Nawaz and Muneeb Wasif.

Year-nine student Ahmed Khan, who was the pick of Pakistan bowlers with 13 wickets, will continue to lead the attack, which also includes left-arm chinaman bowler Faisal Akram from Multan, also a year-nine student, who took 10 wickets in the UAE.

Umer Eman was delighted to be retained as captain, when he said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be named as Pakistan captain for another important assignment. I will try my best to live up to the expectations of the selectors and justify their decision.

“The tour to Bangladesh will be an equally challenging one, which will surely bring the best out of the players. All the boys are motivated and geared up for the Bangladesh tour and aim to continue to express themselves at the international level, besides gaining valuable experience and exposure, which will benefit us in our future.”

PCB Director Academies – Mudassar Nazar, said: “These are extremely talented bunch of cricketers and we are trying to make them better through the five-star facilities we have at the National Cricket Academy. I have high hopes from these lads as I can see the spark and hunger for cricket, which can take them to higher levels through sheer hard work.

“With a number of activities taking place at the National Cricket Academy, including the presence of senior cricketers, these are exciting times for the U16 players who are also getting an opportunity to get closer to their heroes and learn from their experiences.”

The 26 probables will now play in a two-day warm-up match at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday and Friday, while 50-over practice match will be played on Saturday. Pakistan U16 to take on Bangladesh U16 in three-dayer on Monday

• “This is going to be an exciting and tough series, which will tremendously help players from either side,” says Umer Eman

Lahore, 28 April 2019:

Pakistan U16 will open their tour of Bangladesh on Monday when they will take on the hosts in a three-day fixture in Fatullah.

Pakistan is captained by top-order batsman Umer Eman, who was the leading run-getter in the 50-over series against Australia earlier this year. Kashif Ali is the vice-captain and was another star performer in the series.

Other prominent performers who shone against Australia include year-nine student Ahmad Khan, who was the pick of Pakistan bowlers with 13 wickets, and left-arm chinaman bowler Faisal Akram from Multan, also a year-nine student, who took 10 wickets in the UAE.

However, all eyes will be on Multan’s opener Mohammad Shehzad who had hit two centuries (104 and 107 not out) in the three-day practice match at the Gaddafi Stadium. Shehzad had played in just two 50-over matches against Australia, but his most impressive performance came in the one-off T20 when he scored an unbeaten 73 to help Pakistan achieve the 154-run target on the final ball of the match with six wickets remaining.

On Sunday, the two captains – Bangladesh’s Rihad Khan and Umer Eman of Pakistan - attended the trophy unveiling ceremony with Umer hoping to play a competitive series.

“This is going to be an exciting and tough series, which will tremendously help players from either side. At this level, the more we will play stiffer oppositions, the quicker we will learn and improve. This is just a start to our careers and the first step on a long road,” Umer said.

He added: “We have prepared well for the upcoming matches and it is now a matter of translating those training sessions into performances. We have the capability and the players to perform strongly, and we look forward to exciting times on the Bangladesh tour.

“These are priceless opportunities and we are committed to making most of these. The players are motivated and geared up, and I am confident we’ll give a good account of ourselves on this tour.”

Bangladesh have named top-order batsman Rihad Khan as their captain, while all-rounder Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi is his deputy.

Squads (to be selected from):
Pakistan - Umer Eman (captain), Kashif Ali (vice-captain), Ahmad Khan, Ali Asfand, Aliyan Mehmood, Amir Hassan, Aseer Mughal, Faisal Akram, Farhad Khan, Haseebullah Khan, Khalid Khan, Mohammad Shehzad, Mohammad Waqas, Rizwan Mehmood, Sameer Saqib and Zubair Shinwari (wicketkeeper).

So all this so-called practice matches and they can't even score 150 in a familiar condition. Unless there is a drastic improvement our team will be a history in future.

What a rubbish team!!!!! Most likely team is full of nepotism and favoritism. Can't expect better from Basit Ali.

Pakistan U16 bounce back after being dismissed for148

Lahore, 29 April 2019:

Pakistan U16 staged a late comeback on the opening day of the three-day match against Bangladesh U16 in Fatullah on Monday.

Mohammad Waqas scored 39 and Umer Eman chipped in with 32 as the visitors slipped from 76 for two in the 24th over to be dismissed for 148 in 50.4 overs. However, they bounced back to claim five Bangladesh wickets with the scoreboard reading 119 when play ended.

Put in bat, Pakistan U16 lost Mohammad Shehzad (four) with the scoreboard showing six. However, Sameer Saqib (10) partnered with Waqas to carry the score to 50 before returning to the hut. Waqas and Umer then added 26 runs for the third wicket to take their side to 76 before the former fell.

Waqas’ departure opened all floodgates as Pakistan lost their last seven wickets for 72 runs to be bowled out for 148. Waqas’ 39 came off 58 balls and included five fours and a six, while Umer, who was the fifth batsman out, scored a sedate 76-ball 32 with three fours and a six.

For Bangladesh, fast bowler Mushfiq Hasan claimed four wickets for 37 runs, while Ashiqur Rahman and Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi equally shared four wickets between them.

In Bangladesh’s turn at the wicket, Pakistan got a breakthrough in the first over when Sazzad Hossain Miraz was run-out without facing a ball, but Mofizul Islam Robin (28) and Sakib Shahriar (43) carried the score to 50.

At that stage, Khalid Khan pick up the wicket of Sakib and then dismissed Aich Mollah (16), while Ahmed Khan and Ali Asfand claimed a wicket each as Bangladesh U16 finished the day at 119 for five.

Rihad Khan (18) and Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi (two) will resume Bangladesh’s innings on Tuesday, while Pakistan U16 will try to capture the remaining five wickets as early as possible so that they can remain in contention to go one-up in the two-match series.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan U16 (1st innings) 148 all out, 50.4 overs (Mohammad Waqas 39, Umer Eman 32, Ali Asfand 17 not out, Mushfiq Hasan 4-37, Ashiqur Rahman 2-22, Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi 2-47)

Pakistan U16 (1st innings) 148

All that training and practice matches to be bowled out for 148 lol.

its seem like pathetic pitch .22 wicket fallen inside 4 session

Pakistan U-16 innings: 148/10 (50.4 ov),
Bangladesh U-16 innings: 139/10 (45.5 ov),
Pakistan U-16 innings: 22/2 (13 ov),

This is not a excuse for an international team like Pakistan when we always play in familiar condition. It would acceptable for 2nd Div team for 148/10 and 110/10.
In the same pitch India would have score over 300 runs. If these players selected based on merit then they are not International material but if they were selected by connection with honest system good players will overtake them in future.

I guess we'll have to just increase the foreign players' quota within the next 5 years of PSL.

Most likely get rid of crook like Basit Ali, Inzamam and find an honest selector for the team. If there is none don't waste money on these young players for overseas tours.
Just concentrate on A team and national team. No point to give free ticket for PCB members' children for overseas honeymoon in the name of cricket.

Some people defend these pathetic performance by blaming pitch. BD players in 4th innings is 83/3. What can we say about their batting performance? Luck????

Well, the bottom line is that the system is not giving us good young players.

Relax - these are almost kids. Hardly a few of them will make into top domestic level. Only purpose of age level cricket is to find 1-2 players from each series. Even if every U19 WC gives just 2 players for a 10 years career, it’s a success.

I personally am not happy with BCB’s decision to play U16 series now, because unless there is an exceptional talent, none of these boys will make the 2020 U19 WC, and many of them will be superseded by the next batch by 2022; most wont be eligible either.

My interest level is minimum for this series - should have played U18 level, so that we have a glimpse of players for next U19 WC in SAF. We might end up picking 5 spinners for that squad!!!!

Regardless the result. Batting is as bad as Zimbabwe. Also don't know how these players got selected? Based on talent or link? Both Inzi and Basit are known to be like their favorites and they are not honest with selection.

These are children, stop being so harsh on them

Until we get rid of crook and bias selector like Basit Ali and Inzamam Ul Haq we will keep loosing again and again. Our main team will have torrid time ahead of the World Cup. Even Afghanistan has good prospect to beat us. Afghan batsmen will murder Yasir so as WI & Bangladeshi batsmen. Can't imagine against English, NZ, India, SA, Aus batsmen.Only match Yasir has any hope is SL.

I am not blaming these kids because that's their ability and they tried their best but blaming selector who didn't select players through merit. If better players are selected better results would come.

Pakistan U16 match schedule in Bangladesh revised

Lahore, 4 May 2019:

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has revised the ongoing series schedule against Pakistan U16 due to Cyclone Fani. The second three-dayer, which was to be played from 5-7 May in Khulna, will now be played from 6-8 May, which, in turn, means the first and second 50-over matches will be played on 11 and 13 May respectively.

The last 50-over match in Khulna has remained unaffected, and will be held on 15 May.

Bangladesh won the first three-day match in Fatullah by five wickets.

Revised series schedule:

6-8 May – 2nd three-day match, Khulna

11 May – 1st 50-over match, Khulna

13 May – 2nd 50-over match, Khulna

15 May – 3rd 50-over match, Khulna

PAK kids have won the toss and opted to field, which is a bit surprise for Khulna track. It's normally a great batting track, but ball starts turning with duration. It's a 3 Day game (270 overs), and PAK U16 is trailing, so they decided to bowl first and make the best case to make it 1-1,but I think BD kids would have batted first also, had they won the toss.

At present 29/1 after 12 overs.
