Laudable, really?

I know the goal is to raise awareness, but is asking the whole of Pakistan to stop what they are doing and come out on the roads on a weekend really the best way to do it.

I understand that he doesn't have many options...but I don't think this will catch on or last after a couple of weeks.

I can only see the downside...if it doesn't work, then he will end up with egg on his face, and even it it does, it won't really achieve much either.
 
He has lost it and has run out of ideas. His helplessness coupled with his Messiah complex means he has no idea what to do.

Apparently his solution to putting pressure on India is for the whole country to do bhangra for 30 mins.

Thankfully I would be seeing a patient at that time so I won’t be expected to take part in this nonsense.

Tbh, I think the government is only trying to satisfy Pakistanis with these things. If there was no outrage, then people would question the government and our people are very touchy about Kashmir.

In short term, Pakistan has limited options. Our government and military establishment is not stupid, they know they'll have to play this long term. The outrage is a way for them to satisfy the Pakistani people.

I think it’s a good way of showing the public we are doing something without actually effecting a change on the ground. You get the public out, let them vent, the anger fades in a few weeks and you tell them how the world noticed, wrote stuff in the international media etc
 
Any effort to highlight the occupation, injustice and killing, be it a second long or years long is, commendable.
 
I quite like this idea and as mentioned in other threads I hope the response is good and also it gets good coverage so its picked in international media.

Such things won't put any pressure on India. IK seems to be clueless in how to handle this issue other then his usual boring and tedious lectures. Indian's are rightfully laughing at him.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has appealed to the nation to observe Kashmir Solidarity Hour on Friday (today) by coming out on roads from 12noon to 12.30pm to give a message to the world that the Pakistani nation stands by the Kashmiris who have been facing unprecedented human rights violations in India-occupied Kashmir (IOK) amid curfew which has entered the 24th day.

On the call of the prime minister, all education institutions, government and private offices, banks, traders, lawyers and military authorities will take part in Kashmir Solidarity Day events.

Vehicular traffic and government machinery will come to a standstill.

Sirens will be sounded and the national anthem will be played at 12noon across the country. Prime Minister Imran Khan will attend a gathering outside the Prime Minister Office (PMO) and later address the nation from there.

“I want all Pakistanis to come out tomorrow 12noon-12.30pm to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people and send the Kashmiris in IOK a clear message that the entire Pakistani nation stands in solidarity with them and against Indian fascist oppression, the inhumane 24-day curfew,” the prime minister said in his tweet.

PM appeals to people to come out on roads from 12noon to 12.30pm

He said in another tweet: “We must send a strong message to Kashmiris that our nation stands resolutely behind them. So I am asking all Pakistanis for half an hour tomorrow stop whatever you are doing and come out on the road to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people.”

He said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government was bent upon “cleansing of Muslims” after revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir through annulling Article 370 of the constitution.

Prime Minister Khan expressed concern over tyranny of Indian armed forces in IOK, saying children and women were also being targeted by Indian troops who are said to be over 900,000 in number.

“The daily injuring and killing of Kashmiri civilians, including women and children - all part of the ethnic cleansing agenda of the Modi government and it’s illegal annexation of IOK. The plan to change demography of IOK is a war crime under 4th Geneva Convention,” he said.

According the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Kashmir day ceremonies will be attended by civil and military officials across the country.

ISPR Director General Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor urged the youth, particularly students, to attend the Kashmir Hour events to express solidarity with the people of the held valley.

In the federal capital, the main event will be held outside the Prime Minister Office where a large gathering will be addressed by the prime minister. Earlier a rally would be staged in the city which would become a public meeting outside the PMO, Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat said.

All traffic signals will turn red at 1200 noon and remain so till 12.30pm to halt vehicular traffic. However, ambulances will be allowed to move without any hindrance as one of the lanes of roads will remain clear for emergency services.

Tight security measures will be taken on the occasion and public will not be allowed to proceed into Red Zone (outside the PMO).

Prime Minister Imran met Interior Minister retired Brig Ijaz Shah at the PMO and sought details of security measures.

According to the railways ministry, all trains will stop for one minute and all railway workers will take part in Kashmir Hour events.

Similarly, officials and employees of the National Highway Authority (NHA) will gather at the NHA headquarters and attend a ceremony in which national anthems of Pakistan and Kashmir will be played.

The officials of the secretariat blocks/ministries will gather at R-Block to attend a Kashmir Hour event.

All 138 Trains in Pakistan to halt between 12PM and 12:30PM today to show solidarity with Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Railways trains will halt for one minute on August 30 to express solidarity with the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed announced on Thursday.

In a video message, the railways minister said as many as 138 trains would halt for a minute between 12:00 and 12:30 PM on Friday.

"As many as 138 trains will observe one-minute stop across the country, whether they will be at railway stations or on tracks, during 1200 hours to 1230 hours. National anthem and songs will be played to show solidarity with Kashmiris," the minister said in his video message.

He said that routine work would also remain suspended for half an hour from 12:00 to 12:30 PM at all Pakistan Railways workshops, offices and stations.

He said this was being done on the call of Prime Minister Imran Khan to express solidarity with the struggle of the Kashmiri people.

Sheikh Rashid urged all Pakistan Railways employees and labourers to come out of their work places and gather in support of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination as per resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council.

He said that said similar events would be arranged at the Lal Haveli to show solidarity with Kashmiris, which would continue from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.

It's a matter of principle and solidarity. Those of you who aren't interested can stay home. IK is doing a good job. We should oppose oppression in any possible way we can.
 
If it is from 12 to 12:30 how can it be called "Kashmir Hour". It should be called "Kashmir half an hour".

Stand around dragging their feet, maybe chant a few slogans against fascism, perhaps ruminate on the complexities of existence, but above all pay tribute to our brave and handsome leader. That'll show the world.

"They think that Muslims should be taught a lesson, that they are not equal citizens," he said, adding: "Today the whole world is seeing what is happening in Kashmir."

Prime Minister Imran said he told all the leaders he spoke to that if the international community did not stand up to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "fascist government" the effect would be felt in the whole world.

The premier said that if India planned to take any action in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, "every brick will be countered with a stone."

"Forget the media they did not [Indian] opposition leaders go to Srinagar."

The national anthem and Kashmir’s anthem were played at the start of the event.

Another event is being held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr where President Arif Alvi addressed the crowd.

'Strong message of solidarity'
India's government, led by the Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, decided on August 5 to repeal of Article 370 of the Indian constitution, that granted occupied Kashmir special status. The government instituted a security lockdown and communications blackout to avoid violence. The clampdown is now on its 26th day.

Ahead of today's events, the premier on Thursday called on all Pakistanis to take part in Kashmir Hour to send a strong message of solidarity to Kashmiris.

"I want all Pakistanis to come out tomorrow 12 noon-12.30pm to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people and send the Kashmiris in Indian-occupied Kashmir a clear message that the entire Pakistani nation stands in solidarity with them and against Indian fascist oppression, the inhumane 24-day curfew, the daily injuring and killing of Kashmiri civilians, including women & children — all part of the ethnic cleansing agenda of the Modi government and its illegal annexation of IoK," the prime minister said via Twitter.

Pakistanis, on the appeal of Prime Minister Imran Khan, came out in droves on Friday to observe 'Kashmir Hour' from 12pm to 12:30pm to express solidarity with Kashmiris in occupied Kashmir.

Education institutions, government and private offices, banks, traders, lawyers and military authorities took part in the events. All traffic signals turned red at noon.

Small and large rallies were also held across the country by citizens, lawyers, and people from other walks of life. Various leaders took part in Kashmir Hour events including Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

In the federal capital, the main event was held outside the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) where a large gathering was addressed by the prime minister. This is a great gesture by people of Pakistan. I may hate it or question their sincerity as an Indian but still standing up for someone is always appreciation worthy.

Much for Indians to learn from whose silence has failed the Kashmiri trust.

Thousands rallied across Pakistan Friday in mass demonstrations protesting Delhi's actions in Indian-administered Kashmir in the most ambitious public protests targeting India in years.


At noon, sirens rang out across the country followed by broadcasts of the national anthems of Pakistan and Kashmir, while traffic ground to a halt for several minutes in solidarity with the rallies.

In the capital Islamabad, thousands gathered on Constitution Avenue in front of the government offices where Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the nation and vowed to continue fighting for Kashmir until the disputed Himalayan territory was "liberated".

"We will stand with Kashmir until our last breath," said Khan, while launching into a blistering attack on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and comparing his administration to the Third Reich in Nazi Germany.

The demonstration was the first in what will be weekly rallies held nationwide until Khan leaves for New York next month to attend the United Nations General Assembly, where he vowed to raise the Kashmir issue.

Tensions have soared between the nuclear-armed rivals in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's move to strip India's portion of Kashmir of its autonomy and bring it under Delhi's direct rule.

The area is currently in its fourth week of a wide-ranging communications blackout with severe restrictions on movement. Thousands of people have been incarcerated in the crackdown, sources have told AFP.

In the weeks since the move, Khan has launched a wide-ranging diplomatic offensive to counter Delhi, while vowing to fight India "until the end" if attacked and making occasional references to the possible outbreak of nuclear conflict.

Kashmir has been divided between the two countries since independence, and has been the spark for two major wars and countless clashes between the arch-rivals.

In February, the rivals again came close to all-out war, after a militant attack in Indian-held Kashmir was claimed by a group based in Pakistan, igniting ***-for-tat air strikes -- the first between nuclear-armed nations.

The protests in Pakistan came a day after its military announced the testing of a surface-to-surface ballistic missile, with the army's spokesman saying the weapon was "capable of delivering multiple types of warheads".

My opinion is that India is not in the league of bigwits.
 
US has no clout on India. The power of the Indian consumer has now made US corporations realize that India is the next big market particularly because many of them have failed to penetrate the Chinese market. Look at Netflix, they are getting big on India because of their failure in China and the challenge they are facing from Disney and others locally. As long as wall Street likes India, US presidents will continue to back India. Trump is one of a kind who had the craziness to challenge the development in Kashmir but even he doesn't feel that it is in his interest. The next liberal that comes to power will be too busy opening borders and cutting welfare checks to worry about kashmir

Ok, lets get some substantial analysis done.

You have cited India being powerhouse globally with strong consumer market. The best indicator for consumer strength is the GDP per capita. In the research conducted in May this year India ranked at 147 of 192 countries in overall GDP per capita. Obviously this does not suggest that Indian population is big consumer market simply because they dont have enough money to purchase the underlying products.

If you are looking to refute this argument by citing large population masses of India then you should be seriously concerned on the spread of wealth in your country. Fight for equality rather than corporate money grabbing conglomerates.
 
I did not claim India is a powerhouse. I simply said that India consumer market is important for global corporations. So is your point then that Indian market is not being targeted by US and Chinese corporations? Do you have evidence to that effect?
