Not sure what the big deal is but seems Sarfaraz Ahmed carrying drinks is a problem for some!

Unless I misinterpreted, Younis actually mentioned in his interview that Sarfraz was important in relaying messages to Shan. I think sarfraz is a good option to bring drinks to the players since he’s good at communication

Its not only about drinks. Its about relaying msgs to.

Anyways. The drink carrying is often rotated. We also saw fawad alam doing this duty, imam aswell and other players from the 16 man squad.

Just because you are are a senior player or ex captain doesnt mean you dont do your duty as no.12-16.

Gone qre the days of waseem akram when they narcissistic jerks who wouldnt even talk to juniors. Such things create bad atmosphere.

Thid is a problrm in pakistani culture. Too much respect is given just cause you are a senior player or ex captain.

Misbah carried drinks during a game where he had to drop himself due to bad performance. Dhoni aswell has done suxh duties.

This is just karachi media having problems and they think its some sazish of the team managment to insult sarfraz.

If sarfraz doesnt want to carry drinks, than he can remove himself from the 16 man squad. One of the reasons of the 16 man squad existing is due to substitute fielder duties and also substitute batting, bowler and keeping could be done incase of some covid related case.

Karachi media are soo centered towards only karachi region players. They should be happy about shan peforming

This would still be okay even if he was a all time great, he is very average player who just got lucky with CT win. So no problem for me

This should be a good lesson for all the players who take their place for granted after 1or 2 years of good performance. 1 year ago he was captain now he is delivering drinks

His performances for Pakistan in Test Matches were above average for a Pakistani wicket keeper as a batsman. And he has been a good enough captain for limited over format.

Comment of the thread.

Kohli and Misbah were one-off drink carriers. With Sarfraz, it's a reflection on the turn his career has taken.

Sarfraz I surely hope has no qualms about it. He seems to be a jolly fellow and non fuss creator. He handled his axe from captaincy very graciously.

On the other hand, such mentality definitely exist in all of Pakistan. Ego at any scale is one of the bigger problems in the people of our nation sadly. Ego and the colonial mentality.

Former captain carrying drinks - shameful
Former captain carrying next mans trainers -disgraceful !!

I suppose it makes a change of scenery from food box in burnage

One has to feel sorry for Sarfraz. Once upon a time he was our first choice wicketkeeper. Now he is our first choice drinks carrier.

He has average of 36 in test which mostly is because of the performances he had at start of his career in 2014. After he was made captain he became complacent & lost fitness as well resulting in his dismissal from team & captaincy.

Some Sarfaraz-backers in the media unhappy with his 'treatment'.

Same guys probably unhappy that Pakistan are doing well.

Media and press people should work hard to get some actual decent stories and interviews rather than trying to take shortcuts of creating something out of nothing.

My issue is why is with with the team to begin with, why its so hard for Pakistan to get rid of dead weights like him.

I'm sorry but no one is too important to carry drinks. People are reacting as if it's some sort of demeaning job. It isn't. If you're not in the starting XI, this is just a normal task.

In any case, as much as Sarfraz the batsman has gone downhill, I've always seen him as a relatively humble guy so I really don't think he will have any issue carrying drinks.

Nothing to feel sorry about. Players go up and down. Malik was once a Test captain and is now a T20 specialist - should we feel sorry for him?

History of Drinksmen in Cricket and the strategic evolution of the role

Inspired from ongoing discussion on Sarfraz Ahmed being made to carry drinks for Pakistan team in 1st test.

There is no doubt that modern day exploitive professionalism has convinced every low profile worker to believe he's part of something bigger, something greater.

Role of a waterboy is one such example.

Virat Kohli and few high profile players doing this role when they were sitting out in recent times has sent out a message that it is not a job is beneath your stature.

But it wasn't always the case.

Marque cricketers weren't always made to carry drinks.

Going back further, they had dedicated non cricketing staff carrying drinks to the ground.

At some point in future, the most professional cricket coach probably decided to go back in time and made it a thing and now it is a cause and effect loop. Inspired by Dark, a Netflix original.

I think issue is not with carrying drinks.
Issue with carrying shoes, that's where media is not happy.

Someone plz post the pic of australian prime minister being a waterboy

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was seen performing the duties of the 12th man in the ongoing first Test match against England in Manchester. Many clips have surfaced on the internet where the former captain can be seen carrying drinks for his teammates. He also carried shoes in the middle after the wicket of his replacement Mohammad Rizwan fell in the 71st over of Pakistan’s 1st innings with a smile on his face.

Sarfaraz didn’t find a place in Pakistan’s playing XI for the first Test and had to perform as a 12th man. This incident didn’t go unnoticed by the fans and former Pakistan cricketers who slammed the team management for disrespecting and mocking the former captain.

Sarfaraz was handed the responsibility of leading the Pakistan side in 2016. Under his leadership, the team created a milestone by winning the Champions Trophy 2017 by defeating arch-rivals India in the final. However, the Karachi stalwart was sacked as the Pakistan captain after the poor performance of the team in the 2019 World Cup.

Seeing the visuals of Sarfaraz carrying drinks and shoes, former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar thrashed the team management. The speedster said that the board should not insult a senior player like this and should treat him with respect. He further named Sarfaraz as a docile man for succumbing to the domination of the authorities.

“I didn’t like the visual. If you want to make an example out of a boy from Karachi, then it is wrong. You can’t do this to a player who has led Pakistan for four years and has won the Champions Trophy for the country. You have made him carry the shoes. If he has done it himself, then stop him. Wasim Akram never brought shoes for me.”

“This shows that Sarfaraz is such a docile and weak man. He must have led Pakistan in the same way as he carried the shoes. That’s why Mickey Arthur always dominated him. I am not saying carrying the shoes is a problem, but the former captain can’t do that,” The Rawalpindi Express quipped as quoted by India Today.

Clarifying the stance of the management and the team, Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq said that the people have made a mountain of a molehill as there is no shame in carrying drinks for the team. He added that it was not intentional and no other player was available at that moment.

well waseem akram is not a god example than. Infact, waseem akram had made a very bad team atmosphere, from which shoaib akthar, afridi and co learned from and only created problems in future.

the dressing room culture taht exists today is an example of misbahs leadership. He has left behind a culture where seniors dont think higly of themselves and the juniors trying to kiss up to them. Well somewhat

Bit difficult to determine if he’s trying to defend Sarfaraz or insult him.

Wasim Bhai, Inzy bhai, Imran bhai, Javed bhai they were never asked to carry shoes and drinks for junior cricketer.

This is modern day exploitation, harrassment and insult in the name of professionalism.

“Senior players like Amir and Wahab who are also sitting out, are not even in their kits. They are wearing tracksuits. This is not team spirit, but the greatness of Sarfaraz because he is passionate about the game. This should not have happened,” *Rashid Latif* stated as quoted by India Today.

amir and wahab are not in the squad of this test match. As usual, our ex cricketers have no idea what is happening

Erm somebody explain to this expert that neither are in the 16-man squad.

Can’t wait for more people accussing PCB for anti-Muhajir bias.

No one has brought that up yet though have they? It seems like it’s something you want to happen.
topic, it’s an non-issue, Sarfaraz doesn’t seem petty enough to be bothered by something like this.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of journalists still arguing that Sarfaraz carrying drinks/shoes shows that PCB/Misbah/Waqar etc. are against Karachi cricketers.

THese people are idiots. Do they not know from where Asad Shafiq or Shan Belong from? Misbah plays asad regularly for gods sake

The poster I quoted said “Muhajir” not Karachi. There may be a “Karachi lobby” but they don’t care about ethnicity. I believe guys like Rashid Latif/Basit Ali would also complain if/when other Karachi cricketers like Younis Khan and Afridi were dropped. They are clearly biased towards Karachi but I don’t think they care about what ethnicity the players are.

LOL I absolutely loved that. A pathetic player who should have never played in the national has been made into some kind of hero.i would love to see that again in other test matches as well.

I have listened to this so called expert few times.he speaks some high level **.Awful mentality.

Its silly of Journalists to respond to them then, you only encourage these petty squables to continue happening.

Like him or not he clearly deserved to play for Pakistan. His batting stats in test were enough to justify the amount of matches he has played. He is rightly out of the team now but your hate for him seems pretty ott. Don’t really understand the intense hate some have for a guy like Sarfraz, I mean sure he shouldn’t be in the team now but can’t deny what he achieved in the past.

Also what would you love to see again, him carrying drinks? So you agree that he should be in the 15 man squad.

Agreed on that.

It happens all the time. I actually wish it would stop happening.

I think what tick most of them off were the memes. There were some hilarious memes on sarfraz yesterday :))

Non-Karachi folks won't understand. Their gaon dehat only have one ethnicity.
