He looks a very organized player. Technically sound and good judgement of the off stump. Looking forward to his development. Good shot-making ability as well.

Keep an eye on him.

Been smashing it in domestic recently averaging 75 and 48 in the last FC and 50 over competitions. Was given his international debut too early but there's definitely potential.

A good young replacement for Marlon Samuels in the Test middle order as he's been mediocre in the format for some time.

He just needs one big innings to kick-start his career. Hopefully sooner than later.

His front foot movement is quite impressive.

Seemed to be more interested in cup of chai shai today than batting properly. But a hope for future sure.

Impressed with quite a few players that have come through the WI ranks recently. He is certainly one of them. I dislike their T20 mercenaries, but this bunch looks likable.

Batting like Misbah at the moment, seems to be over-compensating after he tried going the Afridi route in the last match.

pathetic innings today so far.

Have to be the worst of the series.

25 off 62, SR of 40

Wouldn't judge him on this innings, Guyana pitch is not easy to bat on with it offering spin, and being so slow and low. He played at a SR of 80 in the recent domestic 50 over competition.

He'll cut loose with a bit more confidence and time.

Keep an eye on Roston Chase as well. These guys are different from the likes of Pollard, Gayle, Bravo brigade.

Playing a gem today in difficult conditions.

Despite his initial failures in tests I will give him time. Top Prospect.

Windies have good ingredients for a nice test side. Brathwaite, Hope, Hetmayer, Chase and Dowrich are all batsman who can take this team forward. Jason Muhammad is another one who can be inducted.

They just need to find better bowlers to give their batsmen a chance. Even a mediocre batting lineup like Pakistan is scoring 400 against them in every innings.

We scored 400+ in Australia too. :danish

He was Given Test Debut when he was averaging under 20 in FC Cricket. There was a lot of criticism at his selection and than He had miserable first 3-4 tests. Don't remember that he crossed the gigantic 15 runs mark than.

Today when he came out to bat after 9 Tests he was averaging 14.75 in Test Cricket. He was most likely to be dropped after this Test but from the word go he played confidently and has played a very good innings.

Finally Jeffry Dujon & CD's trust paid off.

Hope is playing a quality knock. Hope that Hope gets out soon.

And also got dismissed two or three times in 100-200 range. Sign of a mediocre batting lineup

Yeah but if we scored 400 against the Australian bowling attack then it's no big deal no be scoring 400 against this lineup.

I think WI have bowled well overall with Gabriel impressive mainly. Joseph has been good but inconsistent.

Back on topic, Hope couldn't have chosen a worse time to play his first proper knock in Test cricket. :(

Shai Hope played an outstanding innings, says Jason Holder

West Indies scripted a stunning victory on Thursday after bundling out Pakistan for just 81 runs on the final day of the second test in Barbados on Thursday. Fast bowler Shannon Gabriel picked up five wickets while middle order batsman Shai Hope scored 90 to make a valuable contribution with the bat.

Speaking about the win skipper Jason Holder said,”It was a collective team effort. We got runs in the first innings which I felt was crucial, and we were able to back it up with a solid second innings performance on that kind of pitch. I think credit must go to Shai Hope, and obviously our bowling department was outstanding the entire game.

“We felt if we could give them anything in excess of 170, we were in with a really good chance on a day-five pitch. It was all about being patient, we needed to hit our lengths, and use our cutters, cross-seam deliveries, anything that would give us assistance of the wicket. We dropped one or two chances, an area we need to improve on, but it was still a strong collective team effort.”

However, Jason Holder had only one regret and that was Shai Hope missing out on a maiden Test century. “His innings was outstanding. He likes batting here; I think he has two double centuries at this ground. And it’s good he came here, playing his second Test match here, and went on to score a half-century. Unfortunately he didn’t go on to score a hundred, I felt he deserved it, but that’s the way cricket goes. But I felt his innings was really crucial. He was patient and selective. He played on merit and was able to get a good score for us.”

Defo a great innings,he's quite a good player.

This West Indies squad has a lot of potential.

Hope's technique has come through in testing conditions at Headongley.

Bat and pad together, playing the ball late, head nicely over the ball and has left well.

Solid fifty, needs to cash in and make a hundred now to give Windies a lead.

Quality knock. Hope he carries on and the Windies get a big lead here.

Classy knock today. Good spot Chief Destroyer

Great knock today, since the test series versus Pakistan earlier in the year I have thought he had the ability just needed a score to get him started. Will be a good player for West Indies.

Looks a pretty good batsmen and is having match of his life here, imagine a hundred in each inns and winning a test match for your country.

That 1st hundred has kick started his career. He's got the confidence now that he belongs at this level and there isn't any reason why he shouldn't go on to score a load of runs.

First batsman to score twin centuries at Headingley, wow.

REMEMBER THE NAME.

Don't fade away like all the other young promising Windies bats now Shai Hope.

He has given the WI's A New Hope :afridi

Good call Chief, that's why I say stick to the cricket :yk

He won't. He has something different from other WI players and that is hunger for runs and improve.

Fantastic performance by Hope in this Test, really looking forward to seeing him play well for WI in the future, looks like he can become the poster boy for WI in Tests.

Fantastic propspect.

Solid backfoot game and capable on the front foot as well.

Above all he knows his game - both defence and attack.

It's great for WI they have finally found some genuine Test batting talanet after such a very long time.

If he can improve his game against spin and I am pretty sure he will, he will become a modern day great. Has all the tools and already one of the best against fast bowling in current time.

Already has more substantial test innings than Kohli.

Fantastic prospect. The more I have watched him the more I have been convinced that he will be a good batsmen.

As good as Hope is, I'm even more excited for Hetmyer who's a freak.

He is too loose for test cricket. Just because you like to emulate Lara doesn't mean you can be him.

I remember Hetmayer was the captain of the Windies u19 team in the recently held WC and in the final WI were cruising along chasing a nothing target against India and Hetmayer was batting well. In true Lara fashion he tried to get on top of the dibbly dobbly spinner but hit it straight down long on's throat a far distance inside the boundary. This sparked a collapse and WI barely inched over the line.

Its nice to be talented and aggressive but the best batsmen are those who know when to defend. This kid is good but he still has a lot of growing to do.

No, he's not loose at all. Just inexperienced. He's as good as Hope technically.

The standout quality about Hetmyer is he's fearless like Lara and Ponting. He will take the game on against the best.

Windies' Shai Hope tipped as future 'great'

London - West Indies batsman Shai Hope could become a modern "great", coach Stuart Law said on Tuesday ahead of the Test series decider against England.

The tourists' 23-year-old batsman starred in their shock five-wicket victory in the second Test last week, becoming the first player in Headingley's history to hit a century in both innings of a match.

West Indies -- who were once the most feared team in world cricket -- were widely written off after they crashed to defeat by an innings and 209 runs in the first Test at Edgbaston.

But they now have the chance to win their first Test series in England since 1988 after Hope's first two centuries in Test cricket -- 147 in the first innings and an undefeated 118 in the second innings.

"He's a rock, isn't he?" said Law, who recalled a telling conversation with Hope before start of play on the final morning in Leeds.

The coach of the Caribbean side suggested to the player that the tourists, chasing 322 for victory, could bat until tea, then see if there was still a shot at pushing for victory.

"He looked at me and I said 'What's wrong with that?'," said Law. "He looked at me (again), shook his head and shrugged his shoulders -- and I said 'OK, what's your plan?'

"'We're going to win' (he said). That's God's honest truth... (and) he went out and won the game."

The Australian added: "I think the fact he wasn't over the top in his celebrations just means he's hungry, he's driven. He doesn't want to stop where he's at now, he wants to keep going. I think that's a great sign.

"He's a tough cookie. He's pretty good now, but he's got the potential to go great."

Law retained faith in his charges despite their first-Test trouncing.

"I've seen these guys at close quarters -- I've talked to them," he said. "Just the responses they give you, there's immense confidence there.

"There's probably a couple that doubted their ability to cope at this level but I hope those doubts are now well and truly put to bed and they can start flourishing."

The third and final Test starts at Lord's on Thursday.

Is Shai Hope a ODI batsman ?

His SR usually hovers around 70.

The lad really don't know how to rotate strikes let alone he can't really find the fence naturally

He can massacre the pace of the game though that's what he really capable of

he has a good ODI average but I've noticed a few times his SR is really low even once he has been batting for a while. West Indies should give him a few more chances in ODIs but if he doesn't improve his strike rate he should play tests only

Been outstanding today in this Zimbabwe Test. On a wicket offering appreciable turn even on Day 1 in Bulawayo and despite continually losing partners - Hope is still out there.

Deserves a ton for his efforts today.

He had been struggling to put together an innings for a while now. Good to see him finally get some runs under his belt again.

Kinda choked in the end

See the bigger picture. Analyze whether it was really a choke considering their batting strength and inexperience. Put yourself in his position and think of the scenarios playing out in his mind. He had no room to make an error whatsoever. He's not batting in India or England's lineup.

Anyways, that's not why I bumped the thread. The importance of these runs is to build the player, Shai Hope, even if he wasn't able to get his team across the line.

Great hundred today from Hope!

Second highest score from his team being 19.

Hope could be "one of our best ODI players ever" – Jason Holder

West Indies captain Jason Holder heaped praise on wicket-keeper batsman Shai Hope, saying that the 25-year-old opener has the potential to be among the country’s best one-day international players ever.

Hope has been in imperious form in the ongoing tri-series in Ireland, where he has reeled off back-to-back centuries. In the series opener against the hosts Ireland, Hope struck a career-best 170 and partnered John Campbell for a 365-run opening stand – the highest for the first wicket in ODI history. West Indies racked up 381/3 and won by 196 runs.

In the next game, against Bangladesh, Hope’s 109 was integral in lifting West Indies to 261/9, as the rest of the line-up wobbled slightly. During the course of that innings, Hope also crossed 2000 ODI runs, becoming the fastest West Indian to the mark. Hope got there in 47 innings, beating the great Viv Richards by one innings.

“Shai has been our most consistent player over the last two years,” Holder said. “He’s the quickest West Indian to 2000 runs, which is a really phenomenal feat. I saw the list of guys on the TV and it’s really good to have him in that company, and if he continues in that vein, he could be arguably one of our best ODI players to ever play.

“Performances like that is something we’re definitely looking for. John [Campbell] got a hundred in the first game, [but] unfortunately, wasn’t fit enough to play the second. But hopefully, we can get him back on the park and firing on all cylinders once more.”

West Indies have, by far, the best net run rate of the three teams, and a win over Ireland on Saturday, 11 May, will put them back at the top of the table as well as take them a step closer to the tri-series final.

After picking up a dominant win in the series opener against Ireland, West Indies couldn’t quite keep it up in the second game against Bangladesh. However, Holder was overall pleased with where things stood ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

“I’m happy with how things have gone so far,” he said. “I think the guys have been working really hard, they’ve been very disciplined. We probably weren’t at our best in the last game, but we’ve had tons of discussions over the last couple of days as to how we can get better and how we can improve, which is what you want in a young group like this one. I’m very positive that we can bounce back against Ireland, and when we play Bangladesh the second time around, we’ll put up a much better performance.”

You're starting to see his true capabilities now that he's got a strong group around him.

Funny thing is he's not even the most dangerous batsman on that team, Hetmyer is. When he matures, the cricketing world will be in trouble.

He is a wonderful talent who is just about reaching his peak at a great time

West Indies have got a good mix of batsmen. In amongst the power hitters like Gayle, Lewis and Russell you have two solid batsmen in Shai Hope and Darren Bravo who can stabilise the innings if needed.

They just need to find a quality spinner to complete their team, and improve their spin playing techniques.

Passed 1000 runs in the Calendar year for WI at an average of 51 but striking at 78.

Decent player but needs to improve his strike rate- can get bogged down easily.

Also has feasted on BD and other minnows mostly so far.
