[PICTURES] The Careem Ad causing controversy in Pakistan

nothing offensive, our patriarchy society feels insecure by this

The males in the society were really angered by the aurat march, they feel threaten day by day

btw our interior minister who now adays acts as the SHO of Pakistan, even called the careem representatives over regarding this issue.

This is how pathetic our govt is, they take such matters very serious.

Our govt also prefers that our society continues to be backwards

Extremely offensive and brainwashing our girls into abandoning their values and traditions. Running away from weddings? Wow, thats a whole new level of low for advertising.

If a girl is going to run away from her wedding because of this Careem ad, she probably has major issues already. While I agree that this ad is unnecessary, the uproar has been over the top and hyperbolic.

It is not offensive but stupid. Why make an add when you know it will insinuate something a conservative society would hate.

No he didn't.

That was fake news.

The images circulating are from a few months ago :)

Yes the reaction has been OTT. But the add is offensive imo. things like these over a period of time put suggestions into the subconscious.

A girl who likes the groom will not runaway.

If it is a forced marriage, then its better to runaway using Careem than marry and suffer for the rest of her life.

Happiness in Life > Age old Values and Traditions.

Such an obscene ad featuring a bepurdah aurat promoting be-hayai and beghairati has no place in a civilized society. It is rightly said, a whistling woman and a crowing hen, is neither fit for god nor men.

British Pakistani here whose family speaks Pothwari so my Urdu is almost non-existent.

Does the first billboard say something about running away from the wedding using their bike service?

Poor way of looking at things. You can have a banner or bill board to denounce forced marriages. However only a stupid or evil person would encourage the bride to run away from marriages on wedding day.

Forced marriage is a big issue in Pakistan. This advertisement board just unmasked those who are wittingly or unwittingly complicit in the sustenance of this tradition.

On it's own it looks silly but you can see Careem are trying to produce a series of funny adverts. Nothing much wrong with it and it's a good advert as people will remember it.

I was just going to say, going by the reaction here it seems to have done its job..

Nothing wrong with the ad, it just tried to be funny. Even if you take it literally, if a girl does not want to marry someone, she should be free to make her choice.

Which values and traditions encourage forced marriages anyway?

Good ad, we should highlight the flaws in our societies, in this case, forced arranged marriages.

If people are getting triggered for the right reasons, it means they struck a cord with what is wrong with the general stigmas in the country.

It did it’s job, but I wonder how supportive careen Managment would be given they are going to acquired by Uber at some stage

LHC to hear petition calling for removal of Careem advertisement

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday accepted a petition for hearing against ride-hailing service Careem for an allegedly unethical advertisement, and issued notices to the Punjab government and others to submit their responses by April 5.

The LHC was petitioned regarding the matter last week as well, but had disposed off the petition and directed her to approach the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority for redress of her grievance. Today's petition was accepted for hearing by the court.

The petitioner today claimed that Careem used "unethical language" on its billboard, with the tagline, "Apni shaadi se bhagna ho tau Careem Bike karo (Use a Careem Bike if you want to run away from your wedding)."

The petitioner claimed that the advertisement is against Islamic teachings, and a violation of Article 31 of the Constitution, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Act 2012 Section 21, and PHA Lahore Regulations 2013 Clause 10.

The petitioner pointed out that the PHA is responsible for granting permission to put up billboards and other advertisements in the city, asking how such 'unethical' slogans could be displayed despite the PHA being in place.

The petitioner requested that the "immoral and indecent" advertisements be removed immediately, Careem be fined, and orders issued for action against the relevant PHA officials.

The LHC accepted the petition and issued notices to the Punjab government and others, ordering them to submit their responses to the matter by April 5.

It's called destructive marketing and is designed to attract attention. These Careem ads are hilarious!

India's Indigo Airlines are notorious for this.
