[PICTURES] Unprofessional behaviour, poor diets and smoking

PCB chairman says no action till after worldcup.

what a shame that our chairman saying such a things. means let them party in UK then he will ask them why you do that.
its all over the news.

It's common knowledge that Pakistan players look forward to coming to England so they can hit the food joints on their nights out. For many of them it's the highlight of their careers. Just look at Umar Akmal. He was actually quite trim for the PSL, by the time he reached Dubai a couple of months later he'd put on a stone. I was joking in the match thread that they would all be looking forward to Wilmslow road after the game in Manchester.

It's all over the news in Pakistan so I'd be very surprised if it is the last we hear of this.

Name, shame and punish them. We need to start using professionalism and not just as a word. There has to be a stop to this idiots that embarrass and shame their fans, the same fans that spend hundreds/thousands of pounds to watch their supposed idols. These players aren't worth the hassle.

Wahab claims he dreamt about coming over for the WC and playing in it. This is how he reacts?

If the management was okay with this than there's something monumentally wrong with those idiots. In which way is it okay to go to a Sheesha Bar and Burger joint in the middle of the WC, let alone a day or two before the biggest game the country plays.

Pathetic doesn't fully comprehend what I, and many fans, feel for these bunch of holiday-makers disguised as players.

When they were in Nottingham they were in Anoki restaurant eating lamb karahi.

You cannot be eating Cheese burgers (meal deal with chips and Irn Bru or coke) on the eve of an important game.

Absolutely pathetic. Lack of ability is one thing, not being fully prepared is another.

You are playing in the most important tournament of your sport. You owe it to yourself to be as best prepared as possible. That means being disciplined and ensuring nothing will affect your physical performance.

These guys are jokers. Honestly, I have lost all interest in this WC now. These losers deserve to be humiliated and crash out at the bottom of the table.

It's about being a professional athlete...it is no coincidence that Pakistan has been the most unfit on the field, with fielding errors and dropped catches in abundance. Smoking is bad for your health it will reduce your cardiac ability / oxygen levels , and endurance ... as an athlete you have to give your 100% commitment to succeed , it's not as though they are the most talented so have to work extra hard .... theirs thousands in Pakistan that would give anything to represent Pakistan, can they not even give up smoking for few weeks at a world cup where millions of fans and whole nation are supporting them?

It was difficult to take photos when they were in bristol as restaurant manager made it clear to leave them in peace and to give them privacy...but I saw with my own eyes the unhealthy food and large portions they were eating of oily /fatty/sugary food then in Manchester were pictured buying food from archies diner you cannot get more unhealthy food....Not was you would expect in the diet of an elite sportsman ... Australians, England, Indians, new zealand etc would never eat such unhealthy foods and it shows in the field , whilst they look fit, lean and muscular... Pakistan players look pudgy , soft and slow.

Finally to be pictured at a sheesha lounge 2am in the morning before a vital world cup clash is shameful.

Defend them all you want but don't be surprised by such performances all world cup...I think they should be held accountable and we need a culture change where u have to be a professional athlete lifestyle to play for pakistan national cricket team otherwise support meritocracy.

Mediocracy

Nothing wrong in a prof player relaxing or letting their hair down...as long as they know their limits or donot do it on eve of a match....but smoking...shisha , vape or whatever....Gee whiz...thats a no no....no brainer, the smoke traces in your metabolism for more than 30 hours slows you down, your lung power decreases (not by humongous amounts but enought to leave you panting after the 40th over instead of after the 50th over or thereabouts)....

They can eat and do what they like long as they have working hard on their fitness, training and more importantly winning matches. None of this seems to be happening. You get the feeling they gave up on the world cup even before the tournament started. Major clear out required.

Terrible behavior if true.Do they realize that they are here on a high profile event which is a part of their job, that they are being paid for.Not an all expenses paid trip for holidays by the PCB.

If Umar Akmal can be shamed all over the media and singled out as the black sheep of PCT(and rightly so)than why not the same treatment for these players for similar offenses. Why the double standards?

When they were in Nottingham they were in Anoki restaurant eating lamb karahi.

A pakistani going to UK to eat lamb Karahi is akin to a Japanese travelling to Karachi to eat Sushi. I am sure they make better Karahis in Lahore Food Market. Somebody give them the address

It wasn't the day before the match. The media and certain journalists are jumping up and down claiming this, but it isn't correct.

It doesn't matter if was day before or week before how do you defend eating burgers, chips, curries, naan and milkshake deserts sheesha and smoking cigarettes for professional athletes ?

One picture is showing Hassan Ali buying street food (dont know what), but despite that is very fit athlete. Why isn't he performing?

What makes you think Hasan Ali is at PEAK physical fitness? That's what the standards should be. Not just being "fit" but being at PEAK FITNESS.

Where is the nutritionist in pak set up , why aren't they being cooked high protein natural meats , and vegetables? Why go out partying smoking cigarettes and sheesha ... I saw likes of imad , imam and wahab smoke whole packs of cigarettes ?

Fitness culture in Pakistan is lacking. Indians have picked it up and massive thanks to Salman khan for bringing the gym culture back in the day which now has turned into a fitness/cross-fit culture in major cities.
Now with Kohli as role model for next generation it will only improve.

Pakistan need a role model to bring in the fitness culture. Unless people start enjoying running they will never be top notch athletes. I assume weather in Pakistan would be much better than India so should invest in fitness culture from childhood.

Hate to burst your bubble, but those players just don't have the cricketing skills to beat the top sides, whether they had a perfect lifestyle off the field or not.

As most of us agreed, only 2 Pakistani players at the most would make this current Indian side. Personally I'd say only 1, and that's Amir, due to his good form.

Naw they do but they just don't want to learn and are happy to bank on talent..

I can understand fast bowlers taking in a lot of calories as they burn most of it out during the game. But people who are already chonky (im looking at you Sarfaraz) shouldn't be munching on cheeseburgers and chocolate shakes. Smoking is a big no no too. Im not criticizing them for smoking hookah and stuff but im just disappointed at the way they take care of themselves. If you're serious about your game and your career then you would never go near these things. If anyone watches football here in the USA, take Tom Brady for example. He's close to 40 years of age but is still miles ahead from all the young quarterbacks in the league in terms of his fitness. That's simply because he is extremely meticulous about his diet. He has it down to the science, what he eats, what he drinks, everything he puts in his body is for a reason.
meanwhile our players are eating sodium and carb rich foods that increases liquid retention and makes your bloaty, slows your metabolism, makes you lethargic etc right before the game. Add that to the stress and anxiety of playing an Ind/ Pak game, losing sleep, cannot be good for your game.

It will never come to Pakistan. There is a really ugly and false sense in Pakistanis that they are healthier than Indians and our food is better than Indians. Paksitanis consider fat as healthy. Anyone that is slim and trim is considered weak (like how we consider Indians).

The only fit person on the entire team is Shaheen Afridi. And I can tell he probably works on his fitness at least a bit.

Time to kick out the likes of Imam, Wahab and Imad. A thorough professional like Shan Masood who is dedicated and continually improving should be made captain. Anyone who can’t hit 18 in the yoyo tests should not be made available for selection. Enough is enough.

I'm referring to the hoopla in the media about 'players were at shisha cafe till 2am in the morning on the eve of a big match'. Which implies that they gave up adequate amount of rest in order to party or have fun, which is not the case, but that is definitely the portrayal in the media.

Regarding diets and health practices, the concerns are valid.

None of these pics are from the time and place claimed by a few posters on this thread or twitter, but for some reason this thread exists to perpetuate false innuendo.

To be honest a lot of perception of Pakistanis I think is based on probably your media showing skinny/malnutritioned Indians. Our poverty rates were pretty high and malnutrion was extremely high. But now in major cities the fitness is way better. We still have a long way to go but the fitness in major cities is going good.

I have never been to Pakistan so I can't comment on your fitness culture, but if it's not there someone needs to bring it.

I'll give you an example when I started working out 10-11 years ago I used to only work on upper body strength and my trainers weren't good enough to tell me what to do.. then after an incident I joined martial arts training (amateur level) and there the focus was entirely different. Nowadays trainers have matured and knowledge about fitness is easily available to anyone on internet so in Delhi atleast the kids these days will embarass some of the Pakistani players.

You need a role model to start fitness culture. It starts slowly, in India it was Salman khan who brought the gym culture during our time. Pakistan need a role model who can inspire kids to work out, just being fit won't inspire anyone (Malik, shadab are fit) he needs to be super successful as well for kids to want to be like him. It doesn't necessarily have to be a cricketer any celebrity can trigger the phenomena and then next generation you will get a talented and fit cricketers to inspire future generations.

Idiotic thread from the mullah/moral brigade. Just because Shoaib is with friends at a sheesha/hookah joint doesn’t mean he was ripping that thing all night long. Even if he was it should not be used to make a judgement on him. Talk about the players performance all you want and judge them based on that. No one has a right to criticize what anyone does in their personal lives. All these fans were praising Wahab after the England game but somehow because they lost the last game his smoking is an issue. These players are not your kids they can do what they like just how you all do in your lives. Seriously. Get over it.

Oh I agree it's a false perception from Pakistanis. These are all misconceptions by Pakistanis to make us falsely feel proud. My fiancee is Indian and it opened my eyes. She is lighter skinned than me, their food is just as good as ours and they are fit. You guys are doing a great job on fitness have to give kudos. I actually think from a cricketing standpoint Yuvraj started the fitness trend in India but of course Kohli took it to another level. Right now we don't even have our Yuvraj.

I actually think it was Dravid. He may not have had big muscles. But Dravid worked damn hard on his fitness. He was very well conditioned and could play those long knocks(in terms of time consumed) in test cricket that nobody else could in the Indian team at that time. He is a classic example of a guy who maximised his ability through sheer hard work.

In general people from Pakistan side of the border have always been bigger and stronger when it comes to natural physic. But that wont stop India or any other country finding 10-20 better cricketers obviously.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: All players adhered to curfew timings night before India vs Pakistan, says PCB

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has insisted that its players did not stay out of the team hotel beyond the curfew time the night before the World Cup game against India after videos circulated on the social media claimed otherwise.

A video of Pakistani players at a cafe and captain Sarfaraz Ahmed yawning on the field in the match against India have become big discussion points in Pakistan following the 89-run loss to arch-rivals in Manchester on Sunday.

But a spokesman for the PCB made it clear that no player had violated the curfew timings set by the team management.

"The video under discussion was of two days back. On the night before the match, all the players were in their rooms before curfew time," he clarified.

The video in which Shoaib Malik and his Indian tennis star wife Sania Mirza are seen with Wahab Riaz and Imam-ul-Haq has led to different theories and stories on social and mainstream media.

He also said that players went out with their families after taking due permission from the team manager.

The viral video has also led to Indian tennis star Sania tweeting that whoever recorded the video had not done the right thing as it was an invasion of privacy and that players eating out with their families was not a crime.

There has also been a discussion on Sarfaraz yawning on the field and many have questioned whether the PCB's decision to allow players to have their wives and children stay with them in the World Cup was right.

I don't think dravid started a fitness revolution. Yuvi did inspire kids, I think with the growing economy and easily available internet and rise in number of people having access to cable TV. Players like Ronaldo, Federer, bolt, Messi inspired more kids than probably someone like dravid and maybe Yuvi too.

I believe Kohli himself took inspiration from Ronaldo. Nowadays kids watch every sport and can get inspired by someone playing basketball as well..
ar2020 I guess it same both sides, many of the Indians have a very poor reflection of Pakistanis/Pakistan. They have never met any Pakistani however the perception they have is extremely poor. The media over the years have imbibed in the minds of people a poor image of Pakistanis..

The Pakistan players and Pakistan management should take responsibility for their unprofessional behaviour.

I saw them myself personally in Lona (restaurant in bristol) they were eating the most unhealthy food and sugary drinks and many were smoking . They were nice enough to take pics with me but didn't even have the shame to hide their cigarettes in the pictures. I have a photo of our premier fast bowlers smoking and they smoked throughout the evening. Luckily the game was rained off as they were out late at night eating junk and smoking.

Yesterday the whole team was pictured in archies diner buying burgers, chips, milk shakes and big deserts and in the night they were pictured on wimslow rd in sheesha joints smoking.

It's not even the juniors I'm talking about our senior players .... these are supposed to be professional athletes....Indian players are probably keeping a protein diet and training non stop but Pakistan players are in party mode.

Have they got no shame.

I can post pics ... I think they should be shamed

Is Fitness really the issue?

According to a graph posted on this site, Pak has the 3rd best yo-yo score out of all countries and yes, they top India by some margin.

Looking at how most of the younger guys move, the yare pretty athletic and dive around very well with good stamina. The ability to rotate strike and take singles has greatly improved in recent times and they have done it really well in the world cup.

The problem is the bowling is not good enough and certain players are playing who should not be. The batting is good up top and lacks consistency in the lower middle order. These are cricketing fixes that are needed, for skill and technique, not fitness changes.

I wonder what happened to Mickey Arthur's fitness crusade which he promised never to compromise on?

The people saying it's their personal life, yes do whatever you want on your off-days. But two days before a game don't go out eating burgers and drinking milkshakes after a training session.

As far as the photo in the shisha lounge, that was at 8pm the night before the India game.

In general people from Pakistan side of the border have always been bigger and stronger when it comes to natural physic. But that wont stop India or any other country finding 10-20 better cricketers obviously.

India is a massive country and majority of the people were malnutritioned who couldn't achieve the potential growth. This carried for decades and is still going on resulting in shunted growth.

However the ones who got proper nutrions were as strong as anyone else. People from the north are generally bigger and stronger due to proper diet.

You are just thinking of the big Pakistanis however Pakistan has same problems as India I think. Akmals, Ajmals, Barbars etc are same as any Indian .. So it's a misconception that Pakistanis are bigger or stronger. Some Pakistanis are bigger and stronger than most Indians whereas some Indians are bigger and stronger than most pakistanis.

I actually think it was Dravid. He may not have had big muscles. But Dravid worked damn hard on his fitness. He was very well conditioned and could play those long knocks(in terms of time consumed) in test cricket that nobody else could in the Indian team at that time. You can see the difference in fitness/professionalism mindset between Indians and Pakistanis on this thread. Half the Pakistanis are going "we only care about results" not realizing in this day and age, fitness/athleticism/professionalism largely dictate the result. Pretty much all the Indians on this thread understand that.

Every major cricketing nation has talent now. What differentiates them is how seriously they take training, practices, diet, fitness, and match preparation.

Most Pakistanis still think we can win consistently based on talent alone and that is the core problem of why many of them don't want the domestic system altered.

Imad Wasim, what a disgrace. Pathetic fielder. Lost fitness test as per sarfraz. Lost fitness test before this world cup fitness test as well. This guy has an attitude. A bad one for the team.

I am short on skills, I can stop eating burgers but wont become kholi i am sure of that.

Do you think Kohli got where he is today by eating ladoos and burgers? Professional sportsmen have a totally different mindset when they get to that level.

Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza are facing the legal case in Manchester for bringing a kid in Shisha Lounge after Sania Mirza admitted on Twitter.

Popcorn Time :jk...

Can you show me a picture of a Pakistani player eating a burger on this tour

He openly admitted in one of his interviews he used to eat butter chickens everyday before he decided to change. Didnt stop him from breaking into one of the most famous batting line ups in the world. Then ofcourse once you have so much skill you can do even more with it with proper fitness.

Cricket will always remain a skill based game mostly.

Of course it is a skill based game, but once you reach this level, you can't behave like amateurs any more. No one is going to complain if a player is not good enough, it is when they are unprofessional that fans get fed up.

What does smoking have to do with this? Many cricketers smoke. Remember hearing Flintoff talk about how half the England team including Harmison and a few others used to smoke like chimneys during stopovers in airport smoking lounges. They won the Ashes a few months later.

Whenever the team does badly people start focusing on so many irrelevent things whereas the focus should be on their poor strategy.
There is no clarity in team selections, toss decisions and bowling plans which is why they are doing so poorly.
Not because they are smoking cigarettes or eating at restaurants.

When you are serious about the business , then those things that u mentioned will come into play..

It is all about the attitude, mindset and fitness..

Okay thats your point of view. My opinion is we need better players as in players who have more skilled who can bowl like kuldeep bowl to babar or punish every single bad bowl like rohit.

Where did I say in my comment that he is at PEAK physical fitness? And what this PEAK fitness is? Care to put meat on the bone?

Imad Wasim, what a disgrace. Pathetic fielder. Lost fitness test as per sarfraz. Lost fitness test before this world cup fitness test as well. This guy has an attitude. A bad one for the team.

Little kids getting a bit of freedom away from their reserved habitats in rawalpindi and letting their hair down
Every one that’s ever gone to freshers week will know the feeling

Now they’ve shown the world how free they really are in Manchester, hopefully they become a little more professional in Lords or they’ve be going to Rawalpindi very speedily

Why isn't the elephant in the room being addressed here? Player's families/relatives on tour serve no purpose other than distractions, at least until the KO stages!

Someone asked how comes England has developed as a team over the years, part of the reason, you guessed it, was the ECB not only forbade the families being on tour, but imposed curfews on players.

Professional players are not 12 years old children who need a hug from their parents before they go to sleep, they are adults and should concentrate on the job they are entrusted with, instead of going out for a happy meal the night before the match!

Yesterday Sarfraz was caught yawning on the pitch, and the players body language was lacking intent, what's to say this was not the result of tiredness?

Reality is the entire approach to this world cup was no just unprofessional from the players, but the PCB too!

Meanwhile, Ahmed Shehzad.

Shehzad looks beefed up to score a 100 ball 66 :misbah

If this laxed attitude is true, at this level, in today’s game, it’s not on.

We won’t suddenly start knocking over teams but we’ll maintain our own intensity better. Currently, for large periods of games, we have none.

This guy is embarissing :jk someone please tell him that ability to play cricket is also required in the team.

PCB chairman says no action till after worldcup.

what a shame that our chairman saying such a things. means let them party in UK then he will ask them why you do that.
its all over the news.

What do you want then? To suspend the players and withdraw from WC?

It's professionalism shown the chairman. But yes if no investigation and proper action is taken after WC then it's bad.

There is zero doubt that most of these players have poor work ethics. No wonder, winning or losing does not matter to them at all.

Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza are facing the legal case in Manchester for bringing a kid in Shisha Lounge after Sania Mirza admitted on Twitter.

Popcorn Time :jk...

The sheesha place may also be in trouble. However, I very much doubt the cafe let them bring their little one.

Having dinner with teammates and partners - OK
Smoking - OK

Having unhealthy diet during an ongoing series OR World cup? - BIG NO

Not only the players, the team manager and may be coaches should be punished for this act.

During the tournament, chilling in a shisha lounge is really bad, smoking shisha is equivalent to smoking 20 cigarettes. Also Eid just ended, shouldn't do these haram things, bad on Sania to bring a child to shisha lounge, terrible motherhood.

Lol Ahmed Shezad has posted a gym workout video, the guy has six packs.

What a song to be working out on:jk

Occassional smoking is fine. But what's up with eating junk food a day before the game? lol.. I hope our Indian players are not doing the same.

Is shisha, burgers, pizza, milkshakes and late night jaunts appropriate 'downtime'?? It is dark in the picture at the shisha bar. That means they are sitting there past 10:30pm at the very least.

Show me the picture of Kohli holding a milkshake ever. Let alone during the WC.

Disgusting lack of professionalism.

The smoking bit is a major no-no.

Directly leads to an increased resting heart rate, narrowed blood vessels, and less oxygenated blood.

To be fair, you don't need science to tell you this. It's something most people are aware of since the impact is so significant and noticeable.

Guys, this is not even a debate. Its nothing new. You are a sport celebrity, you have to be at your physical best, case closed.

Was Mohammad Ali eating beef burgers before his fight against George Foreman?

It makes me angry massively when my mate sent me a picture of Mohammed Amir at Wilmslow road having a shake just a day before the test match here at Old Trafford, tickets to which I had bought.

He was crap there, not because of that shake but this is just distraction.

You are abroad to do a job. You have no business being out and about. Crack on with your job and perform to the best of your ability. There will be enough wind down time later on.

This reminds me of the saying by Mohammad Ali:

"I used to hate training but I would always tell myself, work hard and just tolerate this for now, once you win you will be champion forever."
