England will play two additional men’s Twenty20 Internationals to the five T20Is originally planned when they will tour Pakistan in September/October 2022, England and Wales Cricket Board Chief Executive Tom Harrison announced today following his meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ramiz Raja.

The men’s side will then return to Pakistan in November/December at the back of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022 to play three Tests, which will form part of the ICC World Test Championship.

ECB Chief Executive Tom Harrison: “Myself and ECB’s Senior Director Martin Darlow visited Lahore to talk face to face with the PCB around some of the things that have happened over the past few weeks, leading to the cancelation of our tour in October. We also wanted to discuss the future as the two boards have a historic relationship and want to move the agenda towards a forward-looking one as opposed to one looking back.

“We’re happy to announce that we’ll play two extra white-ball T20Is on our men’s tour of Pakistan in September/October 2022. We will then return after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia to complete the Test match element of that tour.

“This is just to reaffirm our commitment to Pakistan cricket to getting England teams, men’s and women’s teams, eventually playing in Pakistan at home.

“I don’t think there’s a cricketer in England who doesn’t want to test their abilities against the huge talent this country has and in the conditions they know best.

“We also talked with our colleagues at the PCB around pathway engagement, how we can support proposals around the women’s game and some interesting ideas around the domestic agenda here in Pakistan.

“We’re going to build on these plans going forward together and we’re excited about that too.”

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja: “The ECB have shown their large heartedness to be here for which I am thankful to Tom and Martin. It means a lot to us.

“We are excited that England have committed to playing two additional T20Is as part of their white-ball tour in September/October in 2022. We put in lot of efforts to make sure that all visiting teams are comfortable in Pakistan. As such, it is a matter of pride for the Pakistan fans, who look forward to welcoming Australia and England in 2022.

“England have got a great team and it’s mind-boggling how they’ve produced so many match-winners in a span of about five to seven years. They play very engaging and attractive cricket, which is fantastic for the fans and a big advertisement of the game.”

I'd rather we invest in national t20 and psl and extend the calender of these tournaments.

And also arrange a high quality domestic 50 over tournament

It will keep the players in shape.

We should stop doing favours and making their boards and clubs money by touring
 
Jeez, I know it's in the run up to a WT20 but could we they not have chucked in some ODIs instead? 7 T20s in one tour is nuts.

That's what the FTP originally listed but I assume they got changed after the schedule got changed up and this series ended up being right before the WT20.
 
I will wait to see this happen.

With the recent accusations from Azeem Rafiq, I guess they are under a lot of pressure with how they treat certain sets of players, though it probably doesn't have anything to do with a tour getting canceled because their players were "fatigued".

The same players were never asked about their intentions to tour.

Laughable.

I do hope Ramiz or Imran ask both of these goons where the fatigue was if these players themselves were never asked.
 
7 T20's? These poor Englishmen might get too fatigued with that many T20's.

This is probably just for show. If anything, they'll send in a team full of Asians to complete the tour.
 
This for me seems like a more realistic prospect than the Australia series.

Actually it makes sense because the series will be held just before the T20 World Cup in Australia. So it should provide both sides with an opportunity to test their bench strength and fringe players.

As far as the players are concerned; Roy, Malan, Moeen Ali, Livingstone, Jordan, Mills, Billings, Banton, Vince, Gregory, Saqib have already been to Pakistan. Buttler expressed an interest in playing in Pakistan "for the first time".

The only person who could have a problem with it Eoin Morgan. But besides him I don't see why England won't send their first team.

You mean you are starving to see the batting of Abid Ali, Imran Butt and Azhar Ali and bowling of Muhammad Abbass & Nauman Ali. Doesnt sound like a mouth watering prospect, does it?
 
Eng/Aus trying to soften pak up before the semis & final so they go easy on them.

In a video shared by the PCB, Raja didn't just thank ECB for confirming the 2022 tour but also expressed his happiness to see his counterpart realising that the pull-out earlier this year was only a knee-jerk reaction.

"I'm thankful to the England Cricket Board (ECB), as it wasn't easy for them. They were under pressure and we became emotional when the pullout took place. Everyone saw how Pakistan made its case, and the result is they came here."

"The only thing is we and the ECB must walk together because it's important for every board to understand each other, their frustrations, meet the expectations. I think the ECB also understood they committed a mistake by withdrawing, and it was a knee-jerk reaction," Raja said in the video.

Actually , in my view ; its the realization of below points by BCCI, ICC, and Big Three :

1) Their ambitious day dream of making stronger associate teams. In a world where there will be 20+ teams competing fiercely has fallen apart or is not going to get realized in at least next 2 decades.
2) This dream shattered by seeing how pathetic the progress of Bangladesh is, and decline in SL and West Indies
3) Cricket world is left with only few consistent competitive teams (and really need Pakistan cricket to be back on track) to make it more interesting

BCCI tried that with Asia cup hosting rights; that trick just fell short of anything serious

Actually, imho, this intense push is because sponsors can not ill afford to oversell how great Bangladesh team is. We all know their minnow level cricket status.. Its just a realization that its really difficult to stand a n associate level team rather than giving a fair chance to teams like Pakistan, SL and West Indies

1. I quite enjoyed Nauman Ali bowl, he's been a good test bowler.
2. In Pakistan our first choice pace attack should be Hassan Ali, Shaheen and Faheem like against SA. They were quite good to watch in that series.
3. A major reason why Test batting doesn't get changed that much is because we play so few tests. Selectors and captain are always saying this isn't the right time etc. and are averse to risks. Also with so few tests public pressure doesn't build up.
4. Yes I'll still enjoy the test series as long as it's closely fought, which in Pakistan it should be otherwise heads will roll.

England’s limited-overs players face the prospect of twiddling their thumbs in Australia for a week later this year should they fail to reach the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup.

Although Eoin Morgan’s men are one of the favourites to lift the trophy in the autumn, their half of the tournament features hosts Australia, who are also defending champions, plus last year’s runners-up New Zealand — and only two teams progress from the Super 12 stage.

England’s final Super 12 fixture is scheduled for November 5, when they will take on the winners of qualifying Group A, most likely Sri Lanka.

But the presence of three Australia v England one-day internationals, starting on November 17, four days after the World Cup final at the MCG, mean that in the event of early elimination those who feature in both T20 and 50-over squads will either be forced to spend some downtime Down Under or potentially dash home for the shortest of breaks in what is an unforgiving 2022-23 calendar.

The white-ball specialists head to Pakistan for seven Twenty20 matches on September 15, just 72 hours after the home international summer concludes against South Africa, and then on to Australia for three further T20s to acclimatise for the World Cup.

Multi-format cricketers are likely to miss the Pakistan series in order to rest — as there is no let-up from the start of the T20 matches until December 22 — and will therefore travel directly to Australia on October 1.

Immediately after the trio of ODIs finish on November 22, England return to Pakistan to play three Tests. In fact, the two assignments will run concurrently, as was the case earlier this year when a T20 squad landed in Barbados with the Ashes still live, and as is due to happen again next February when Test cricket in New Zealand and a warm-up match on the one-day tour of Bangladesh occur just hours apart.

Such saturation has led to a call for action from new Test captain Ben Stokes. ‘The schedule is definitely something that needs looking at. It is ridiculous the amount of cricket people are expected to play. The fact there is a Test match and one-day series overlapping sums it up,’ he said.

‘It really needs looking at from a workload point of view. I don’t want to miss England matches. I want to play as much as I can for England but in an ideal world you would not want to be having discussions about when you want to rest, you would have a schedule that allows you to play everything. Unfortunately, it is not possible.’

The visit of England cricket team to Pakistan was discussed in the meeting

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja is excited to host Pakistan vs England series and stated that the England team will visit Pakistan twice this year and said that English fans and cricket experts want to come to Pakistan to watch thrilling cricket between the two teams.

Christian Turner stated that Cricket is in our blood, and that the game connects the two countries, and the two countries are also celebrating 75 years of friendship

I know that security will be tight but I hope that all of the 7 games won't be in one city and stadium
 
At the moment we only have Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan and Karachi as usable international venues. I'm guessing there will be a couple in Pindi, a couple in Lahore etc

7 just seems too much. Would have preferred them to put an extra test match instead but of course that was never going to happen.
 
I hope it is a full-strength England side.

The big teams don’t take Pakistan seriously and play their bench players. Then when Pakistan takes advantage and wins a few games, they act as if they have a played a blinder.

Hopefully we will see England’s best XI. 6-1 or 5-2 to England.

Another perfect example of a cricket board totally ignoring their fan base.

Here on this forum, there are post after post in several threads where it is said test is best, tests are the premier format. That is want the fans here want.

Yet here we have 7 T20's. No tests. Which leads me to one of two conclusions.

1. PCB does not care about it's fan base and will do what it wants.

2. The test fans percentage is so low that they are insignificant to the PCB.

What is the reality?

They will play Test series later.

But yes, PCB does listen to the fans. The majority do not care about Test cricket and for good reason. It is ridiculously long for the average fan to be invested, and the pathetic Pakistani pitches makes it worse.

PCB is going to make a lot of money from the 7 match T20I series. We will get packed stadiums in all matches, England is super exciting team to watch and the fans will turn up in numbers even if Pakistan get hammered.

Tend to think it's #2. We are in an echo chamber here on this forum, many like-minded Test lovers.

Unfortunately, this is not the mindset of the average fan. PCB make these decisions based on the gate receipts, viewership numbers, sponsors etc. You can guarantee each and every one of these 7 matches will be full to the brim with a raucous crowd and the MT here will have several pages per innings.

As I said, unfortunately (for me and many here) this is just the way cricket is going.
 
Think it's kind of really odd to have a 7 match t20I series. But it's coz of the compensation of the last time Poms backed out after NZ blunder last year. Plus a t20wc will be around the corner as well so, why not?

Both boards will collaborate together to discuss various issues including the tour schedule and security arrangements throughout the series. It is expected that the tour is set to kick off on September 15.

England will come head-to-head against Pakistan in a 7-match T20I series; initially, five T20Is were scheduled but former ECB Chief Executive Tom Harrison announced the addition of two more T20Is to make up for cancelling Pakistan's tour last year.

The England team will travel to Pakistan again following the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup to play a 3-match Test series later this year.

England is likely to play seven T20Is against Pakistan from September 15 to October 2 in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan, sources claimed.

According to the sources, Karachi is not in the plans to host England which is coming to Pakistan after 17 years. Following the successful ODI series against West Indies, Multan is likely to host England this year alongside Rawalpindi and Lahore.

Reminds me of 7-match ODI series from the past.

I think 7-match T20 series is too much. 5 is good enough.
 
Pakistan Cricket Board and the England and Wales Cricket Board have formed a special committee to work out the details of the England cricket team's impending visit of Pakistan.

Throughout the series, both boards will work to address a variety of matters, including the tour itinerary and security preparations.

According to the schedule, the tour is planned to begin on September 15th this year.

Meanwhile, the England cricket team will play three Test matches and seven Twenty20 International matches against Pakistan.

The Test matches will be part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship.

"The inspection team will visit Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan to witness the cricket facilities and to meet relevant security and administrative officials"

"More than one option is indeed being discussed but a final schedule will be out only after the inspection team completes the visit and shares the report"

It's about as many games as a worldcup.

Hope pakistan atleast announce a big squad so that many players get chances.

This team has now arrived in Pakistan as per sources.
 
ECB security team has concluded their visit to Pakistan and will submit their report to the ECB.

As per sources, they have termed security arrangements in Pakistan as “satisfactory”

The four-member ECB team comprising Richard Snowball, Robert Lynch, John Carr and Reg Dickason arrived in the country on July 17 and also met with the security officials to review and assess the security preparations made for the England team’s tour to Pakistan later this year.

England's security team, including Pakistan Cricket Board officials, this Thursday visited the National High-Performance Center (NHPC) and the Safe City Project.

The team also visited the routes which would be adopted for the team’s travel to and from the stadium to the hotel. The England security team also met the top officials of the Punjab Police and security forces.

A briefing was given to the security team regarding the security situation and arrangements in the Safe City project.

The team was briefed about the arrangements of the police force regarding airport and stadium routes, hotels, and parking.

The delegation was also shown videos of the security provided to the teams visiting Pakistan.

Information on the use of modern technology and the cooperation of law enforcement agencies were also shared. The four-member delegation also reviewed the facilities at the NHPC Lahore.

This tour would go ahead with all of English top/frontline players playing. These reports and all these are just formalities.
Australian Cricket team's visit has removed every obstacle in future tours to Pakistan.
Rob Key, MD of English Cricket, was also in the Commentary team during Australian Visit. He is having firsthand experience of the Security Arrangements in Pakistan.
These meetings and all that are only formalities and scheduling of venues & fixtures.
 
British Acting High Commissioner, Andrew Dalgleish was optimistic on the long-awaited tour of the England cricket team to Pakistan and hoped that English cricketers would be very excited to come here.

“I hope they (England cricket team) will come and I’m confident that they will the very excited about going back to Pakistan,” he said in an exclusive talk with APP.

Andrew said we have got to sort-out the details about that (tour) but I’m remaining very optimistic. “Will they (England) beat the Pakistani team yes, but I’m not prepared to comment on it,” he said.
 
England will play seven T20Is from 20 September to 2 October in Karachi and Lahore in what will be their first visit of the country in 17 years, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced today.

The National Stadium will host the matches on 20, 22, 23 and 25 September, before the action will shift to the cricket headquarters at the Gaddafi Stadium where the remaining three matches will be played on 28 and 30 September and 2 October. All matches will start at 1930 PKT.

The seven T20Is will be part of the first leg of England’s tour of Pakistan and they will return after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022 for three Tests in December.

The T20I series against the second-ranked side will launch Pakistan’s bumper international season. Following the September and December matches against England, Pakistan will host New Zealand twice – first for two Tests and three ODIs in December/January and then in April for five ODIs and five T20Is – West Indies for three T20Is in late January and finally the 50-over ACC Asia Cup.

Complete schedule of England Test series as well as New Zealand and the West Indies series will be announced in due course.

Apart from five Tests, eight ODIs and 15 T20Is in the 2022-23 season, Pakistan will also stage 187 men’s domestic matches in six senior competitions, 33 HBL Pakistan Super League 2023 fixtures and 19 Pakistan Junior League 2022 games.

Pakistan are certainly going to have plenty of T20 practice and more than enough games to finally figure out the squad & lineup. Asia Cup + England 7 T20's + NZ/Bangladesh Tri-series. This should be a well prepared team.

That series with Australia means it's highly unlikely that the English team will back out from the tour again this time but yeah you can't be certain untill the 1st ball is bowled especially when the series is in Pakistan.
 
ISLAMABAD (APP) - British High Commission (BHC) Deputy Head of Communication Tom de Fonblanque was thrilled to see the long-awaited England tour to Pakistan, taking place in September-October, this year.

"I’m absolutely thrilled, it’s been such a long time but we will win. Pakistan’s been waiting for 17 years, it’s time for some practice and play some cricket," he said in a video message received here.

England was set to tour Pakistan for a seven-match T20I series ahead of the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2022. For the first time in 17 years, England was set to visit Pakistan to play a seven-match T20I series in September-October 2022.

The series would kick off on September 20 in Karachi, where the two sides will play the first four games before the action heads to Lahore for the last three T20Is.

The limited-overs series would be vital to both sides for their preparation ahead of this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in October-November.

England and Pakistan were the second and third-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings currently and are also among the favourites for the marquee event later this year in Australia.

Meanwhile, earlier in an exclusive talk with APP, British Acting High Commissioner, Andrew Dalgleish said he was optimistic on the long-awaited tour of the England cricket team to Pakistan and hoped that English cricketers would be very excited to come here.

"I hope they (England cricket team) will come and I’m confident that they will the very excited about going back to Pakistan."

"Will they (England) beat the Pakistani team yes, but I’m not prepared to comment on it," he said.

The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced that gate earnings from the first T20I against England will be donated to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund 2022. The match will be played on 20 September at the National Stadium in Karachi and will begin at 7.30pm (local time).

The PCB has urged cricket fans and followers to purchase tickets in big numbers once they are made available online for sale next week to show unity with all those affected by the calamity, help with rehabilitation of the affected population and support the local and federal governments in their relief and rescue operations.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja: “We at the PCB express our grief and sorrow for all those affected by the extreme monsoon rainfall and floods, which has resulted in havoc and devastation beyond imagination, killing over 1,000 and leaving around a million homeless. As cricket unites our proud nation, we stand firmly with the victims and all those involved in the flood relief and rescue operations.

“As a responsible and caring organisation, the PCB has always stood with its fans and public in tough, challenging and testing times. In this regard, we have decided to donate gate proceeds from the first T20I against England next month to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.

“I encourage all spectators to participate in this initiative by purchasing tickets for the first T20I and turning up in big numbers so that we as a cricket family can donate a substantial amount to the fund and show solidarity with those affected by the catastrophe.

England will play seven T20Is on their first tour of Pakistan in 17 years. Karachi will stage matches on 20, 22, 23 and 25 September, while Lahore will be the venue for the remaining three matches on 28 and 30 September, and 2 October. England will return in late November for three Tests, which will be played in Rawalpindi (1-5 December), Multan (9-13 December) and Karachi (17-21 December).

England have reportedly decided to drop opener Jason Roy for the upcoming tour of Pakistan and the T20 World Cup following his recent struggles for form.

Roy has been ever present in England's white-ball revolution under former captain Eoin Morgan, but has endured a horrid recent run with the bat. And according to a report from the Telegraph , Roy is set to 'pay the price for a dreadful personal summer' when England announce their squad for the series in Pakistan on Friday.

The opener managed just 76 runs from 98 balls in six T20Is for England this summer and has failed to find any real fluency in The Hundred. Roy has scored just 51 runs in six innings for the Oval Invincibles, a run that has included three ducks and seen him score at a strike rate of 100.

He also missed the Invincibles' last two games with a back issue. White-ball coach Matthew Mott hinted last month that Roy's place in the side was under threat, stating: "You get some currency from having delivered on the big stage - but at certain times, hard decisions need to be made."

The report also states that Roy's case has 'been damaged by several contenders to bat in England's top three enjoying outstanding campaigns in the Hundred'. Dawid Malan is currently the leading run scorer, with 358 runs at an average of 59.66 and a strike rate of 172.11.

Fringe player Phil Salt is the second leading run scorer with 313 runs at an average of 44.71 and a strike rate of 154.18, enjoying a prolific opening partnership with England captain Jos Buttler for the Manchester Originals.

Roy's Invincibles opening partner Will Jacks has also enjoyed a strong tournament, smashing 261 runs at an average of 43.50 and a strike rate of 171.71 which included a stunning century against the Southern Brave.

Moeen Ali is set to lead England when they face Pakistan after Buttler was ruled out of The Hundred with a calf problem. He has stated that he is hoping to feature during the "back end" of the seven game T20I series in order to ensure he is ready for the World Cup.

England are also expected to be without Test stars Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow in Pakistan, with the squad set to arrive just two days after final Test against South Africa is scheduled to finish.

I pointed this out earlier too,

Morgan retired prematurely because as the white ball captain he would need to have a serious excuse this time to avoid the Pakistan tour!

I was proven right. These guys will do anything in their power to not have to tour Pakistan!
