[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Imad Wasim taking a smoke break in between match

I suppose this is perhaps why Babar didn't pick him.
He had fitness issues and clearly, doesn't take the game so seriously.

He's still a fantastic player, but so silly for doing this

That picture doesn't look like he is smoking; maybe he's using an inhaler for some issues.
I don't think he's foolish enough to smoke in the dugout while sitting next to the team in front of cameras.

A player who is fighting to make his way back into the team, leaves the field with an injury and instead of getting treatment, he’s smoking a cigarette.

Ridiculous stuff.

why hunain shah is shoved down our throat, a midget running with no purpose and where is ubaid better of the bros ?
wrong post

I have been a staunch supporter of him back in the team and think it’s ridiculous he was dropped.

On the religion side it’s bad. But that’s his choice.

However it sets a terrible example with fitness. And he couldn’t even be bothered to do it outside the dressing room. Shows his professionalism and attitude.

Still want him back in the side. Just disappointed. Look how good the western fielders were from IU. Can only dream of the day we actually field a side for Pakistan who are actual athletes, who will take their sport seriously enough to make sure they are in prime fitness.

Power puffs! If this is what it takes for him to perform then no issue

I hope it's saada wala cigarette. PCB should send him for a dope test immediately.

Camera didn't catch him, he ensured camera catches him. He was watching it on the TV in dressing room yet he went ahead and smoked. He wanted it to be talked about.
I felt the same. First he hesitated then decided to take a puff to look tough

Things so bad for Pakistan cricket at the moment that even if Imad was sitting with a huqqa (hubble bubble/shisha) in the dressing room & winning games, I would be fine with that!

King behaviour from Imad

Destroys Multan and unwinds with his favourite pack of Marlboros. Class and charisma personified

No class in that but then not a big issue also.

There is a reason why smoking adverts are banned in such settings.

Cameras caught him smoking something (i think its a cig and not something else) in the dressing room. He left the field for this.

Is this allowed?

This bad, really bad, no where in the world players are allowed to smoke in dressing room , only in Pakistan . Also , I used to think he was a smart guy but this is dumb stuff by him. Still as a cricketer I like him, although it might change after this harkat.

It's quite revealing that he deems smoking during a live broadcast, likely to be watched by millions, acceptable. Simply adhering to common social norms was all that was required of him. Is that too much to expect?

If he really couldn't control the urge, he could have simply stepped inside the dressing room where there were no cameras and smoked to his heart's content. Doing it through a window is very weird.

Can I question his seriousness and commitment to the team, or will his handful of 'fans' vehemently defend this abhorrent behavior?

He didn’t even wait till the match is finished. Good chance he’s got to bat.

Just disappointing really. He shouldn’t be doing it inside and where he could be seen on tv where kids are watching. It shouldn’t be used to stop him coming back to the team which he should.

He definitely did it I saw it live. Wouldn’t have believed it otherwise.

Who cares? Like respectfully, why is this a major issue
I don't care from his personal perspective.

If he can smoke and still maintain his fitness and skills then more power to him. I'm a former smoker myself and it's a great way to unwind if you are able to control it.

I have an issue with smoking in a sporting dressing room. It makes the whole operation look unprofessional. Smoking is banned indoors in most countries in even bars and clubs. To allow smoking in a sporting dressing room is a bit cavalier and sends out the wrong message.

I dislike Imad as much as the next guy but c'mon, not everything that you do can be in the context of how it would impact the millions of viewers.

Everyone knows Imad is a smoker and if he wanted a quick one at the time so be it. It wasn't the best thing to do but my point is that you can't always think and you won't always think about the millions watching you before you do something.

I know from experience that most smokers seek relief from stress during tense situations. Imad was playing in the final and perhaps he felt the need for a puff to relax and calm himself.

Babar and fitness? LOL.

This thread looks a desperate attempt to divert attention from phenomenal performance of Imad in the playoffs.

Imad listening to chants of “Maddy, Maddy” whilst having a puff

Firstly, considering this is the final of Pakistan's premier sports league, I expect players to recognize the influence they hold in such a momentous occasion. Smoking, already a prevalent issue among Pakistanis globally, becomes even more concerning when an athlete indulges mid-game without regard for the message it sends. With a significant number of teenagers and children watching cricket, it's irresponsible to showcase behaviors that could potentially influence them negatively. The implications of such actions on impressionable minds are evident. I can't see how you can argue against that.

Secondly, his disregard for the team's welfare is evident, especially knowing he still has a pivotal role in the second innings. A little bit more dedication would go a long way.

The list would be extensive if I were to enumerate all the reasons why Imad's actions were inappropriate.

bro i accept imad should take retirement back and be in the Pakistan squad for T20.

But this cigarette act is poor from him.

He could had a sneaky fag in the dressing room but he chose not to. Sachin Tendulkar turned down millions not to promote alcohol( and saved countless lives and families) and Imad promoted cigarettes for free.

Cut him some slack bro

He clearly said he is struggling with his mental health. He’s not had a great last few years with the politics outside of the field. He’s at that point in his life where he probably doesn’t care too much.

Hungama kyun hai barpa
Thodi si jo pee lee (cigarette) hai?

Daaka tou nahi daala
Chori tou nahi kee hai

In Pakistan you can smoke anywhere and people don't really mind

Should stop the pointless discussion about his recall. Such players with no fitness and even smoking during a game should never play for Pak.

I have absolutely loved Imad for the way he has performed in Psl 9, but smoking during the game is simply not allowed. I would ban him for at least two games for this mistake.

Either we all are blind or your taking the mick.

Can you have mental health issues and still perforn in the semi final and final ?

Whilst he won Islambad the Semi Final and Final him smoking whilst playing a final in the balcony/changing room is unacceptable and should be banned for a few games and fined.

Good question. A sport’s psychologist is better equipped to answer this.

I think it is possible. Sometimes you are in that zone where you have nothing to lose from a psychological pov. The pressure is basically off. Nothing really phases you, you’ve seen the worst, you’ve experienced the worst.

More from a psychological trauma pov, there have been players who have dealt with grief and performed brilliantly the next day for their country/team

It’s a beautiful sport. It can give you the happiest days of your life when you are at the lowest point sometime.

He could have used a nicotine patch, the match is only a few hours. Pakistanis generally are not self aware enough to consider optics.

he is a sports star and alot of people look up to him.

No matter who the player is, i will never accept such behavior

Poor from imad. He is a professional player so how can he smoke during the matches?
Tbh great performance by him . Deserve to to play Wt20 for Pakistan .

Spot on. A good example of a sporting genius who suffered from depression was Thierry Henry. I've tagged you in on a link of his interview (in case you haven't seen it) in the Arsenal thread.

This act of his could lead to repercussions on all cricketers, depending on what report the match referee makes and if ICC stakeholders were watching this.

A big issue in cricket has been taking subs when not required. Imad took one for a cig break which isnt allowed, you can go off the field if you have an injury or have to use the bathroom.

Cherz bro. I’ll watch this. Looks fascinating

One could never imagine that a guy even on top of the world could be battling depression behind the scenes.

A sportsman smoking and having shisha is one of the most pathetic things they can do to their body.

Anyways, if he wanted to indulge in it, maybe not infront of the cameras atleast.

Who cares if he takes a smoke? Why is the camera man even taking a sneak peak at the dugout?

Leave imad alone for God sakes. Dude has won you 3 games in a row and still people are ungrateful

because a sportsman should not be seen smoking.

The fact that he was smoking indoors, made it look even more bad. Smoking is bad for health and a final where many kids are watching and glorify these guys and look up to them, you dont want kids to pick up these bad habits that can shortern your life expectancy.

The guy can smoke Weed all day long for all I care as long as he performs with bat and ball.

I remember seeing a video of Wasim Akram in the dressing room smoking on TV, half an hour later he comes on to the field and gets a hat trick and a quick 4 wickets to wrap up the innings against Sri Lanka in 1999.

Well we don't want him to fail a drugs test do we now?

Was a funny moment. I think it was Waqar on commentary when they flashed over to Imad Wasim and he said something like “there is Imad resting after his great performance” and then when Imad pulled the cigarette out Waqar said “oops” and went silent

I'm big advocate of Imad but if he was smoking in the dug out, next to players and coaches then that really is unacceptable.

Not only are you doing harm to yourself, but you're harming others around you through passive smoke and setting an extremely poor example to youngsters watching the game...

In this day and age smoking like this is just inexcusable and could be a glimpse as to why he wasn't selected for Pakistan in recent times.

He's retired.

I doubt he cares what anyone thinks considering he was dominating while doing so. If Azam Khan is allowed to be on the team then this is minor stuff at the PSL level.

Brother being a celebrity doesn't mean he can't do certain things.

Smoking is bad, but if you want this to stop then actually contribute and force companies to shut down and ban access to cigarettes like many advertising companies try to do.

The argument goes both ways, shpuld we ban the cricketer who's smoking but lay the companies actually manufacturing them and having them publicly available for a profit off the hook?

This is not good behavior at all. He can smoke outside the game every day but to do it during a match, in front of a packed house and cameras are pointing at you every minute because you have taken a fifer, he should have not done that. Imad has attitude problems and this is one of the prime examples.

Imad Wasim rolled up Multan Sultans into a blunt and smoked them.

But I agree with OP, in that smoking should not be normalized. Even Islamically, it’s an intoxicant, and should be kept far away. Esp as a sportsman who is a role model to children.

All folks who have issue with this can set up their own namaazi, parhezgaar, tamizdaar, rozaydaar cricket team.

Just leave the tactician alone man!

I can't believe people are supporting this. Yes whatever he's a smoker big deal. But to do it DURING the match? Cut your biases aside. I like the guy. He should've been a regular member of the national team for the last 3 years. But this is unprofessional

Sure but not during a match what the heck.

If babar did this fans would rush to defend him and if rizwan did this, fans would rush to explain how it is religiously correct or whatever.

I'm guessing he was fasting all day and obviously the cigarette cravings would be strong. So can forgive him.

An apology with a health advisory message for impressionable minds will give positive message more than hundred advertisement on media ..
