I'm a little worried about the batting but as always there is plenty of exciting talent to look forward to.

Ridiculous decision by them to let go Misbah and then pick Ian Bell.

Atleast the former had knowledge of what the opponent would be upto. Plus, Misbah could had helped them in getting some good picks in the PSL which he has always done.

Lets see whos going to be the captain.

This team just shot itself in the foot. THey have no idea who to make captain now because even Duminy left them at the last minute :)))

Well deserve. Gonna enjoy watching this team crumble

Oh no Zafar Gowhar will be warming the bench again, with Samit Patel in the line up Gowhar won't get a game.

Really happy that nasir nawaz got picked he is the future of pakistan when he hits it stays hit

I almost feel like you are being sarcastic here.

Islu have been the most professional team throughout PSL. People were of the view this was because of Misbah but it is now clear it was in spite of him. They did very well to push him out as a player after his poor performance. He was a bad t20 batsman when he was removed from the International team and right now he is just terrible. Given his good defence and shots against spinners, he might still play the odd okay innings, but his performance last season is an accurate representation of where we stand.

If you are being serious, I can guarantee IU will do better than Peshawar who have picked an awful squad this time around.

The good squad as usual. They retained the core and now with the addition of Bell. It will provide stability in the middle-order. ISD backing the locals to take responsibility with the ball

I agree Misbah is a huge loss but I believe Ian Bell is a better replacement in terms of batting. Of course Bell is nowhere near the level of Misbah when it comes to captaincy and bringing a calming influence but Bell isn't a bad pick. He's been in magnificent form in T20s this year and he will be the rock of this team.

I can't see any Pakistani leading this side manfully. The only choice is Luke Ronchi and he will command respect in the dressing room given his exploits last year. The big miss is Andre Russell. He was the enforcer both with bat and ball.

At the end of the day if the batters are all in form, ISB will go far. However if Ronchi fails to provide those blazing starts, they can crumble. Which is why Ian Bell is a smart pick here.

Bell or Misbah, was pretty much the same thing.

I really hate what this team did, but to be honest, we all know this team is going to the finals.

Question is, whether the captaincy will come back to bite them or not.

If Shadab asked team mangement to pick Nasir Nawaz then I have to say that Shadab really did a great job.

But im still hurt, this team should have had Misbah there. Asif Ali, Faheem, Shadab, these were the picks of Misbah.

Team:

Luke Ronchi
Nasir Nawaz
Ian Bell
Hussain Talat
Cameron Delport
Asif Ali
Faheem Ashraf
Shadab Khan
Samit Patel
Mohammed Sami
Rumman Raees

It would definitely be weird to not see Misbah leading the red brigade in the PSL but it's a tough decision that ISB has made and let's see if it ends up being the right one or not. I'm from KHI and should technically be supporting KHI but I have been rooting for ISB in all the 3 seasons so far because of Misbah and the professionalism of this franchise.

I'm not sure if Nasir Nawaz will get to play much. Can't see a vacant place for him in this team. Could get a chance in place of Delport but unlikely I think.

Bowling looks strong, but batting isn't great.

I'm sure Ronchi is going to fail this time because he hasn't been playing much and he also flopped in the afghan league.

Asif as we know is way hit and miss, whilst Talat has been decent and Nasir is a rookie, hence can't say much about him.

Good team on paper, but without Misbah's brains, ISLU isn't winning this tournament.

Mark my words.

Bell or Misbah, was pretty much the same thing.

In the last 3 years :

Bell v Misbah
47 innings v 23 innings
1551 runs v 464 Runs
Average 37.82 v 27.29
Strike rate 130.66 v 105.45
50s 12 v 1
100s 1 v 0

In what way are they anywhere close to being the same thing?

I am sure Misbah will struggle to even put bat on ball against fast bowlers, if he gets the chance to bat in this PSL. He was struggling in BPL and that was almost 2 years ago. Islamabad kept him on the bench mostly in last season.

Nasir Nawaz
Sahibzada Farhan
Luke Ronchi
Hussain Talat
Ian Bell
Asif Ali
Shadab Khan
Fahim Ashraf
Zafar Gohar
Wayne Parnell
Samit Patel

Ian Bell isn't the most convincing selection but I have always liked him as a player. Plenty of power in the batting so not worried about scoring big. Zafar and Shadab will do well in UAE conditions. But worried about our seam bowling opitions. Parnell hasn't improved much over the years. Maybe time to groom Amad Butt.

A little thin on the bowling. Need Waqas Masood and/or ammad butt to come good. Maybe an experinced spinner might have been good to have around.

Ruman will be the captain just like last time.

Major dude supports Misbah through thick and thin so he is serious.

I feel Islamabad will win the PSL again. They have kicked out dead weight Misbah with his slow batting, and t20 is more about the players, not the captaincy, especially bowling, and this team is stacked.

Shadab
Sami
Ashraf
and Raees are in the top 10 t20 bowlers in Pakistan.
Gohar is very decent as well.

Ronchi and Patel are clutch players and will travel to Pakistan.

I support Lahore but Islamabad is the strongest bowling side in the competition, it is basically Pakistan's ranked no 1 bowling side minus Imad but with better batting in the form of Ronchi, and Patel.

Ian Bell a very surprisiisng pick, perhaps he has been great lately for his county side, and he always looked like a stable batsman, so an upgraded Misbah. United are confident of setting low totals so they do not want flashy and risky batsmen it seems.

How are you worried about seam options?

Faheem, Raees, and Sami are top 10 bowlers in t20.

Strong squad and they've retained the nucleus of last year's squad.

I'm not sure about Rumman's fitness though, he's not played any cricket for several months.

My fav team along with Quetta now that grandpa is gone.

Only team which has a thing for youngsters and lot of this has to do with their managers.

Rizwan Hussain with a fifty in the National T20 Cup, this is also his T20 debut. Looks decent.

Really impressed by their selection of Rizwan Hussain.

Should have picked Zeeshan Malik too for Sahibzada Farhan but i guess the hype of Farhan after scoring on phattas got the better of them.

Otherwise strong squad focusing on youngsters.

Islamabadis have always been intelligent and encouraging towards youngsters.

Only squad where local young talent is the spotlight.

True, although QG have made some impressive selections (Ahsan, Danish, Saud, Naseem, Ghulam Mudassar) this year. If QG actually pick their best XI will be great to see IU and QG head to head.

Yep Quetta has picked some youngsters too but yet to be seen if they include them regularly in playing X1.

The best part about IU is that they picked exciting talents Nasir Nawaz and Muhammad Musa as their emerging players and atleast one of them is guaranteed to play all matches. Knowing IU they won't be shy in playing both. They do seem to have the best support staff and best eye for talent. Just ignore their captaincy picks :yk

I hope both Nawaz and Musa have spectacular tournaments and somehow find a spot in the ODI team against Aus.

Rizwan Hussain will play instead of Nawaz imo.

Can't all three of them start in the playing 11? I mean Rizwan is in supplementary catagory, so what do the rules say about the situation?

They can start with all three but I am sure that they will play just one of them, at least for first few matches. Pakistanis love oldies.

Nothing stopping them. Supplementary players can play any time.

Yes I get that. But where would the owners put him in on the balance sheet? If they give him the salary of an emerging player then surely he can’t feature alongside Musa and Nawaz in the same 11?

He is indeed in the emerging category.

I don't think there's any stipulations regarding categories, besides a maximum of four overseas players.

Islamabad United showing their batting strength once again. Such a versatile batting line-up - today Samit Patel and Shadab Khan would have batted at number 8 & 9 if required.

Really want to see what Nasir Nawaz is made of. One player I'm really waiting to see and hopefully IU can somehow fit both Nawaz and Rizwan in the team.

Dean Jones is a T20 maestro.

Surprised he hasn't got coaching gigs in other leagues.

Cracking start this to the tournament - looking the part IU

Nasir Nawaz and Musa Khan ere most probably SHadab's picks not Dean Jones

Clinical because they have the right combo.

And the right type of players, not some mediocre accumulators like Malik, Sarfraz, Shan Masood, Shehzad, other low quality stuff in the PSL.

As long as they keep Malik/Sarfraz/ShanMasood/Shehzad out, they will be having success.

Right to invest in Talat, Asif, Faheem, of course. And Ronchi, Sharjeel everyone knows about.

Look at the mess they have created in the middle order.

Hope they lose this match aswell

Talat should bat at #3 and they need to bring in Bell for Delport at #4.

it was a good move today to bring in shadab at one down.

What Tanvir did was just pure luck

According to IU, Bell has a foot injury. This is why he hasn't played yet

Zalmi might win the tournament this time. Or reach the final.

ISLU won't get much success.
