Pakistan’s young batsman targets ACC U19 Asia Cup’s trophy

Pakistan U19 team’s middle-order batsman Mohammad Haris believes that the junior team will clinch strong results in the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup, slated to start from September 5 in Sri Lanka.

“The same team is playing for the last five to six months so combination in the team is quite strong. We are prepared well to take up the challenge,” Haris said while talking to the media at National Stadium Karachi (NSK).

The young batting sensation knows the importance of an event like Asia Cup where all teams come with full preparation. “I know the difference between a series and tournament. You need to play with a positive mindset to win big tournaments,” he said.

Hailed from Peshawar, Haris is confident to give his hundred percent with the bat in the mega event. The young batsman contributed 265 runs in Pakistan’s splendid 7-0 victory over South Africa at their backyard.

“I have tried to overcome my weakness and keep on improving my skills. My last series against South Africa gave me immense confidence and I am looking forward to utilise that exposure in the upcoming event,” he said.

The 18-years-old cricketer admires England’s wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler for his aggressive approach with the bat and behind stumps. “Being a wicket-keeper batsman I follow Buttler. I like his aggressive approach,” he maintained.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan will play their first match against Afghanistan on September 5. Their match against arch-rivals India is scheduled on September 7.

Can’t wait for him to be drafted into Pakistan and made to bat at 6/7 and expected to average 50 while having to go at a strike rate of 200 because the dinosaurs before him were batting before him were going at strike rates of 70.
 
The reports says he's a wicket keeper if so then he's a much better prospect then rohail

Yes he is WK batsman but can't keep because of Rohail Nazir. We need to watch out for him

Saw his interview on PCB channel like his attitude and looks fit as well hopefully he performs can get a call up with the national side
 
Hopefully he's more sharper mentally than he is "aggressive." Gotta invest in high IQ players. Have had enough of the dumb ones.
 
He does not look 19 ..... more like 21/22 year old .... with a huge beard

A beard makes you look older. These days it's a lot more difficult to fake your age due to bone testing.
 
i wish they do bone testing of every player who enters cricket to prove his age ..... but unfortunately it is known PCB does not do bone testing ..... i wish they do...
 

Looks like he was keeping wickets today instead of Rohail. Unless they switched shirts...

Bone testing is there but you can still subtract a year or two if you know the right people, a former U19 from last batch is my cousin and he is overage by an year and half.

Number 6 or 7 is more suited for Haris in ODI's. The opening might be a gamble today let's hope he can make a mark.
 
He played with some good aggression in the Pakistan Cup final today. He took on Sohail Khan who was bowling well. He did drop an catch as wicketkeeper, though. He should have probably allowed the slips to catch it.

Finally, Haris hits a big one in the T20 Cup against Lahore. He looked at his best, hitting 52 (29).

805 runs with 5 fifties
82 fours & 41 sixes
26 average, 158 strike rate

No Pakistani batsman have ever scored more T20 runs at a better strike rate in a calendar year.
 
He only knows one way and he backs his style. Instead of tuning him into something Pakistan should use his fearless batting as an advantage.

Over the years he will learn and evolve on its own. No need to ask him to play a new role.

He should either open for Pakistan or come in at no. 6 or 7 to finish the game.
 
Haris is very good but the problem is he is yet to make his mark in important international crunch games. Haven't seen him performing there.
 
By no means he is a top-order batter. He can bat lower down the order and can finish the innings but as of yet he has been tried in top order and never though to be made a finisher instead which he can be.

His game is one way and he should be backed to play that. Players like him take time in their careers to score consistent big runs. He should either open or finish the game. His unorthodox shots are actually an advantage in death overs.

I will put him in the lower middle order to finish the games. He does not need too many balls to settle down. He can just come and bash the bowlers right from ball 1. Opening with him will put extra pressure as he will not be staying on the crease for long and you cannot take a risk with such a batter who just needs a few balls to make an impact and cannot stay on the crease when needed.

It's a double edged sword. One one hand he could give starts even on the most difficult of pitches which none could predict.

It depends more so on the composition of the XI. If you have two reliable and consistent batters at an opening position and no. 3 than you can afford such sword.

In the match against Lahore Blues in the National T20 Cup 2023, Mohammed Haris made 55 (31). He is not just an entertainer but can also play the game seriously.

Look at the boundary count. 50 score out of 55 was scored in boundaries. Fabulous stuff.

He's the definition of an X Factor player. I don't know about the team and the fans. But players like Fakhar and him would be in my team first up. It would be my responsibility to use them most effectively for my team.
 
Needs to be backed to open for Pakistan in particular T20. Some people are saying he should be slotted at 6 or 7, but I would disagree he can give you great start by opening and can use the powerplay to his advantage

He should only be batting in the opening slot were he can play freely.
 
Why did Harris bat lower down in the order? Has he been told he won’t be opening in the NZ series?

Tbh sometimes you’ve got to toss random domestic performances out of the window.

This kid showed a lot in the t20 wc and sometimes some people only perform on the big occasions. I’ll take him in the team and tell him to just play as he sees it

He could only have played in the President's Cup if it was in the T20 format. He cant survice in 50 over games.

Honestly, the quality in Pak FC cricket is so pathetic, it would be better if he could get a contract in County cricket (even if it's 2nd division) it would be great for his career.

I think he actually has a lot of potential, just needs to work on his temprament

If people don't have an issue with me claiming Travis head and Warner are the gilchrist and hayden of our era, they shouldn't have a problem with me claiming Babar and rizwan are the shehzad and misbah of this era and do not deserve opening.

I don't think he will be part of the 15 men squad. Unless Azam and Rizwan are out of picture because of long-term injuries.

Visas are applied for more than 15 players in advance.
 
Could be in reserves if he's applied for visa.

Pakistan have been secretive about the squad. Looks like injuries to Rizwan etc. are taking more time to heal and PAK are unsure of their squad, yet.

He will be selected on the basis of social media pressure, which is frankly stupid to say the least and doesn't happen anywhere else.

Has zero performances of note recently. Just being picked on the basis of a tournament 1.5 years ago, and some fans' hatred of Rizwan and Azam:sarf2
 
30 players have gotten their visas approved for the WT20, and unless he’s in the squad for the England tour I can’t see him being picked.

He has been strategically sidelined to make way for the fat guy.

He didnt help himself anyway by having an ordinary PSL, but he has been shaken. I would be too.

Don’t think Azam Khan coming into the team had him sidelined, even Haseebullah has been preferred over Haris.

Something has happened behind the scenes between Haris and Wahab, and unless Wahab gets sacked, I can’t see Haris coming back into the team.

Wahab even had Haris BPL NOC revoked under the pretext Haris had already exceeded the two T-20 leagues allowance allowed by the PCB and there was no domestic cricket going on in Pakistan at the time.

Came to bat at down position today in his 2nd game of LPL 2024 playing for Colombo Strikers against Kandy Falcons. How many runs is he going to score today. Let's see.
