[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Mohammad Wasim (KPK) Pacer: First Impressions

Reminder of what Abdul Razzaq said about Wasim:

PakPassion.net: What are your thoughts on the talent and expectations from Mohammad Wasim Jr.?

Abdul Razzaq: A few months ago, I had stated that Mohammad Wasim Jr. was the fastest bowler in domestic cricket, but he was young then and needed some time to grow. We helped in his development and gave him maximum chances in games so he could gain confidence, so much so that we even played him in the final of the Pakistan Cup in 2020. He performed well in it and based on that he was selected for the PSL and then went on to be picked for the Pakistan white ball squad for the tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe. It just goes to show that when given the right environment to grow in, players like Mohammad Wasim Jr. automatically improve and do justice to their talent.

Shadab Khan on Wasim at end of the 1st game in Abu Dhabi vs LQ:

Mohammad Wasim is a very impressive bowler and he performs even under pressure and in the death overs. It’s a great sign for us and for Pakistan cricket that an emerging guy is performing like this.

Troubled Faf and then got his wicket.

Wasim's 2nd wicket:

He looking impressive in each and every game, fine fine prospect for Pakistan. Another youngster to look forward in the future.

he is exposing the cricketers weaknesses as well with his good wicket to wicket bowling.

I was expecting him to get a chance in the Zim series, but i shouldnt have expected when Misbah is incharge..

Even after a good PSL 6 Misbah will still play Faheem above him..

He is a better prospect than Faheem especially in the LOI so far..

Much better than some rubbish cricketers that have represented Pakistan recently

I want to see some more variety in his bowling ie out swing. With time his one dimensional inswing wicket to wicket bowling will not be enough

A really poor outing for Wasim today. 1/52 from his 4 overs.

On a bit of a lean run in his last 4 matches:

0/38
1/52
4/31
0/44

Taken a few wickets, but has been quite expensive.

Would love to see this guy in Pakistan colours tomorrow - but will Misbah and Co make that decision?

I will give husnain a go tomorrow if it was upto me but I wouldn't play fahim or wasim jnr

I know it's only practice but the kid looks impressive in warm-ups.

Another who was hitting the length discs regularly and bowling at a decent pace.

Isn't it time that we saw some of these guys play
. Why are we treating every match as a world cup final. We know Rauf bowls like a headless chicken at times, and when you are confident is the time to play the younger players.

How was his runup? He looked talented in the PSL but all over the place.

Hasnain regardless of how he’s performing has really improved his runup and general form into the delivery stride.

Difficult to tell during practice as they weren't bowling off their full run-up. But it still looked stuttered, stop/start.

That’s the concern with Wasim. He looks so far from being ready, he shouldn’t be anywhere near playing. The likes of Shahnawaz and Arshad Iqbal are ahead of him as they’ve honed their actions in first class cricket somewhat.

Pakistan rushes in youngsters to first team before they are ready. These youngsters need to play at least two full seasons of domestic cricket.English trundles bowl better than our quick bowlers because of their experience in county cricket. They bowl good line and length.

Wasim is a genuine all rounder we're the other two are just bowlers

Got a hattrick yesterday in KPL and today scored 19* off 5 balls.

To be considered an all rounder he needs to score a few hundreds in domestic cricket. Otherwise his credentials as an all rounders are just nothing but hot air.

If a good scoop is all it takes to be an 8 then I am sold.

Like I said name me a player in the Pakistan line up who can play the scoops or the reserves sweep not even Babar can play that.scoops requires skill and he isn't just a slogger like you said.

Watching him at the KPL - he is clearly a very useful lower order hitter.

Some wonderful shots during the tournament.

Guy has a lot of upside potential, I hope he is developed well.

It was noticeable yesterday that under pressure he started to bowl high full tosses. Its an area of weakness that he has to face and work on

Good to see him playing and in the wickets also - 2 so far vs Bangladesh

How fast was he bowling? Or dont we know this because of Bangladeshi speed guns?

After the speed guns were sorted he touched 145 kph couple of times and was consistently around/above 140 kph.

Good to see him take his chance, he bowled very well and good to see the management rested Shaheen.

Think there has been a visible change in his bowling action. It was a lot more round arm today as opposed to its usual slingy self. I wonder if Vernon Philander has anything to do with it? @Saj

Waseem is no mug with the bat.Even Rauf can strike the ball.Pakistan batting depth is good now.

Good to hear he is in 140’s. did he bowl similarly quick today?

The lad looks to have something about him and he seems eager to learn.

Looks a very promising cricketer with a bright future.

Completely agree.

There is a certain mannerism about him that reminds me of Mohammad Asif. A very easy repeatable action and he looks so much at ease when he is bowling. It seems like he can bowl at 5-7 mph faster if he really wanted to.

One of his balls in the 4th over fourth over lifted sharply from good length which Rizwan failed to collect over his head. That surprised every one. Clocked around 141 kph. If he can add another 3-5 kph, or crank up for the effort balls, he will be a handful.

He continues to impress me. Looks like a pretty solid bowler and while he's shown it in limited opportunities, he has certainly hit the ball far and looks technically decent to be a proper allrounder. Glad Pakistan made the swap for him over Faheem and finally recognized Faheem is a Test only player.

Hope he cement his place ahead of Hassan Ali as an allrounder for WT20 in Australia. I don't even want to think what will happen to Pakistan if they keep Hassan Ali for the Wt20 in Australia.

Hassan can play in tests matches especially in Pakistan & maybe the ODI's as well.

Mohammad Wasim - bowler

I tried to search, but didn't find any thread on him. Apologies if I didn't search well enough.

Anyways I have watched him bowl previously but watched him more carefully against the BD in ongoing T20Is series. He is only 22 and can generate some pace as well. Usually operates at late 130s and many deliveris in 140s as well. Seems to have decent control on his line and length.

He has decent batting averages in List A and T20s too.

Should he be taken to Australia come next World T20 in less than 12 months? Could be either him or Hassan Ali?

Seen him twice taking difficult catches on his own bowling in this series.

Waseem dahani should accompany rauf and shaheen.
Shaheen needs to be bowled out before 16th over.
Keep a close look on naseem and hasnain too tho i like the naseem is bowling nowadays more

Man of the series, should also have played the games vs Scotland and Namibia, those games would have set him up nicely for the SF....

He should be playing as many t20/odis games as possible in the next couple months.

Both Hassan Ali and Wasim can be fitted in to the line up for the next world cup.

Waseem was trying to bowl yorkers today but he ended up bowling full tosses.Needs some tips from Shaheen. He is good find for Pakistan.

Seemes to have a knack for taking wicket caught and bowled have his own bowling, a very good player indeed, I was hoping he would have gotten some games in the world cup. Will be interesting to see how he develops and if he ends up playing in t20 world cup 2022 in Australia, could be handy in those conditions.

Looks like a hard working cricketer, making steady progress . Now top contender for 3rd seamer's spot in tests also , along with Naseem and Dhahani. Hope he improves his batting also and displaces the useless Faheem Ashraf for good.

No he isn't top contender for 3rd seemer role in tests we'll not yet anyways.

No way near test material. Seems you hate Faheem but he is miles better then waseem for tests. Bowling and batting wise. In fact I am seeing wasim bat he’s no better then a no 9 or 10 in tests but no reason why he can’t improve as he does have some potential.

Has a fast bouncer and a good yorker. Has some variations for white ball cricket. Should play ahead of Hasan Ali in my opinion atleast in T20s.

What an absolute gem of delivery to get rid of Babar Azam. This guys got the raw ingredients to go a long way.

Great talent, great attitude, smiling face, athletic, young.

Too bad Hasan ali is in the team who will get picked ahead of this guy

I really think he should be our 4th seamer in tests. That needs to be guaranteed - he has age on his side plus his bowling action is simple and repeatable which can bowl at length at consistent basis

T20s or ODI he may not find a spot as an all rounder or bowler between shadab, Hasan, Rauf, dahani, shaheen, imad… I suspect seniority and politics will play a role in LOIs for him

I think he's a great test prospect as well. What he needs to learn is a good stock test delivery. If he can consistently land it around that off stump at just short of a good length he would be very dangerous.

I'm very interested in seeing him bowl on some quicker pitches. The way he puts his shoulder into it, I think he could be particularly successful in Australia provided his accuracy improves.
