[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Saud Shakeel: Essential or Liability?

Saud is a quality test batter but hasn't kicked off in odi's which is fine. He still deserves to be in the odi squad because atm Pakistan stocks are dry and pcb never bothered to actually nurture proper white-ball talent.

Saim ayub seems to be the only one who was nurtured properly (To an extent as ba/riz tried their hardest to ruin him as well) since saim got infinite runs despite failures to prove his worth and showcase his proper talent.

Only pcb can make moronic selections, For example they didn't select sajid khan on the basis of his poor list A bowling avg but then decided to pick Khusdil Shah? What sense does that make?
Hussain Talat deserved a go ahead of Saud and Kamran.

He has scored heavily in List A cricket and his performance in the warm-up game against a close to full-strength Afghan team is no fluke.

We have just pressed the panic button and brought in two terrible ODI cricketers and one average one to fill the void of one Saim Ayub.

Saud was completely dropped from ODIs after 2023 WC, he wasn't considered for last ODI series against SA, Zim & Aus. Although I am disappointed with Saud's failures in these 2 matches but he should get more opportunities to prove his worth. You can't expect player to perform if you use him on ad-hoc basis in particular format

Saud has never been a top performer in List A cricket like Hussain Talat, Tayyab Tahir etc.

His introduction into the ODI team was not correct, and he was rightfully dropped from the team after mediocre returns in the 23WC.

The only time I do remember him playing well in limited overs cricket is when he opened for Gladiators in PSL. He is too timid to play like that at international level.

Dropping Ghulam after just one game for a limited batter like Saud was also not a great decision.

Ok then why Hussain Talal is not selected if he is a top performer?

Saud ODI career is mismanaged by selectors as he was never given consistent chances. Before 2023 WC he just played 6 ODIs in bits & pieces, he was completely out of ODI side but all of a sudden selected for WC.

Saud had an average performance in WC but still performed better than those who got long rope:

68(52) vs ND, 31(30) vs Sri, 6(10) vs Ind, 30(31) vs Aus, 25(34) vs Bang, 25(34) vs Afg, 52(52) vs SA, DNB vs Bang & NZ, 29(37) vs Eng

Ghulam has only 1 good 50 against SA & 1 century against ZIM. The point is why Saud wasn't considered for ODIs against Aus, ZIM & SA and selected all of a sudden for tri series and CT if he was in plan?? You can't expect player to perform if you don't provide security & comfort. Look at Babar how he is struggling even after getting free ride since many years now. Rizwan has played better than Babar in ODIs in last few years but even he isn't consistent

In the latest episode of the PCB Podcast, Salman Ali Agha:

"He [Saud Shakeel] has a very strict routine. He wears black shoes before and after the match, wakes up at 6 AM for breakfast, and eats dinner at 6 PM. He follows his process so strictly that I haven’t seen anyone else as disciplined. I don’t want to follow his routine exactly because it’s too strict for me, but it’s impressive."

Saud Shakeel opening the PCT batting today. How will he fare in partial absence of Fakhar Zaman at the top against New Zealand in the CT opener 2025

Big big opportunity for Saud he can effectively kill 3 players with 1 innings.

Fakhar Zaman Saim Ayub Babar Azam
Will he can he ??

He did what he could.

Looked like he was trembling the moment he came out to open.

Commies tried to build him up with home ground hype but he didn't look anything like it. Rather looked scared.

Its the job of the selectors to identify long term prospects. Saud is very limited and he doesn't have a long ceiling.

Don't quite understand how he ended up in the XI at the expense of Ghulam who had a MoM performance in the last series.

Saud isn't cut out for white ball. Asad shafique 2.0 indeed.

I'd rather have given a fair chance to Kamran ghulam to see if he can make it. He has a better chance imo.

With the limited choices we have the Squad for match against IND should be :

Imam ul haq
Usman
Babar
Rizwan
Salman
Kamran gulam
Saud sakil
Shaheen Shah
Hasnain
Nasim
Abrar ahmed

Haris Rauf should be kept away else he will leak around 80-100 runs max!

What on earth is this man? :facepalm

No intent, no shots, no strike rotation. What is the point of this guy?

He just played a reverse sweep where he missed the ball and it plopped gently into his stomach.

Saud has played better than Rizwan & Babar. He has got very few opportunities in ODIs and that too irregularly

Saud Shakeel at the mid-innings interview on his dismissal against India:

"I was just taking a chance there. It wasn’t the right time to get out.

Early on, the ball was coming onto the bat nicely, and there was some swing. But the pitch has slowed down now.

We have to put up a fight with the ball. Taking early wickets will be key to putting pressure on India. We need to strike early, definitely."

Saud Shakeel got timed out in President's Trophy, Final 2025

Saud Shakeel, a Pakistan batter, has become the seventh player in first-class cricket history to be dismissed as "timed out." During a President's Trophy match, Shakeel, representing State Bank of Pakistan, was late to emerge from the dugout after two quick wickets fell. The opposing team's captain, Amad Butt of Pakistan Television, appealed when Shakeel failed to be ready to bat within the mandatory three-minute time frame.

Here is the reason for this incident as a team-mate of Saud Shakeel told PakPassion:

'I was in the washroom. Because we are playing at night time after breakfasting and players need to drink lots of water after that we need to to go to washroom lots of time and the weather is very cold at night time as well.'

But what would you have done if you had to bat a few minutes earlier but then you had to go susu as soon as you arrived at the crease?

@Kianig89 is the next agenda assigned to you is to discredit Saud so that he is eliminated as a Test captaincy candidate? Tell the truth! I presume you are fasting

What kind of Freshy brings up Saud Shaqeel’s class after the India game? That too after what we saw Rizwan do :)):))

Are you dumb, what has this got with India , Saud was sleeping during the game President Trophy final and was timed out , his team lost by 3 wickets.

Tells us his commitment to domestic cricket and the double standards poster like you have

Looks like you were sleeping during the India game too.

Thori si sharam aur hayaa ho na tou underground ho ka Kuch mahino ke liye.

He doesn’t need to go anywhere in this case. We’ve seen the level of the clown you have been trying to promote as his replacement.

I like him but honestly he's another Asian batter similar to Asad Shafiq. I view him as a better test batsmen then Asad Shafiq but he hasn't really proven himself against good bowling.

England spinners are poor. The likes of saqib mehmood even on doctored pitches are non threatening. While I did like his century the bowling quality wasn't all that great.

Sri Lankan bowling is also poor. A 38 year old usman khawaja bossed them in their own den, even Abdullah managed to score a century against them + his Bangladesh test century was too slow.

Ik it's test cricket but if you're preparing 800 pitch roads that England can tonk you on, thek a 174 ball 100 on such a pitch is criminal. Even the likes of Joe root played faster then you.

I believe mamoon said he's on par with YK as a test batsmen which is not true. He's not even in the same league as yousaf who's atleast a tier below YK in test cricket.

Honestly Azhar Ali was a better test batter then saud.

People rate him too high for white ball cricket but TBH he is not suited for it. He should stick to red ball game but even in red ball he struggles against a quality bowling. His short ball games is almost non-existing.

But he is saud classy shakeel lol 😂
I would say the classiest batsmen I've ever seen is( not ranked in order)

1) saeed Anwar
2) Ricky Ponting
3) Sachin Tendulkar
4) Kumar Sangakkara
5) Lara
6) Amla, De villers and Qdk (different batters but all classy in their own right)

^^ Again this based of class, not actual skill.

for example Steve smith is better then all these guys in test cricket but he isn't classy, weird stance, often tends to edge, mistime, has probably the weirdest cover drive I've ever seen, swings 180 degrees for lofts lol.

Then similarly the likes of gilly are better then sanga in odi but he isn't classy, he's destructive yes but isn't very classy as a batsmen.

Dhoni had a gully technique as well

Then Kallis is a goat test batter but he's kinda ugly as a batter.

Kohli is very classy at times but not always, he gets the job done though.

Same case with Viv, not a classy batter, but a destructive and effective one.

Imo for me a classy batter is someone who attacking but has pretty easy on the eye classy shots. For example

A) Good cover drives
B) Some but not all unorthodox strokes like paddle scoops, Sweeps, Reverse sweeps
C) Cut shots vs Spin
D) lofted drives( always a treat watching such shots)
E) One leg slog sweep vs spinners. Qdk does it best.
F) Dab down to fine leg or any late cut strokes vs raw pace.
G) Good use of the feet against spin

^^ Someone like Steve Smith has none of these, even against spin his feet are moving all over the God damn place which is why commentators call him dancer.

But he's classy beyond belief.

Remember class doesnt equal skill. You can be classy but you can also suck. Saud shakeel is classy and easy on the eye vs spin its just he isnt that good at batsmen 🤣🤣

Who do u think is most classy.
Saim Ayub or Saud Overrated Shakeel

Saim ayub is classier but as I said classy has nothing to do with being a better batsmen.

People confuse the word Class with Classy.

Saud shakeel is 100x classier then fakhar zaman as a Batsmen since fakhar is mostly pull shots, slog sweep and drives in the offside. Very rarely he might play an unorthodox stroke but fakhar doesn't give of the vibes of being a pretty batsmen.

However talent wise hes clearly 1000000x >>>>>>>>> the likes of babar, Rizwan, Saud etc etc despite not being as shiny as babar or saud

Asad Shafiq was equally good against pace and spin even though he wasn't extremely good. Saud is most of the times all at sea against pacers. But he's been visibly working on his game atleast in tests. Asad's problem was his continuous lapses of concentration at the worst time.

Rumours picking up he’s the next Test captain
Will be an upgrade over shan for sure. But it also depends on who is gonna be the coach.

Saud is a good asset to have for red ball for sure... Not for LOIs.
