[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Saud Shakeel: Essential or Liability?

Of course you want a daddy 100 every time but it just doesn’t happen. This pitch isn’t that easy and South Africa are test champions for a reason. Still you want your best players to be able to score tough runs not just cash in when it’s easy. 66 today is just about ok. Feel he could have hung around a little bit longer. He’s batting way too low. Should be coming in at 4. Followed by babar and agha. Rizwan should be way lower.

Highlights of Saud's knock against South Africa in the first innings of the 2nd Test at Rawalpindi

He’s a very good player but certainly the pressure of an unrelenting attacking line with a deficit to overcome on a wearing track will test most players. Needs time you can’t just get rid of players the minute they fail.

But kg needs to come in possibly in place of Abdullah

If you watch his record, he always goes missing under pressure ie 3rd and 4th innings. He's had enough sample size to prove us wrong. He is a left handed version of Asad Shafiq

Possibly. But he’s only played 20 tests. It takes time to develop that kind of gritty mentality that we all want. He can’t just be discarded but certainly needs the top order to do its bit.

You are being unfair. He’s a very good player but it takes a lot for a good player to become world class certainly more than two years. For a start he hasn’t played tests for a year. He should be in Odi’s. Just look at yousufs record in the first not 2 but 3 years.

Most of his 50’s came against soft opposition with very few in wins in there. Most of yousufs initial big draws came against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and new Zealand (in a draw where even saqlain got a 100.

It takes time for a player to develop mental toughness like yousuf or younis khan. Some don’t like Asad Shafique or Azhar Ali. But they need to be given a long rope.

This is younis khan over 4 years.

Take away a very memorable knock in 2001 in New Zealand most of these are soft runs against weak opposition in home conditions (Pak or uae). There are only 4 100’s in a winning cause.

Younis yousuf babar, Saud are the epitome of soft runs in early part of their careers. But unlike Saud they have been odi players even t20. Saud just needs a bit of time in international environment. He’ll come good.
