Expected to to play his first game of the season for Hampshire vs Surrey

Good opportunity for him to return to form. He was a bit rusty against England.

Surrey have won the toss and have opted to field

Match reduced to 17 overs.

My favorite Pakistani bowler at the moment.

Hope he does well!

Same. Also, hes young, hope PCB arrange some communication classes for the younger folks.

I agree! There is lots of potential in our upcoming youngsters and I want to see PCB groom them well. Give them media training, take care of their diets etc.

Haha, take it easy Shaheen! Poor lads can’t play that. :ssa

The fact that both Shaheen and Naseem bowl bouncers regularly outside of international cricket suggests that it's Waqar that is telling them not to do it.

As mentioned few times before, he is just a young lad who is gonna have ups and downs. Even the best LOI pacers of the world dont set the world on fire in every other day and can go for runs in T20s. We shouldnt be over analyzing his every match. He looked completely out of sorts even before the WC 19 as well but then performed really well when given an opportunity and broke few records along with becoming one of the highest wicket taker.

He is gonna blow hot and cold like any talented young player who has ever played cricket.

Overpitched deliveries and balls too wide or too short. Shaheen bowling rubbish here. Should have rested after the England series. Should be rested in domestics and the Zimbabwe series.

Shaheen needs to relocate to a better team and setup. Neither is Hampshire winning nor are the coaches particularly remarkable nor is he rubbing shoulders with England’s top talent. Who referred Shaheen to Hampshire?

Who are the coaches???

Who are the coaches???

Head Coach Adrian Birrell has as many First Class games as Shaheen’s entire international career (46). Bowling Coach Alfonso Thomas is decent, 26 bowling average across 164 FC matches and even played in the IPL apparently.

Nothing to write home about — given his talent, Shaheen should be with a better county setup I reckon.

Birrell's coached Ireland to World Cup wins over Pakistan and Bangladesh, he coached the winners of the first Mzansi super League, he coached England u19 during the time in which the likes of Root, Stokes and Buttler were developed in the setup and he's been assistant coach for the South African national team, he's built up quite a track record.

It's been a poor season with a depleted team but Afridi hasn't exactly helped much has he. He's been outperformed by the local left armer in Chris Wood and a USA international in Ian Holland...

Depleted? James Vince is the biggest name in the team followed by Rilee Roussouw and then nobodies.

Don’t you think Shaheen would be better off elsewhere?

Depleted?

Of course it's been depleted. Vince has only just returned to the team after missing most of the season, Munsey has been injured for half the games, Rossouw and Abbott are still in South Africa, Liam Dawson is injured and out for the tournament (along with his likely young replacement in Brad Taylor) and Donald (one of more promising young power hitters in the country) is injured and out for the season.

Shaheen bowls the first over of the innings, gets hit for 12. Let's see if he can make a comeback

He’s being burned out. Needs to stop playing cricket for some time... how many games does he have left at Hampshire?

If I am not wrong just one more. Hampshire team has been pretty mediocre as a whole and is at the bottom of the table so not going to the next stage.

Hampshire with their current lineup hasnt been the best team for Shaheen. Sure he is an international bowler and should lead his team to victories but he is just 20 years old and without much experience and quality players in Hampshire has been a tough ride for him. Shaheen's line and lengths are obviously not as strong due to lack of experience which is why he sometimes is all over the place and sometimes really produces what he is capable of but some experienced guys around does help a bit in initial days of ones career.

Shaheen has been in UK in a bio-secure bubble for 3.5 months now.

Stop SSA, playing cricket for so long that too in bubble
C'mon!!

Players aren't in bio-secure bubbles for county cricket.

Are you sure? Are they really allowed to roam freely potentially risking the who team and even the tournament? There must be some procedures.

It wouldn't be logistically realistic to have a bio-secure bubble system. If players test positive or come into contact with someone with symptoms they isolate (as multiple of Afridi's team mates were during todays game).

Makes sense but, still not an easy environment to be in as a cricketer I think.

A pretty poor return from Shaheen in this stint as a whole. Didn't look very good at all.

Nonetheless, there's always something a 20 year old can learn from a stint playing decent quality cricket and it'll be beneficial to him regardless. I imagine a lot of lessons learnt at Hampshire will be about what not to do (and playing too many games might be one of them)

Shaheen plays for LQ in PSL so Hampshire being mediocre shouldn't be made an excuse for his non-performance. He's still making the ball talk as was evident in last game but he's been inconsistent throughout the summer. He needs a bit of rest, should be rested for Nat T20 cup & Zimbabwe series and play only in QeA trophy ahead of NZ tour.

LQ has a much better bowling attack, it’s invaluable to have the support of Haris and Dilbar and even Samit Patel. And between Fakhar, Lynn, Hafeez, and Dunk, the batting is much better. Shaheen in general is not under as much pressure to be the sole performer as he is here at Hampshire.

Dismal stuff from Shaheen

6 Matches, 22 overs, 191 runs, 1 wicket , Econ rate = 8.68

Fair to say Shaheen has continued his poor form against England and is having a bit of a nightmare in the T20 Blast.

1 wicket at an average of 191.

Barring that final T-20 game against England, he's had a shocking England tour and to the naked eye, he looks like he has regressed a bit. Time for some rest and going back to the drawing board.

A good beating and a huge learning curve is perfect for Shaheen. A real test of character.

He needs a rest, to relax and come back focused and refreshed.

A horror tour of England for him. Hopefully this is a lesson for him and he can get back to his best soon.

Finally another wicket for Shaheen in today's game vs Middlesex:

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/0zy3lg" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

2/12 in his 2 overs so far.

Finishes his stint in England with 4 wickets in his last 4 balls, hilarious turn around.

Absolutely incredible from Shaheen, 4 wickets from his last 4 balls to win the game - finishes his last match with 6/19 from his 4 overs.

Finishes with 6 wickets for 19 runs. Middlesex needed 23 from 18 at the start of his and were probably slight favorites. 4 wickets in the over and Hampshire win by 20 runs. Unbelievable stuff.
