[PICTURES/VIDEOS] The era of Faheem Ashraf starts now

Unceremoniously dropped by Pakistan but batting did not help us at all, so might as well go for a genuine bowler.

A bit harsh to drop him imo considering he was one of our best bowlers in the last test. Only time will tell if its a stroke of genius or a bad selection.

He was the best bowler in the 2nd test but good to see that they are willing to use different strategies.

Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has praised Pakistan's recent ODI performances and claimed that the current team combination is much different from how things were back in 2017 to 2019.

Speaking about the performances against West Indies, Faheem Ashraf said that Pakistan has done extremely well with the current combination.

"As far as the West Indies series is concerned, Pakistan has done really well. If the Pakistan side can retain their combination and if you look at our side in 2017-2019, we played with only one combination," said Faheem while speaking to reporters.

The all-rounder used to be an integral part of Pakistan's squad. However, Faheem claimed that he remains content and is delighted with how the team has been performing.

"If any one or two changes were made, Pakistan have remained very successful. So if Pakistan continues to do that, Pakistan will continue to do well in upcoming events," he added.

Faheem complimented Pakistan's all-format captain Babar Azam and added that bowling to him is not an easy task for any bowler.

"When you are bowling to someone like Babar and we do that in the PSL, no doubt it is tough since he is a world-class batter," Faheem said.

"As far as his temperament goes, every captain has a different temperament. There are certain situations where a captain has to be hard on his players but at the same time, he has to go easy too and most captains do like this," he added.

Answering a question regarding his inclusion in the national team for the Sri Lanka series, the all-rounder said, "I have always tried to represent my country and perform well for my side."

Played just 1 match for Pakistan this year and now not awarded a PCB central contract for 2022/23.

Where does he go from here?

Mohammad Waseem in response to Faheem’s exclusion from the PCB Central Contracts:

“Playing for the team does not guarantee a player’s inclusion in the central contracts. The criteria are straightforward, including performance over the previous 12 months, our plans for the next 12 months, and the role in the team, as well as the automatic selection"

“It further includes other factors like commitment, fitness, and the extent of participation in the domestic circuit,” he claimed. “Nobody said that Faheem isn’t a part of our future plans. The biggest proof of this is that he is accompanying the team on their tour to Sri Lanka."

“It is important to note that it is not the case that we will never choose a player who is not a part of the central contracts; rather, this is a common practice all over the world. Many players who are not covered by the contracts represent their teams"

Could he get a chance to play as Shaheen Shah Afridi injured?

Get him in . Will also strengthen the batting , he has a better average than the much heralded Shan masood!

Where is he these days? Surely he can't be worse than Khushdil and Asif Ali? Can't believe Pakistan only have 5 bowlers in their line up. Previously they used to have 6-7 guys who could bowl at least. :inti

Lol he is inferior to Pandya. Pandya bowls at 140-144 km/hr and bowls a heavy nasty bouncer. Pandya is a reliable batsman who can hit at will.

Faheem bowls at 127-132 km/hr, his bouncer is non existent and he has never delivered with the bat.

Looks like hoshiarpurexpress was trolling Pakistani fans. Where is Faheem? He is decent while not being great?

Rawalpindi, 2 September 2022: Central Punjab captain Faheem Ashraf has been ruled out of the Kingdom Valley National T20 Cup 2022-23.

The all-rounder was hit by a ball during his side’s match against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the Pindi Cricket Stadium which split his webbing. Faheem has been advised 12-day rest after which he will begin rehabilitation.

Faheem has been replaced by Asad Raza, who has been promoted from Central Punjab’s second XI team. In the second XI team, Bilawal Bhatti has replaced Asad.

He had that surprising consistent run in Tests with bat where he was regularly bailing Pak out.

Surprised things never clicked in white ball batting for him. Can't even remember a small cameo from his side in any half important game

Bilawal Bhatti still exists???

Seems one outcome of his trip to England....

Players need to be careful with such political affiliations - especially when they are still in their playing days

Good to see that Faheem has scored his 3rd first-class 100 in the ongoing QeA22

All-rounder Faheem smashed his first-class career’s third century by converting his overnight 68 into 109 not out. The left-hander scored at a strike rate of 80, smashing 20 fours in his 137-ball knock, as Central Punjab made 385 after beginning the day at 302 for five.

His bowling was always average and it was his batting potential which was the exciting thing about him, but he never kicked on.

Backed him for years, and all he showed was a few glimpses in test match cricket and pretty much nothing in limited overs.

Time to move on.

Faheem makes another comeback into the Test squad! Hopefully he can cement his spot as our pace bowling all rounder. We're desperately in need of one

Opening the bowling for Pakistan in Tests - who would have thought!

Gun barrel straight no seam no swing hoe much have we regressed in pace department a player like him opening the bowling absolute joke

Faheem is not going to take wickets on these pitches. They should have tried Wasim jnr,Muhammad Umar,Arshad Iqbal or Sameen Gul.There is no long term planning by PCB.Pakistan needs three or four reserve quick bowlers to cover for injuries. When the main bowlers can get injured there should be enough bench strength to cover for them.PCB should learn from Australia ,SA and England.

His bowling has badly deteriorated and he has gone the Razzaq route of becoming millitary medium.

Don't know why our players don't challenge themselves to be the best.

Faheem was always mid. Razzaq was a world class pacer at one point, that was never the case with Faheem.

Faheem is marginally better than Anwar Ali with the ball.

Let’s see if he has improved with the bat.

From the likes of Wasim & Waqar opening to Faheem bloody Ashraf opening the bowling for us. How far have we fallen as a cricketing nation. :facepalm

We have a proud legacy of fast bowing , never thought a trundler like Faheem will ever open the bowling for Pakistan, that too in place of Naseem Shah.

Rana did not perform good in the BBL.

61 runs for 3.3 overs.

He could have conceded the BBL record 70+ if he had been bowling in the first innings.

I have no idea why someone would select him at any level of cricket , have been pathetic at all level ever since Misbah picked him from some local club 7 years ago.

Sad to see the decline of Faheem. He shows decent technique with the bat but the bowling has regressed.
I don’t understand why almost all of the Pakistani cricketers in last 10-15 years tend to fall away, except Babar and Shaheen.
Fahims bowling has regressed a lot. Why is coaching staff and NCA not working with him to improve his skills and become a decent all rounder. Where is that zeal like Wasim Akhtar etc had to be the best in the world?

Well not sure about when his era will start but so far this season at the BBL he has 0 wickets and conceded 119 runs in 10.3 overs at an economy rate of 11.33

Better from Faheem - wicket for him in the Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Stars game

Faheem Ashraf at BBL 12 (season done for Hobart Hurricanes as ended up 6th)

At BBL 2023:

61 runs in 7 innings at a strike-rate of 107 is laughable.

His bowling wasn't much better 7 wickets in 9 innings at an economy rate of 8.12.

Tournament to tournament, the same Faheem Ashraf - where is the improvement? No idea who looks after these players in franchises or PCB but I see no improvement in him.

He is a bang average cricketer who once in a while will put in a good performance.

Average with the ball, average with the bat and average in the field.

What has he done in this game to help Azam Khan?

Faheem is an average cricketer.Amir Jamal and Mohammed Wasim are better prospects.

Shocking decision to send him ahead of Shadab himself. He would have cost them the game if Azam hadnt played a blinder. Average cricketer who has stagnated or gotten worse over time.

Shouldn't be near the team at all. Massive liability in both departments.

Seemed to lose the plot with the ball towards the end of the QG innings.

Economy rate of 9.19 at PSL8 so far.

Mediocre.

Interesting innings by Faheem this evening. Can't say I can fault him, making sure the game goes deep and supporting Azam.

Faheem bats well, he is under utilized. When the rest were throwing their wickets away, I knew he can rotate the strike.

He has improved alot as a batter over the years and he works quite hard. Wonder if his pace is good enough to survive in international. Pakistan does need a pacer allrounder

Don't think he is good enough. Bowling has regressed big time and the batting works because he has bigger hitters around him.

Useful player in domestics though.

6-7 years of ultra failure at international level in all formats he was tried in by Misbah and his followers and one good performance against a bottom ranked side and suddenly some people making Faheem Ashraf the best allrounder since Ian Botham. Knee jerk reaction .

his batting has been good even in test. He knows how to rotate strike. Infact, he rotate strikes better than our batters.

I think the issue with his bowling is his pace.

I wouldn't mind him being in the squad though

Lucky Faheem has at least two supports , Misbah is the 2nd one

No need for a strike rotator in the lower order in T20is.

Unless his bowling improves he isn't needed in T20is. I would rather take the fake all rounder Wasim Jr or even Hassan Ali over him.

This guy looks competent sometimes and bats like a number 11 most of the times.

I like to stay away from such characters.

To be honest as Sarfaraz said in post game, they bowled slower balls to him in the end and he got away with it. Cannot see Faheem repeating this performance in every other game

FAHEEM “DHONI” ASHRAF

Insane innings. Didn’t think he’d have it in him. Clutch finish.

Both him and Imad have 100x more potential with the bat than with the ball. It’s high time we treat them as batting allrounders and not bowling allrounders.

What an innings by Faheem Ashraf - match-winning knock of 51*(26) - Don't think we will see an innings like this again

Fair play to Faheem.

However, w/ Faheem , at international level, the question is always this:

Is he a batting all rounder or a bowling all rounder?

A thoroughly mediocre cricketer who’s rightfully discarded from national side. Been playing since 2017 has he ever scored a 30 odd at the top level? That’s because you don’t bat against likes of ilias and Afridis there

Player of the Match, Faheem Ashraf for his match-winning 51*

Another player hyped because he was able to smash the likes of Ilyas and Afridi. Special innings from him tonight but he will never be able to translate this on the international level. Did anybody see his below average BBL outing?
