Ermm are my eyes deceiving me..20 overs and 26 extras already with 21 wides....and why hasnt so called shehzad bowled

In other warmup match, India 129/1 in 30 against Afg. Very solid and boring start by Indian kids. Should change gear now to make 275+. Jaiswal 69no has a chance for a nice century in the warmup.

Afghans are a very good team...i am disappointed all the hype about mohammed shehzad...not even bowled despite pak using about 7 bowlers..surely he cant be that good then

Match update: Nigeria 109 all out 36.2 overs

ICC have made a mistake in Qasim Akram name below!

India 184/3 in 40 overs with both Jaiswal and Tikal retired after hitting half centuries.

Effectively only one wicket down. Just a warm match! Let’s give everyone a chance to bat!

Looks like India is far superior than us. AFG 33/7 where Nigeria scored 109 against us.

Never go by the warm ups. Tournaments have pressures of their own. Anyway, Pakistan and India both look far superior to other teams. Will be interesting to see how Rohail and Haider play against Indian pacers who seem really good.

India will win this WC quite easily

India upcoming talent is amazing

given you are either chairman of u-19 selectors or najomi (fortune teller) can you tell me what my company stock would be if i go for an ipo in next 10 years... and plz dont try to take the pathtic place of a certain mamoon, one idiot is enough

I am not najomi
But
Do you know about their system?

Do you know about their talent pool? Biggest in the world with proper system in place

One if their player has already a list A double hundred

They crush afg u25
And Pakistan mostly struggle against afg u25

India is hot favorite

This is sort of reverse jinx being put on India :)

India should reach semi. After that it’s a matter of temperament, luck and toss.

did we just not beat them in tht tournament .. and actually won it ?

indian cricket has been run professionally for last few decades... we have just began. ...

they are ahead of us yes, but mostly because their talent gets nurtured relatively better than us ...

so at u19 level, there wont be much difference ...

negativity doesnt help ... they might be strong but we will win.....

PS we did beat the crap out if the Afg 23 ... so ......

India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka prepare for U19 World Cup with warm-up victories

Group A rivals India and Sri Lanka claimed contrasting wins on the opening day of warm-up action ahead of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 in South Africa.

Kartik Tyagi took a hat-trick in the opening over to see reigning champions India past Afghanistan by 211 runs, while Sri Lanka’s mettle was tested in a tight 15-run win over South Africa.
Nigeria, making their first appearance in an ICC tournament, were beaten by Pakistan while England’s clash with Zimbabwe was abandoned.
Tyagi and Jaiswal aid India in crushing win

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Karthik Tyagi starred with bat and ball as India opened their campaign to defend the U19 Cricket World Cup title with a thumping win over Afghanistan in Pretoria.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, India put on 255 for eight off their allotted 50 overs, aided by a 129-run second wicket partnership between Jaiswal (69) and Tilak Varma (55). Both batsmen retired out soon after to give batting practice for their team-mates, with cameo performances from captain Priyam Garg (36) and Shubhan Krishnan Sridhar (25*).

The Afghanistan bowling duo of Abid Mohammadi (three for 19) and Fazal Haq (two for 48) played their part in slowing down the onslaught and kept the required run rate to below six runs an over. However fast bowler Tyagi (three for 10) tore in to the Afghanistan top order with a hat-trick in the first over that dismissed captain Farhan Zakhil, Sediq Atal and Rahmanullah without a score on the board.

Sridhar, Utkarsh Singh and Sushant Mishra went on to pick up two wickets apiece as Afghanistan were reeling at 43 for nine after 17.3 overs before a rain delay, and with wicketkeeper Mohammad Ishaq the only player to register double figures. Ishaq was run out two balls after the break as India went on to record a resounding result.

Afghanistan will begin their tournament against hosts South Africa in Group D in Kimberley on Friday. The four-time champions, meanwhile, open their campaign against Sri Lanka in Potchefstroom on Saturday.

Sri Lanka see off South Africa

Sri Lanka clinched a thrilling 15-run victory over South Africa in the teams’ opening warm-up assignments in Soweto.

After winning the toss and batting first, Sri Lanka’s Navod Paranavithana played an anchoring role as regular wickets fell around him.

The opener smashed an impressive 12 fours and a six during his 64-ball 68, getting his side past the 100-run mark before falling in the 24th over.

Despite a below-par return from most of the Sri Lankan batters, there were crucial contributions from the lower order with Mohamed Shamaaz (32) adding valuable runs to the total as they posted 197 all out with eight balls to spare.

In reply, South Africa’s openers set the ideal foundation, as Andrew Louw (15) and Jonathan Bird combined for a 48-run partnership for the first wicket. Although the Sri Lankan bowlers managed to take wickets at regular intervals, Bird continued his dominance, scoring eight fours and one six for his 71 off 76 balls.

This was before a spell of 11 overs where South Africa lost five wickets for 39 runs and despite a valiant 46 from all-rounder Jack Lees, the junior Proteas were bowled out for 182. Amshi De Silva’s 2 wickets for 30 runs led the charge for Sri Lanka, with six bowlers taking one wicket.

Pakistan power past Nigeria

Pakistan eased to a nine-wicket victory over Nigeria in their warm-up meeting at Hammanskraal. Chasing a modest 110 to win, the 2004 and 2006 champions reached their target in 14.3 overs aided by a destructive 87 off 38 balls from opener Haider Ali.

Ali's innings contained eight boundaries and four sixes before retiring out. Mohammad Haris (18*) and Fahad Munir (14*) saw their team home to complete a convincing performance.

Despite winning the toss and electing to bat first, Nigeria struggled as they were hustled out for 109 with nearly 14 overs left remaining from their innings. Sulaimon Runsewe (29) and Simon Mba (20) top scored for the West Africans, with no other batsman managing double figures in a fixture played under murky skies.

The Pakistani bowling, led by Aamir Ali (three for 12), was equally destructive with Abbas Afridi and Qasim Akram also claiming two wickets apiece. Pakistan, coached by former Test batting stalwart Ijaz Ahmed, will be in Group C where they will start the tournament against Scotland on Sunday.

This is a first tournament appearance for the Nigerians, who begin their Group B campaign against Australia in Kimberley next Monday.

England and Zimbabwe frustrated by rain

England and Zimbabwe saw their warm-up match rained off on Sunday as persistent showers hit the JC de Villiers Oval in Pretoria.

Zimbabwe had won the toss and elected to bat first but were in trouble after an excellent opening burst by George Balderson. He took three for 16 on four overs, including a wicket with the sixth ball of the match.

There were also three wickets for Scott Currie, who ended with figures of three for 30. His haul included the scalp of the dangerous Wesley Madhevere. The only resistance for Zimbabwe came from Tadiwanashe Marumani, who compiled 53 off 75 balls, including one six and five fours. Zimbabwe were eventually bowled out for just 116, in 31.5 overs.

With England poised to chase and confirm their credentials as one of the tournament contenders, a Highveld storm curtailed proceedings, and the match was eventually abandoned, with England on one without loss after just a single over.

The Sri Lanka under-19s clinched a thrilling 15-run victory over South Africa in the team’s first of two ICC under-19 Cricket World Cup warm-up matches in Soweto on Sunday.

The junior global showpiece will be hosted in South Africa from 17 January – 09 February.

After winning the toss and batting, Sri Lanka’s Navod Paranavithana played an anchoring role as regular wickets fell around him. The opener smashed an impressive 12 fours and a six during his 64-ball 68, to get his side past the 100-run mark before falling in the 24th over.

Despite an under-par return from most of the Sri Lankan batters, there were crucial contributions from the lower order, with Mohamed Shamaaz (32) adding valuable runs to the total as the subcontinent outfit posted 197 all out.

In reply, South Africa’s openers set the ideal foundation, as Andrew Louw (15) and Jonathan Bird combined for a 48-run partnership for the first wicket.

Although the Sri Lankan bowlers managed to take wickets at regular intervals, Bird continued his dominance to give the home side the momentum, scoring eight fours and one six for his 71 off 76 balls.

This was before a spell of 11 overs where the SA U19s lost five wickets for 39 runs and despite a valiant 46 from all-rounder, Jack Lees, the junior Proteas were bowled out for 182.

Amshi De Silva’s 2/30 led the charge for Sri Lanka, with six bowlers taking one wicket.

Sri Lanka won by 15 runs at the Braam Fischerville Oval, Soweto

South Africa U19 182 all out (Jonathan Bird 71, Jack Lees 46; Amshi de Silva 2-30)

Do we know why the hyped Mohammad Shehzad didnt get a game in the first match when every body could bat and bowl?

BD giving good fight to Aus in warm up match.

BD: 250/6 batting first
Aus: 149/4 in 31 overs- struggling a bit

This WC is going to be very interesting

There should have been a Pakistan vs India warm up match

Muhammad Shehzad did play. He bowled three overs and opened the batting. Played a supporting role of 18*(34) to Haider’s 70(38). Bowling figures were 0/8 off 3 overs.

The match between BD and Aus has tied.

Why would you risk a double when you only have one wicket left and have over 5 overs left?
Plain Dumb

BD won by 1 run against Aus. Last two wickets in the last two balls of 50th over inc a run out.

This should have been telecast!

Sorry. It’s tied as run out was during second run attempt on the last ball!

F Munir NOT OUT 14 17 2 0 82.35

That was Mohammed Haris who batted and bowled 3 overs unless everybody is getting mixed up

My bad. I believe the bowling figures were Haris’s but ESPN Cricinfo lists it as Shehzad who opened, interestingly enough. That makes more sense to me as well since I seem to recall from somewhere that Haris is more middle order vs Shahzad who was earmarked as an opener. Might be wrong though

It’s an under 19 bro relax nothing exciting about watching a u19 game and even worst a warm up they won’t waste their tv rights and prime time on a warm up game

UAE produce stunning U19 World Cup warm-up win as Bangladesh and Australia tie

United Arab Emirates showed exactly how much of a threat they will be in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup after upsetting New Zealand on the second day of warm-up matches in South Africa.

Tawhid Hridoy of Bangladesh bats with Patrick Rowe of Australia looking on during the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup warm up match between Bangladesh and Australia at Tuks Cricket Oval on January 13, 2020 in Pretoria, South Africa.

The two sides played out a one-wicket thriller in Johannesburg but that wasn’t the only exciting preparation match as Bangladesh and Australia tied their game in Pretoria.

A stunning bowling performance from Charlie Peet led Scotland to victory over Japan while there was also victory for West Indies, who beat Canada by three wickets.

Last-wicket pair help UAE win thriller

The United Arab Emirates fired an early warning shot ahead of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, beating New Zealand by one wicket in a thrilling warm-up match at St Stithians College.

Muhammad Farazuddin blazed a brilliant 37 not out off 18 balls, to take his side home in startling fashion with a 31-run partnership for the last wicket alongside Chathiyan Dashan (three not out)

The young Black Caps – seemingly set to be one of the dark horses in the tournament – had struggled for early partnerships, with wickets tumbling around opener Rhys Mariu (56).

Akasha Tahir was accurate in a new ball spell of one for 11 in four overs, and he received good back-up from the change bowlers.

It wasn't until Beckham Wheeler-Greenall (41) and Simon Keene (40) provided some late spirit that the Kiwis had a target to defend, the innings closing on 217 for nine after 50 overs.

And defend it they very nearly did, once they had breached the terrific opening pair of Aryan Lakra (46) and Vriitya Aravind (53) who notched a first-wicket stand of 92 in 22.3 overs.

When the ninth wicket fell, 31 runs were still needed off just 16 balls but Farazuddin and his powerful finish took UAE home, giving them a magnificent shot of adrenaline ahead of their tournament opener on January 18.

Bangladesh produce late heroics to tie with Australia

Bangladesh pulled off a late comeback to dramatically tie their ICC U19 World Cup warm-up fixture against Australia in Pretoria.

Chasing Bangladesh's impressive tally of 250 for six from 43 overs, the Australians were bowled out for exactly 250 when tail-ender Todd Murphy was run out by Shahadat Hossain attempting the winning run off the final ball.

Bangladesh had contained Australia thanks to a masterful bowling performance from Shoriful Islam (four for 39) and Tanzid Hasan (two for 27).

Shoriful was key as the last three wickets fell in the final 15 balls while Sam Fanning (46), Corey Kelly (44) and Lachlan Hearne (41) top scored for Australia.

Bangladesh, having elected to bat, saw three players post half-centuries with Parvez Hossein Emon, Tawhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain all scoring well in a match reduced in overs due to inclement weather.

Shamim’s top score of 59 not out off 33 balls contained three fours and three sixes.

Peet’s superb six helps Scotland defeat Japan

A remarkable spell of bowling by Charlie Peet saw Scotland overwhelm newcomers Japan by 256 runs in their warm-up match at St John's College.

Scotland won the toss and elected to bat first, amassing a total of 325 all out, in 47.2 overs.

Much of that was down to a second-wicket partnership of 126 between Tomas Mackintosh (103 retired) and Ben Davidson, who weighed in with 75.

In reply, Japan were still getting to grips with the novelty of bouncy turf wickets, struggling to play their natural game and being bowled out for 69.

Captain Marcus Thurgate was the only real resistance for the young Japanese side, with a determined 33 from 47 balls.

Beyond him, however, the Scottish attack heaped on the pressure, with the ten wickets falling for just 24 runs.

Peet's accurate slow bowling proved too much for the middle and lower order, and he helped himself to six wickets, conceding just two runs in 29 balls.

The match was completed with a sharp stumping from Mackintosh, off Peet, to round off a 256-run victory.

Morris knock rescues West Indies after Canada scare

Antonio Morris smashed a superb 96 not out as West Indies fought back and avoided a potential upset in their warm-up match with Canada.

Morris, whose knock came off 93 balls contained six fours and three sixes as Windies prevailed with 19 balls to spare.

He was ably supported by Nyeem Young (70) as the duo combined to put on a 123-run partnership for the sixth wicket as the 2016 champions narrowly avoided defeat.

At one stage, the Windies were 59 for four chasing Canada's 271 for nine to win, with seamer Rishiv Joshi (four for 23) the pick of the bowlers for the North Americans.

Earlier, Young (four for 70) also contributed in suppressing Canada's batting mayhem with critical wickets, albeit with a return of expensive figures.

Canada, who have never progressed past the first round in the tournament, were aided by a half-century from Akhil Kumar (59) and a late blitz from Ayush Verma (42 not out) towards their competitive score.

Their bowling kept the Windies on the back foot as the top order fell away without any meaningful scores, only for Morris and Young to combine to perfect effect in the latter stages.

oh dear our best two bats Haider and Rohail have gone...i think this could be tough now. Not sure who is batting according to Cricinfo which isnt correct

Muhammad huraira was the most proflic run scorer in both 3 day and one day U19 tournament yet Shehzad gets picked ahead who hasn't even played even U19 cricket before this.

And Fahad Munir promoted ahead of Irfan Niazi

Some really messed up decisions

I am sure the scorecard is messed up but i agree Huraira was the most profilic batsman so i am looking forward to seeing him in the world cup at the moment they are doing well..i see lots of all rounders which is all good as well
