[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Usman Tariq - Mystery spinner with an 'unorthodox' action [Cleared from suspected bowling action in PSL 9, Update on Post#150]

He spins it (or moves it both ways too) and varies his speed. He’s hard to time and uses the crease well. He’s a perfect t20 bowler. Unlike ajuntha mendis who has just one variation and was dangerous till he was found out Usman is all about variation so it’s hard to know what his stock ball actually is. Today he bowled at 49mph and higher.
Why was he not brought in earlier today - especially when the Kishan carnage was on? What is the point of hiding your mystery spinner till it is too late?

Shaheen is a world class bowler and the others didn't get "found out", they simply didn't have the drive and motivation to do their talent justice.

However, mystery spinners are at their best when there is still mystery around them.

If I was Salman, I wouldn't use Tariq unless absolutely necessary. Don't even play him in tomorrow's game, given that there isn't much riding on it. Save him for the knockout game.
What makes Shaheen world class?

He couldn’t have gotten better pitch and conditions than this, but he failed to live up to the hype created by the media and Pakistan fans.
The only people who overhyped him were Indian sports journalists, who needed something to generate clicks and interest in this match. Prior to the build-up for this match I have not really seen any Pakistani sell him as the second coming of Ajantha Mendis. Also, he bowled fairly well. But even on spin-friendly wickets you need support from the other end, which he did not have. Which is why Indian batters were content not taking too many risks against him and playing his spell out.

What will be more interesting is seeing him bowl when other team needs 70 off 45 and tries to take risks against him on a pitch like this. Most of the time he will come out on top, especially against teams like England who struggle against spin. It's not easy to line up a bowler who has so many things working in his favor in that one-on-one battle, and has 4-5 different variations. Especially if you haven't played him before.

Well you would have to ask the captain but in reality it’s not that Tariq bowled well. He did. It’s more that shadab and abrar didn’t bowl well. Spinners need it tight at the other end also. Pack need to get their spin attack sorted.

He's not been too hyped by us.

It's actually one of the rare times that you guys have hyped a Pakistani player more than we have.

He did well. Bowling the 19th over as a spinner vs India is tough. He came out well.

Could have used him in Asia cup.

He’s a breath of fresh air in a bunch of very ordinary cricketers. The guys is on par with the Indian spin bowlers like yadav and Varun. A quality operator. We need to keep trying new blood simple.

Tbh his action pause is a novelty. Teams will figure him out the more they play against him. They way he got bowled a straight Pandya delivery was utterly disgraceful. You cannot be a blatant walking wicket in this day and age.

He is a decent prospect. But expect to get exposed if he doesn’t have variations. Today while Pak bowled pitch was very conducive for spin bowling and I still didn’t see too many threatening balls. Pause is certainly a novelty but will 100% be worked out in few matches. SENA teams may struggle against him. Let’s see

He didn't get any wickets at the end of the day until SKY gifted him one. Actually Saim looked more threatening. This guy bowled a lot half tracker. Only reason he got away because it offered like 2.3 degree turn and ball was stopping.

Looks average. You could literally play mostly from the backfoot

A just decent now mostly due to novelty factor. I didn’t see anything that looked concerning. Yeah, can play backfoot for most of his balls. Good backfoot players will milk him and adjust pretty quickly. After sometime it will be like playing slow balls every ball. If he has many variations I am yet to see them. Let’s see how others play in super 8. teams like Eng are poor against anyone spinning or moving ball. NZ may come prepared well

I beg to differ. I thought he bowled brilliantly today. How many spinners are there in the world who would bowl so confidently and economically in the death overs of a T20 game and that too against well settled batters? None that I can think of.

He didn’t look threatening at all. Nowhere in the spell he looked like getting bunch of wickets. Swim looked more likely to get wicket than him. Only novelty factor kept Indians from attacking him. If they play few more matches against him they will take him cleaners.

They quite possibly can take him to the cleaners for a match or 2 but it doesn’t take away the fact is a wily world class operator on my eyes. But Indian batsman at the moment are on another level l. Elite batters

DOn't you think it is because they are seeing him for the first time? Even Namebia part time spinner confused INdians finished with 4 for 13 in 4 overs.

That pause in his action is extremely annoying. Once batters get used to it, he will get trashed and will be dropped soon. It will be hard to rate such players based on 6-9 months of performance.

Even with his novelty factor, I dont think he will be half good anywhere outside subcontinent even now. Opposition will analyse him alot more and will be ready for him in 6 months I think .similar to India in yesterday's game, they may target others more especially pacers.people can correct me if am wrong. I feel his bowling is genuine apart from faster delivery. Yesterday he bowled only one i guess. His action was completely different to the rest from the straight angle.I thought he was bending his arm there.

He had a great game as expected.

I wouldn't be surprised if Usman Tariq becomes one of the greatest spinners of all time (not just in Pakistan but even in franchise cricket).
This kinda hype after 1-2 games is precisely the reason why Pakistanis do not ever succeed. Too much focus on being the best in the team/world without focusing at the game in front of you. It happened to Babar and Abrar, will happen here too.

I meant T20 spinner. LOL.

Not sure about Test and ODI. He may not be effective in Test. :inti
