[PICTURES] Will spectators attend the ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

The best thing to happen in Lahore was the rain & the crowd has shown up.

The air has cleared out, things are fresh & as I said, GSL will look a spectacle once it's done. The night view will be even more gorgeous as the AQI has gotten better because of the rain.

Pak cricket team may perform badly but the hosting in Pindi & Lahore should be great with good crowd attendance even for neutral games (won't be house fulls but I expect decent crowd for all neutral matches there). Rawalpindi is also look scenic with the gorgeous backdrop of Margalla hills, wish they had improved the lights there though.

Blame the host for what?

The same scheduling issues? Tickets for the World Cup were released on 25 August, the first game of the WC was over a month away. Only the Indian games had tickets being sold in different phases.

The tickets for the Champions Trophy were released on 4th February, just 2 weeks from the start of the tournament. Before the release of tickets, there were reports of the tournament being moved away from Pakistan, that could’ve been another factor in people not looking to travel to Pakistan for the event.

You need to come back with a better argument.
LMAO. Didn’t Pakistan delay its participation decision for WC23 as long as possible? BCCi got a lot of grief from the usual suspects here

Indian flag is definitely missing here lol

Huh? Afghanistan beating England and Pakistan in the last World Cup

Netherlands beating South Africa and BD. SL beating England
Sri Lanka beating England wasn't a massive shock, they won in 2019 too.

Meanwhile at the last two T20 World Cups we've seen USA beat Pakistan, Ireland beat England, Zimbabwe beat Pakistan, Netherlands beat South Africa, Afghanistan beating Australia and New Zealand, Scotland beat West Indies, Ireland beat West Indies and Namibia beating Sri Lanka.

ODIs are obsolete with rise of T20. It makes no sense to have two white-ball formats especially when outside ICC events - ODIs are sparsely scheduled and played with heavily rotated teams. How many cricketers even play domestic List A games ?

Yes Tests also needs a revamp and is uneconomical for most boards etc etc which has been discussed endlessly.

90s nostalgia fans may not like it but those days are long gone. Sack the format off - isn't there enough fixture congestion ?

You'll obviously see more upsets in T20's - being a shorter format.

T20's are going to be the only format that matters going forward. It's delusional to think that Tests can survive either

One of the better crowds I've seen at any neutral ICC game. So loud and involved.

Credit to Lahore.

Yup, the threads about logos is not crying at all.

would love to be have go at you w/o you hiding behind the mods
Oh, you want to abuse me like last time? Well, the mods have upgraded their defense, no free hits this time. :yk

Not hiding behind them, just playing by the rules which a guy like you will never understand. Chal aage ja. :inti

Karachi is always like this whether PSL or international games

They never turn up

pcb just plain stupid for giving them games

Should have developed Multan instead
Well, Lahore turned up and a very good crowd

Only Karachi is the problem

This is honestly box office. A packed stadium of neutral fans and two excellent sides putting on a show.

By the way, even Lahore Stadium looks fantastic today and the crowd is lively. Are you enjoying the match or sulking in pain with a bucket full of 'choti choti' burnols? :yk :inti

Yes another beautiful state of the art stadium with a wonderful roof , stands and outfield.

So sad that the Pak team won't be delivering a beautiful performance here like they did in the beautiful state of the art Karachi stadium on the first day.

Gotta be honest, Karachi doesn't deserve games.

Whatever the reason is (lack of interest, stadium conditions) they don't show up like the fans in Lahore or even some of the other Punjabi cities.

This Australia vs England game was on the weekend and in between two fantastic teams so it was not a surprise to see a full house for this one.

Karachi is pathetic. They should not be allowed to host games anymore if they cant get crowds

I am truly shocked, just purely from a cricketing pov, imagine a stadium packed with english or aussie fans for a Pak vs India match? That will never happen. This is probably the best crowd i have seen in cricketing history for a neutral game lol
Pakistani crowd has made a record, its a housefull in lahore. Im in complete awe of this. Just wow. Lovely. Absolutely lovely.

He'd have been lynched had he tried wearing a Pakistani jersey in any of our stadiums.
That is true, i remember back in my uni days during a India vs Pak match. Some guys wore indian jerseys to the university live streaming. No one flinched an eye. Pakistanis are much more chill than Indians. You can judge from the comments from this thread, some indian posters need to act like they have some semblance of education. I dont want to quote them but some comments are extremely salty and pathetic as if their life depends on discrediting CT and Pakistan. I havent seen this level of awfulness from anyone. Truly bottom tier behaviour.

I asked you to come back with a better argument, and your response was ‘lmao’.

Pakistan’s participation or no participation wouldn’t have forced the ICC to move the tournament away, we ain’t got that power.

Pakistan’s uncertainty wouldn’t have affected our fans from travelling to India, they weren’t getting visas anyway.

It was issues from your side where you guys had to reschedule fixture’s because of kali puja.

Well done Lahore, well done PCB. Im hearing a lot of praise on social’s for the up gradation of GSL. People are saying the viewing experience has improved massively. Lets hope the good work continues.

The Lahore stadium looks good. It was well lit and the crowd for a neutral match was too good. Congratulations to the PCB and the Pakistani fans!
I wish India played there instead of in Dubai.

If Bharat played, there would be riots at the entrances. All of Lahore would be standing at the gates. Huge opportunity missed to win some hearts in Pakistan. These are things people always realise after taking harsh stances. Everyone is having fun in Pakistan and we are stuck in boring lifeless Dubai making the home team travel there to play us. Legendary pettiness from our side.

It was great to see a passionate, packed crowd at Pakistan's colosseum of cricket. This is what hosting an ICC event means to the people of this nation.

Karachi and Lahore are faaar apart in terms of development, don’t understand why yall compare as if we are in the 70s and 80s.

Karachi is a cluster fudge in terms of infrastructure. 2-3 hour traffic jams just to get to the stadium, military, police etc blocking roads for miles and miles. Nobody wants to go through that.

Lahore is the most advanced city in Pakistan, stadiums are easy to access.

Yeah , would have been fun to win some Dils/hearts and then see Ind beat Pak after Dil Dil Pak being played infront of the Pak crowd would have been good to watch ! :D

Jokes aside, IMO Ind missed a trick by not sending their team to Pak. The atmosphere would have been buzzing and fun. Would have been a treat to see Ind players in front of a crowd that is not majority Ind supportive and how they react to that. Missed opportunity I will say. The Lahore game today was positively buzzing and a cracker - you could hear the noise through the TV screen !

Beautiful crowd, lovely stadium and moreover they witnessed a historic run-chase, one of the best ODIs matches ever!

ODI format sucks. You can predict the outcome at the halfway stage, or after the first PP of the chasing team, more often than not. Rarely do we see an ODI still in the balance after 80-90 overs.

It was painful watching the first three matches of this tournament dawdling to its inevitable conclusion, much like many matches at the last World Cup.

The lack of shock results is another issue. Even in Tests we've seen surprises. I can hardly recount any shock ODI results in recent times.
The two new ball rule and field restrictions has ruined 50 over cricket. There can be no superstar bowlers and no more exciting finishes. Just get to the 40th over with wickets in hand and more than likely you’ll win. Very hard to take wickets on middle overs unless batsman makes a mistake.

Why are we dumping on khi? It was a housefull for Pakistan’s match.

Yeah, but I’ve been hearing people hating on Karachi crowds for last few years since cricket came back to Pak.

Ask anyone who lives in Karachi and they’ll tell you why the turnout is low in non Pak games at least or PSL. Unreal traffic rivaling the major cities across the world, maybe even more.

A slap on the face of cynics and self
Proclaimed thekedars of ODI cricket.

Appreciate people of Lahore. Show them love.
Modi missed a trick. He could've worked out something with Pak to ensure > presidential security for the Indian team and Pakistan would've agreed.

Just like many Pakistanis, I too hoped to see Virat play in a Pak stadium and that's gone now. Would've been great to see Rohit charm the Pak journalists too.

Crowd was fantastic for a neutral game. It was incredible to see such passionate crowd.

For that guy with Virat kohli jersey. Kudos to the guy. If an indian does that in India he would be lynched badly or probably killed. It can't happen here in India.

I don't know about Pakistan i haven't been to Pakistan but they seem like they don't hate indians like indians hate Pakistanis and muslims in general.

The crowd was brilliant last night during the Australia game and it was a value-for-money game for the spectators... more than 700 runs were scored...

It is gonna be another houseful in Dubai today because there is an INDIA-PAKISTAN clash coming up.

Great to see good crowd support today for the home team Bharat.

now that pakistan is out of the tournament, i wonder if locals will turn out to watch the remaining matches

The atmosphere is fantastic. Both India and Pakistan missed out playing there - India by not playing, and Pakistan by not being able to play.

Where is the crowd in Lahore for such an important match between Australia and Afghanistan

:kp

Karachi's crowd turnout has been embarrassing – almost empty stands.

This is why people don't go to stadiums in Pak. Post taken from reddit.

"I was not in Karachi for the Pakistan and New Zealand game but I was able to secure tickets for today’s game featuring England and South Africa. Since this was my first time attending an ICC event I figured I’d go all out and bought myself the most expensive ticket on offer for PKR 13,000.

Now, when I was buying the ticket they made it seem as if I was paying for a spot in one of hospitality boxes with a balcony. On the online booking thingy, there was even an option to choose a seat in a row of seats next to the balcony. There were only 20 seats on offer and I considered myself lucky that I was able to get one in time.

Today when I arrived at the stadium all excited, I was informed that my ticket entitled me to a seat downstairs in more of a general seating area and I was unable to go upstairs. Despite my ticket mentioning “VVIP” on it. I politely told the guy at the gate’s entrance that when I purchased my ticket, I was under the impression that I’d be seated upstairs. He rudely responded that area was only for VVIP’s and they all had spent 10-15,000 to get up there. I told him to look at ticket which clearly stated how much I had bought my ticket for and also mentioned the term “VVIP”

After looking at the ticket, he was taken aback and told me that he couldn’t help me and called over one of his colleagues. This guy was bit nicer and apologized for the inconvenience. He said several people had complained about this issue already over the course of this Champion’s Trophy but it was an issue above his pay grade. I told him I understood it wasn’t his fault and proceeded to go sit in the seating area. The view was still quite good but the area had no shade whatsoever.

After watching a few overs in the scorching sunlight, I couldn’t take it anymore and asked my driver to pick me up from the gate.

When I was exiting the stadium, the police officer at the exit told me that once I exited I wouldn’t able to re-enter the stadium. I told him I had no intention of coming back whatsoever. He asked me to hand in my ticket and since I wanted to hold on to it as a souvenir, I told him I had forgotten it back at the seat. He told to go back and fetch it. I smirked at him because of how absurd he sounded and exited.

While I was waiting for my car to pick me up, another police officer came up to me and told me I couldn’t stand there. I asked him where else did he expect me to wait ? On the main road ? He kept quiet. I had picked up a few hats from the ICC merchandise pop-up at the stadium to gift my friends. Each one cost like 4,000 and they were in a bag I was holding. He told me to show him what was in the bag. I did as asked and he proceeded to ask me if he could keep one of the hats for his kids. I told him how expensive they were and that no he could not just have them. He started getting defensive and asked me to show him my ID card and ticket. I told him that he was harassing me for no reason and that I was just standing there waiting for my car. And I walked away and stood in front another gate and waited for my car."

Some Pakistani police have all the subtlety of a shotgun.

Stringent security is perfectly understandable - Pakistan has no margin for error given what's happened in the past. However there's no justification for this overbearing, overofficious behaviour.

Pakistan's early exit, rain, too many one sided matches, and some sparse crowds has meant this tournament hasn't quite clicked yet.

It depicts the pathetic and rotten corrupt system . That guy got vvip ticket but he has not much connections so he was thrown in to general category. I guess it's the same situation for most of the fans through out the tournament. Police officials behavior is the most annoying thing. I don't think in india also police will also behave like that. They will be rude if u r getting ugly otherwise ok.In india getting match ticket for an icc tournament is near impossible but atleast there will allow us as per the ticket
