[PICTURES] Would Azam Khan be a better cricketer if he lost weight?

How can people compare a distinguished batsman like Azam with Anderson...... is Anderson a superstar in PSL, BPL, CPL, Abu Dhabi T10 etc.. etc.. NO he's not.

Anderson's T20 international batting average is just 1, Azam's batting average is nearly 5 times as much!

Batting average of 5 or paratha eating average of 5?

Seriously though, the situation is embarrassing.

There are simple solutions that can be put in place. A minimum bar wether that's in the form of yo-yo tests or BMI index for any player wishing to play first class, PSL etc... then raise that bar if they want to step up to the national side.

This way every youngster hoping to take up cricket as a career knows the minimum fitness he needs to be in, with zero loopholes. It's a simple straightforward process that doesn't need employing imported experts or ex cricketers. Isn't the fitness testing regiment used to get rid of Umar Akmal aka 'water retainer'?

Why take a step back now? Imagine Azam Khan who's a decade younger than Umar is slower than him and plays in the national side. Umar, Sarfraz, Sharjeel are more proven batsmen and fitter than Azam.

Using the policy stated above Azam has no fall back, wherein an unfit Azam cannot play PSL to make a living either. If he's still stubborn after that, then the only cricket he'll be involved with is joining an English county club and be posted at the gates as a guard with a hi-vis on!

Thing is even if Pak give Haris a chance at 6/7 I bet he will outperform Azam. Haris has actual ability and more importantly is interested in playing for Pakistan.
That’s just wasting him and making him a hit or miss type of player when he can clearly maximize the PP . Number 6 is tricky position in t20 . You either fail miserably or win the game. Example is asif Ali he won few games but most of times failed badly couldn’t last more than 6 balls

Azam should really be thinking now about his future because it is not looking very bright for him ATM. Either he learns to outperform everybody with his mediocre fitness and proves everybody wrong or else he should hit the gym and cut some pounds and try to look fitter.

All will be forgotten as he outshines rest of the mediocrity in PSL and make his claim again.

What is the incentive for him to do well? Born with a silver spoon and satisfied with his scores in the carribean league.

For players, to play for his country is the biggest privilege for him if he has some sense. Nothing should be bigger than that.

He should concentrate on his batting. By the time he would lose weight his career would be over.

Let me give an example... you get a new job working for the company that you've always dreamed of working for, in a role which is the best opportunity you would ever get in your career... do you turn up to work looking underdressed and messy, without your computer etc or do you make every effort to excel give the opportunity you have received? Azam Khan should atleast have the intention of improving his fitness rather than making excuses for himself by saying itll reduce his "POWER" Atleast try to come across as a professional athlete.

Let's see how he does in ILT20... I am expecting him to smash it.

Unfortunately, Azam Khan's talent appears to be struggling, as he scored just 9 (8) for Desert Vipers against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in ILT20 2024, getting bowled by Narine.

Azam Khan got run out ofter scoring brisk 35 off 22 deliveries.

This is the reason why fitness is neccessary that he cant even dive to complete the run.

Too many glaring weaknesses if the PCB are thinking of picking him for International games.

Good teams won't keep bowling full to him to be smacked around. And his back foot game isn't high quality at all against proper pace bowlers. Besides he is always prone to getting run out.

Clean striker for pitched up deliveries and good to have in your franchise leagues.

Moin Khan in an interview glorified his weight and eating disorder, he is my son, if he is hungry, how can a father who loves his son deny him food.

When a father is not seriously pushing his son and driving him to think about playing seriously at the international level for Pakistan, why expect any seriousness from Azam?

He has to delusional if he thought he could take that quick single. He continues to shoot himself in the foot.

Russow
Miller
TKC
Klaasen
SKY
Livingstone
Stokes
Stoinis

They are all a different level of middle order T20 specialist. We just don’t produce players of this caliber

He’s really talented. He isn’t some normal talent. You can see it in the way he strikes and his timing. Even compare it to Haris it’s a lot cleaner. Not surprised by these stats as a result.

Havent felt like this about player since Sharjeel. And just like Sharjeel I think he will fail due to fitness (and lack of footwork which comes from fitness). It’s maddening. I was hoping that this guy was overrated but he just isn’t, he has something which most of the rest just don’t have.

And just like Sharjeel players like him annoy me to no end. Realistically he won’t get to required fitness just like Sharjeel didn’t. It’s just too late for people to change habits/diet and they will be too scared of taking short term impact to their performance.

If you are overweight that definitely hampers you in terms of fitness and mobility. That clearly has an effect regarding misfields, running between the wickets, the ability to take catches and more.

If Azam cannot realise that then he should not be picked for Pakistan again.

LOL he has these stats cause he faces average bowlers in leauge cricket.

What did Moin say that is wrong here? I would hunt a lion with my bare hands for my son if that’s the only thing I can do to feed him.
But his son is not dying of hunger bro all he needs to do just control his eating habits and get into the shape.. That's it!

You serious, the guy us obese levels. Its not healthy. It isnt like he is starving?

Moin Khan is dumb.
He even defended the nature of wickets in domestic cricket. Only because his brother is the director of domestic cricket

Should be told, get fit, or you won't play for Pakistan again.

Then lets see how serious he is about cricket.
cricket is a hobby for him. He's earning well from leagues and he knows there's a brainless fanbase and lobby that will keep hyping him up whether he loses weight or not.
The sad thing is he seems like a decent and sensible guy but is stubborn about not changing his living habits.

I am a father and would never support or be proud if my son would look like this. I mean he is only selected playing in Pak team because of Moin Khan.
I’m not going to stand here and watch people belittle the way Moin decides to show love for his son. It’s his business.

I’m (educationally) guessing that Azam was a naturally obese kid that required a lot of food intake as a child and struggled with control. That’s fine, that’s how God made him. We should respect that.

Azam Khan scored 20 runs off 12 deliveries against MI Emirtaes in ILT20 league

Every time he got a good start but couldn't convert it into a big one.

Alex Hales on Azam Khan (from previous game):

"I think he's brilliant. I think he's one of the best hitters, strikers of cricket ball I've played with. He's absolutely brilliant. And his form the last couple of years has been really good. He's a great guy to have in your team. Really nice guy, puts the team first and a hell of a talent."

"He got run out today. But those things happen in cricket. I nearly got run out as well. So it's one of those things. But you can't knock back his ability and talent. The way he hits the ball is second to none. And I think he's got a really bright future and he's a brilliant player."

He has extra time on the ball but needs to utilise it properly.

Was batting so well before he gifted a catch to deep midwicket. Could have hit that ball anywhere he liked!

Azam khan is the cricketer he is because of his weight, loosing it you loose him the big hitter….

Plus in Pakistan you’ll be lucky to get a gastric band on him, you will need a fan belt from a old pia jumbo jet…

No offence intended….

can't he just pump iron and be a big hitter that way?

Losing weight would take years. He would be in middle-age and his career would be almost over in this process.

Bro if he loses weight with dedication so it will hardly take him 6 months to get back into shape.
Leave the boys belly where it is, watching him in the ilt20 dressed in red makes him look like a real life telly tubby…. Now that’s entertainment!

Due to Shadab Khan's poor performances, the Desert Vipers have dropped him, why they just don't drop Azam Khan? What is his benefit for? What are his performances in recent years?

Today for Desert Vipers he went to pavilion with 0(4) against Dubai Capitals in ILT20 2024.

There is no way Azam Khan can reach an appropriate BMI in 6 months without causing serious risk to his long term health.

It would take multiple years of hard work and firm dedication to properly undo the lifetime of damage he has done to himself.

And that doesn’t factor in him having any slip ups on his new lifestyle.

Given Azam Khan has been a professional cricketer for long enough now I think it’s safe to say he doesn’t have it in him.

Getting the Asif Ali treatment from bowlers - short ball or slower ball. He's clueless against both.

Don’t change nothing Azam

These guys who are supposedly on Usain Boult’s level of Fitness can’t do half of what you can being 140kg

It's surprising that Azam Khan won the match for Desert Vipers against Gulf Giants in ILT20 2024. He scored a breathtaking 50*(20)

Well, that's some wholesome performance.

50 off 18 balls

What’s Babar or Rizwan’s fastest 50 playing anywhere?

Baber and rizwan play innnings in conditions and situations and against bowlers Azam khan can only dream off.

Chalk and cheese……
Yeah that’s why they were striking it at 100 in the T20 World Cup in Australia??!

Here are some quotes from a post-match interview of Azam Khan who was the player of the match for his superb innings of 50 runs off 20 balls against Gulf Giants.

“I really enjoyed the game. I always have this belief that I can change the game at any moment. (In this match) I was out in the middle and I knew I could finish the job and I am happy about the win."

“The middle-order is a place where you cannot be consistent all the time. When you hit a purple patch, you tend to perform throughout. But at the end of the day, what is most important for the team is the strike rate. The better the strike rate the better it is for the team."

“This win gives us a lot of happiness and confidence and we will try to perform like this to take the team forward. I will not be available for some of the matches later on, because of my commitment to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) but I think our team is very good, and they are in a great zone. We have had a few defeats but, after today, we have all got a great boost."

“Sustainability is a good cause. We are all aware that global warming is a problem affecting all of us across the world. So, this is a really good initiative from the Desert Vipers. Global warming is happening around the world, and this is an important cause that the Desert Vipers are supporting."

“One of the steps we have taken is to not use plastic bottles on the ground. Instead, we have a water filter which supplies our drinking water (from which we refill our reusable bottles). It is good for the team and for the environment."

“I did find the crowd inspiring, because when the crowds are there, you (feel you) have to perform well and showcase your talents, I was there (batting) till the end and I am happy I managed to finish the game for my team.”

Oh yes that wasn’t because Netherlands beat South Africa
it’s because Pakistan had 6 points, enough for a semi final spot beating NZ then the Final…

Other teams are there in a World Cup to play as well, yes well done for your observation….

Yes you find the crowd & burger joints inspiring, apply your trade in these circus leagues stay away from the national team. Your moins son & a parchi international bowlers won’t ball you floaty off stump half volleys !!

Azam Khan is just a league cricketer. He is playing these leagues for his bread and butter. He is not a Test cricketer, and he hasn't played Test cricket, so for me, he is not a cricketer. And he is not even qualified for Test Cricket. Today he won the game for Desert Vipers, and it happens in T20 cricket. Not a big deal. Trust me after one week or two weeks, none of us will remember this.

But you have to score 50 in less than 18 balls in the ILT20 to forget this effort by Azam Khan.

Out of curiosity, what is the quickest 50s scored by Babar, Rizwan, Iftikhar, Khushdil, Asif Ali, Shan Masood? At any level?

Are you calling it an effort? It was just a fluke. Azam Khan is not a cricketer. Tell me, how much FC cricket has he played? And is he even qualified for Test cricket?

Scoring a faster fifty is not the only cricket. Scoring fifty consistently and with a decent strike rate is also cricket.

Interesting names. Imran Nazir and Asif Ali have hit 17 ball 50s. Impressive

So you are just emphasizing fast fifties. It's fine, it's your priority how you see cricket. I don't see cricket this way.

I’m emphasising his ability to create an impact. Your gonna need that when,

-A top tier side posts 220 against your bowlers in an ICC World Cup match,
-Your openers reach 70-0 in 10 overs whilst responding to it.

So what did Azam Khan do during the T20I series in New Zealand?

And overall, he has played 8 T20Is for Pakistan. You know what? He averages only 4.83 with 29 runs, and his highest score is only 10.

His Sr is not even 100 lol. This is worse than a tailender stats even Chris martin would have managed better.

He scores consistently for his strike rate. Average of 25 SR 145.80 batting at the hardest positions lower/middle order. They are phenomenal stats. I also don’t think it’s so easy to pull off these sort of feats, not everyone can do it. The guy has timing, lots of time, effortless power, hits cleanly. It’s pretty clear through these sort of performances the guy is talented.

He’ll probably fail at international cricket because of his fitness sadly. But I don’t think these performances are flukes. The guy won’t put effort into the longer formats either, he’s happy being a t20 specialist.

Moin’s “love for his son” will earn him only worst since he has actively engaged in him completely disregarding his health let alone his fitness for international sport. If his son was trying to jump off a bridge surely he must allow that as well since no loving father would prevent his son from doing as he wishes! He looks like he has a BMI well in excess of 40, bearing in mind he’s classed as clinically obese after 30.,

Lots and lots of edges that resulted in boundaries in his innings last night. Few good shots as well. But overall, he is just a league player, not suited to internationals.

What’s the fastest 50 scored by the guy who can only hit on the leg side, bats in the powerplay and is ranked No.2 in the world?

Why your needle always stuck at some specific guy? You are not joking right if you are comparing azam with him?
