Pin-drop silence when the opposition does well - and we as fans are supposed to accept that as "that's how it is in India"?

As umpires got their medallions, the indian crowd was booing them.
 
What a bad crowd hardly any clapping or appreciatin when the world champion team players are being announced. Instead some are shouting Kohli Kohli…

You always spoke about the 2015 World Cup being a highlight of your career. But to win a World Cup in India, this stadium, with so many people, and the silence you spoke about as well, can you just take us through that journey today, from getting to the ground to now?

Yeah, I mean I always like to say I'm pretty relaxed but I was a little bit nervous this morning you know just pacing around waiting for it to get started just seeing the sea of blue in the hotel getting nearer the ground and seeing the sea of blue, walking, making its way to the ground, all the cars parked with their selfie cameras out, you kind of knew you were walking into something pretty special. And then to walk out for the toss and just see 130,000 blue Indian shirts, it’s an experience you'll never forget. Awesome day and the good thing was they weren't too noisy for most of it.
 
Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketer and now BJP politician, had in a column earlier in the tournament, wondered if Indian fans "really love this game or we just love Indian superstars and the frenzy around them." He was not enamoured by the Ahmedabad crowd in the India-Pakistan encounter: "It is unthinkable that a society that gave the world the very thought of “Whole World Is A Family” is sounding so parochial." He urged his compatriots "to wear a more neutral outlook if we have to win the Olympic Games bid for 2036." For "any deviation from this can invite a negative mindset towards India as a host for the Games."

When a partisan of the BJP writes such things, it should give us all pause.
 
Despite an entire sea of blue, 99% people in the crowd silent whenever Australia did something right, it felt like it was Australia playing at home in Adelaide and India playing away just going by the players’ body language.

Right from the toss, and I said it during the toss, Cummins was relaxed even though everybody was ragging on him for the wrong decision to bowl first, but he was completely confident.

Same thing in his bowling changes and field sets.

They don’t care if the entire crowd is with them or against them, they will play with the same tenacity, if you know how crass Aussie crowds can be, this was nothing to them.

The damning thing about it not being able to appreciate good cricket. Gambhir is right that Indians care more about India and their superstars than the sport. Showed with the poor attendance to start the tournament. Think the BCCI started letting fans come in for free to avoid more games being played in front of empty stadiums which admittedly was the right thing to do. So kudos for that 👏

They were clapping because still there was 90% chances of india winning. They usually keeps pin drop silence when their team is in verge of a defeat.
 
Indian fans are the worst when it comes to taking a loss sportingly. Read some nasty comments by my fellow Indians on Travis Head's social media profiles. They were targeting his wife and 1 year old daughter just because he helped his team win a final against India. Grow up.

India have no excuse not to come to the champions trophy as it’s a ICC event and a crowd starved of cricket over the past 15 years will make everyone welcome!
 
I think this WC has exposed India on a number of levels.

First of course is the cricket. Now we can all sing and dance about India's batting and bowling, but the fact BCCI were caught rigging pitches casts a doubt on India's true capability and and makes one wonder why did BCCI rig pitches if India is teeming with talent? Moreover, English and Aussie media are reporting on BCCI's pitch rigging too!

Second, how this was not an ICC world cup, but Modi's WC. Again, proven by BCCI antics, the connection between BCCI and GoI (Jay Shah). Opening ceremony on the day of the Pakistan vs India match, the denial of visas for fans (in particular Pakistan), the closing ceremony/presentation was an abomination and 100% planned for an Indian victory (no plan B) and RSS show-boating, coupled with next year's General Elections. Again, reported by Western media. Lets not forget the absence of team India during the presentation!

Finally, the Indian fans. Now I am not referring to a small faction of trouble makers which you will find in every country, but at a grander scale, never have I seen a more hostile and less sporting fans in all my life. I understand hostility towards Pakistan, but towards Australia? Maybe it was just the Gujrat venue, but on social media, the reader does not know where the Indian fan is located so the vile comments towards ALL cricket fans projects a more general perception of Indian fans. This is why, when go to Youtube, search for videos related to yesterday's reaction, including emotional players and fans, all crying, yet most of the comments are relentless and unforgiving from non-Indian fans. You reap what you sow.

Indian fans caught on camera, combined with Indian fans on social media - pre and post WC - and no matter how you look at it, India has come off looking far worse than it was 7 weeks ago, and for the unforeseeable future.

Those are all social media trolls.India is a hugely populated country and there are bound to be some bad elements.
But in general fans are nice and appreciative to other sides.
The silence that we witness in stadiums is more because of disappointment than anything else. There's deep attachment to the game and high expectations from their team

Unfortunately, those 'some bad elements' are huge in numbers. And they are rapidly increasing everyday. The intolerance level of people in India is at its peak. :inti
 
I watched numerous cricket matches with Indian fans in the crowd, not many applaued the opposition even if a great shot or a great ball was bowled. Very nationalistic to the point of not caring watching the sport but only caring for an Indian win.

An Indian UFC fighter fought in Abu Dhabi, their journalists hyped him up in such a huge way, they asked UFC to come to India.. Long story short.... he lost badly... the journalists stopped talking..

It may have peaked but I see that as an aberration because it has nothing to do with Indian history and tradition.
Things should be fine once the majority of India population starts to see through the lies and propaganda of current government.
That is my understanding from whatever I've known or read about India

World Cup 2023 Final: Glenn Maxwell's wife Vini Raman hits back at trolls after Australia's win​

Glenn Maxwell's wife, Vini Raman, has hit out at trolls after Australia's World Cup 2023 final win over India in Ahmedabad on November 19. Australia won their sixth World Cup title after beating India by six wickets.​


Glenn Maxwell's wife Vini Raman has lashed out at trolls after Australia's World Cup 2023 final win over India in Ahmedabad on November 19.

India, batting first, posted a total of 240 runs, thanks to significant contributions from Virat Kohli, who scored 54 runs, and KL Rahul, who added 66 runs to the scoreboard. However, the Australian bowling attack, adept at utilizing the pitch conditions, managed to restrict India's scoring potential.

Australia's response to India's total was initially shaky, as they found themselves at 47/3 during the Powerplay. Nevertheless, a remarkable partnership emerged between Travis Head, who scored a commanding 137 runs, and Marnus Labuschagne, who played a supportive role with a gritty 58 not out. This partnership steered Australia to a comfortable victory by six wickets, with Glenn Maxwell hitting the winning runs.

Maxwell had enjoyed a great campaign as he scored the fastest hundred and double hundred in World Cup history. The Australian all-rounder ended the campaign with 400 runs to his name and six wickets as well.

Maxwell's wife has now taken to Instagram where she posted a series of images and had a message for trolls at end.

"Melbourne - Singapore - Delhi - Dharamsala - Ahmedabad - Mumbai - Pune - Kolkata -Ahmedabad - Singapore - Melbourne."

In the last slide, however, Raman would hit out at trolls who slammed her for supporting Australia despite having roots in India. Maxwell's wife also told them to direct their anger towards more important issues.

Can't believe this needs to be said BUT you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband + father of your plays in #nobrainer.

Social media is a highly toxic place, always has been since the masses latched onto it. The abuse and sad behaviour is par for the course on there, best just to ignore and move on.
 
The ICC has unveiled a shock change in format for the World Cup final following Australia’s upset victory over India, ruling the decider will now be ‘best of three’.

Closer analysis of the tournament’s playing conditions at the request of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed a previously unknown clause determining that, in the event of India losing the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, two more matches would be scheduled for Mumbai and Kolkata to ensure their conquerors were truly worthy of the prize.

It means Australia’s impressive six-wicket win in Ahmedabad will now only secure them a 1-0 lead in the series, with their World Cup trophy and player medals taken off them by ICC officials overnight as they celebrated what they thought was their sixth tournament win.

“Rules are rules, and all teams must abide by what is set in the official playing conditions,” ICC chairman Greg Barclay said in a statement on Monday morning.

“Had umpires and match officials properly adhered to the rules as set out in the official tournament document, last night’s presentation ceremony would not have gone ahead.

“Under the rules, a tournament host losing the final – in this case, India – would have the right to try again in two further follow-up finals, with the trophy to be awarded to the victors of the best-of-three series.

“This rule will remain in place for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia; however, due to there being three teams sharing hosting rights all with a chance of participating in the tournament, the laws state the right of a three-match finals series will be awarded to the host of the previous World Cup, which in this case would be India as well.”

The two matches will replace a five-match T20I series between Australia and India which was set to begin in four days’ time, with that series set to be rescheduled, according to a Cricket Australia spokesperson, to ‘whenever the BCCI tell us it’ll be’.

Ground staff in Mumbai and Kolkata have reportedly already begun preparing pitches for the two follow
up finals, with reports from the Wankhede Stadium that the wicket has been doused in kerosene and set on fire in accordance with the requirement for the second match to be played on, in the exact wording from the official ICC document, a ‘raging Bunsen’.

It is believed Australian captain Pat Cummins and Game 1 player of the match Travis Head are in doubt for Game 2 of the series on Wednesday evening due to crippling hangovers, while David Warner is battling a bruised thumb sustained from an errantly popped champagne cork.

Steve Smith is also facing a disciplinary hearing after reportedly telling ICC officials who came to retrieve the World Cup trophy from the team’s victory celebrations that they would need to ‘take it from my cold dead hands’, which could see him hit with three demerit points and suspended for the remainder of the finals series.

Ridiculous. It will take away the excitement. India had home advantage too. Its like Champions league, yes they can do home away, but when it's the actual final, it's one match.
 
Pat Cummins did what he said. He wanted to silence the 120k-plus crowd sitting in the stadium and he did exactly that. From being at the bottom after losing the first 2 matches and then going on to win the World Cup is something worth acknowledgment.
 
Trolling of Vini Raman? Why? She's Aussie. Just because she is of Indian descent doesn't mean she has to support India, lol. Especially when she's also married to an Aussie :facepalm:
