With Mickey Arthur pulling no punches in his treatment of some of the so called senior players, it seems that player power for now is a dying force in Pakistan cricket.

Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Hafeez and more recently Wahab Riaz have come under the spotlight from Mickey who has not been shy with his comments.

One or two other previously pampered showponys have also had to watch their step and mouth with Mickey around. They have by and large remained silent but sooner or later one can expect an explosion.

Whilst some may not like what Mickey is doing and saying, many feel that this was needed after years of massaging the egos of some players.

The PCB has so far supported Mickey Arthur, but sooner or later they will feel the heat from players complaints and complaints from those in power who are friends and family of unhappy players.

It's a timebomb waiting to explode.....best of luck to all.

It's mostly players who are past it and should be binned anyway.

Basically the players he takes shots at are not influential part of the team now anyway so so far it's not an issue because they have less chance of creating factions

The good fortune for Pakistan is that this is generally a very young team and asides from Sarfaraz, Amir and a couple of others (who are all on board with Mickey) there aren't enough strong personalities to create rifts

However I do admit that this could backfire big time. Arthur has a tendency of not accepting his own failures and instead throwing others under the bus. Results aren't great generally which gives more opportunities for there to be an explosion

I hope not or we might see Shafiq replacing fakhar in odis. The ironic thing is it's to do with all the players which eveyone wants them to be kicked out. I hope for once pcb doesn't get involved and let Mickey get on with it.

Nothing will happen to Mickey as long as the team is performing and winning series after series.

I don't agree with a coach insulting his own players in public. Look at the greatest coaches in history in any sport and you will see them backing their players to the hilt in public. When selectors drop a player, good coaches have an honest one on one with those players and explain to them what needs to be done to gain the confidence of the selectors. After all, coach is the father figure in the team, the one who works with the players on a daily basis.

When a coach airs the dirty laundry in public, it creates an insecurity amongst the younger lot. The Shaheens, Fakhars, Shadabs will think the same coach who's nurtuting them can one day easily flip the switch and go on the offensive in the public.

Arthur can instill as much discipline he wants in the team. It's his team after all. He can demand anything from his players. However, he will be a loser as he was after the home work gate if he loses the confidence of his players.

Mickey is doing an excellent job in a dressing room environment that suits him and his coaching style.

We have no superstars, no big egos that must be attended to at all costs, just a group of generally young and hungry individuals.

That allows you to impose a collective binding philosophy on the dressing room as a unit and really change the culture from the grass roots up.

Mickey would have been an absolute disaster in our team of the 90s with the big characters and egotistical power dynamics in play.

That's not necessarily a shot at him at all, he's proven how effective he can be and what a good job he has done thus far.

He's slowly transforming a team of "has-beens" playing 1970s era cricket into a side with a unique and diverse bowling template and has an ICC tournament to show for his efforts.

We needed a proper headmaster to sort out the dressing room and get us on the track to playing modern limited overs style cricket and Mickey has done just that so far and has shown cause for further optimism.

I think he doesn't get enough credit with this constant negativity of how it's all going to come crashing down.

If he can deliver a few more "flukes" like the Champions Trophy, I'll take it, thank you very much.

Until then, ease off the Greg Chappel parallels as if he's going down the path of a divisive character who will cause imminent implosion.

When I think of great coaches, I think of someone like Greg Popovich from San Antoinio Spurs and he gives it to his players all the time. A coach needs to do what is best for the team and not best for player's ego. About hurting players confidence, that is baloney, if you are a paid athlete it is your job to take the heat when you are not performing and correct yourself.

Well there is a culture of self accountability and insight to one's own deficiencies. This insight seems to be lacking in these bunch of players... Mickey didn't say these statements out himself, he was asked about a player's name and he responded to that.

So Pop benched a player and then announced to the world how terrible his ethic is? There's a difference in what u think I'm saying and what I'm saying here.

We basically have a new Imran Khan, only difference is that he is a coach this time.

Maybe when he retires from coaching, he should be given citizenship as well so he can join politics and fix the country as well! :tuq

For a long time I have heard on PP and other places how the fans wanted a captain/coach who: "would have the guts to call out these seniors by name instead of beating about the bush and making excuses", "Will say something about the seniors who once again did nothing instead of criticizing the juniors" etc.

Now a coach goes ahead and does it people are moaning about hurting the players confidence and what not. I actually find this refreshing. I believe the seniors should be under the pump. It's the youngsters who ought to be backed.

These dropped players weren't worth a damn in any event.

Its not like the Akmals and Hafeezs were winning us series after series like the 2 Ws in the 1990s who had widespread popularity and backing from within the board who'd forgive any and every indiscretion.

Well said. When Arthur took over our limited overs teams were unbalanced, bereft of confidence and playing an outdated brand of cricket. Fitness and fielding standards were atrocious.

However Arthur has been a breath of fresh air in holding the players, especially senior players, to account for failing to reach the required standards whereas previously our management gave these players a free ride. See his treatment of both Akmals, Hafeez, Shehzad and now Wahab Riaz.

However he is not just a disciplinarian, he has also given the youngsters public backing. Yes sometimes he goes over the top but its with good intentions.

Keep waiting. Who's Waqar coaching these days ?

Dont worry he'll probably want the balcony dancer Miandad as our next coach..for a series, then moan and want another one for the next series..rinse and repeat. Some fans on here should just finish their high school before logging into the forum.

Arthur doesnt insult HIS own players. If you know what i mean.

In Tests we are only loosing series after series.

I frankly don't care about Wahab. He does not make a difference.

The real howler is the return of Rahat Ali.

Averages 37 after 20 Tests. 47 in England.

Was last seen eeking out 2 wickets for 130 runs in Australia.

Literally anyone would be better than this joker.

Someone is taking the Mickey, Mickey.

If he/PK wins, they dont have a leg to stand on, but if he loses in Eng and another series he is a gonna. But just as quickly as these guys go, new players will look to have the same privileges.

He is probably safe till Sethi is there. Also Pak will not change a coach just a few months before a major tournament.

BUT after WC 2019 and Sethi's reign things could change for him very quickly.

Mickey is getting rid of te trash and cobwebs of Pakistan cricket. Someone has to.

Wait so we had thread after thread on PP asking for the removal of Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Hafeez. But when there's someone who has the guts to finally call time on their careers, we have posters saying 'Mickey doesn't realize his own failings', 'Mickey's sacking is inevitable' etc.

Chahte kya ho bhai?

You would think so, but you also know as i do that many decisions are made on a whim and a few defeats and he will be gone. The problem with team is twofold: it lacks quality in batting and the bowling lacks both pace and strike power. Amir is very confused as to the type of bowler he is, Hasan is new test cricket and i am very skeptical about Abbas.

Wait until the next general election in Pakistan... if PTI win .... You will see Sethi run with his tail under his legs .... but i do think Micky will not be booted out..... if Sethi does not resign ... he will be sacked,,,

It's good that Mickey is honest. I hope he does tell the players this in private as well. We need to be more harsher with the deadwood and oldies.

Getting rid of Sethi will be seen as a grudge driven revenge approach and nothing else. Sethi has done a lot of good for Pakistan Cricket in the last 5 years and he should be allowed to continue as long as possible.

He has his golden boys.

That’s not because of favouritism though, he really believes that these players can succeed. Unlike certain captain and coaches in the past who selected their favourite players regardless of whether they believe in them or not.

The most important thing he’s doing is that he’s changing the seniority culture in Pakistan cricket. So many cricketers use their seniority to get a place in the side and the team is ultimately hurting because of it.

It looks like Mickey is finally changing this and that is why he is very valuable to us.

Not a fan of some of Mickey's tactical decisions (some poor decisions with Karchi Kings too) but applaud him for his honesty and doing his bit to get rid of player power. Good luck Mickey :)
