Just for fun :

PAKISTAN:

Imam = 6. Looked OK in 2nd innings. But gave him 6 purely for his dynamic fielding - he saved several runs.

Azhar = 7. A solid first innings in difficult conditions set the tone for Pakistan's impressive total.

Haris = 7. Looked a class act in both innings. Solid and has all the shots. Natural timer of the ball.

Babar = 7. Excellent innings. Looks to be settling down as a class test player - two successive crucial knocks. So unlucky to be injured.

Asad= 7. Amazed that PPers don't rate him. Tends to be inconsistent sadly. However, he is technically excellent and is a top class player. Two consecutive crucial knocks like Babar.

Sarfraz. 2 for batting - crazy shot. 8 for captaincy and keeping. Stick with him - his form will return.

Shadab 7. Magnificent test match. Crucial 50, fielded well and bowled acceptably - 2 crucial wickets. His bowling will improve. Shouldn't have been bowled in the 1st innings however. Provided lower order batting power.

Faheem. 7. Solid test. Crucial runs and contributed with the ball by taking a wicket and letting the 3 main pacers rest. Provides crucial balance to the team.

Amir. 8. Bowled magnificently. The balls to Cook and Bairstow were Wasim Akramesque. Looks to be back to his best.

Hasan. 7.5. Key part of the pace trio. Bowled with pace and energy and wit. 4 crucial wickets in the 1st innings. Clever bowler. Which genius decided Rahat should play in the Ireland test ahead of Hasan? Mind Bogglingly stupid selection.

Abbas. 9. MOM. Fantastic effort. He is Asif mark 2 Insha-Allah. No higher praise then that.

ENGLAND :

Cook 7. Only guy to stand up to Pakistan - was undone by a Wasim Akramesque delivery from Amir in 1st inns and another special delivery from Abbas in the 2nd.

Stoneman. 1. If he's a test player, I'll eat my topi.

Root. 6. Batted OK for his 68 but yet again failed to convert. Rubbish captaincy. Memo to Root : You can't skipper your side wearing a helmet fielding on your knees at silly point. What's that about? It's like the Queen going to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

Malan : 2. See Stoneman.

Bairstow: 4. A poor test. But he's a good player. A danger at Headingley in his home test.

Stokes : 6.5 His 30 odd and 3 wickets deserve over 6. A dangerous player. He will be better at Headingley.

Buttler 7 : Solid knock - dangerous player.

Bess - 7 for his batting. 1 for his bowling. Won't make it as a bowler at test level.

Wood - 3. Tried hard but has no tricks other then pace. Pace without guile and direction is not enough. Woakes will replace him.

Broad 3. Was awful with the bat and looked distinctly average with the ball. He actually bowled faster then in previous years - maybe this stopped him swinging the ball?

Anderson 5. Was OK. Nothing special. Completely outbowled by tha Pak seamers.

PAKISTAN:

Imam = 6. Same as OP

Azhar = 6.5. Good knock by him in the first innings.

Haris = 8. Was involved with some crucial partnerships. One point extra for his straight drive :harissohail

Babar = 8. Batted beautifully in both innings. Was unlucky to get injured.

Asad= 7 . Chipped in with some important runs. Still expect better from him.

Sarfraz= 7.5. Awful batting perfomance.
Top notch captaincy and wicket-keeping.

Shadab= 8 . Excellent performance by the lad.
Got a very very very good fifty, which extended our lead. Bowled okay, in the first innings, but in the second innings he bowled great.

Faheem= 7.5. Excellent test for him. Batted very nice in the first innings. Bowled an absolute "jaffa" to get Bairstow out.

Amir= 7.5. Bowled okay, but not to his potential. He needs to pitch it up and doesn't need to waste the new ball with his ODI length.
However, the wickets were beautifully executed.(half point added because of the wickets).

Hasan= 7. Bowled like Waqar in the first innings. But in the second innings he looked out of shape. Seems like he needs more experience in Tests.

Abbas= 9.5. We have found a gem!
Unlucky that he couldnt get a 5-er!
Bowled like an ATG.

:salute

Imam ul Haq - 5 - Played well in the 2nd inning
Azhar Ali - 6 - Crucial 1st inning knock, poor fielding and 2nd inning knock
Haris Sohail - 7 - Played well in both innings, although I want to see him score in 3 figures.
Asad Shafiq - 9 - Excellent game, got a good ball to get out and caught great catches.
Babar Azam - 10 - Can't really say anything about a player who didn't manage to complete his inning
Sarfraz Ahmed - 7 - His batting is concerning, worked hard on his keeping though
Shadab Khan - 7 - Excellent batting, excellent fielding, bowled well in the 2nd inning
Faheem Ashraf - 6 - Batted well, needs to work on his bowling
Muhammad Amir - 7 - Excellent in the 2nd inning. Average in the 1st.
Hassan Ali - 7 - Opposite to Amir. Wicketless in the 2nd inning
Muhammad Abbas - 10 - Excellent throughout the game

Nobody deserves above a 6 for England, most of them 2 or 3 out of 10.

*@babar batted beautifully in the first innings.

ENG were in shambles and Cook deserves a 5 for his 50 in the first innings and Root a 4 for another 50 and brain fade captaincy. (Been in favor of removing him from captaincy a long time back).

Now on to PAK:

Imam: 5 (Got out cheap in the 1st innings which could have deduced yet another top-order collapse but looked more assured in the second innings).

Azhar: 6.5 (Scored a 50 in the 1st and failed in the 2nd innings, AGAIN. Needs to sort out the mental block he has in chasing any target).

Haris Sohail: 7 (Failed to convert a good start in the 1st innings but showed all class in the 2nd innings. Needs to improve fitness and lethargic fielding).

Shafiq: 7.5 (Gets an extra .5 because he did not bat in the second innings and did his job steadying the ship with a 50 in th first while taking a blinder to get rid of Butler. Looked ensured and confident which cannot be said often of him at the crease).

Babar: 6.5 (Highest scorer and showed intent after being dropped. If going into ODI mode is his modus operandi in Tests than let it be because it works for him).

Sarfraz: 5 (His keeping was the best it’s been in a while and held onto all catches that came to him. Captained suberply except for the last session on Day 3 when he was uber-defensive with a 65 run lead. Batting form continues to decline with rash shot selection and uncontrolled impulses).

Shadab: 7 (Batted well to get to his 2nd 50 in 2 Tests and bowled relatively well in the second innings. Needs to not be so impatient and learn to work out batsman before he game starts).

Fahim: 6.5 (Again, batted well in that 72 run partnership with his fellow all-rounder when we were only 62 ahead with 6 wickets down. Bowled good without being great but generally kept control. Needs to improve over-rate.)

Amir: 7 (Took the most important wicket of the 1st innings and a time when Cook was starting to get going. Took 4-36 in the second so kudos but he needs to start taking notes from Abbas on the lengh to bowl with the new ball. Gets an extra .5 because of his unbeaten 24* with the bat.

Hasan: 6.5 (Took out England’s top-order mainstays of Root and Malan in the space of 3 balls. 4-51 in the first innings was good support for Abbas but his second innings showed lack of strength and stamina. Went for 0-58 due to fatigue and short-pitched bowling tactics.

Abbas: 9.5 (The STAR performer of the match. 4-23 including one of the openers and than 4-41 including ENG’s two best bats (Cooky and Root). Bowled the ideal length and was economical throughout. Misses out on the Perfect 10 because he did not pick up a 5-fer’ in either innings which is a good problem to have).

Best test performance I’ve seen in a long time. It was a real team effort, everyone done a job with either bat, bowl or fielding. Very hard to differentiate between them but if I had to I’d give Abbas 10 and the rest 9.5.

Why 6.5 Babar?
7 surely?
Crucial unbeaten knock?
What else could he do?

He was dropped early on 10 I believe.

And retired hurt (to no fault of his own except not wearing an elbow pad) and did not take the opportunity to make a century.

It's funny though it was a good and comfortable win hardly anyone excelled. I thought most of our players were merely good. Think the only player who truly excelled was Abbas. Hasan did brilliantly first innings, not too great second innings and Amir was the reverse. Even Babar's innings although good and was the best out of the Pak batsman was still just a half century (though he did get injured) after a drop. Maybe you could give a high rating to Shadab given he was a spinner and not expected to perform but he still did decent and contributed with the bat. But even then probably wouldn't give Shadab more than an 8 and that's more to do with the fact it was unfavourable conditions for him.

I think we have potential to do a lot better than the 1st test at Lords even though we played adequately for the win.

Lol.....that's ruthless!

It's not his fault he got injured. The catch was hard. Scored 58 after that.
