"Players will always try and play in other leagues but it is up to the PCB to stop them" : M Yousuf

Mohammad Yousuf speaking on TV:

"It is unfortunate that our board has allowed players to play in outside leagues when our National T20 Cup and QEA Trophy are both in progress"

"Players will always try and play in other leagues but it is upto the PCB to stop them"

"They can deny them the NOC as they will only play in outside leagues when they get the NOC"

"All we hear is that our improvement in cricket is due to the PSL so it seems that no one is paying any attention to other forms of domestic cricket"

"Players should give up their central contracts if they wish to play in outside leagues during time our national comps are taking place"

"We are using three different balls for three formats in domestic comps - so we cant even standardize the balls?"

"We are far behind in ODs and Tests, in T20Is we have come up in rankings and even that because other teams have lost etc"

Completely agree. Our fans' heads are in the clouds these days, but the reality will sink in eventually.

More quotes from Yousuf after the U19 team's loss in the Asia Cup final:

"Most players that Pakistan gets in their senior teams are a product of the U19 system and not directly from FC"

"The U19 players form the basis of our cricket teams; we have Virat Kohli and Saqlain Mushtaq as good examples also"

"This is the base for our future teams, India had Rahul Dravid associated with their U19 team"

"U19s are the raw material for future senior teams and the more you put better coaches in charge of these youngsters, the better it will be for us"

"Its unfortunate that out senior players are more interested in sticking with the senior teams"

"Also the PCB has not appointed a senior player who has done well in his time to look after U19s"

"You dont really have a very good batsman in the senior team who is capable of taking the team out of trouble when needed"

"So we have a big issue with batting but we are unable to pick and develop good batsmen at the U19 level with an eye for the future"

"Yes we can still lose but get the best coaches for the U19 teams"

Yousuf should be working with the U19 batsmen- they could learn a lot from him.

I'm pretty sure no one knows that better than him. :yk

Didn't Yousuf play in the infamous "ICL"

height of irony. Think it is lost on him though.

I believe MoYo only played in the ICL and that too for only one season - he did not play in the IPL or any of the other leagues during his time.

TBH no other league would take him, he was never a T20 player. He played in ICL because it was a rogue league who took any kind of international player.

Yes, and he wrecked his career doing stuff like that unfortunately. Massive ego issues after his golden run in 2007. He was dropped from the T20 side by Malik (which was the wrong move, although his replacement Misbah almost won us the tourney) and then like a petulant child decided to sign up for ICL to put pressure on PCB...

If he had just got his head down, would've saved us from a lot of player power based fiascos from Inzi's retirement to the time when Misbah finally took over.. So, even if it was only one season, he deliberately sought to hurt PCB (and therefore Pak cricket) to nurture his own ego.

2006, actually.

I believe it was Razzaq who was dropped in favor of Misbah.

I don’t think MoYo was ever in contention for the inaugural WorldT20 - as far as I know he has only ever played one T20 (the first one back in 2006) so he was never a T20 player.

He first went to the ICL in protest at being dropped from the World T20. I don't know who was dropped for whom, but Misbah, a specialist bat came into the side, and Yousuf, a specialist bat was dropped, and he was not happy about it.

Point is that his drama, hunger for more money and ego damaged Pak cricket in those years. Clearly he was also very heavily involved in politicizing the team environment in that period.

The worst part is that he had just completed the best ever season by a batsman in history. I think the record still stands maybe(?) So that means he REALLY robbed Pakistan of his own talent and experience post-Inzi, a fraught and dismal period for Pak cricket.

This kind of sentiment demands huge respect!

The National T20 level takes a huge dip without your best 10-15 cricketers. The player are somewhat excused as it's not the premier T20 competition of Pakistan since the PSL exists. However the best players must be available for one day tournament.

Players have a right to earn a living and the difference in earnings between the BPL and the low quality, poorly attended T20 at home is huge.

Can't blame the players it's PCB who is at fault here for scheduling the National T20 Cup during BPL etc.

Also, some ex players would not have turned their back on these leagues, yet are criticising current players.

All players must play domestic cricket then they will be allowed to play other leagues. Their first priority must be Pakistan.

Respect!

But they are helping even when they are not playing domestic cricket. A % of their paycheck from playing these leagues goes to PCB as part of issuing a NOC.
