Suryakumar Yadav speaking during the India vs Pakistan pre-match press conference:

On Oman's Performance and India's Batting

“They played a really good brand of cricket. I mentioned this in the post-match also; they batted really well. There was a little bit of dew, but that's not an excuse—they just batted very well. From our point of view, our batters didn't get a lot of game time. Guys like Sanju, Hardik, Axar, Dubey, and even Tilak, against Pakistan, didn't get a lot of time at the crease. Arshdeep and Harshit can also bat, so we wanted to see how they would handle the last three or four overs. When one or two overs were left, Arshdeep said he wanted to go in to bat, and I said that was no problem; it was completely fine. But whether I bat or not, winning the game is more important, and that's what we focused on.”

On Playing Pakistan Twice and "Outside Noise"

“I feel our preparations have been really good leading into this tournament. We had three good games, and we are focusing on what we can do best. As I said at the toss, we want to follow all the good habits we've been practicing in the last couple of games. We will take it one game at a time. Playing them once and having a good game doesn't give us an edge. We'll have to start well from scratch, and the team that plays better will win.”

About how to shut out the outside noise:

“The best way is to close your room, switch off your phone, and sleep. It's easy to say, but sometimes it's difficult because you meet friends, you go out for dinner, and a lot of players also like to see all these things. It's on you what you want to listen to and what you want to have in your mind before a practice session or a game. I have been very clear with all the boys: it's important to shut out a lot of noise from the outside. You don't have to shut it out completely, but take what is good for you. Someone can give you good advice that can help you on the ground, so that's very important. I feel everyone is in a good space.”

On the India-Pakistan Rivalry

“I don't know what rivalry you're talking about. When I go to the ground and the stadium is full, I tell my team that it's time for entertainment. So many people have come to watch the match, so you have to entertain everyone by playing a good brand of cricket. We don't think much about it. We have played three games, and we enjoyed winning all three. Every game is a new challenge that we take in our stride. We win, learn from it, and try to do the same in the next game.”

On Pitch Conditions and the Toss Factor

“I don't think there was much difference in the toss. Here in Dubai, it was a little humid, and conditions got a little better in the second half. But I feel the wicket doesn't change much over 40 overs, and there wasn't a lot of dew. So, the team that plays both phases—batting and bowling—well, will be in a good position. The conditions were similar in both innings and were really good for 40 overs.”

On Player Preparation and Recovery

“The practice session is where you try to get ready for the game. You can't match the intensity of the game in practice, but you can get close with running, fielding, and batting sessions. Hydration is one of the main things that our sports science team is paying attention to, and recovery is also very important. At this level, you are so professional that you don't need to be told how to prepare for a match. When we play in India or the IPL, we also play 3 or 4 p.m. matches. I think it's similar here, with the plus point that you're playing in the evening. Everyone has their own preparation, and I haven't seen many cramps so far, so I think they are preparing themselves really well.”

About Jasprit Bumrah

“He did bowl a lot in the nets yesterday, that's his routine. Whether he's playing or not, he likes to come to the ground and bowl around 8 to 10 overs. Today, also, in the warm-up, he was almost pumped up; it felt like he was playing the game. I had to tell him that he was resting today. But his preparations are spot on, irrespective of whether he's playing or not. That's one thing that makes his preparation different, and I feel he's always ready to play.

On Playing for India

“The best match for me was when I played the first game for India. After that, every match I've played for India, whenever I've taken the field wearing the jersey, it's always been a proud moment for me. And even when I step on the ground, I am always excited and proud to be part of this wonderful campaign. Whenever I get the opportunity, I will always be proud. If you've seen, I always keep my eyes closed during the national anthem. I keep thinking about it, and I keep thanking God that he keeps giving me the opportunity to play as long as I can. I am very happy about that.”

Maybe he is saying this after what Oman did to them. Won't take any team lightly afterwards.

In the 2018 Asia Cup , Hong Kong gave a similar or even better performance against India when we played with less than half intensity.

And yet, we continued to trample Pakistan twice and won the tournament comfortably. You guys are really reaching..

Its funny watching their statementd on the rivalry right now, and than 5 years later after retirement they start boosting about the rivalry.

Going by the Presser, it appears he and indian team are preparing well. Playing in hot humid conditions does take a toll out of oneself. It's good he has said its like starting again , previous match was history. Too many indian media/posters have gone overboard with the tom toming, drum beating.
I feel match will be tough given the background....Hope india keep the focus and intensity.

If Pak win - It will be celebration explosion, every indian poster would be tagged here :)...

Conditions have already played an equalizer role. Only thing is what you get out of this tournament is the most important. Only takeaway for India is "Gill doesn't belong to T20 set up". INdia has a bit of time to correct this horrible mistake. Hope better sense prevails.

I don't follow IPL much, but I read the stats somewhere that he scored run at 52 avg with SR of around 157. How come he doesn't belong to T20I?

Jaiswal have much better stats at international level.he has better sr too .for first 10 balls his sr is 170 odd. Both gill , sai sudarshan play for Gujarat in ipl . they are top heavy side to perfectly use the excuse of stat padding on Ahmedabad pitch.

Good comments. Just because we beat them comfortably once does not mean it'll happen easily every time.

Also downplayed the rivalry which was good to see.

Have you seen other guys? They are way more destructive than GIll who is now an established Test player. So him trying to be aggressive will more often result in failuer.

Not following cricket lately but I believe BCCI wanted atleast one accumulator in the playing 11 and gill is probably the best fit for this role. Surely not the best T20I batman considering the Indian bench strength but he does know how to do the job.

Every indian poster who has made an appearance in the histroy of PP will be tagged :)
For winning one match? Isn’t that minnow mentality. Pakistan is fully capable of beating, heck every team in Asia cup is fully capable of beating India. I just don’t think they can beat India consistently. Now if Pak wins a T20 World Cup in India and beats India, that would be a great achievement and noteworthy enough to tag every Indian poster. Otherwise Pak is aiming too low and satisfied with beating India once in a while instead of becoming a champion side

Fair point.
But thats the kind of bigger picture that we would see.
For Pak fans, given this situation, scenario - a win here - the internet will burn/melt. It will be a social media quake.
Hoping our guys keep focus and intensity, decision making is spot on - for the rest their skills sets should see them through.

IT is not just the situation. For Pakistan, it is an undeniably big achievement, even though this format is unpredictable because of its rarity. I still remember Pakistanis making a T-shirt out of 152/0, wearing it for every match they got thrashed afterwards. They still cannot help bringing that up during every banter exchange. India stopped considering beating Pakistan an achievement. It is more a relief for INdian fans than joy. Nobody went overboard after India's win in the first round.

Who has?

It's Pakistanis who keep on blabbing "back in our day".

The 2010 onwards generation who have started retiring say nothing about Pakistan. They have never played tests against Pakistan even. Their reminiscing is all Australia/England.

SKY is right..... In T20 margin for error is too narrow and any side on a given day can beat any team.

But I m confident on Pakistan is loosing this match

I honestly believe Pak is fully capable of upsetting India. But it is unlikely to happen twice in row. So best best for Pak to win the Asia cup is do well tomorrow even if they lose it and win big matches against Sl and BD and upset India in the finals if they reach there. In the finals I will give any team 50% chance of beating anyone else in a t20 game

Best of luck

Indian team is not as good as hyped
just get abhsihek sharma and another wicket early on watch them struggle
there is no kohli in the team
True India and Oman are almost same level as was proven in the last match.

I am expecting Pakistan to thrash this low quality Indian team with no mercy.

Records are going to get broken today. I fear for sky and the others safety in India after this hammering.

T20 is a game of small margins. You never know when things can change for you.. But I think Pakistan has almost no chance to win today as well.

Not sure why Pakistani fans are talking big and holding out a hope. I guess this is natural for people to have that little bit of hope even when the chances of favourable outcomes are low.

Pakistan is not winning this match or rest of the games against india if they even make it to the final.

There’s no batting ability or bowling prowess. You are barely winning against minnows. Can’t expect players with zero class or quality to suddenly turn up. You can fluke a win with a weak team that can punch above its weight but Pakistan team is just too weak in all aspects of the game. Batting, bowling, fielding and planning. Pakistan is never winning against India until they have at least 4,5 solid reliable batsmen scoring runs consistently and bowlers that can bowl intelligently.

Pakistan did way better against Oman than india, won by 93 runs compared to India's 21 runs.

So much for barely winning against minnows.

Different pitch, different game. India didn’t take Oman seriously until probably the last 5 overs of the game.

With India’s main bowlers, they were not making anything close to 100.

Haris is more of a sami zayn lol :afridi
Im just messing with @BouncerGuy . This started as a joke but ironically im now into it.

Haris has been the 2nd best batsmen for Pakistan this tournament after Fakhar Zaman Ironically. Even then fakhar and haris aren't that far apart in no, Fakhar is only 3 runs ahead with a slightly higher avg and lower sr atm.
