Prime Minister Imran Khan offered on Thursday to help India and share the government's successful cash transfer program at a time when households in India are coping with lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic.

In a tweet, PM quoted a study which found that 34% of households across India will not be able to survive for more than a week without assistance. The study was titled 'How Are Indian Households Coping Under the Covid-19 Lockdown? 8 Key Findings'.

It was carried out by experts at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago and the Mumbai-based Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy.

The PM said he was ready to help India and share Pakistan's cash transfer program which is lauded internationally for its transparency.

This guy really is the Donald Trump of Pakistan. So oblivious to what's going on and stuck in a tiny world of his own

Can’t take care of his own country but will help India.

He is the master of “lambi lambi chorna”.

The Trump of the East.

In a sharp reply to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s offer to help with the cash transfer technology to aid the poor during the coronavirus pandemic, India reminded its neighbour that the size of the economic relief package extended by New Delhi to its citizens during the pandemic is as large as Pakistan’s GDP.

An official statement from the ministry of external affairs on Thursday also reminded Islamabad that Pakistan had a “debt problem covering 90% of the country’s GDP”.

“Pakistan would do well to recall that they have a debt problem which covers 90% of their GDP. As far as India goes, our stimulus package is as large as the GDP of Pakistan,” said Anurag Srivastava, spokesperson for the foreign affairs ministry.

Imran Khan had earlier today tweeted a news report published in an Indian daily highlighting the suffering of a section amongst the poor in India due to the economic challenges posed by the Covid outbreak, and he claimed that his government was willing to help with its “successful cash transfer programme”, which he boasted was recognised internationally.

“Acc to this report, 34% of households across India will not be able to survive for more than a week without add (sic) assistance. I am ready to offer help & share our successful cash transfer prog, lauded internationally for its reach & transparency, with India,” Pak PM Imran Khan had tweeted.

Khan went on to claim that his government had transferred a total of Rs 120 billion to over 10 million families in a “transparent” manner to deal with the cash crunch faced by the poor due to the pandemic outbreak.

“Our govt successfully transferred Rs. 120 billion in 9 weeks to over 10 million families in a transparent manner to deal with the COVID19 fallout on the poor,” he added.

India on the other hand had announced an economic assistance package worth over Rs 20,000 crore which is 10% of India’s GDP to assist businesses and individuals in mitigating the hardship resulting from the economic impact of coronavirus induced lockdown.

Pathetic stuff, even a well intended message with the purpose of humanitarian help has done nothing but to invite an insult from the neighboring country

This part is bakwaas; not even worth a Nirmala Sitharaman bindi.

Clearly, IK thinks that Pakistan is dealing the virus situation drastically better than India and offering to help to share how he is doing it in Pakistan. In year or so, it will be proven if IK's claim is true and if his claim is true then Indian will regret not following his advice on how to deal with virus situation. Not only Indians, many other countries will regret not following Pakistan's model of dealing with virus if Pakistan is doing a better job than most countries.

Not necessarily the virus, but the welfare part of it. Looking at the migrant situation, I wouldn't disagree.

But, this was a bit pointless. Don't know what the end game is :29:

No government genuinely offering help to another government would tweet about it. It's obvious IK is baiting India here. Poor move when you're attempting to stabilize relations with this country.

We feel for the hundreds of millions of poor in India specially the migrant workers who have been left to fed for themselves by chaiwala government, but honestly IK should stop talking about India so much.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reacted sharply to India's unfriendly response to Prime Minister Imran Khan's offer to help India out of its COVID-19 pandemic crisis by sharing details of the Ehsaas Emergency Cash programme.

According to a Radio Pakistan, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said the remarks from the Indian External Affairs Ministry reflect poorly on a serious issue affecting the lives of millions of poor people in the sub-continent.

“Prime Minister's suggestion was in the backdrop of a study by a reputable U.S. University that highlighted the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on Indian households especially the poorest sections of the society and effectiveness of direct cash transfers and food to the poor families affected by lockdowns,” she said.

Farooqui added that international organizations have lauded the positive impact of the government’s direct cash transfer under the Ehsaas programme.

She said that the global pandemic is a common challenge and requires serious efforts of national experience as opposed to political point-scoring.

The Indian MEA had given an unfriendly response to PM Imran’s offer, saying that the Indian economic relief package by New Delhi to its citizens in the pandemic is as big as Pakistan’s GDP.

PM Imran had offered help to neighbouring India to help it overcome the coronavirus crisis, saying he was willing to share Pakistan’s successful cash transfer programme.

Sharing a news report claiming that 34% of household across India ‘will not be able to survive more than a week without add (additional) assistance’', the prime minister had tweeted, “I am ready to offer help and share our successful cash transfer prog, lauded internationally for its reach and transparency, with India”.

As they say in Pashto, don’t scratch the place which is not itching.

Imran fully deserved this savage reply.

As much as I like IK after how he humiliated Indian aggression during Pulwama, I think he has been caught out here trying to unnecessarily take the p***.

Pak and India just need to go their own ways and continue this Cold War.

The end game for PM Imran is to keep the morale of the awaam up. Good on him too, if this is all it takes to keep the countrymen amused and distracted.

Being a sad troll on twitter means his countrymen don't question him on Pakistan is the only country in the region to not have a mid-day meal scheme for its poorest children.

Or why karachi is the only megacity with no mass transit system in place.

Or why India's poorest state, Bihar, has a budget well over twice the size of Pakistan's richest state, Punjab.

Or why Bihar spends *more* on health and education as the *whole* of Pakistan.

That's why it is always advisable to not bark about things you don't know about. Stop watching Republic TV bhakht. Bihar allocated INR 352b for education.

These are the allocations for Pakistan from last budget, this years (FY21) budget allocation is yet to be announced by the provinces:

Imran ko apni be-izzati karanay ka khud hi shoq hai.
He has proven himself to be a loose Canon without any logical thought process, eloquence or intellect.

Even a paindu like Panama Sharif was better than him.

My heart breaks to inform Syed1 that Indian currency isn't the same value as pkr. It's well over twice as valuable.

Bihar's revised budgetary estimate was INR 385b, well over the initial budgetary estimate of INR 352b. On top of that, Bihar's education spend also includes it's rated share in the central government's edu expenditure. About 9 percent of USD 14 billion. At today's exchange rate, the cumulative total comes to USD 6.3x

Now I'd refer you to the economic survey your government released, page 22, where you can find the total federal and provincial spend on edu in pakistan - PKR 868b. Or about USD 5.3B going by today's exchange rate.

Bihar ahead by a full Billion USD with half the population and being the poorest state in India.

I know it’s for show but how naive can you be or expect others to be?

Not sure what exactly the offer is?

Is it how to set up kiosks where the poor can come and receive a cash handout? Is it software for keeping track of who received what? I would think these are things the Indian civil service is well equipped to implement.

In other news, the virus is accelerating in both Pakistan and India, with the number of new infections yesterday being 6,397 and 11,320 respectively.

IK needs to get over his obsession with India in general and Modi in particular and try to save his own country.

The biggest own goal Imran has scored so far. He will not forget this self-inflicted humiliation for a while.

“Aa bail mujhay maar”

One can imagine the reaction of PTI cult-followers if Nawaz was PM and would have made this offer. He would be bashed like no tomorrow.

I've said this before too that it's just bizarre as is what is IK's obsession with India?

You're the PM of Pakistan, let's work in making the country a better country and do what it takes for the people of Pakistan.

He really needs to sort out the country and then maybe speak about India and the issues between the 2 countries.

You mean the guy that couldn't speak up against an Ind spy caught red handed in Balochistan
