LAHORE (Dunya News) – British Broadcasting Corporation has claimed on Thursday in a report that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had taken Chief of the Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa in confidence over meeting with Indian tycoon, Jindal.

The report asserts that the civil leadership has branded informal meeting with the business tycoon who has close terms with Indian premier Narendra Modi, backchannel diplomacy to diffuse tensions with the neighbouring country.

According to BBC, Jindal called on PM Nawaz with backing of top Indian authorities.

Reportedly, the army chief had taken army officials in confidence over the meeting that came as backchannel diplomacy.

However, it should be mentioned here that issue pertaining to Indian spy, Kulbhushan Jadhav would not be a subject of discussion at any level, the army has cleared.

On April 28, it was reported that the Indian businessman held a covert sitting with incumbent Prime Minister of Pakistan in Murree.

Details obtained by Dunya News revealed that a 10-day business category visa was issued to Sajjan Jindal on April 25 by Pakistani embassy in New Delhi.

The visas issued to the Indian delegation exempted the Indian nationals of police reporting in Pakistan.

No discussion between PM, COAS on Jindal's Pakistan visit: Info Minister

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb has rejected reports that recent visit of Indian entrepreneur Sajjan Jindal came under discussion during a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

In a statement, the minister said Sajjan Jindal is friend of the prime minister and he met him in his personal capacity.

Earlier on Thursday, reports were circulating that the civilian leadership informed the Army officials that meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Indian steel tycoon Sajjan Jindal was "a part of a back-channel diplomacy".

It was further reported that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, during one of his recent meetings with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa, had taken the latter into confidence over Jindal’s visit to Pakistan.

Jindal, along with other businessmen, visited Pakistan in April this year to meet Sharif in Murree.

The meeting came at a time when the two neighbouring nations were going through turbulent times.
