The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has sought to allay fears of security threat to the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies even as the Caribbean islands have received terror alerts to the global event from North Pakistan.

"We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event," Jonny Graves, the CEO of the CWI told Cricbuzz on Sunday evening.

The security alert states that, "Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries."

The Caribbean media reported that the authorities are tracking potential threats to the World Cup. "We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," Graves further told this website.

The Twenty20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the US from June 1 to 29.

A report in Trinidad's Daily Express quoted that island's Prime Minister Keith Rowley as saying that the Caricom and security agencies are working to combat the threat to the World Cup. It has been further reported that the Barbados regional security officials are monitoring potential threats to the ICC event.

It has been reported that intelligence of a potential threat to the World Cup has been received through Pro-Islamic State (Daesh) through the media group "Nashir Pakistan". According to Daily Express, Nashir-e Pakistan is an Islamic State group-affiliated propaganda channel.

In the West Indies, the World Cup matches will be held in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago. There are matches in the US cities of Florida, New York and Texas too but there is no indication of any threat to the games in the USA. The two semifinals will be played in Trinidad and Guyana with the final slated for Barbados.

When contacted, the ICC said its statement is the same as that of the CWI's

Threat probably came from the same source that tried to disrupt New Zealand’s trip to Pakistan. Agenda is to cast doubt about Pakistan and its ability to hold the Champions Cup in 2025.

Expect more similar shenanigans.

How does IS plan on travelling to the Caribbean?

Either take a cruise ship, speed boat or a dingy.

How do you get your weapons on a cruise ship?

How many can you take on a speed boat?

@charlie007 have a look

Stupid allegation... clearly a ploy to sabotage Pakistan's hosting of the Champions Trophy.

The only security threat from Northern Pakistan during the WC will be Chacha when he hits his trademark massive sixes.

The stuff detailed in the article is just nonsense.

ICC official reacts to terror threat, says 'a comprehensive security plan is in place' for T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is collaborating closely with the host countries of the Men's T20 World Cup, the West Indies and the USA, to ensure that appropriate security measures are in place following reports of a terror threat to the event.

"ICC is working closely with the host countries to ensure appropriate plans are in place. We immediately spoke to the authorities as the reports emerged, and the Cricket West Indies has assured everyone that a comprehensive security plan is in place to address any risk," an ICC official stated.

Trinidad & Tobago's Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, emphasized that security agencies are working diligently to combat any potential threats to the tournament.

He acknowledged the ever-present danger of terrorism in the 21st century and the need for nations to make extra efforts in security preparations and response readiness when hosting large or vulnerable gatherings.

"Given the fact that bad actors can choose to misbehave in any way possible it makes it virtually impossible to completely seal off all opportunities. However, in order to ameliorate these dangers, we at the local and regional levels have remained alert to many threats and singularly or together have our intelligence and other security agencies working to protect the population in countries and at venues throughout the tournament," said Rowley.

The T20 World Cup will be hosted across various venues in the Caribbean, including Kensington Oval in Barbados, Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, Providence Stadium in Guyana, Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, Darren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia, and Arnos Vale Stadium in St Vincent. In the USA, matches will be held at Eisenhower Park in New York, Broward County in Lauderhill, Florida, and Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

The tournament will feature 20 teams divided into four groups of five each for the first round, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Eight stage. The Super Eight will consist of two groups of four teams, with the top two sides from each group progressing to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals will be held in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago on June 26 and 27, respectively, with the final taking place in Barbados on June 29. Reserve days are in place for both the semi-finals and the final.

Yeah, I read it. If a terrorist organization threatened the event and a reporter asked BCCI for their take on the situation and they said it’s up to the organizers and ICC security and they will look for government guidance if anything changes, where does Pakistan or Champions Trophy come in?

Seriously it looks more like a propaganda to sabotage Champions Trophy 2025 preparations.

Where is the champions trophy mentioned in the article?
Can't you really imagine what the impact on Pakistan cricket would be if these threats were somehow linked to Pakistan?

There is not a rocket science to understand the agenda behind this allegation.

Except for some gullible fans everyone knows that champions trophy eventually would be moved away from Pakistan. Pakistan isn’t secure enough to host a world tournament. Pakistan is a security state. Pakistan establishment has held 250 million people hostages for its personal benefits.

I don't think that there is any reality to this news. This is my own opinion but Pakistan has nothing to do with any of these terrorist activities. This is just another false flag to sabotage Pakistan's name.

what agenda?

You guys really think that if some team doesn't want to travel to Pakistan they need some agenda?

So ISIS has no issues with thousands of Palestinians dying, literally being massacred by non-Muslims, with a clear unIslamic agenda. There's every red flag under an Islamic umbrella that you can associate with what is currently happening there.

But ISIS has real, personal, religious issues with cricket.

Cops on terror alert after ISIS threatens cricket World Cup match on Long Island: ‘Tightest security’

Police are ramping up security on Long Island after ISIS threatened to disrupt an upcoming cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan at an East Meadow stadium, authorities said Wednesday.

While officials said there had been no “specific threat” of a terror attack at Eisenhower Stadium during the June 9 match, cops are taking no chances when the international championship comes to town.

“This will be the tightest security that Nassau County has ever seen,” Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said. “Every single asset in the police department is involved, including our intelligence.

“We have partnered with the NYPD, the MTA, the New York State Police, Suffolk County, FBI and DHS, Customs, have all provided briefings,” Ryder said. “Everything is credible.”

Local, state and federal authorities are beefing up security at a Long Island stadium after an ISIS threat of an upcoming cricket match between India and Pakistan.

The heightened security follows an ominous online post by the Islamic State on matrix.com.

The May 28 post shows a hooded individual with a rifle strapped to their back, with the message reading, “You wait for the matches… and we wait for you.”

At the top is written “Nassau Stadium” with the date June 9.

According to county officials, there will also be 100 police officers assigned to other area neighborhoods, while the venue itself will be equipped with metal detectors at all the entrances, a no-fly zone overhead and strict limits on what cricket fans can bring with them when they go inside.

Ryder said spectators will not be allowed to linger outside the stadium and no drones are allowed.

“This is like the Super Bowl on steroids,” Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said at Wednesday’s press conference. “If I wasn’t confident that we were safe, secure and that our healthcare measures were not in place, I would not do this.”

Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement that officials in Albany had been working with the feds and preparing for the cricket matches “for months” to ensure that the event isn’t marred by terrorists.

“While there is no credible public safety threat at this time, we continue to monitor the situation closely,” she said. “I have also directed the New York State Police to engage in elevated security measures, including an increased law enforcement presence, advance surveillance and thorough screening processes.”

Yes.. India was behind the terrorists attack on SL team too according to some propagandists here

Police snipers at New York's T20 World Cup games

Security has been tightened before the first T20 World Cup match at a temporary stadium in New York, including positioning police snipers at covert locations around the ground.

The 34,000 capacity venue in Eisenhower Park will host its first match of the tournament on Monday when South Africa face Sri Lanka at 15:30 BST.

Nassau County Police Department will oversee a massive operation to ensure the games held at the Long Island ground between 3-12 June pass off without incident.

India play Pakistan at the venue on 9 June, in what is the most high-profile match in the tournament's group stage.

A pro-ISIS group has reportedly threatened to target, external the tournament.

It is understood security measures will include SWAT teams with specialist snipers. Plain clothes police officers will also be operating inside the ground.

BBC Sport also spoke to officers from the force's narcotics division who have been seconded from their normal duties to watch the four drop-in pitches on a rolling 24-hour basis to ensure they are not tampered with.

Nassau's police force has worked in conjunction with the New York Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, the US Department Of Homeland Security and other agencies in the build-up to the tournament.

"The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement to BBC Sport.

"We work closely with authorities in our host countries and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event."

The park land surrounding the ground will be closed off to the public on the eight match days to counter the potential threat of a drone attack.

Fans attending matches will be subject to searches and will have to go through airport style security scanners before gaining entry.

Nassau County executive Bruce Blakeman said last week that security would be "like the Super Bowl" but "on steroids".

The pop-up stadium has been built at a cost of £24m ($30m) but will be dismantled afterwards and the land turned back over to Nassau County.

ISIS in the US? I highly doubt it! I have no idea where this fake terror alert is coming from. The US has been hosting bigger events all year round.

The ISIS threat came as a concern for attending fans but the local authorities have stated that they will be taking stringent measures including collaborating with other agencies to ensure that proper security is provided to the cricketer as well as the fans.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, in recent media interactions, emphasised on the extensive arrangements, likening them to presidential-level security.

"The scale and magnitude of the security for this India-Pakistan match will be more compared to when we hosted the USA President Barack Obama some years ago," Ryder said.

He also confirmed the involvement of officers from Nassau County Police, Suffolk County, New York State, as well as agencies including the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and US Customs and Border Protection in the comprehensive security arrangements for the game.
