A total of three venues in the USA and six in the Caribbean will be used for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 as the groups and fixtures for the ninth edition of the 20-over showcase were confirmed on Friday, 5 January.

Ten of the 20 teams will play their first match of the 29-day tournament in the USA, with 16 contests to be held in Lauderhill, Dallas and New York and the blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan scheduled for the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island on 9 June.

Forty-one matches will be played in the Caribbean across six different islands, with semi-finals in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana and the title decider scheduled to be played in Barbados on 29 June.

The tournament will commence on 1 June with co-hosts USA taking on arch-rival Canada, while fellow hosts the West Indies will play Papua New Guinea in Guyana on the second day of group play.

The event is split up into four groups consisting of five teams, with the top two sides from each group then progressing to the Super Six phase of the tournament ahead of the knockout semi-finals and final.

Joining co-hosts USA in Group A are arch-rivals India and Pakistan, as well as Canada in their first appearance at the event as well as the European side Ireland.

Group B consists of the last two winners of the Men's T20 World Cup in England and Australia, with the pair to take on Namibia, Scotland and Oman.

The West Indies are placed into Group C alongside New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea, while Group D sees South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal fixtured against each other.

The fixtures for the ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup have been revealed with the event to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA from 1 to 29 June 2024.

The pinnacle ICC men’s T20 event will see a record 20 teams divided into four groups competing across 55 games for the right to be crowned ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Champions 2024, including co-hosts the West Indies and the USA, together with the other qualifiers: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Namibia, Nepal, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Uganda.

The 20 teams have been divided into four groups of five, with the top two teams progressing to the Super Eights:

Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and the USA

Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman

Group C: New Zealand, the West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea

Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Netherlands and Nepal

The event commences with the two co-hosts starting their campaigns on the first two days of June. The USA will take on Canada in the tournament opener at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas on Saturday 1 June, while the West Indies will kickstart their campaign against Papua New Guinea at the Guyana National Stadium on Sunday 2 June.

One of cricket’s biggest rivalries will take place in one of the world’s most iconic cities, with New York to host India and Pakistan on Sunday, 9 June. The fixture will be played in a cutting-edge 34,000-seat modular stadium just 30 miles east of downtown Manhattan in Nassau County, New York. Eight matches will be played at the venue.

Defending champions England will begin their title defence on Tuesday 4 June in Barbados against Scotland and 2022 finalists, Pakistan, will get their challenge going on Thursday 6 June, when they play the USA in Dallas.

Among the plethora of blockbuster matchups scheduled in the group stage, fans can look forward to Sri Lanka taking on South Africa in New York on Monday 3 June, while England will go up against archrivals Australia in Barbados on Saturday 8 June. Another highly anticipated fixture will see the West Indies taking on New Zealand on Wednesday 12 June at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago.

First-time Qualifiers Uganda will play their first ever ICC Men’s T20 World Cup fixture in Guyana against Afghanistan on Monday, 3 June. Nepal, who qualified for the T20 World Cup for the first time since 2014, will open their campaign against Sri Lanka in one of four matches to be played at Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.

Upon completion of the group stage, the top two teams from each of the four groups will move into the Super Eight stage of the competition. Teams seeded first and second in their groups in the first round will retain that seeding in the Super Eight, provided they qualify. Super Eight matches are scheduled to be played in popular Caribbean tourist destinations Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The two top teams from each group in the Super Eight will progress to the semi-finals, which will be held in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 June respectively. The final will be held at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday 29 June.

Public tickets will go on sale via a ballot and fans can register their interest now here. Registering now will ensure fans receive ticket news first to help secure their seat at the World Cup. Outside of the ballot, fans can guarantee match tickets through the official travel programme, ICC Travel & Tours, where fans will be able to purchase official ticket-inclusive travel packages. Registrations for travel and tour packages are open now and can be accessed here.

ICC Chief Executive, Geoff Allardice said: “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 marks an exciting expansion of our sport with more teams than ever before set to compete in this event. It’s going to be an incredible spectacle bringing together 20 international teams from Africa, the Americas, Asia, East-Asia Pacific and Europe.

“The release of the fixtures is made even more exciting for fans as we enter a new frontier, with the USA hosting a major ICC event for the first time. With 16 matches being played across three venues in the USA, it allows us to make a statement in the world’s biggest sports market.

“It will also be great to have an ICC event back in the West Indies, which has such a rich history of the game. It has hosted World Cups with great success in the past and this tournament will certainly provide a boost to the game there, especially with the final being played in Barbados.”

CWI Chief Executive Johnny Grave said: “The announcement of the match schedule for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 marks a significant milestone in our preparations for this year’s tournament. We know that teams, fans and cricket enthusiasts worldwide have been eagerly awaiting this announcement, and now that it is available, it provides a roadmap for the thrilling journey that lies ahead.

“In addition to the match fixtures, the announcement also highlights the host countries and iconic venues that will set the stage for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Each host country and city will bring its own unique flavour to the tournament, and fans from every corner of the globe can expect an exciting blend of T20 cricketing entertainment, local culture and warm hospitality.

“From classic rivalries to history making upsets and continental showdowns, fans can start looking forward to an action-packed month of games at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next June, and we encourage everyone to get tickets as soon as they go on sale as we expect the demand to be high.”

The Chair of T20 World Cup Incorporated, the entity established in the USA to deliver the event, Peter Hutton said: “The USA is already one of cricket’s biggest audiences for ICC events and bringing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to New York City, Dallas and Florida is a massive opportunity to exponentially grow the sport. We’ve got three fantastic venues to host matches and we strongly encourage fans in the USA and around the world to start planning to secure their tickets for what will be a unique cricket spectacle featuring the best players in the world.”

Vijay Srinivasan, co-Founder, Major League Cricket said: “Major League Cricket is delighted to host the marquee opening match for the biggest-ever ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the premier MLC venue, Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in North Texas.

“We know that cricket fans from across the country will be out in force on June 1 as the United States hosts Canada in the curtain-raiser for the tournament. The match will mark a new chapter in a rivalry dating back longer than any other in international cricket, all the way to 1844.

“In addition, we can’t wait to welcome fans from Pakistan, the Netherlands, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to the Lone Star State for a further three matches at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium where many of the stars of Major League Cricket will be playing for their countries.”

The ICC often places Pakistan and India in the same group because they know this match can generate profit. Pakistan's T20 side is stronger than India's, so I believe history will repeat itself as Pakistan defeated India in the ICC T20I World Cup 2021.

Hopefully, Pakistan will make India humble again in same fashion.

India and Pakistan have played WC matches against each other in Asia, Australasia, Africa, Europe. 1st WC encounter in North America.

But the stadium is small, so not many fans will get the chance to see this epic encounter.

They say the capacity will be 34,000. That is more than the capacities in all grounds of Eng, NZ, SA, WI, UAE.

I think the word history signifies either last occurrence or most occurrence of an event.

Not only ICC ensures an India/Pakistan match, they also ensure that England and Australia are grouped as well. Starting from 2017 Champions Trophy, England and Australia have always had an ICC tournament match.

ICC raking in premium money from both contests.

ICC should've placed Papua New Guinea or Uganda in Group A just to ensure that India and Pakistan both go through. You never know with Pakistan that they might shell a match to Ireland especially when nobody is well aware of the conditions.

Babar already licking his lips, a very good opportunity for Babar to score some 50's and 100's in t20

LOL , i was thinking the same.. 2007 odi WC vibes , both Ind & Pak were knocked out then.. :ROFLMAO:

ICC are pushing this rivalry down our throats, it’s a joke tbh.

May as well have a round robin, with 3 games in a day from different venues.

Can't wait for June to arrive, just had a WC very recently in India but still excited for another ICC Tournament as always.

Group A looks the easier, but of course anything can happen
Group B looks interesting in the sense Australia and England should go through, but Namibia and Scotland can put a good fight
Group C looks tough with Afghanistan, Windies, NZ, however Uganda and PNG i dont see them causing an upset
Group D, is the group of death for me South Africa, (SL and Bang) are good t20 side, and will be good in W.I and US conditions Netherlands and Nepal, are no joke team eithers.

The hardest group in order
1 Group D
2 Group B
3 Group C
4 Group A

India probably will play without Kohli/Rohit/Rahul. Hope they do that. India needs introduction of youngsters. Don't care if they win the cup or not.

Yeah. It seems like this is premeditated.

They always tend to put certain teams in certain groups (Pakistan and India in one group; England and Australia in one group; Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in one group).

This becomes farcical. In FIFA, Argentina and Brazil are rivals but you don't see FIFA blatantly put them together.

ICC can do better.

poor decision to have this world cup in US. Americans do not care about cricket or any other sport besides football(american), baseball and basketball.

It will basically the indian and pak diaspora as spectators. Also I read somewhere the stadium in NY is in poor condition. No way ideal to place an international tournament.

They should have just done Quarter-finals after the groups stage - So Obvious

Im well and truly pissed off when I read about this Super 8. If anyone is wondering why, its because it adds confusion and makes things less simple, also in terms of fans buying tickets, there is an increased uncertainty on which group of this super 8 will be in, as opposed to top two from each group make quarterfinals.

Too many matches and too many repeated ties (meaning teams playing each other again and again)

Is this a D/N game? Meaning 4 30 a.m start in India?
ICC will make sure that the timings are as such that Indians can watch it feasibiliy. They wont care about the in ground fans.

Would had loved Afghanistan and USA being in the same group. Wonder if the Afghan players would had shown aggresiveness than

As a fan in the USA this is a dream come true, praying I'm able to get tickets

geez ...group D - games there will have plenty of fireworks...overall groupings of the usual suspects ...as money spinners as expected. Any one know anything about pitches in america - do they take spin, bounce/seam/swing - low bounce, batting paradises?

I doubt there is any floodlights in that stadium. it's not even a stadium. It's a small ground in a big park with a tiny parking lot.
not an issue, they can probably place bleachers for the fans

Typical ICC cashing in on another Pak v ind clash.

The PCB needs to demand a greater revenue share for our benefit overall as the Icc has continuously failed to do anything for us whist profiting of us during these flagship contests.

It takes two to tango as the saying goes and all those people that say the other side bring in the greater revenue they need to realise that they equally bring in a greater Ego and greed which we need to capitalise on.

The rich always want to get richer no matter what. regardless of how much they have.

That is a well known fact.

Is up to us to cash in on their Egos and greed.

Honestly this WC will become a joke. The so called stadium in NY is actually in Nassau county almost 2 hrs from the main city. Plus it's only a green ground now. Construction is supposed to start next month and the game is in June - that is ridiculous. There is no way they will build a modular stadium for 30,000 spectators in 6 months. Not sure what the ICC is smoking here. They most probably will move it to WI where they have actual cricket stadiums.

1704663407501.png

Current status of the ground. I have actually played club games there - never imagined it would be an international stadium. The outfield is not even fit enough for domestic cricket. And all this construction will happen in less than 6 months ?? Even the grand prairie stadium in Dallas, Texas is nowhere close to hosting an international game. Only the Lauderhill , FL stadium is suitable and approved for int games. Still think it's not fit for int games- but ICC wants to milk the US crowd so it was approved as an int venue - can atleast live with it. My guess - they will move all NY games to Florida or West Indies

Lol this is crazy if true. Are they really attempting to set up a World Cup hosting venue where literally every aspect from the grass to the commentary box needs to be added within 6 months?

Perhaps they have no faith in the sustainability of any projects done in the US, so everything will be temporary and overhauled as soon as the WC is done.

The super 8 groups have already been organised regardless of where you finish.

So it seems ICC thought of this already.

All you have to do is hope your team doesn’t have a banana skin moment against the minnows.

I’ve got a weird feeling Ireland will beat one of Pakistan or India.

Also I wouldn’t rule out US or Canada pulling one over Pakistan too.

They were planning on building a modular stadium- as in it will be disassembled a week after the WC is over. Similar to what Qatar did after soccer WC. And that's where the comparison ends lol ! Qatar spent billions plus built brand new rail transport and almost built new cities for the soccer world cup. And icc wants to do it for $30 million- peanuts in the USA for any development. Heck lld office building renovations cost $15 million plus and these guys want to build an entire cricket stadium for $30 million ! 😂

And that's why they should have had either papa new Guinea or Nepal instead of Ireland..Ireland are no pushovers- potential banana skin for both ind and pak. 🙂

So Babar and Rizwan can score all their runs in the group stage

Then score nothing and go missing in the crunch games

And end with Averages with 40+ With 130 strike rates

An their fans can tell us we have two of the greatest batsmen since cricket start 146 years ago

Even Canada…they won’t be too bad

This is from the official New York state Nassau County government website dated Oct 25th, 2023. And this is just an environmental clearance cert.. And no construction drawings have been approved. no const permits issue at all - and they plan to start const in Feb and finish by July. A house renovation in the US takes 3-5 months and this is an existing house not a new house built - and these guys want to build a cricket stadium in 5 months.. I have the Taj Mahal to sell if you are interested .. LOL !:ROFLMAO:

More updates. It was initially supposed to be in the Bronx suburb of NY but the city rejected it and so it was moved to Eisenhover Park, Nassau County which is almost 2 hrs travel time from New York city.

On Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Playing In T20 World Cup 2024, Sourav Ganguly's 'Outstanding ' TakeSourav Ganguly on Sunday backed stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to feature in India's squad for the T20I World Cup in June.

Former captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday backed stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to feature in India's squad for the T20I World Cup in June. The duo, who have not featured in any T20I for about 14 months, have made themselves available for the sport's shortest format, and it remains to be seen if they are picked for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, beginning January 11 in Mohali. "Of course Rohit should captain the team in the T20I World Cup. Virat Kohli also should be there. Virat Kohli is an outstanding player, nothing will happen (to return after 14 months)," Ganguly added.

India's semifinal defeat to England in the T20I World Cup on November 10 was the duo's last appearance in the shortest format.

Ganguly is impressed with Yashasvi Jaiswal's outing in the two-Test series in South Africa and said the young opener will get enough opportunities in future.

The 22-year-old left-handed batter managed only 50 runs in four innings on the challenging South African tracks of Centurion and Cape Town as the series ended in a 1-1 draw.

"He has played well in the second Test, it's just the start of his career. He will get enough opportunities," Ganguly said during a promotional event here.

After their innings and 32-run defeat at Centurion, India made a strong comeback to defeat South Africa by seven wickets at Cape Town in what was the shortest ever Test.

"People say a lot of things after losing one match, India are a strong side. But look at the way they have played. They won the ODI series, drew both the Test and T20I series."

Ten key matches at T20 World Cup 2024

Beginning on 1 June, the USA and West Indies host 18 of the best teams in the world in what is the biggest line-up in ICC global tournament history.

USA v Canada, Dallas - 1 June

As neighbours go head-to-head on the world stage it’s worth noting that the USA v Canada fixture is the oldest rivalry in international cricket, with the pair playing what is considered the first international cricket match in 1844, 33 years prior to England’s meeting against Australia. For the record, Canada won the two innings match by 23 runs at the St. George’s Cricket Club in Manhattan.

In the modern day there is no love lost between the teams, headlined by multiple encounters of fire and spice across both white-ball formats. USA played their part in denying Canada ODI status at World Cricket League 2 back in 2019, while tensions have flared in recent meetings in the T20 format.

A Super Over was needed to separate the teams in their last T20I, with the USA prevailing thanks to Steven Taylor and Xavier Marshall combining for 22 runs. Ali Khan saw off the Canadian threat, keeping Navneet Dhaliwal and Dillon Heyliger to 14 in response.

India v Pakistan, New York - 9 June

An obvious inclusion given the rivalry between the teams, the pair also have history in recent T20 World Cups, with the latest chapter in Australia one of the greatest matches in tournament history.

India won the final-ball thriller in front of a capacity crowd at the MCG, though Pakistan have had their fair share of the spoils in recent times, thumping India in a 10-wicket triumph in UAE back in the 2021 edition.

The added charm in this chapter will be the game’s backdrop of Nassau County International Cricket Stadium of New York, the fifth game at the venue.

England v Australia, Barbados - 8 June

A blockbuster irrespective of the format, the teams meet at the Kensington Oval in Barbados at the same venue where England claimed victory over their traditional rivals in the 2010 tournament.

Fast-forward 13 years and the bitterness continues to simmer. 2021 T20 World Cup champions Australia meet the side to claim 2022 honours, and Jos Buttler’s team will be desperate to keep their crown after a disappointing show at the 2023 Cricket World Cup on the ODI side of things.

England have enjoyed a fruitful December tour of the West Indies in their build-up, piling 267/3 and 226/3 in back-to-back T20I innings to underline their credentials.

South Africa v Netherlands, New York - 8 June

A bogey team for South Africa in recent tournaments, the match will be a mental battle as much as a physical one over 22 yards.

South Africa were shocked by the Dutch in Adelaide in the 2022 edition, and at Cricket World Cup 2023 in the longer format, a thumping Dutch counter with the bat and a strong Powerplay performance with the ball led to their 38-run win.

Outside of one or two players moving on the teams should be similar to the XIs that took each other on in Australia, and South Africa will have experience of the New York surface thanks to an early game at the same venue.

Uganda v PNG, Guyana - 5 June

A debutant team on a fairytale run against a second-time entrant desperate to show their quality with a maiden win. Either way, there will be a heartwarming story when the final ball is bowled in Guyana.

The match-up is a fascinating one for those who follow the emerging game. Uganda come from a hotbed of Associate talent in east and southern Africa, while PNG have filled their calendar through a mix of East Asia-Pacific Qualifiers, a tri-series with Malaysia and Hong Kong, plus tournaments and play in northern Australia.

PNG’s experience at the 2021 edition may give them a slight edge, though the teams will have played a match each in the campaign by the time they meet at the Guyana National Stadium.

West Indies v New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago - 12 June

The penultimate match of the West Indies’ group phase effort, the match between these two could dictate the fortunes of the co-hosts tournament. A win would likely springboard their campaign, or consign them to an early exit.

Conversely, the match could be a must-win for the Black Caps, if they happen to go down to Afghanistan earlier in the competition. New Zealand have won nine of the last 11 T20Is between the teams, excluding no results.

There is an air of excitement in the West Indies after recent encouraging performances, though the assessment of their current generation could well hinge on this fixture.

Bangladesh v Nepal, St Vincent and The Grenadines - 16 June

Not only is the fixture an excellent opportunity to test themselves over a regional rival, it’s also a rematch of a meeting at the T20 World Cup in 2014. Bangladesh claimed a comfortable eight-wicket win, though the gap between the teams has closed in recent years.

While a great chance for a young and exciting Nepali group to shock a relative giant, there’s a potential full-circle moment for Sompal Kami, the only member of the current Nepali team to play in the 2014 fixture.

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh, Dallas - 7 June

While the two teams cross paths a lot across formats, the unfamiliar territory of the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium surface adds intrigue to a meeting that could well decide the second qualifier out of Group D

Sri Lanka claimed their most recent T20I meeting, a final over victory in Dubai at the 2022 Asia Cup, and were five-wicket winners (with seven balls remaining) when the teams met at the 2021 World Cup in Sharjah.

The Dallas surface has a reputation for favouring pace off, with left-arm orthodox and leg-spin effective in negating the danger of the shorter boundary on the western side. Shakib Al Hasan and Wanindu Hasaranga are likely the key players for this fixture.

England v Scotland, Barbados - 4 June

Those in Scottish circles lament the lack of Anglo-Scottish meetings in international cricket, and it’s fair to say the men from the north will have the fixture circled in the calendar.

And just to spice the fixture up a little, it was the Scots who surprised their rivals to the south in an ODI at (The Grange) in 2018.

England have been the yardstick in the T20I format over the last two years, but did lose to Ireland (albeit on DLS) during their successful 2022 campaign.

Scotland have enjoyed moments of success in recent T20 World Cups and tend to hit their straps early, having beaten Bangladesh and the West Indies in their opening fixtures at the last two tournaments.

Ireland v Pakistan, Lauderhill - 16 June

Ireland have history of beating Pakistan at ICC events, most notably their victory in the 50-over World Cup on St Patrick’s day in 2007.

Pakistan may be relieved to be meeting the Irish in Florida and not Kingston where they were 16 years ago, though Ireland have enjoyed the Lauderhill location having won both of their T20Is at the venue, in a series against the USA in December 2021.

The match is the last of the group for both teams, who could well need the victory to ensure progress.

Canada will attract millions when it faces India and Pakistan in Twenty20 World Cup

Canada will be basking in the limelight when it goes in to bat in the Twenty20 World Cup that will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States in June.

Canadian captain Saad Bin Zafar and his teammates, who until now operate in obscurity, will instantly jump into the spotlight when Canada faces super powers India and Pakistan in the first round of the tournament.

Millions around the world will have their eyes glued on their television sets, especially when India takes the field to see superstars such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

In the shortest and most exciting format of the game that has taken the world by storm in recent years, Canada has been placed in Group A with India, Pakistan, Ireland and the United States.

“That group pretty much has the most eyeballs,” Zafar said. “We couldn’t have asked for a better group. That’s huge for us.”

The rest of the 20 teams have been drawn into three other divisions with defending champion England heading Group B with Ashes rival Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman.

Group C features New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea.

Group D rounds things out with South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal.

Canada also will find itself the centre of attention on June 1, as it has been given the unprecedented honour of kicking off the tournament versus the United States in Dallas.

Normally, the defending champion starts off the championship, but this time Canada and the U.S. have been picked as a tribute to both for playing the first international match in 1844, even though many wrongfully think England and Australia were the first.

In fact, England met Australia 33 years later in a series now known as the Ashes that’s played biennially, alternating between England and Australia.

The two top countries in each group will advance to the Super Eight phase that will be split into two groups of four. The first two in each division will make their way to the semis to be played in Guyana and Trinidad on June 26 and 27, respectively, with the final slated on June 29 in Barbados.

Canada’s second match will be against the Irish on June 7 and, on June 11, it faces Pakistan on the outskirts of New York before wrapping up its group stage against favoured India in Lauderhill, Fla., on June 15.

Thousands of Canadians will shortly start making arrangements to fly in for this encounter that will be played at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York, where a 34,000-seated modular temporary stadium is under construction.

This is the same venue that will host the India-Pakistan clash and, as is usual, ducats for this match will be snapped up within minutes once they go on sale.

Canada will warm up for this tournament by travelling to Hong Kong and then Nepal before heading to Dubai for a 50-over tournament.

The construction of a new modular stadium, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, a first of its kind for cricket, is underway and is expected to be completed within a mere three months.
The 34,000-seat stadium is scheduled to host eight matches at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, including the high-profile fixture between India and Pakistan on 9 June.

The stadium will feature an array of seating options including premium and general admission, VIP and hospitality suites, as well as a unique party deck and cabanas.

Sustainability is at the forefront of this project. The grandstands, previously used for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, are being repurposed for the T20 World Cup venue.

The design team behind this ambitious project is Populous, renowned for creating some of the most iconic stadia worldwide, including the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

In New York, they are the architect of record for both the New York Yankees and New York Mets.

From Adelaide to New York - How the drop-in pitch at the New York stadium will be installed

In an expanded tournament, comprising of 20 teams for the first time, the likes of Uganda, Oman, Papua New Guinea, USA and Canada will have the chance to test themselves against some of the biggest teams and players in world cricket.

How the drop-in pitch at the New York stadium will be installed

While the Caribbean islands have hosted World Cups before, this is new ground for the USA, which will be hosting a major global event for the first time. As a result, efforts have been in full swing to ensure the facilities in the country are up to international standards.

One of the venues, in New York, is the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Eisenhower Park. The stadium is set to be a temporary facility with a seating capacity of 34,000 people. As part of the preparations, plans are in place to provide the venue with a drop-in pitch.

Drop-in pitches are those which are prepared outside a stadium before being put in place for a match of a season, as opposed to being prepared naturally within the ground itself. They are mainly used in Australia, where cricket stadiums also host rugby and football matches, so damage to the pitches need to be avoided.

Speaking to Channel 7 in Australia, Adelaide Oval head groundsman Daniel Hough explained how the pitches for this stadium would be prepared in Adelaide, and then transported to New York to be 'dropped in'. He said,

“We put them in a shipping container and send them really wherever we want around the world. But they've gone over to Florida. And I've just come back from a month of work over there putting the trays together, putting the soil in, compacting them and putting the grass on. So we're in the grow-in phase.

We've got a business, a company over there called LandTek that are helping us with the grow-in phase. Then there's a couple more strategic trips throughout the next six months to do some work on them and then transport them from Florida all the way up to New York where we'll put them in and prepare them.”

Hough said that this was a new challenge, particularly logistically, thanks to the large distances the pitches would be travelling. Drop-in pitches have been criticised in the past for not deteriorating in a manner similar to natural surfaces, but that has improved over the years.

34K capacity is a joke for a Pak vs Ind WC match considering their last was in the MCG with 92K+ spectators and that North America does not have any less, if not more, Pakistanis and Indians than Australia does.

Anyone have any clues on when the tickets would be released
I am wondering about this is well, i am in Canada if possible id like to see a match and icc website their was a registration for information about tickets when released i signed up for it 2 weeks ago but have not heard anything

Same situation. In Canada and desperately want to reach NY for this game

Have to say the rigging of the groups even by ICC standards is extraordinary :ROFLMAO:

Not only are Pakistan and India drawn in the same group, by happy coincidence so are the US and Canada !

If Pakistan qualifies for the super 8s, do they go through as A1 or A2. Do we have the seedings for other groups yet?

ICC are pushing this rivalry down our throats, it’s a joke tbh.

May as well have a round robin, with 3 games in a day from different venues.
I said this exact same thing last time and triggered someone here.

It takes the luster out of the entire encounter when it’s always preset like this.

Still. Pak v Ind in NYC first time in history is a p big deal.

Have you seen the ground they’re playing in? Probably the biggest rivalry in sports and it’ll be limited to 30,000 people in the park, that’s if they get the stands built in time.

Finally got the notification today from ICC regarding it but you have to apply for it and see if you get approved for it. What a stupid setup this is.

Probably unlikely I can get Pak-Ind tickets but hoping I can get at least one of the other Pakistani games.

The much-hyped cricket match between bitter foes India and Pakistan in New York has been unsurprisingly the hottest ticket ahead of the historic T20 World Cup co-hosted by the U.S. with demand reaching unprecedented levels.

Tickets for this year's biggest cricket event opened through a public ballot with the seven-day window closing on February 7.

Remaining tickets went on sale on Thursday, which marked just 100 days to go until the first cricket World Cup is staged in the world's biggest sports market.

But there are no tickets left for nine of the 16 matches scheduled in the U.S. with Dallas and Fort Lauderdale also hosting games. As expected there was a frenzy for the India-Pakistan match on June 9 which was oversubscribed more than 200 times the allocation, according to the International Cricket Council.

"There is no data point like ticket sales to showcase the level of enthusiasm that’s out there and we’re thrilled with the support we’re seeing," T20 World Cup USA chief executive Brett Jones said.

"The 2024 T20 World Cup is going to fundamentally change the game of cricket in the U.S. and it’s our job to capitalize on this moment."

A standard ticket for the India-Pakistan match in New York cost $175, while the standard plus is priced at $300 and premium rises to $400.

The remarkable demand underlines the bedlam for the contest between the nuclear-armed foes and vindicates the decision from the authorities to ensure that the match is played in New York.

With such long-held dreams for cricket to crack the American market, with momentum building in recent years marked by the launch of Major League Cricket, every effort was made for money spinners India to play their early matches in the U.S. rather than the Caribbean - traditional cricket terrain.

And it was rather inevitable that India-Pakistan was fixtured for New York to lift cricket's most fierce rivalry to new heights - and hype. There is no doubt this match would have sold out even if the ground's capacity was 100,000.

But given the lack of cricket grounds in the cricket backwater, with the popular British Commonwealth sport played on unique dimensions, New York's slate of matches will be played at the 34,000-seat modular stadium in Eisenhower Park, which is 30 miles east of Manhattan.

The first glimpse of Nassau County Stadium was revealed last month with the venue to host eight matches. There is set to be just one warm-up game in late May before the ground's first match on June 3 between South Africa and Sri Lanka.

But all eyes in the cricket world- and surely from intrigued locals - will be when India and Pakistan do battle in a contest that is much more than just about cricket.

Given the intense political situation, they've fought three wars since becoming independent nations in 1947, India and Pakistan sadly rarely play each other in cricket. Only in major events do they clash with administrators doing everything they can to milk this ridiculously hyped contest.

Matches between the countries have reached hundreds of millions viewers on the broadcast to underline the financial stakes every time they meet.

It has all meant that anticipation will be at fever pitch when India and Pakistan renew their rivalry in a world famous city that few imagined would ever host such a major cricket match.

And those lucky enough to secure coveted tickets will see a new chapter added in what will be the most watched sporting match to hit the U.S. in 2024.

Ponting anticipates ‘exciting times’ for cricket ahead of India-Pakistan T20 World Cup clash

Ricky Ponting is eagerly awaiting the match between India and Pakistan in New York at this year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup and expects to see cricket thrive in the United States in the ensuing years on the back of the tournament.

All eyes will be on the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island on June 9 when India take on arch-rival Pakistan in a contest that is sure to revive memories of the epic encounter that took place at the MCG during the most recent T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.

It was India star Virat Kohli who stole the show on that occasion with a match-winning 82* and another sold-out crowd is likely when the two traditional rivals meet at this year's event co-hosted by the West Indies and USA.

Ponting was discussing the upcoming clash in New York with host Sanjana Ganesan on the latest episode of The ICC Review and the Australia great expects to see similar scenes in June that he saw up close in Melbourne almost two years ago.

“I've seen it firsthand here in Australia, in Melbourne last time around, where there were 95,000 people in the stadium and another 50,000 people outside the stadium," Ponting said.

"You can imagine what it's going to be like in New York. So, really exciting times for the world game."

While the USA have a rich history in the game and even featured in the first-ever international cricket match way back in 1844, Ponting feels the sport has only started to grow in popularity in recent years on the back of hosting fixtures between full-member sides and the rise of franchise cricket competitions like Major League Cricket that continues to attract a host of international stars.

Ponting, who recently signed as coach of Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket, wants to be on the ground floor of the sport emerging in the USA.

“I think there's a great opportunity to continue to grow and promote the game in that part of the world. And that's a big part of the reason that I took the coaching job at Washington Freedom, to be a part of that sort of movement to grow the game in the US," Ponting added.

“There's obviously so many expat Indians, West Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, and Afghans in that part of the world that we know that they will continue to promote the game. But what we have to do is get the Americans into loving and understanding the game of cricket.”

Ponting saw a strong possibility of quick growth in cricket in the USA. He backed the franchise model to take hold and help the game move forward in the region.

“I'd like to think it can become really big and as I said, actually become really big quite quickly,” Ponting opined.

“What I'm hearing, I think part of the franchise model with the teams that were in last year was everyone has to sort of build their own stadium in the different cities that were playing the games.

“And I think when that happens in a few years, there'll be the potential to grow the tournament out, maybe add a couple more teams.

“And once you start playing in not just the six but in a lot of these big cities in the US, then I think there's an opportunity for great growth and quick growth.

“And we shouldn't sit back and just think in two years it's going to be a mini IPL, it probably won't be that. But I think that's what we should all be aiming for and doing our best to promote the game the best way that we can.”

Should have been held in one of the iconic West Indies venues. Barbados, Jamaica or Port of Spain.

We should bring back Amir and Imad.

Amir is a gun tournament bowler, he turns up for the high pressure, 2 time tournament winner.

Also I hope the players stop becoming like fanboys every time India is around. You are there to win.

Got the tickets to see my first WC match against Ireland in Florida. Hopefully its a good one.

Pakistan should just build a few of these temporary stadiums and they would look better than what we have today

Out of all the Pakistan matches, you chose to watch the one against Ireland?
I don't think he chose it. He might have got the ticket for that game only. I am sure he would have been looking for the tickets of other games but I guess this lucky draw-type system came in his way.

ICC ballots were a disaster so Pak vs Ind match wasn't possible. On the secondary market, the tickets are being sold for an absurd $2,000+ per. Re-sale prices for matches vs Canada & US are basically the same and those aren't particularly interesting either.

Planning to stay a week after the match in Florida to explore & have fun there too. Worked out well IMO.

So once again it appears that India will be playing their first 3 matches on the same venue and will be playing the most important game against Pakistan after having played once already on the same ground.

This will be a big advantage for India going forward in the game against Pakistan. As none have any idea of the conditions there in the New York Stadium.

Excited to watch Kuldeep and Bishnoi bowl in tandem, those 8 overs of spin could be our trump card.

So once again South Africa have to face their nightmarish team Netherlands in an ICC tournament!

T20 World Cup 2024: Ticket Prices For India vs Pakistan Hit The Roof, Selling For ₹2.08 Lakh Claims Report

With excitement building up for the T20 World Cup 2024, ticket prices have almost doubled for the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan in New York on June 9th, reaching an exorbitant rate. As per media reports, the prices have hit the roof and are being sold at a staggering ₹2.08 lakhs.

The rivalry between India and Pakistan is arguably the most exciting of the lot, mainly due to the geo-political tension between the two nations. The two nations haven't played in a bilateral series since 2012-13 and India having the wood over the arch-rivals in ICC events will fire Pakistan up even more.

As per a report by Daily Jang, the prices as per dollars were 1300 previously and have now risen to 2500. The surge in amounts is likely due to the presence of Indian and Pakistani diaspora in the United States of America (USA) as they seek to secure seats for the spicy encounter.
