The quality of cricket I have seen so far in the first few games has been very poor.

Tried and tested players like Hafeez and Malik when younger guns need to be given a chance.

The standards of fielding, fitness, running between the wickets, power hitting and game awareness are well below the other leading T20 leagues. It is also worrying seeing bowlers running into the danger area and umpires not noticing. They will not be so lucky in international cricket.

It is difficult to see how this tournament will provide us with the quality of cricketers needed to win a major world tournament in a years time.

Fitness and fielding has always been an issue over the years.

You tend to find that a couple of raw bowlers will impress, whilst the batting generally doesn't unearth too many gems.

Let's see how it goes.

Really disappointed with kpk, bolostain and and sindh
Players like asad shafiq imran farhat have no reason to play t20s.

But really happy with central and nothern they have given a chance to youngesters credit to the management

I agree with the standard of fielding, running but disagree regarding power hitting.already we have seen youngesters do well

Coaches should be judged on what they do to fitness and fielding as they are 2 things they can do something about. If the coaches fear for their jobs, watch the standards go up.

Fielding has never been Pakistan strength baring a couple like shadab babar hassan ali mawaz and a few youngesters they dont take fielding or fitness seriously

One continuing issue is the same names year after year, mediocre players who never perform.

Look at the Sindh and Balochistan squads for example.

How?

You've literally seen:

Ali Imran impress

Haider Ali impress

Abdullah Shafique impress

Zeeshan Malik impress

Zeeshan Ashraf impress

Blame the management I hope the pcb is keeping an eye on this

Have only seen the highlights, but apart from Shafique and Haider, Bismillah’s innings is also heartening. We need a hard hitting keeper very badly in T20’s to bat lower down the order. Some nice hits there.

People need to give this new domestic structure time. It could take at least 3-5 years before the efforts of these domestic and hpc coaches and systems bear fruits. It took the IPL this much time as well before the fitness, fielding standards became uniform

I don't really understand all this illogical criticism. It seems that fans want all players to be under 25 and every match to go down the wire, every bowler to take 5fers and every batsman to score 50s & 100s

Have a look at Domestic Cricket throughout the World, County is full of 35+ year olds. T20 blast is full of pie chuckers and mediocre spinners. Every Ranji Cricket Team in India has good quantity of players who have no chance of representing India or those players who have represented India in past but weren't good enough.

This is part and parcel of the game, some players are good in domestics but cannot translate same at international level. You can't kick out all 30+ players from the system. Opening two days of Nat T20 tournament have been full of quality, youngsters impressing across all 4 games.

Well said. While fielding standards and defensive bowling skills need improvement, the overall quality of cricket has improved leaps and bounds in the new 6 team system. Finally we're seeing the best Pakistani cricketers compete against each other.

In the old setup, we had about two or three departments hoarding the best players with the other teams being barely club level.

The likes of Hafeez, Malik, Wahab and Shafiq continuing to play domestic cricket isn't an issue as long as they're performing at domestic level. No domestic tournament in the world is composed entirely of kids. You need some experienced heads to guide them along. Whether they should play international cricket is a different matter.

Far from the fears youngsters wouldn't receive enough opportunities in the new setup, the opposite has happened. They've been the biggest beneficiaries as with fewer sides, there's greater scrutiny on the coaches to give them a chance. Abdullah Shafique, Zeeshan Malik, Haider Ali, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Musa Khan, Usama Mir, the U19 guys, and a host of other names are getting regular gametime.

For the first time since independence, Pakistan finally have a proper domestic setup so let's support it instead of nitpicking minor issues. Or should we return to the UBL vs WAPDA days where domestic cricket was treated with total indifference and neglect ?

Zeeshan Ashraf or bismillah at the moment rohail haant batted yet also harris hasnt been given a chance

Thier should be a blend of youngesters and seniors for example kpk have fakhar ifti hafeez malik we not saying get rid of all but youngesters need to be given a chance even if they fail atleast no one can complain

saw a bit of the game today and fielding didnt seem to bad, far less errors than previous games, perhaps a lot of the guys were rusty after the long break.

The names you mentioned have are from 1 or 2 teams who have picked them example mo wasims team but why cant the other coaches do the same and give youngesters a chance today rizwan opened and farhaan was made to play out of position

Balochistan are selecting Akif Javed, Amad Butt and Usama Mir.

The worst offenders are KPK and Sindh to be honest.

So many club level cricketers in this tournament

PCB has to invest a lot in grassroot to make it quality. Sorry to brust the bubble but 6 or 100 teams won't turn us into Australia/India. It is the improved grassroot cricket that will take us to the next level.

This is why i find a lot of complaints about cricketers and coaches being laid off in the new cricket structure laughable. Poor quality coaching in the academies, domestic teams and grass roots in the last 10-20 years is responsible for the poor club level cricketers you see in this tournament today.

India invested heavily in its grass roots in the 90's and it took them a good 10 years before they started showing the benefits

Kpk defo are the most disappointing team sindh slightly better today both azam Khan and Danish Aziz played today

Proper investment in grass roots cricket and actually having a quality infrastructure meaning top quality coaching and facilities if needs be send the domestic ones for training abroad for them to see the difference in routines/coaching there compared to Pakistan.

Coaching in Pakistan is one of the biggest problem as everyone has an ego and agenda and just won't listen to anything at all.

Criticism should be able to be heard and actually taken on board rather than being defensive about things.

T20 is not the place to judge quality - so far, only few of the games were soup, even then one of those had a score of 240+. There were few very close games, tight defending of total or bold chase..... that’s what it matters in T20. Only thing I am upset is that they are really fuelling PP hype brigade - apart from Auckland, don’t think PAK stroke makers will get any smaller boundary than this one anywhere in world.

Except power hitting all points are valid...
Need to see off the extras..
Asad shafiq
Malik
Sad Naseem
I farhat
S khan
Ahsan ali....
Md irfan

Saw a couple of games highlights and I was sort of disappointed by the power hitting ability.
Forget about the ball landing into the crowd’s seating area, but if this wasn’t a 65ish meter boundary, there wouldn’t be many sixes.

Where is the POWER in power hitting?
Almost all of them guys looked feeble and technique-less batsmen using every last bit of energy to get the ball over the boundary for a six. No timing, no power and no technique.

And on the other hand , Pollard simply pushes the ball over the bowler’s head and it lands behind the side screen. What the heck?

Power hitting needs to have the right technique that is you need to have still head white hitting, play well both on front and back foot. Balance is the key, unfortunately 99% of our batsmen in domestic cricket lack that. Pakistani batsmen commit forward even before release of the ball, no wonder you see too many of cross batted sloggers aka tullaybaaz, can't play cut and pull like Indian batsmen

Such low quality batting in this tournament.

One issue that is a problem every year is that some players should be nowhere near this tournament, but are picked day in day out because of contacts they have within the system, political influence and/or people they know within PCB, which means they will not get dropped.

Fitness, lack of technique and power hitting, no game awareness.

These are major issues with this and our domestic cricket which they will never work on and develop a proper cricketing culture.

On top a lot of those who shouldn't be playing or near any of these teams are actually there playing due to their contacts and other reasons.

Defo fitness some of the fielding has been club level fielding ridiculous I'd say

Honestly this tournament has been a big disappointment.

No new spinner
No new fast fastbowler
Only Abdullah Shafique and Zeehan Malik given a chance in the top 4

No interest in this tournament anymore

A few thoughts from the Sindh v S Punjab game.

Very poor standard of fielding and fitness, dropped catches - the Sohail Khan one was simply terrible given he is an international cricketer.

The bright spot was Khushdil - so we must ask ourselves the question why he wasn't given more opportunities against England or Australia.

Aside from the fielding, the standard of cricket has been very high.
High quality pitches have allowed for great cricket and entertainment.

Finally saw some solid hits by Danish Aziz and Hassan Khan in Match 18.
Those power hits had better class than the over all batting quality of Khushdil Shah's century.

The fielding sadly remains a huge problem in Pakistan cricket and this is largely due to the very poor standard of fitness and agility. A lot of the players are not athletes compared to cricketers from many other nations.

I haven't even watched a ball of this tournament and only know what's happening due to PP threads.

How anyone can watch this tournament over the IPL is beyond me. No surprise to see a thread critical of the standard of cricket.

It’s not really that surprising, IPL likely has better cricket considering it has international players but for Pakistanis this offers a chance to look at upcoming talent so I am sure there are some that have watched this over the Indian PSL.

Most of "upcoming talent " won't even be selected by Misbah. Also succeeding in this tournament doesn't exactly mean much due to its poor quality. And T20 tournaments shouldn't be used as a metric to select for test matches and even ODIs.

You yourself have made the validity of your opinion known by telling us you have not watched a single ball of the competition.

So it is better for you to not bad mouth our tournaments with your entitled comments, and just go visit your much cherished IPL threads.

People like me and some of the others around here, who take ownership of our cricket, and have been doing so for years, can clearly spot that the standard of cricket is much improved, with things looking upwardly mobile.

I never said any of that. I simply said NT20 fun to watch cause of the young talent on display. T20 tournaments should be for entertainment and this league has been pretty entertaining so far.

Good point, I haven’t watched a ball of the Indian PSL that’s why I do not comment on it. It’s weird to judge something without even watching a moment of it.

This I watched highlights of this tournament to see how Akif and other young bowlers are bowling but its not much of a bowlers tournament :)

Never watched IPL after the pak players ban because I cant watch cricket without any Pakistani in the match except for sometimes ICC finals

The batting and bowling has been decent

The fielding and fitness of the domestic players has been shockingly exposed and completely below par wrt international cricket. The local coaches and fitness trainers need to be made accountable for this

Lol, I have watched this tournament over the IPL because my loyalty is with Pakistan regardless of the weakness in this tournament

I've never seen a tournament with worse fielding EVER!

Club cricket is better here in UK.

Fielding needs a lot of work, but Atiq uz Zaman has indicated that the PCB is very much working on this.

I think, people will watch this tournament for a reason that it’s PAK’s own tournament, local players are playing and everyone has some favourites, some known players as well. Also, this tournament is based on some area demarcation- that creates locality based loyalty. Quality is one thing, but sports support often isn’t based on quality or results - in that case Scanthrope United or Execeter City won’t have a single fan. I also follow results of my local clubs based on the loyalty more than anything else, keeping the eye on few years individuals as well.

However, regarding the quality I think only fielding is getting exposed here because that has a set measurable standard - people can compare. What can’t be compared is the relative things - batsmen are batting against the bowlers of this tournament or vice verse, therefore it could be misleading though T20 isn’t the best tool to measure quality in any case. I think, from the scorecards what I have seen is a bit of concerning - let’s be honest with us, there are only two PAK cricketers these days that’ll draw any concerns among opponents .... and the way both have toyed with their counterparts (with bat & ball), probably gives an indication that the bowling or batting won’t be far apart from fielding.

Negatives...
Poor fielding ....regulation catches going down....All the boundary riders of various teams baring Anwar Ali are ridiculous and bowl escapes through them miraculously...

Poor fitness esp the Sindh players look like any moholla player......

Camera work has improved but there is still plenty room to develop...

Positives...
Good hitters like Khushdil Azam Hasan Danish Zeeshan are performing...
New batsmen like Abdullah Haider Ali showing their class...
Rizwan Haider played some good cameos
Rohail Nazir did decent till now......
Of bowlers Akif Javed Musa Rauf Arshad looking good...Hasnain looked good in some matches ..
Nothing to say about Saheen ..Shadab
Usman Qadir baring last match bowled well..

Looking forward to...
Bangash...
Qasim
Zeeshan Malik .....

Exciting times indeed

We keep hearing this and nothing happens.

Even Jonty Rhodes wouldn't be able to improve the standard of fielding of some of these 'athletes'.

The drive should come from within....only improving fitness won't do

I agree, it’s a culture issue. Good news is that Pakistani kids these days are looking up to the likes of Kohli, Babar, Shadab, and Imam as far as fitness goes and that shows the culture is starting to shift.

That “natural shift” will obviously require time. But what PCB can do is introduce outside catalysts, which is exactly what they are doing in the form of a fitness ratings system. It will highlight good fielders and provide positive affirmations to continue fielding well, and single out the atrocious fielders for losing their sides the game.

The OP is questioning the standard of the cricket. He has watched it so I'm happy to believe him.

I have seen low quality cricket in the PSL so it wouldn't shock me and it's totally believable that this tournament has a low quality of cricket.

Domestic cricket quality is so good yet we are rubbish in all 3 formats lol.

Don't see you making such comments when Pakistan fans who have said they have never watched the IPL call it low standard and other names.

Wonder if that is because I am a supporter and a well wisher of Pakistan Cricket.

The fans who call it low standard are making proper arguments etc.

Aren't you a fan of good quality cricket as well?

How can a tournament with the best players in the world be a low standard? That is not a proper argument.

Fielding has been terrible but apart from that throughly enjoying the tournament.

I don't know why our ipl fan boy getting triggered for no reason

It looks like everyone was rusty and now they are in the groove. The batting and bowling is good now, just the fielding but even the fielding is getting gradually better.

This is good practise before Zimbabwe series

I expect Shadab to be the standard bearer for Pakistan in the field and set a new standard for the youngsters to aim for. Already he has moments like his catch of Kohli in the CT final and his brilliant diving run out in the PSL which stand out.

Plus the other key players for us like Babar and Shaheen are generally good in the field and put the effort in so that is a good sign.

Wow, you are so insightful.
Tbh, your depth of vision is literally zero. You cannot and will not see any progress being made in front of you until it produces a quantifiable output. And that is when you will need a good dry cleaned handkerchief to wipe off all the eggs on your face.

That is how much of a poor reader of the game you are.
And those reading skills are probably not as bad because you cant comprehend the game, but rather because you have a pathetic attitude of disowning your team's journey towards improving itself, which people like us can easily spot.

So please dont visit these threads to bestow us with your toxic ignorance.
The IPL threads await your fair weather allegiances.

Our players always raise their game when their is big contracts and money at stake. If you put the same players in the PSL, they would bat, bowl and field better.

I will comment whoever I want. Don't tell me where I can and can't comment.

Do you want me to say Pakistan is progressing when they are towards that bottom in ODIs and test rankings lol?

A true supporter highlights the flaws of his team and not just be a cheerleader just for the sake of it. I want the best from my team and for them to be consistent.

If you can't handle a non positive opinion, don't quote me.

Fumbling and dropping the easy catches is surely not expected but those who are criticizing the fielding standard (which is obviously low) please also know that these are hard, dry and rough outfields.

A saw a poor player dived on the boundary yesterday, and noticed a huge puff of dust flying up. These are injury prone conditions that keep the fielders a little cautious, and I don’t blame them.

I called you out for not having any depth of vision, and your comment about our rankings just underpins that. Thankyou, because you just illustrated how much of a surface viewer you are.

And as for your so called positive criticism; you come up to tell us how bad our tournament is, admittedly without even watching a single ball. That is not an example of positive criticism, but rather of a dissing and disowning attitude.
So better luck next time for selling yourself as a supporter; which you quite frankly are not.

This is just the 2nd season of newly reformed structure, also rubbish is a very relative term. If we use the same criteria for others than half of the cricketing world is rubbish in one format or another.

Okay I have no depth of vision because I don't think this tournament is a high standard.

I was going off what the OP said. It doesn't surprise me such a thread has been made .

Why are you getting so defensive about my opinion? It's actually hilarious how you are defending this tournament like you have invested your own money it. :))) :)))

I will judge the whole structure in a few years. I was just referring to this tournament.

Me judging this tournament doesn't reflect mu opinion on every single domestic tournament. Don't get where you have gotten that from.

A true supporter won't give LOLZ reaction to its team's rankings..... So don't think us as fool like u........even to be good critic you need to watch a film read a novel/book and it's same for a cricket match too......wheather it's a international
Match or a domestic match(yes if it is televised and also streamed live on youtube).

We are not ignoring the negatives the low fitness level and poor fielding but even for that you have to watch the match.....

Pakistan is ranked 6th, finished the WC at no 5th, I am not sure how its the bottom unless we are saying that teams below are not even in the table. Teams on no 5th and 6th are just 6 and 7 points ahead of Pak.

There is no denying Pak team has been struggling against top teams in bilaterals and needs to improve in tests as well. However, I dont remember seeing the posts that Pak has the best domestic structure in the world when Pak was ranked no 1 in tests for short period or won CT 17 or that PSL is the best league when Pak was no 1 in the T20 rankings for some years because, as per your comments are giving impression that rankings and domestic tournaments quality is directly related.

Irrespective of current rankings or past achievements, I guess most will agree that Pakistan domestic structure needed and overhaul and its the step in the right direction as players, coaches actually have to perform and fight for their spot in the limited teams when a lot of mediocre performers were given a free ride in previous domestic structure not only making the quality low but also decreasing the willingness of the players to improve themselves.

A good domestic structure brings in consistency and this is is just the 2nd season with new structure. We have to give it time before we can see results appearing. City associations and grass root structure are still being developed.

Okay I have no depth of vision because I don't think this tournament is a high standard.

I was going off what the OP said. It doesn't surprise me such a thread has been made .

Why are you getting so defensive about my opinion? It's actually hilarious how you are defending this tournament like you have invested your own money it. :))) :)))
I am a tax payer of this country and this is my country's tournament.
Why shouldn't I defend it from someone who disses it under the garb of being a supporter, but is actually an ignorant fair weather vagant.

Most boundary riders apparently have problems sighting the ball under lights too.... May be light needs to improved ....

My word!! The fielding is atrocious! How can so many such fielders be in the team . . the gulf between Pakistan main plaayers and others is enormous! And then people like Kamran Akmal say "THis Mickey has ruined the culture of Pakistan by focusing on fitness and fielding" . . That's the culture . .

This is exaactly why I think 6 teams is right . . its goign to take time, but we need to eliminate a lot of these players . . esp the ones who are old and have no ambition to improve . .

But what makes it more sad is the fielding of some of the "young" players . . horrible!

I get the feeling that they really cant be bothered to improve.

This actually sounds true and I get the same gut feeling.

I mean, there may be a competition in displaying good batting and good bowling to impress the selectors, bog down the opposition, effort to become a hero etc but there doesn't seem to be any emphasis to stand out from rest of the lot based on your great fielding skills. No one seems to be recognized as a good fielder.
