Poor umpiring in the India vs England 2nd T20I

I was watching the match and witnessed shocking decisions one after another by one umpire. First it was Kohli who was plumb LBW, not given, then Yovraj awarded a life and perhaps the most vital one was Root's decisions who was given out , wrongly, when he almost had won the match for England.

I'm not saying only Indian umpires make the wrong decisions, this "honor" is shared by all test playing countries , including our own Pakistanis in the past not recently.

Was this the worst umpiring I have ever seen, probably not but certainly a strong contender for the "prize".
 
I keep saying it, nothing absolutely nothing can be worse than this


Considering the context of the game, India having been knocked out as well, I'm 100% convinced someone was in this guy's ear telling him to make Pakistan qualify at all costs :)), not possible to make an error this shocking

This was given out caught btw
 
Agreed. It was pretty dire.

Not the worst I've seen though. There were 2 howlers in the match (Kohli and Root), Yuvraj one wasn't as much a shocker.
 
third umpires should be allowed to interven if the decision is horrible just like they do for no balls but ICC is just stupid to understand this
 
Why is there no DRS for T20s?

ICC at it again. :))

Is there any sports body that is more foolish than ICC?

Shamshudhin is a very poor umpire so it's not surprising to she these decisions. At times it's like he's guessing.

T20s are supposed to be an action packed event without any interruptions. I feel it's the format whose result depends least on crucial decisions but this shocking umpiring is still not on

Sorry but there is absolutely zero justification against giving sides 1 DRS review per innings. It pauses a game for all of 60 seconds and prevents howlers.

How can you seriously feel that?

This is the format where one over can change the game.

Which means the difference between win and a loss is a decision against a rampaging bat.
 
It was a wrong decision, but hardly anything wrong goes against India these days.

Also this Bhumrah action looks suspect to me

Nothing can beat the Australian umpiring in one of our tours! And you can request a Pakistani umpire (when gets a chance to umpire an Indian match in near future) to call against Bumrah, let's see!

How about having an "automated third umpire" who intervenes in any sloppy decisions that looks on eyes & found wrong! That way third umpire becomes the most important umpire (instead of a mere viewer like us for most times). Only this can fulfill the 100% decision demands from us!

On the contrary I think value of a wicket is much lesser shorter the format . A team can lose a wicket in the same over and score few boundaries and in the end can have a good over in T20s , less likely in a ODI and very unlikely in a Test match .

What makes you think like that? He had one poor game. I was following him in Australia and he actually did a great job. Don't remember a bad decision. Don't you think you are a bit harsh on him?
 
DRS isn't as important in shortest format as opposed to the longer ones.

T20s have fewer caught behind or lbws

But still better to have drs
 
Thats just it. No one will dare question an Indian bowler for their bowling action regardless of their nationality. If you take pride in that, then there is nothing I can say

Problem is Pakistan fans want to have cake and eat it too. They say if bumrah/ashwin are clean then why not get tested. But for that umpires have to report But but umpires would never report Indian bowler. Let's assume they are tested and come out clean. Then Pakistan fans would say there is no smoke without fire.Why were they tested because they were chucking and Bcci=ICC influenced test result to clear them. Not going to happen. If umpires find them suspicious of chucking and report only then they are going to be tested. Sorry that's how it is. :faf

Make a complaint to icc and give the list of players that has to be tested according to pak fans

Its true that the value of wickets in the shortest format of the game is the least.

But not all wickets are considered the same.

Since T20 is more likely to produce nailbiting thrillers, a crucial decision at the right moment can change the fate of the game.

Take a decent sample of T20 games and you will see its true.

Pollard's wicket was the difference between CSK win and loss in IPL finals 2010.
Marlon Samuel's wicket was the difference between WI win and loss in World T20 finals.
Dhoni's skier not taken in IPL SF 2010 turned out to be the difference. Imagine packing him off with a wrong decision.
Countless times, Raina's wicket at a crucial juncture would have ensured CSK loss.
Marlon's wicket early on in World T20 finals 2016 would have killed the game.
Jadeja's wicket off no ball was the difference between CSK win and loss. Wrong decision would have changed the result.
Joe Root's wicket played a huge role in England's loss.
Gayle's wicket where he scored 35 runs off Rahul Sharma would have closed out the game against Pune.
Kohli's wicket against Aus World T20 would have eliminated India.

I could go on and on and on.

As you can see, a wrong decision in the crucial moment can impact T20 results a lot.
 
Yes bad decisions, but I doubt Root could have won the match, he was struggling out there. Nevertheless England should have won the match easily but they started the change too late.

On topic, don't get the fuss. There are more and blatant howlers being given in a match before.
 
Umpiring was definitely poor and helped the Indians.... but England still had chance to win !!!
 
OK..Root got a howler. Agreed. But it was still 8 from 5 with butler and Moeen at the crease. They lost by 5. Root and Morgan sucked the momentum out of their innings earlier
 
This kind of poor umpiring is rare now-a-days, as umpiring standard has improved in last 20--25 years.

In the past umpires were appointed and paid by the host boards and local umpirse used to do whatever they could to keep the board happy and the biased umpiring was common.

Now ICC appoints and pasy the umpires and they are ranked according to their performance and they are evaluated by host and visiting teams. They don't want to risk their career by biased umpiring. Hence you will never see Aleem Dar would give any advantage to Pakistani player, unlike our umpires from the past.

Shamsuddin , reminded me the " good old days " of umpiring and made many people in BCCI and outside very happy. His ranking in ICC will go down but will be a top pick for IPL.

So when everyone agrees that the decision was poor you go ahead and create a controversial twist blaming BCCI and claiming they have institutionalised this entire thing. Do you have any proof for this claim?
 
Indian umpires are horrible . But to include this BCCI and all those conspiracy theories are just lolworthy.

No I am not blaming BCCI at all here, wondering what Shamsuddin was thinking while performing such a "patriotic" job. Was he just carried away with his pro-Indian feeling or was he trying to make BCCI happy at the cost of his career with ICC.

Just been reported that the BCCI altered the original appointment to replace the umpire who didn't make a single error in the first game with Shamshuddin, despite him landing on a flight from Australia less than 24 hours before the game began.

Plot is unfolding, :yk2, this was not just another case of "poor umpiring", the series was on line. BCCI didn't want to play a dead game with series decided already.
 
Shamshuddin is decent. India has K.Ravi who is pretty good.

The rest of the Indian umpires like that Chaudhary guy who was officiating in the ODI series are appalling. These guys easily Miss on the inside edges.
 
Only reason England lost this game was because of the poor umpiring. Otherwise they are clearly the superior T20 team. Probaby the superior ODI team as well.
 
One would wonder why Morgan or Root never spoke about the umpiring decision that went their way of KL Rahul no-ball decision.

Or the fact Kohli should've been lbw yet again off the ball he got run out off :yk? Lucky that Jordan realised he was going to be denied his wicket yet again and went for the ball.

Test series they said England are the favourites ; Got walloped 4-0 with 4 tosses won by Cook

ODI series, they said England have more fire power and India will be lucky to win even one ; Got beaten 2-1 with 2 tosses won by Morgan.

T20I series, they said England will decimate India; Still managed to lose 2-1 after winning all the tosses.

Now 'they' are only left with 'ifs and buts' .
 
The most poor tourists we have seen in a long time won 8 tosses out of 11 ,had almost flat surfaces except 1 and people here said they will be the best before tests,ODI and now T20. Just Lol!

If England were really a better team in any format they would atleast have done their homework on legspin,remarkably poor,the way they crumbled under pressure in last 2 games and then even the last test is just mind boggling.

ODI was their only decent performance with somewhat close games and a good victory in the last where we bottled up to score 6 from 4.

It was barelely hitting the stumps. Also umpire has favoured England even before ball reached the batsman. Because it was a no ball by a inch. Shows who he was actually favouring. :smith
 
Kohli's decision almost cost nothing. Yuvi's was not that bad a call. Root was a bad call. But when i first saw he looked stone dead. Still a shocker. England still was favorite to win the match. Yes that decision probably cost the match. But i must say Root is not exactly reliable hitter in the last over of the match. He struggles to accelerate

Hussain kept saying Root needs to make contact with the ball no matter how - pad, bat whatever and give strike to Butler. Clearly had no faith in Root.
 
Umpires are human and they make mistakes just like any other human does. England lost due to their own incompetence. Shamshuddin is a terrific umpire one of the very best from India.
 
Still amused over the fact that England made such a hullabaloo over a couple of bad decisions in what was ultimately a pointless series.
 
England thought they had an awesome loi team and they may steal odi as well as t20 series.However it was just not hapenning. In frustration they had to resort to hullabaloo over poor umpire. The real source of frustration was actually not able to win much either in loi after tests and not umpiring.

India won solely because of umpiring errors. Rankings have nothing to do with this, genius.

Yes, India beat England. No one denied that. What is being debated here is the way in which they won, which quite clearly was because of umpiring errors.

India thumped England for 3 months.All people can talk about how Root,who was struggling got a bad decision.LOL.What did Buttler do next?Got bowled.

India won.Morgan can try as many excuses he can.Pretty standard from the English.
