We have a terrible record Vs India granted in T20 World cups,

However South Africa has never beaten us in World T20s (4 games),

We have a 5-2 winning record vs NZ,

competitive 3-4 vs Australia,

On the flip side,

India has NEVER beaten NZ in T20 World cups,
have a 1-3 losing record vs West indies.

Just swings and roundabouts guys, at the moment we have mental scarring when it comes to India, Similar to the deer in headlight look England get when they tour down under for the Ashes. The players are good, they just undergo mental disintegration playing India,

They have been led to believe thier whole career and reputation depends on thier perfomance vs India, and in a country where there is no state welfare and finding other career opportunities can be challenging , the pressure is understandable.

They need sports psychologists.

Sports psychologists will do jack if skill is not present. On evidence, we are far behind top teams.

Our batting is garbage and T20 team is all about being proficient in that part of the game.

The only positive is that we shouldn't feel too negative. This is the capability of this current batch of players ( including those on the bench).

Ok, maybe I start to feel a little bit positive, we're still the cup right! Then I look at players like Nawaz, Shadab and Shaheen etc and think nah...

Players are good? Like?
The players are good, before this game we whitewashed Oz at home. Can't do that with mediocre players,

Like I said we have a mental scarring vs you guys, it's a common sporting phenomenon.

For example , I can never beat my brother in Snooker (very rarely win the odd frame), even though our game is on a even keel. He has been beating me since I was 10 and he was 18, and that mental scarring has carried over till this day .

I obliterate other players , but my game breaks down vs my elder brother, I miss easy shots I would never miss against other opponents,

That's called mental scarring. My brain associates my brother with a snooker Loss , and loses all hope of winning and capitulates.

It's great that you obliterate other players, but didn't it take a miracle for Pakistan to survive Netherlands last week?

If not for a dolly of a drop by a Dutch fielder, Pakistan would have been out of this world cup by now. And this....after the first round exits in the last 3 ICC tournaments which includes humiliating loss to the USA on a flat true Dallas wicket.

It's rather convenient to hide behind the "mental disintegration against India" excuse but the issue lies much deeper than that. Pakistanis take white ball bilaterals way too seriously than they should be and they proceed to over-inflate their team's worth based on those performances. And when the reality dawns on them come the annual ICC tournament, it makes them feel shocked and shattered..it's all too old a story now.

and India were one drop catch away from a Loss vs America,

Like i said swings and roundabouts.

drop catches happen , Pakistan dominated 90% of the games versus Ned. the collapse was against the run of play actually, Faheem only brought back sanity in the situation.

However India were outplayed by USA in large parts of match,

I think we will come good, when we meet you guys again in the Final!

Not taking anything away from India, who are highly polished, phenomenal team. just that the game can produce up and down moments , especially in the shortest format.

If does not work, If Ishan got caught by Afridi India might have collapsed. Fact is India won and Pak lost. This thread is about being positive. We got to look forward, fact is Pak is still in the WC. What of course needs to be done is some changes and we all know which 3 players need to be dropped.

You dont need to contribute to this thread, guess its more related to Pak cricket fans.

And india were one drop catch away from a Loss vs America,

Umm...no we weren't.

We won that game by 30 runs.

Even if SKY got out on that catch, someone else would have consolidated and got us to a total which was enough against the USA batting.

OTOH, it was over for Pakistan had Faheem was caught.

Looks like you got hurt..and if this is how sensitive Pak fans are to constructive criticism, no wonder your team is in this garbage pile.

And it looks like you did not read my post completely. OP cited "mental blockage" as the main reason why Pak lost against India, which is not true at all no matter how you look at it. There is a vast gap in the skill-set of both the teams... India played barely to the half of their potential yesterday, and we were still able to demolish you. And Pakistan have been below par in the last 3 ICC tournaments as well and couldn't qualify for even a single SF. This is a skill issue mainly...not a mental one as is being portrayed in the OP.

I wont get ''hurt'' over a game. Of course losing against India is always different, but its still a game. Any sane Pak cricket follower knows very well the (lack) of quality in the team. Same like not being blinded by JAMODIs results. I do not believe in mental blockage. Again WC is still on. Lets see how we (PCT) goes from here.

2017 ct group game you were demolished in group game and won the finals. I know its 9 years back but anything can happen. If pak qualifies for semis, they will be rejuvenated and can beat anyone on their day. Babar, shaheen, nawaz will have a major feather in their caps. Plus you play all matches in lanka. You can win the trophy and india can lose in super 8. So, everyone should wait for few days

People are definitely overreacting and getting emotional. There is still alot to play for in this tournament. It's not a good team by any stretch of the imagination but in these tournaments momentum and conditions play a big part too. Pakistan yesterday didn't turn up mentally and just got run over by a far better and more professional opposition. As always the players let the occasion get to them rather than focusing on what they do well. Pakistan are better than this and definitely capable of beating all three teams in their Super 8 group. But if they don't get their act right and don't start playing to their potential soon it could be curtains very soon.

Get your point and to be fair, people with knowledge do not expect them to win. What we expect is selecting players on merit. Let us hope this will be the case going forward starting Wednesday.

If this was a one off for the likes of Babar, Shaheen, Shadab, Nawaz and Co I would have understood, but these senior players have let us down against India repeatedly for close to a decade. Forget Australia, do you think India would repeatedly persist with a tried and tested senior troika for this long?

Things are so bad that even Shahid Afridi is calling for Shaheen to be benched

Wow many revelations...never knew about such a strong record against Saffers. Will end soon for sure.

Definitely Pakistan lost their first group match against India in CT 2017. After that match, Pakistan bowling proved to be their winning combination and could collectively choke the batting of the teams which played against them. Hassan Ali, Junaid Khan and Mohammed Amir did very well. Hassan Ali could dry up the runs in the middle overs. Where are these players these days? Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan were also doing well. If the team could get a menacing bowling combination, they could win every match.

No one can defend SSA anymore. By far the most pathetic out of the lot and that means you are really bad!

SSA was not there in CT17. There are players on the bench that can replace him easily. I mean even playing with 10 instead of Afridi will help. He is going at like 15 an over on bowling pitches!

Babar azam disintegrates against any good opposition

Thanks to the graceful indians commenting.

Let's get back on the saddle boys, I've had my biriani and the optimism for the tournament is growing again within me...

Suddenly my mind thinks that the boys were unlucky, maybe we can go again and play better , maybe they played worse because the game had nothing on the line so we didn't play with our usual "Jazba" "Junoon" , and now my Himmat is not haared.

Here I go again, mind in full cope mode ,justifications galore , Back on the Pak cricket carousel , hooked up to a defibrillator.

Let's go Pak! Super 8s here we come . Namibia be gone

Dil Dil Pakistan !!!!

I know Indian fans are very happy and Pakistani fans are dejected after the embarrassing loss, but if you look at the remaining tournament and teams playing super 8 and advancing to the SF, Ind being in a tough group with Aus, SA and WI, may not even make it to the SF. Pakistan on the other hand, will be in a relatively easier group (with Eng, SL, NZ) are more likely to make it to the SF with their strong spin attack which may be too much for these three teams to handle. Just imagine how this forum will be if Pakistan advances to SF and Indi doesn't :). Strange things can happen. Pakistan may even go all the way and win the trophy.

Thats the spirit!

Absolutely!

Infact I will go all the way and say that it's our tournament to lose from here ,

We are favorites from this point , considering the conditions and spin attack.

We also have very dominant records vs South Africa and New Zealand.

We've already won the tournament, just need to cross the T's and dot the I's.

(slightly tongue in check, just slightly)

Babar azam disintegrates against any good opposition

haha he is just not good enough. Judge a batter by his performances in red ball vs world class teams/bowlers. His record in red ball is poor, given the fact he plays more often then not on flat tracks.

Surprised no one has mentioned Pakistan fielding which, but for the attention grabbing misfield and fumble by Shadab (IIRC), was actually very good.

It’s been a long time, possibly never, since I’ve seen an outstanding Pakistani fielding side. The way they flung themselves at the ball, their catching, throw ins were very good.

That implies effort, discipline and desperation among players to do well.

It also means someone is doing something well in the background.

Come to think of it, given the drops by India, your side’s fielding possibly edged ours. Of course Ishan came out of syllabus!

I’ll add to the above. I believe possibly that Pakistan isn’t done in this WC, not by a long shot.

I’ve been seeing the other teams in this competition, and it still is anyone’s cup.

Should be kicked to the curb for sure. But after this tournament

The one positive is they haven't optimized their XI yet.

What they've rolled out so far is not the best possible combination out of this squad. They need to learn from what happened against India and make adjustments that are more focused on recent form (Mirza) and batting quality.

It might not be enough to win the cup, but it will help them in the coming days.

1) Sahibzada Farhan
2) Saim Ayub
3) Fakhar Zaman
4) Salman Ali Agha
5) Usman Khan
6) Khawaja Nafay
7) Shadab Khan
8) Mohammad Nawaz
9) Faheem Ashraf
10) Naseem Shah
11) Salman Mirza

This is the most balanced playing eleven i can think off we can prepare from the squad of 15 that has been selected

8 aggressive batters, 3 pace options, 4 spin options. Most importantly you don't have two confirmed walking tail enders at Number 10 and 11.

Here is my optimistic post for you Pak folks..Still Asia Cup is with your Naqvi Saab..which prove that you don't have to win the matches to earn the trophy..Naqvi Saab is already working on plan B- Trophy heist..so don't give up hopes..
