Possibilities of Bangladesh cricket team's success in 2019 World Cup

Mashrafe Mortaza, the Bangladesh captain, said he wouldn't concentrate on personal milestones to avoid "any extra pressure" at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, but believes his team can do "something extraordinary".

The 35-year-old confirmed the 2019 World Cup would be his last, but that doesn't mean he will attach more weight to the tournament and heap pressure on himself. Instead, he will consider it as "just another big tournament".

"This is definitely my last World Cup," he said on Monday, 29 April. "I have to perform as a player, and of course, my role as captain is going to be important too. I have to fulfill my duties, but there's nothing more I can do. I don't have any personal goals. I never want to take any extra pressure.

"I am a believer in luck, so what is meant to happen, will happen. It's also not that I will do any extra preparation. It's just another big tournament for us and we want to play well to make it memorable. Nothing is impossible, but it will be very important for us to handle the ups and downs."

Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicket-keeper batsman, recently said this Bangladesh squad was the best they have sent to a World Cup. Mortaza remains wary of such claims, though, and pointed out that their squads that contested the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and Asia Cup 2018 were similar.

"It's the same team apart from one or two players, which has been playing together for the last two-three years but we don't have any trophy to show even though we played some finals," he said.

"The team didn't do anything so significant in the meantime that they should have been termed as the best team. This kind of tag creates unnecessary pressure on the players. I don't want to say it's the best team but yes, we are going to play the World Cup with our best available team. That's it."

The World Cup, beginning on 30 May, will involve each team playing the other nine participants in a robin-round format, with the top four sides qualifying for the semi-finals. Squad depth, therefore, is likely to be key.

"No doubt this World Cup is going to be tougher for us because of the format," said Mortaza. "But I still believe we are capable of doing something extraordinary. Just we need to start the tournament on a good note. We need to take it match by match rather than thinking too far."

This guy is a brilliant spokesperson & I am sure he’ll become a cabinet minister some days. Education does help, but more than it’s the reading habit that keeps a man improving his persona - despite being a pro cricketer, this guy has completed MBA (with a poor CGPA, it took him almost eternity), writes in local media and he talks lots of sense. I am sure he is extremely tense inside, but he won’t ever put extra pressure on himself & his team.

Once he retires, I am sure we’ll struggle to fill in that pair of boots, may not be as a player, but you hardly get a better leader than Mash. Whatever the performance in WC Captain, I wish you a great retirement - you’ll leave with your head high.

When Bangladesh eventually become cricket's leader, this man will be owed a lot.

No doubt Bangladesh is capable of making semis. They made semis by beating Australia I believe in CT just two years ago. You just need a few players to play at their best! That being said, Bangladesh start as underdogs in every single game except Afg, and maybe 50-50 vs SL and WI (though I'd bet against them).

It was NZ. Also BD have a chance but the format is tough as they have to play every team, unlike the CT.

This format is too tough for Bd/Current SL/AFG and even WI and possibly PAK to get to the next round. CT, couple of wins here and there and bam, semi final. But here, mini 5-6 games needs to be won for a chance to qualify. If weather comes into play, maybe less but still thats a bit of a daunting task. Even the top 5 will have their work cut out.

Bangladesh has just annihilated west indies in the practise match they have played against them in the ongoing tri series that's going on between WI, BD and ire.

This has further solidified my belief that Bangladesh will do wonders in the upcoming wc.

If we can play to our full potential we will easily beat WI, Pak, Afg, SL in the main event as well. Then we will have to just sneak out couple of wins against NZ(against whom we have historically played well), possibly against SA/Ind abd we will be in the semi. Its not actually as hard as it seems.

We have what it takes to be in the semis. We just have to field our full strength team and play to our full potential.

You're just delusional

With the bowling attack you have , you can't even come close to competing with SA/Ind , let alone winning against them. I'll bet on it that the highest team total in the WC will be against Bangladesh.

and pray that others don't field their full strength team and don't play to their full potential. This is essential.

Bangladesh did not play with Tamim and Shakib in Asia Cup, still beat full strength Pakistan, SL, Afg and came close to winning it.

And ignore Rainman's post, his job is to rile up other fans and bring some hate on BD maybe he enjoys seeing BD getting bashed. I highly doubt he is a BD fan himself

An excellent win for one of the most exciting teams in the world. They have exponentially increased their chance of reaching the semifinal by beating one of the hot favourites of this world cup.

Their next target should NZ or Ind. Victory against NZ won't be that difficult to achieve especially considering how dominant BD has always been against them. As for India, their middle order is extremely vulnerable.

If our boys play to their full potential and umpires remain neutral it is very likely that we'll reach semifinal of this world cup.

All the best tigers.

My friend, first one is done.

Second one is on the list.

I m just concerned about umpiring.

India middle order is not extremely vulnerable. It's just our top three are way too better than any other Nation on planet, closely followed by England might be. So comparative to top order ,our middle order is weak. But saying extremely vulnerable well. India won odi series recently in South Africa, Australia and competitive in England. N. O 2 side in the world for a reason.

Umpires have always been neutral like recently in Asia cup.
If india also play up to their potential. Dnt see any team beating india.

There's a reason why Bangladesh is a minnow because fans like you will chest thump on a single win and blame everyone other than your players when they lose,It's a mentality that seem widespread among bangladeshis and no surprise the team plays like one and they're an developing cricket for over two decades with nothing special to show off
