Possible Pakistan Test Squad(s) for 2019/20

It is way too early for Shah, who is physically nowhere near ready for international LO cricket let alone test matches. We have Shaheen and Hasnain already, who should be coupled with the likes of Abbas and Hasan (if he fails again then there can be serious talk of dropping him).

I remember Yamin from his short international stint and he did not ignite any level of excitement in me. Maybe he can be selected as part of the squad but I don't see any huge advantage of having him around.

Yamin is a really good batsmen.

I will concede I do not watch FC cricket as I am unable to here in England, so I will take your word for it but from what I saw of him on the international stage, he did not fit the part.

At least we can have a fast bowling AR option in test cricket but in all honesty, I would prefer Shadab to compliment Shah.

At the very least he is on par with Faheem in bowling department and can also bowl the new ball. And the less we talk about Faheem's batting the better. Yamin has an ODI fifty to his name, he can hit those sixes when needed.

Had the time and money been invested in Yamin instead of Faheem, by now Yamin would've had few match winning performances under his belt.

There is no comparison between the 2, Yamin is miles ahead in batting and bowling.

In the very few internationals he has played, he has made more of an impact Feheem has made with bat and ball. Yamin's FC stats are superior to Faheem's stats. Yamin is a genuine batsman, not a hack. Also swings he new ball.

I am all for Yamin being in the squad if the rumours of how good he is with the bat are true. At least there would be some change to the old guard.

Rizwan
Shan
Babar
Haris
Imam
Azhar
Sami
Omair
Asad
Shadab
Bilal Asif/Zafar
Abbas
Hasan
Shaheen
Naseem/Sameen

Squad should be something like this imo.

Really interesting squads by everyone...and most have a common theme - it is time for a changing of the guard. Azhar, Asad, Sarfraz need to go. It is rare to come to an easy conclusion in a thread on here haha

He is the best Fast bowling AR we have atm. Although I would love to see someone young emerging like Abdul Razzaq.

Another Razzaq or Mehmood would be a revelation right now. I think that is the key part missing from this current LOs side.

He is a good batsmen no doubt, he is far superior than Asif Ali and ifti chacha and he can actually swing the new ball, he can bowl 6/7 overs and can provide reliability and fire power at 6.

Yamin won't build a career for Pakistan, because he doesn't fill the criteria to play for Pakistan

My guess

Imam
Shan Masood
Azhar Ali
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Sarfraz Kaptaan
All Rounder?
Yasir Shah
Hasan Ali
Abbas
Shaheen

What exactly does that mean, doesn't make sense.

Yamin won't build a career for Pakistan, because he doesn't fulfill the criteria (i.e, mediocrity) to play for Pakistan. Asad, Azhar,Faheem are there because they are mediocre. Amin is a real capable all rounder, so he will remain outside the raddar of Misbah and co. Even if he is selected he will be discarded after just 1 or 2 failure

Oh ok. I hope that doesn't happen but that has been the story of his career so far.

Tbh. Afridi and Razzaq were filling the lower order so good. Their batting won us many games and we have no one atm that can do that.

In the wake of the test squad announcement, here is the team I would go for -

1. I. ul Haq
2. Abid Ali
3. A. Ali c
4. B. Azam
5. H. Sohail
6. M. Rizwan wk
7. Y. Shah
8. K. Bhatti
9. S. Afridi
10. M. Abbas
11. M. Khan

Not exactly the rejuvenated, balanced side I would have wanted as per my OP but there are two spinners, which I think is key against Aus and then a collection of pace and experience with the fast bowler collection.

All in all, looking at that side, it looks so fragile.

Why is Yasir batting above Kashif Bhatti in this lineup? Surely Bhatti is much better with the bat than Yasir.

One question. Why would you play 2 spinners in Australia? Your better off playing Kashif at 7 then add Naseem. I would always play Naseem ahead of Musa. He looks better and has performed better in domestic and U19. Also Misbah has basically confirmed Naseem will play.

Because Australia, especially the current Australia are horrible with spin (bar Smith of course). I mean really, really bad. Why not play into that weakness?

Do you remember what happenned to our spinner last time? He got 1 wicket and got smashed.

Asian spinners rarely do well in Australia

That spinner also had to bowl 150 overs in just 5 innings, no one else had that workload. The hwole point of a leggy is to be an attacking option, not someone to hold up an end. With two spinners, you have have the attacking option rotate around, while the holding spinner (Bhatti) holds up an end. It is very simple, match winning captaincy....which is another issue. The captain a couple years back had no idea how to deal with an attacking leg spinner.

As I always say, if you want to watch a captain understand leg spin, watch Eoin Morgan. Misbah clearly was not sure what he wanted, was it wickets or containment? With two spinners it makes it easier for Ali AND it allows Shah to be captained like Rashid is for England in the ODI set up.

As clueless as it gets. On Australian wickets, they murder spin bowling .

Low quality spin maybe but the current batsmen are atrocious, bar Smith. This is a test side that can be exploited for its weaknesses. Don't get me wrong, if Pakistan had a variety of pace bowlers and a possible pace bowling all rounder then go with that but this is an attack of semi experience Abbas who may have fully recovered from injury, Shaheen who could be a prodigy who is barely past teenagehood and debutants. In that line up you need to build some variety and have spinners in that would help.

The problem is that the current captain is equally as defensive, he is almost a carbon copy of Misbah. I doubt he would use Yasir to attack rather than defend.

I think that's true but I am hoping against hope...like I keep saying and I know I sound like a broken record but he should watch Morgan captain Rashid, the perfect example of a modern day captain-legbreak relationship.
