There is renewed hope that Naseem Shah will do well for Pakistan based upon his recent performances and his performances have been analyses succinctly by Grunge101 in our POTW

Congratulations!

He's slowly beginning to realize his true potential. We saw shades of it when he debuted in Australia but he was way too raw back then.

Changes I've noticed in him in the last 18 months.

1. Decrease in pace
He's not trying to bowl as fast as he can, instead he's also concentrating on other skills. His Average speed in Australia and England test series was 144-145 km/hr(which was faster than any Aussie bowler and even Archer) with the effort ball being 148-149. Recently though he's dropped down. He's more around 140 now with the peak speed around 145.

2. His length has improved day and night. He used to primarily bowl on the shorter side but now he's pitching it up more and more.

3. hes developed the ability to swing the ball occasionally. His dismissal of O'doud in the first ODI was an example of that. The ball ducked in the air significantly before crashing into the pads at 90mph

He's far from a finished product yet but Ive always rated him very highly..hopefully he can continue to develop further month after month and provide Shaheen with much needed support from the other end.

Good and well written post but I would still disagree with the poster.

We have been on this before. Naseem makes his debut against Australia, turns out to be not good enough. Plays against a weak Bangladesh(or was it SL) side and picks up a hattrick, we say look at the potential he is ready bla bla, only to get exposed again against a strong opposition.

The cycle repeats itself as he took 10 wickets against Netherlands, we forget its a weak opposition and for them he might be a difficult bowler, but same guy struggles against good teams.

Harris Rauf and Dhani are still better bowlers than him.

Acid test will be the India Pak match. If he can do something like what Shaheen did, then he will get himself a good amount of rope across formats to develop.

If he fizzes out there then he will remain fringe bowler

Yes - true test is vs India; Just needs to hold his own in Dubai, and I hope they take his catches

Pakistan really need a 2nd pacer to start performing and take the pressure off Shaheen to win every match. Here's hoping Naseem can develop into that player.
