A powerful explosion ‘targeting foreign nationals’ just outside the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi left two people dead and eight wounded on Sunday evening, rescue officials and Sindh home minister said. At least eight vehicles were damaged in the explosion.

Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport was rocked by a massive explosion at around 11:00pm on Sunday. Initial reports suggested that an oil tanker had exploded.

However, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Lanjar confirmed to Iqtidar Anwar of Aaj News that the blast occurred near the vehicle of foreign nationals.

“The blast occurred at a place where a bomb squad waits for its visitors and takes them to their destination,” he said.

There were reports that two foreign delegates were about to arrive in the city. One of the security convoys was waiting at the Gharial Chowk for the vehicle. The second convoy was inside the airport.

Qaiser Kamran of Aaj News reporting from the scene said that an explosion occurred on a road that leads out of the airport to the Sharae Faisal. The location where the explosion occurred is often used by VIPs to park their vehicles with guards.

The person who died was a local driver, said rescue officials.

According to rescue officials, the condition of three out of the nine wounded people was serious. Six injured were taken to the Jinnah hospital and three to the private infirmary.

The nearest Shamsi Hospital treated four people, including three rickshaw drivers.

Lanjar also said that one of the injured was a foreign national.

Shockwaves from the explosion were felt several kilometres away in Defence and Gulshan-e-Hadeed. A great cloud of smoke billowed out of the oil tanker hovering next to the airport.

Just can attack on PTI supporters but can’t protect where needed, absolute duds the establishment.

Oh my goodness. We take one step forward and two steps back when it comes to these sorts of attack.

The dead were probably low ranked security personnel. Inna lilahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon

Baloch Liberation Army claims it carried out vehicle-borne attack targeting Chinese nationals.

At least one person was killed and 10 injured in an explosion near the international airport of the southern Pakistani city of Karachi on Sunday night, local media reported.

The nature of the blast was not immediately clear, the broadcaster Geo News cited a provincial official as saying. He said at least one foreigner had been injured and that a convoy of foreigners was close to the explosion.

In a statement emailed to journalists, the separatist militant group Baloch Liberation Army claimed the explosion was an attack carried out by them using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device targeting Chinese nationals, including engineers.

Karachi police did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Also it says - The BLA seeks independence for the province of Balochistan, located in Pakistan’s south-west and bordering on Afghanistan and Iran. In August, it launched coordinated attacks in the province, in which more than 70 people were killed.

So why is Pak not supporting the freedom self determination struggle of Balochs like it supports Kashmir self determination ? Why the duplicity here ? They should first hold a plebiscite in Balochistan and show the world its integrity and sincerity. The world is waiting.

Blast kills two Chinese near Pakistan's Karachi airport

Two Chinese nationals have been killed and at least 10 people injured in a suspected suicide attack near Karachi airport in Pakistan.

A third body, not yet officially identified, is thought to be that of the attacker, the BBC understands.

The Chinese embassy in Pakistan said the explosion on Sunday night was a "terrorist attack" targeting a convoy of Chinese engineers working on a power project in Sindh province.

The separatist Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which has in recent years carried out attacks on Chinese nationals involved in development projects in Pakistan, has said it carried out the attack.

In a statement released on Monday, the militant group said it had "targeted a high-level convoy of Chinese engineers and investors" arriving from Karachi airport.

A later statement from the group described it as a suicide attack, and named the perpetrator as Shah Fahad, part of a BLA suicide squad called Majeed Brigade.

The attack was carried out using a "vehicle-borne improvised explosive device", Reuters news agency quoted the BLA as saying.

The explosion happened around 23:00 local time (17:00 GMT) on Sunday.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the attack a "heinous act" and offered his condolences to the Chinese people.

"Pakistan stands committed to safeguarding our Chinese friends," he wrote on X.

The Chinese embassy said that the engineers were part of the Chinese-funded enterprise Port Qasim Power Generation Co Ltd, which aims to build two coal power plants at Port Qasim, near Karachi.

Thousands of Chinese workers are in Pakistan, many of them involved in creating an economic corridor between the two countries as part of Beijing’s multibillion dollar Belt and Road Initiative.

The Port Qasim plant is part of the corridor, along with a number of infrastructure and energy projects in Pakistan's Balochistan province, which has a rich supply of natural resources, including gas and minerals.

The BLA along with other ethnic Baloch groups has fought a long-running insurgency for a separate homeland.

It has regularly targeted Chinese nationals in the region, claiming ethnic Baloch residents were not receiving their share of wealth from foreign investment in the province and natural resources extracted there.

The Chinese embassy on Monday reminded its citizens and Chinese enterprises in Pakistan to be vigilant and to "do their best to take safety precautions". The embassy added that it hoped Pakistan would thoroughly investigate the attack and "severely punish the murderer".

The blast was reportedly heard in various areas around the city, with footage from local media showing thick smoke and cars set alight.

Pictures online show security officials and firefighters investigating the explosion site, with several vehicles charred by the blast.

A police surgeon, Dr Summaiya told Dawn news: "Ten injured persons, including one in critical condition, have been brought the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College [JPMC]."

She added the injured included a police constable and a woman.

A statement posted on X from Sindh's Interior Minister's office said that a "tanker truck" had exploded on Airport Road. Roads leading to Jinnah International Airport were sealed off following the attack, but the airport is functioning as usual on Monday.

There has also been heightened security in Pakistan as it prepares to host the leaders' summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

There have been multiple attacks on Chinese nationals in Pakistan in recent years. The BLA has claimed responsibility for several of them, including an attack in March on a Pakistani naval airbase near Gwadar port, another main feature of the China-Pakistan economic corridor.

In April 2022, the group killed three Chinese tutors and a Pakistani driver in a suicide bombing near Karachi University's Confucius Institute.

In November 2018, gunmen killed at least four people in an attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.

Security, well-being of Chinese friends to be ensured at all costs: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Monday, strongly condemned Sunday night's attack in Karachi, which resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and the injury of another.

He stated that the culprits behind this heinous act could not be Pakistanis but were enemies of the state.

Expressing his deep sorrow over the tragic incident, the prime minister extended his heartfelt condolences to China's leadership, its people, and especially to the families of the victims. He also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Sharif emphasized that an immediate investigation is underway to identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

Deeply shocked and saddened by last night’s tragic incident in Karachi, resulting in the loss of two precious Chinese lives & injuring another. I strongly condemn this heinous act and offer my heartfelt condolences to the Chinese leadership & the people of China, particularly the…

He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to protecting its Chinese allies, vowing to leave no stone unturned in ensuring their safety and well-being. "Pakistan stands committed to safeguarding our Chinese friends. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure their security & well-being," he concluded.

Two Chinese nationals were among the three people killed and at least 17 people injured, including a Chinese, when a powerful explosion rocked the area outside Karachi's airport late Sunday night. The injured also included Rangers and police personnel. The blast, which could be heard as far away as Clifton, led to immediate confusion, with authorities offering conflicting accounts of its cause.

Officials initially speculated the explosion was either triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) or caused by a vehicle colliding with an oil tanker.

In response, a heavy contingent of police and Rangers rushed to the scene, providing first aid and transporting the injured to a nearby hospital. Footage from the site showed multiple vehicles engulfed in flames as rescue teams worked to control the situation.

Just hand over the security operations to China in balochistan , karchi and kpk , Chinese don't mess about uighurs found out and so did the apus at galwan

Just hand over the security operations to China in balochistan , karchi and kpk , Chinese don't mess about uighurs found out and so did the apus at galwan

Rephrasing as:

Just hand over the security operations to Israel in balochistan , karchi and kpk , Israelis don't mess about palis found out and so did the hizbs at lebanon

Alas neither the Chinese nor Israelis care about land of the pure.

Keep digging a hole though.

This could work.

Once Chinese takes over they will ban names like Muhammad and make the Balooch residents read edited Chinese version of the Quran.

End of Islamic extremism, sounds like a good deal to me...

None of the baloch and ttp are fighting on Islamic extremism they are fighting on ethnofascists tribal lines of being superior to punjabis and having autonomous lands

China doesn't takeover their troops similar to blackwater and special forces will be on the ground and do security operations and provide the protection services for infrastructure and personel since the pakistan security forces are totally incompetent in providing security.
working with pakistan Intel and army the Chinese can just go in and do the operations they will be better trained better equipped and like I said unlike our forces looking out for civilians and giving sweets to kids , the Chinese won't care about collateral if the ethno fascists use the cover of their own civilians in their own villages then they can only blame themselves .

You shouldn't worry about civilians since aren't sanghis like you supporting Israel in gaza and lebanon where they are killing 100s every day .

The Chinese have actually moved back from Galwan. Read about it here.
So it looks like the apus at Galwan have actually taught the Chinese a lesson they won't forget soon.

You are right about the Uighurs though. The Chinese are pretty much scr**wing them and the spineless thekedars of Islam can do nothing.

Why are Baloochs targeting the Chinese in particular ?

The Chinese and Pakistanis are occupying Balochistan, there is a reason Baloch freedom fighters blow up Pakistani forces every month, Chinese are also targeted regularly for their complicity in this colonial oppression.

Sorry brother, I don't have the passion of you converts who look up to a foreign Arab religion.

Stay strong though, you converts are the true soldiers of Islam.

Please fight for Gaza, go over there and prove your loyalty to the Arabs rather than wasting time with words that make no difference from a keyboard. Take out of few Israeli on battlefield, the original ppl of the book...

Just got to think which country has issues with Pakistan and China and you have your answer.
You think India would mess with Chinese citizens? Only one country and alliance is capable of that, that’s your Establishment’s boss.

I didn't mention India, but interesting that is the first thought that came to your mind. Why would the Pak establishment want to build ties with China and destroy them at the same time?

I don't think India is either courageous enough or stupid enough to go after the Chinese.
This.

India recently had some success with its border issues with the Red Dragon. They will not jeopardize that goodwill by these lame attacks on innocents.

What the Pak establishment wants or does not want matters little. It is China that is calling the shots in every aspect, big or small, in the Pak-China relationship. The Pak establishment merely nods its head, in agreement.
China is taking over all the resources of Balochistan to benefit itself, much to the intense annoyance of the Balochis. The Pak establishment can do/will do little to stop the maraudering Chinese, and the Balochis are responding in the only way they can.

Blaming India isn't going to help.

Can’t tell Pak Establishment is in all places, was helping US and yet hosting Osama.
The think tanks of the world don’t understand Pakistani Establishment, one can google to see.

Last time ethnofacists went about their business was 1971, when pakistani punjabis went on bangladeshis.

Raped, pillaged, whatnot. And then they surrendered en masse. Can't fight someone who fights back.

I don't think India would mind disruption to Gwadar specifically and similar Chinese projects in Balochistan given the potential for conversion into a Chinese naval base.

However, I seriously doubt we have enough influence in that space. That's a very conservative and religious populace and I'd be stunned if they agreed to Indian instructions to attack Chinese interests at personal risk. They might accept some arms and money from Indians - 'enemy of our enemy is a friend' but I imagine it would be impossible to get them to do our bidding.

Given the extent of US influence over the Pakistan establishment, I would like to think the Indian intelligence agencies would be happy to leave this to the States

The Foreign Office (FO) on Monday said last night’s terror attack near the Karachi airport, which left two Chinese nationals dead, would “not go unpunished”

Late on Sunday night, a massive explosion occurred on a road near Jinnah International Airport, killing a total of three people and injuring at least 11 others, including a Chinese citizen.

Conflicting accounts emerged in the wake of the powerful explosion, which was heard across town — as far away as Clifton — with officials oscillating between calling it an “IED (improvised explosive device) blast” and an explosion triggered after a vehicle collided with an oil tanker.

Footage of the scene of the explosion showed several vehicles engulfed in flames. Officials said the Bomb Disposal Squad was working to ascertain the nature of the blast.

The outlawed Majeed Brigade of the banned outfit Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) released a statement claiming responsibility for the attack.

In a statement today, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan confirmed that two of its nationals had died and another was injured, along with “some local casualties”.

The FO said in its statement: “Pakistan strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack near Karachi airport last night, which claimed the lives of two Chinese engineers while injuring another.

“[…] Pakistan’s security and law enforcement agencies will spare no effort in apprehending the perpetrators and their facilitators. This barbaric act will not go unpunished,” it vowed.

The FO extended its deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims, both Chinese and Pakistani, and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

“This deplorable act of terrorism is an attack not only on Pakistan but also on the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China.

“We remain resolute in bringing to justice those responsible for this cowardly attack, including the Majeed Brigade,” the FO further said, referring to the outlawed group affiliated with the BLA.

The foreign ministry was in close contact with the Chinese Embassy for coordination and facilitation, the statement said.

“Pakistan and China are close partners and iron-brothers, united by a bond of mutual respect and shared destiny. Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in Pakistan, and will continue to work hand in hand with our Chinese brothers to defeat the forces of te
rror,” the FO asserted.

Karachi airport blast: Police identify terrorist responsible for explosion

The authorities are making progress in the ongoing investigation into the recent blast near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport and identified the suicide bomber behind the attack, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to investigators, the attacker – identified as Shah Fahad – registered the vehicle used in the attack under his name on September 5, 2023.

Further inquiries revealed that Fahad, along with two accomplices, arrived in Karachi on December 3, 2023, and checked into a hotel at 7:49 p.m. in the city’s Preedy area.

Authorities also confirmed that Fahad returned to Karachi on October 4, 2024, and made a biometric entry at another hotel at 10:47 a.m. On the day of the blast, Fahad checked out of the hotel at 12 noon.

The suspect’s repeated stays in two hotels in the same area have provided key leads, and the investigation continues to track his movements and uncover further details about his network.

Sources claimed that the authorities has geo-fenced three kilometer radius surrounding the incident site, while, several people were taken into custody on suspicion of being in contact with the terrorists.

Authorities are actively collecting details and data related to suspicious calls, Investigators are probing how sensitive information regarding the movements of Chinese engineers was leaked to terrorists.

Following the explosion on Airport Road, investigative agencies have been conducting raids across Karachi and Balochistan.

Sources indicate that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other law enforcement agencies gathered evidence throughout the night and have initiated further actions to uncover those responsible for the attack.

Chinese engineers killed in Karachi attack were in debt negotiations: Aurangzeb

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb revealed on Tuesday that the Chinese engineers who lost their lives in the recent terror attack near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport were part of a team negotiating with the Pakistani government regarding debt re-profiling.

“The victims were engineers from the independent power producers (IPP) with whom Energy Minister Awais Leghari and I were discussing our request to restructure our debt and extend payment maturities. This would help us lower power tariffs and provide relief to the public,” he said in a televised address.

Aurangzeb extended his condolences to the people and government of China, emphasizing the tragic nature of the incident.

A convoy transporting Chinese personnel from the Port Qasim Electric Power Company (Private) Limited was attacked on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and injuries to another.

The finance minister stated that the engineers killed in the attack committed to creating a “win-win situation” for both China and Pakistan.

According to Business Recorder, Pakistan and Chinese power companies were prepared to finalise agreements on debt re-profiling and a moratorium on payments exceeding $16 billion for periods of three to five years. This was expected to occur during the visit of Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang.

Slain Chinese engineers not linked to IPPs talks: ministry

The Chinese engineers slain in the deadly blast near Karachi airport were not involved in the talks related to negotiations linked to the independent power producers (IPPs), Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday.

"None of the two Chinese engineers were part of the ongoing talks regarding the IPPs," the ministry stated in a clarification for a previous statement.

A report published by The News cited the finance czar as saying that he, along with Power Minister Awais Leghari, had led negotiations with the power companies by requesting them for debt re-profiling and extended maturity, due to which the government might bring a reduction in power tariff.

"The personnel of negotiating IPPs were attacked in Karachi," Aurangzeb had said and termed it a highly unfortunate episode.

Three people, including two Chinese nationals, were killed in a suspected suicide attack near the Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night (October 6). The explosion also left dozens of others injured.

The government attributed the attack to the outlawed Majeed Brigade.

Authorities have detained nine individuals, including a woman, over suspicion in relation to the ongoing investigation into the deadly blast.

The incident drew a strong reaction from the country's top leadership with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing deep shock and sadness over the attack.

"Pakistan stands committed to safeguarding our Chinese friends. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure their security and well-being," the premier said in a post on X.

Condemning the attack, the Chinese embassy confirmed that a convoy from the Port Qasim Electric Power Company was attacked near the airport.

The United States also condemned the attack, as State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, while addressing a news briefing in Washington, said: "We condemn the deadly attack near Karachi’s international airport and we are deeply saddened by the reported loss of life and injured victims."

President Zardari offers condolences at Chinese embassy following deadly attack in Karachi

Strongly condemning the attack, the president reiterated his resolve to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. He expressed Pakistan's solidarity with the Chinese people during this time of grief.

In a conversation with the Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, President Zardari acknowledged the contributions of the Chinese government and people to Pakistan's socio-economic development.

He stated that such cowardly acts by hostile elements cannot shatter the bonds of friendship between the two long-standing allies.

The president also reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Chinese nationals residing in the country.

China to work with Pakistan to protect Chinese personnel after Karachi airport attack

China said on Thursday it would work with Pakistan to protect the safety and security of Chinese personnel and projects and institutions in Pakistan, following the killing of two Chinese engineers.

Mao Ning, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, said she was not aware of reports that Pakistani authorities were seeking to curb the movements of Chinese citizens during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting next week because of a security risk from militant groups targeting them.

Ning said this amid reports, citing three security officials and an internal security note, that Pakistani authorities had taken that decision.

Karachi suicide blast termed conspiracy against Pakistan-China relations

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has termed the suicide bomb blast near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport a conspiracy aimed at damaging Pakistan-China relations.

The initial report, submitted by the CTD to the court, links the attack to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), with assistance from a foreign intelligence agency hostile to Pakistan.

According to the preliminary findings, an unidentified terrorist detonated a car bomb near vehicles in a Chinese convoy, close to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) guard room, located in front of the Outer Jinnah International Terminal.

The explosion killed three people, including two Chinese nationals -- Li Jun and Sun Huazhen, while more than 12 others sustained injuries.

The blast also completely destroyed 15 vehicles, with injured individuals being found on the scene when the authorities responded to the explosion. The police, along with emergency services, were quick to arrive at the site after hearing the blast.

Among the injured were Waqar, Ilyas, Naeem, Rano Khan, Azim, Tariq, Ali, Hamza, and Sabih.

The case, filed by the SHO of the Airport police station, has incorporated charges of murder, assault, explosives, and terrorism under various sections of the anti-terrorism laws. The CTD report underlines that the attack was orchestrated with the intent to disrupt Pakistan's relations with China.

Formerly involved in similar attacks, the Balochistan Liberation Army has been accused of targeting Chinese nationals and infrastructure linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The government has condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. Security forces have heightened their presence around key installations, particularly those related to Chinese investments, in the wake of the incident.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Monday claimed that four suspects, including a mastermind behind the suicide bombing near Karachi Airport that targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers, have been apprehended, reported Express News

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi alongside Sindh Inspector General (IG) Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, Minister Lanjar provided details of the attack.

He confirmed that two Chinese engineers were among the three individuals killed in the attack, while 11 others were injured. The outlawed separatist group, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Minister Lanjar identified the suicide bomber as Shah Fahad, whose body was mostly destroyed in the explosion. His torso and one hand were found intact, and the identification was confirmed through fingerprints.

"CCTV footage also helped identify the bomber and two accomplices. Fragments of the vehicle used in the attack were recovered from the scene," he added.

Zia said that further investigation revealed that the car used in the bombing had been purchased for 7.1 million rupees from a showroom. Excise data revealed that two individuals, Farhan and Sharif, were involved in the car's purchase, and the bomber had accompanied them during the purchase.

Minister Lanjar also stated that the bombers had received financial assistance from accomplices, including a bank employee named Bilal. The vehicle used in the attack was reportedly taken to a location beyond Hub, where explosive materials, including RDX and a substance known as "paint," were added. The total weight of the explosives was between 30 to 40 kilograms, and such materials had been used in World War II in Germany.

Minister Lanjar assured the public that further efforts are underway to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the planning and execution of the attack.

The main suspect behind the attack was identified as Javed, who coordinated the operation, including reconnaissance and providing information about the Chinese nationals' movements. Zia ul Hassan Lanjhar confirmed that three suspects have been arrested, while three others—Danesh, Gul Rahman, and Bashir Zaid—remain on the run.

Last week, a private security company guard posted at a textile mill in Karachi opened fire and seriously injured two Chinese nationals following a quarrel on Tuesday morning, according to a senior city police officer as well as the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

2 BLA suspects sent to jail in Karachi airport Chinese convoy attack case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday sent two suspects, including the alleged mastermind of suicide bombing near the Karachi airport that killed two Chinese nationals and a Pakistani citizen, to jail on judicial custody.

The suspects Javaid and his female aide, Gul Nisa, said to be associated with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), were brought to the ATC court in Clifton, by the investigation officer, seeking their extension in police custody.

The IO informed the court that a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had been formed to probe the role of the two apprehended suspects, and its first meeting had already taken place.

The IO further stated that the suspects need to be interrogated, for which their remand in police custody had been requested until December 11.

However, the court rejected the IO request and sent the suspects to jail on judicial remand.

The court also directed the IO to submit an interim report at the next hearing and adjourned the proceeding until Dec 16.

Earlier, the police had registered a second FIR on the alleged confession made by Javaid, implicating a banker and a trader.

The contents of the FIR stated that during the investigation, CTD Inspector Umar Farooq interrogated Javiad, who allegedly disclosed that the facilitation and financing of the attack were carried out by the BLA’s Majeed Brigade.

He further disclosed that the funding for the attack was arranged through a private bank in Hub Chowki, Balochistan.

While using those funds, a vehicle was purchased on September 3 for Rs7.1 million from a showroom.

The initial payment was made in cash, while a bank employee, Bilal, and a trader, were facilitators in the attack.

The account used for the payment was registered under the name of Saeed Ali Traders.

However, on September 5, the vehicle was registered through the Excise and Taxation department and was later fitted with explosive materials.
