2 days gone and for some, the writing on the wall is already there!

So can Pakistan magically win this or are we talking about a draw or an Aussie win only?

One thing is for sure Aus can't lose this, all eyes on Pakistan batsman who are due a failure after two performances

At the end of Day 3 Australia would wrap up Pakistan 1st inns for under 300 max and then the poll here for Aus win will raise

Pakistan will walk into bat tmw with the scoreboard pressure added to their defensive mindset, easy win for Aus here in Karachi is what i expect

Pakistan win is out of the equation. Australia can win if the pitch breaks up but right now this looks like a draw for all purposes.

I hope not , but Pakistan likely to lose this test. In first inning they will not cross 300 and will be bundled out for less than 200 in 2nd inning. Lyon and Swepson are better spinners than Pakistani minnow bashers.

Man this is a torture of a series... I wish we better had lost the series instead of going through this pain... This is beyond explaination stuff... Really feel for those who have spent their money and time and went to stadium to watch this horrific series... SHAME ON US BEING THIS TIMID

Now that Australia have crossed 500, I think Pakistan win is unlikely.

Draw is the likeliest result but Australia can win too.

Pakistan deserves to lose for coming up with these wickets + negative tactics. What we've proved to the Aussies is that they haven't missed out on touring Pakistan over the last 20-25 years.

To come up with such wickets for what was meant to be a memorable series is unforgivable.

This series was never about the result, it was about making this series one to remember but Pakistan have made it one to forget.

Depends how we bat 1st inns, i can see an Aussie win here.

A draw is the most likely outcome on this pitch unless it breaks.

Gone for a draw, but there has to be some concerns.

I just hope the pitch doesn't deteriorate quickly.

There are 270 overs remaining in the match.

Assuming Australia plays another 5 overs in the morning and declare that will
Leave 83 overs to bat for Pakistan tomorrow.

Suppose Aus adds 20 runs in morning.
That will leave pakistan needing 326 to avoid follow on.

Tomorrow suppose pakistan bat at RR of 2.75
* 83 = 229/4

That will be reasonable total.
Needing them further 97 on Day 4 with 6 wickets in hand to avoid follow on.

Day 4 pakistan bats further 30 overs with RR of 3.25and blitz from Faheem klusener but we lose 6 wickets.
30*3.25 = 98

Pak avoids follow on
All out 327.

Day 4, further 58 overs left.
Aus has lead of 198 runs
58*3.2= 185
Aus declares at end of day 4.

198+ 185 = 383 To win on Final day
90 overs and pitch breaking up. Lyon/seampson to make things difficult.
Aus can wrap up our batting on Day 5.

Bottom line is pak needs to score 400 in 1st innings to kill massive time in order to avoid facing less than 75 overs on day 5.

Depends on the quality of the Australian pace and spin attack. Swepson is an unknown commodity and a leg spinner which makes me nervous as Pakistan is notorious for making unknown bowlers heroes.

Even though there will be scoreboard pressure but a half decent batting side will have to bat very badly to get dismissed for a low score here so as long as Babar and Co bat up to their potential, I think Pakistan can secure a draw here.

Pakistan will start well tomorrow morning and be good for around 50 overs with a decent total and say 6 or 7 wickets in hand , at the later part of the day probably after tea I expect a collapse and bundle out for less than 300.

Depending upon the lead Aus will decide to force follow on or not.

This is more likely turning out to be India vs England last year in Chennai test where Root scored a double ton.

Scoreboard pressure can do anything to best of the bests. Pakistan batsman are very meek at it.

Good hours of batting will be till tea time and Azhar will go on with his grinding 30 40 runs facing 100+ balls playing for a draw and put Pakistan in bad position

Happy to be proven wrong. Let’s see

1st two sessions will set the tone Pak need to bat atheist 120 overs in 1st inn to be in safety zone bat 120 overs and Pak will nearly avoid fo

about 2 days to save the game - looks unlikely

What a sorry performance by Pakistan.
I believe a typical Karachi pitch always offers something for both bat and ball.
There was spin available even on the second day and the ball was also reversing for the quick bowlers. Bowlers didn't bowl well enough. Shaheen couldn't come out of the t20 mode and bowled too full on this pitch. Couple of very easy catches were dropped and the captaincy looked unimaginative.

Pakistan also need to look beyond Azhar Ali now. A big score on a road after a lot of failures is simply not good enough.

Need to give credit to Australia. They were well prepared for Pakistani conditions knowing full well that the only game plan Pakistan has is to wait for the ball to reverse swing or spin. They scored runs quickly with the new ball and batted with great technique, discipline against a reverse swinging old ball.

Pakistan needs to realize that they can't keep getting away with a lack of wickets with the new ball upfront against quality teams.

Aus have this in the bag.

I was surprised they didn't enforce the follow on but I guess the thinking is to give their bowlers a bit of a rest and then go at Pakistan tomorrow again.

Could be over tomorrow this match.

no need to apply follow on, if some miracle happened and pakistan made Aussies have to bat last on a day 5 pitch it could have been tricky. They were already 400 ahead with 7 sessions in play, so giving bowlers rest was smart, also pakistan aint chasing 400+ even if they were given 20 wickets to chase it.

Can Pakistan win this match?

So we still need another 320 runs but I reckon if the pitch remains flat and we still have wickets in hand going into the final session - we should go for it!!

Thoughts?

The fan inside me believe so he will wake up sharp at 5 to watch the match.

There is no way we can chase this. We don't have someone like Pant who can come in and score run a ball 100. We should bat like we did today for two and half sessions and then reassess.

An opportunity for immortality beckons for a brave player

Who wants to take this opportunity?

Exactly we don’t have a special player like Pant to take it to the opposition…

We don’t have a chance with a timid captain like babar at the crease

Ermm i love the sense of humour here....but if we draw that would be a great achievement. The way Cummins bowled with the new ball banana deliveries is very worrying.

But we don’t need a run a ball hundred. Need to score around 3.3 runs per over to chase this :)

no chance at all, best we can hope for is we get to 75 overs through day 5 and its called off early by both teams.

I got a feeling ball will stop swinging after 5-10 overs..

There is a reason this has never been done before in the history of cricket.

Absolutely no chance, would need to score around 3.5 an over whilst currently they are at 2.3 an over

The first test which was a far easier pitch to bat on we went at 2.8 an over in the first innings and then 3.2 in the second innings where there was next to no pressure

Add in the pressure it's not realistic to expect us to bat at 3.5 an over, this is Test cricket not ODI or T20

Australia are still very much likely to win this however there is a slim chance we can draw, they key to that will be these two getting through the first hour with their wicket intact but all it takes is 1 wicket and the pressure gets cranked up

Basically forget dreaming about a win, just dream we can hopefully save the test match

Need to target 100 runs per session at Lunch and Tea with no wickets down or max of 1-2 wickets. If the team needs 100 runs by tea time, its even stevens.

No chance for Pakistan to chase this one. Australia still firm favorites to win this one with maybe 65% for Australia win with 25% for draw & 10 % for Pakistan win.

Most likely we will see same old Babar who will get out early on a new day like he had done so many times in his 39 test matches so far.

This is dead pitch.
300 is easy target to chase on flat track.

Have you watched the match at all? The day 4 and day 5 pitch is turning and has uneven bounce. Even day 3 was not flat. Is it hurting you that we are only 2 wickets down?

Australia is favorite to win. It will take a miraculous effort to draw the match.

This pitch has cracks and ball gets low not t o mention the deadly reverse swing when available combine all thus against a fragile and novice batting lineup of Pakistan and its a catch 22

I think you are quite generous with those percentages, I reckon 95% Australia win and 5% for the draw

Sun will never rise from west. Only one dismissal and it will be all over, Rizwan might delay eventual defeat for a bit.

Chance of Pakistan win : 0%
Draw : 0%
Australian win : 100&

Other interest in the game
Babar's highest test score ?
Abdullah's century ?
Whether Pakistan will take the game beyond team Time ? Very unlikely.

Can Pakistan win this match? Yes.

Will Pakistan win this match? Most likely not.

The wicket is going to deteriorate pretty badly for day 5. I think Australia should win before tea.

Lets see where they are at tea time tmrw

Its a very very long shot Initially they need to make sure they play out the first hour in the morning without any losses and concentrate on drawing the game

They want to have to save wickets to go deep in this game and not get bowled out. That would mean batting sensibly and will allow the required run rate to push beyond 4 an over. That's no joke.

Team will and should play positively and sensibly in the first session with priority being not to lose any wickets before lunch.

No. Even if both Babar and Abdullah bat all day tomorrow it will still be a draw. We're going to start slow, playing the first hour, session at 2rpo - and rightly so. It's all about saving the match.

We can win and if this was the last test in the series I would've liked to see us going for target. However, it has to be a safety first approach if we want a chance at winning the series

If Pakistan can go through the first session unscathed than I think they will start thinking about the win. But they have to ensure they get atleast 75 in the first session regardless.

It'll still be highly improbable but if there's one thing that will give them some confidence its that the pitch could very well remain flat through the day. In the past Pakistan chased down 200+ on the final day in that famous one wicket victory over Australia, and England also chased down 176 in 40 odd overs in that famous sunset victory back in 2000.

They will have to negotiate the second new ball and potentially a couple of ruthless spells of reverse-swing. But there's no reason they shouldn't draw this match with the position they are in. And if the pitch remains flat than they should definitely try and go for the win.

I am watching this match, So far it is batting friendly and no daemons in this pitch.
Not sure about tomorrow.

I am surprised to see some poster really hoping for a Pakistan win . Unfortunately they don't realize the actual world living in fantasy.

It's still very very difficult to draw . Abdullah and Azam should bat until tea to make Pakistan safe .

Both need to Bat til tea and make sure they have wickets in hand if there is a collapse in the last session

Last session they can get 120-150 runs if 8 wickets in hand

Australia will demolish Pakistan tomorrow .. serves the latter right for producing these horrible pitches.

I'll give a higher chance for a draw than most are giving here. Pitch is terrible for result.

However pleased to see some spine after day 3.

A draw will feel like a win for Pakistan.
A draw for Australia will feel like a loss.

Pakistan need 270 runs in 72 overs
8 wickets left,no excuses on a flat track.
Pakistan should try for win rather than Draw.
