10 teams, Pakistan in poor form, but they tend to raise their game for major tournaments.

Where do you think Pakistan will finish in the group of 10?
 
2nd. India vs NZ & Pak vs SA in semis. Finalists & the winner is obvious, no prediction required. :)
 
When God is playing then average cricketers will look like Martin Crowes! Just wait and watch. Don't wrist your slits.
 
3rd.

Most probably meet Australia/England in the semi-finals.

And after that.... only God knows.
 
Currently Pak are bowling poorly, even those that showed lot of promise earlier in their career like Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah, and with Shadab short of bowling practise I think Pak will not make it to Semis..

IF we get to the semis and meet england and then beat them, after the hammering they gave us in the last series, that would be kismat. And then if we meet india in the final and beat them with a six of the last ball of the innings(miandad style), all my cricketing dreams will have come true. Yes i know its a dream, but sometimes dreams do come true. InshaAllah!

The nightmare would be if the ball gets caught on the boundary- misbah style!

We will beat England if we will play against them in the KO stages.

However beating Australia would be a very tough task to do.

We seem to have a mental block against Australia and India.

Yes i agree with you. They do have the wood over us. Thats why i would prefer to play new zealand/ south afrifa in the semis and england in the final, as we have the wood over these teams in wc.

Guys we need to stop dreaming of a semi-final spot for 2 simple reasons:

1. You'll never find in Pakistan's WC history a bowling attack as toothless as this one, yes even worse than the one we had in 2007 WC with the likes of Rao Iftikhar Anjum!

2. Also I've never seen a more hopeless captain lead the side. You could see from ICC's recent preview discussion (with all the captains interviewed), a resigned look written all over Sarfraz's face.

There's no basis for placing any expectations on this shambolic team. We all know they have a great record in England, when it comes to ICC events and they won the CT just 2 years with virtually the same team but that was all down to Fakhar and Hasan Ali. The latter at present isn't even half the bowler, when he made a name for himself as man of the tournament back then. Fakhar I expect to come up with some good performances, but it will be in vain with the bowling we've seen of late. Babar will have a successful tournament, but will he be the man to set-up decent totals and chase 250+ targets on his own for the greater good of the team? I'm not convinced he has the drive to do so.

Need our bowling to fire big time. Pakistan has a chance if they play the right combo.

Malik and Shaheen need to be kept away from the eleven.

But why would u want to be in a position where u need 6 to win off the last ball? Could u handle that

Rao Iftikhar wasn't even that bad to be honest. It's a shame he was never given a consistent run in the Test side as he had a very solid First Class record. Also he wasn't that bad at all as a first change bowler in ODIs, he won us a few matches in the UAE versus West Indies and performed very decently until he was dropped.

He didn't really do much to get dropped and get out of the reckoning either, I feel he was hard done by. I think he was getting too old because there is no way he was born in 1980 :)).

He performed well for Pakistan when he was a part of the squad, you could rely on him to get you breakthroughs in the middle. I can't believe a pace attack of Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir & Iftikhar Anjum won us matches, on paper it doesn't seem very strong but these bowlers won us matches; something the current hyped lot are yet to do.

Sarfraz's captaincy leaves a lot to be desired. He lacks that killer instict and does not have a winners mentality, I can give you
so many examples of how his pathetic captaincy have lost us matches we should have won. He's not that bad of a batsman either as we saw in the 4th or 5th ODI? But it brings me back to our initial point of him being extremely hopeless and not having the self belief or confidence. His mentality is quite poor and someone like him should not be leading the national team of Pakistan. How can someone who has the mentality of a loser inspire the team in anyway? He's even worse than Misbah.

Agreed, teams have now started to work out Fakhar and have done their homework... Fakhar & our team management on the other hand are yet to do their homework.
 
4th I guess. Reaching the semis on the last day and in between giving the fans heart problems.

But come the semis the PAK team will be there.

Ifitkhar was highly thought of when he burst into the scene during the early 2000s but he had regressed immensely by 2007 and yes he definitely looked older than 26 in that WC :))

Unfortunately we're suffering from the same phobia Inzy has as a selector today as when he was skipper during the disastrous campaign in the Caribbean, because he has always had a phobia for bringing in new blood to the side. Back in the mid to late 2000s our best back-up to Shoaib Akhtar and Asif was actually Aizaz Cheema. He was a 90mph bowler with prodigious skills and like Iftikhar it was sad we only got a chance to see him when he was past it. Having said that I'll never forget his final over in the 2012 Asia Cup, when he successfully defended 9 runs that were required from Bangladesh.

Don't get me started on Misbah, he's one of the major reasons why the gulf between the top 5 is so big as it is!

Fakhar is inconsistent but if he can get through the first 5 overs, you can back him to deliver a brisk 50+ score or possibly a match-winning ton. If he cannot address the moving ball in the first few games, he needs to swap with Babar in the batting order.
 
I have a feeling Pakistan will be 2nd, they will beat Aus, Saf, Ban, Afg, Sri, WI, NZ but will lose to Ind and Eng. They will reach finals but will lose to India.
 
We will lose in the semi's. I see a South Africa or Australia defeating us then followed by effigy burning's in Pak cities:))
 
Realistically 6th, as I dont see them going aboveEngland, Australia. India, southAfrica, new zealand. I am hoping somehow 4th maybe some rain advantage and some random one man wonder performance to get us to be above 2 if those sides.

Might win against Bangladesh, Afgh and SL. Never going to beat other teams. Bowlers have no brain, batting is average with no firepower and fielding is horrible.
 
The only satisfactory result out of the top 4 would be to finish 10th. Safaraz, Inzi etc need to be exposed even more than they already have over the last 20 ODI's.

This will result in nothing more than a severe humiliation. Pak will be considered minnows. This will have no effect on the management. They'll keep on making bad decisions.
 
I would say 5th or 6th at best.

Currently they do not know their bowling or batting order. Their batting is somewhat one dimensional relying on 2 players (Fakhar & Babar), their hitter down the order (Asif Ali) is hit and miss, more so the latter. Bowling wise, as I have said for some time, it is weak, Shaheen and Hasan Ali have dropped off significantly and are ineffective, Amir has no pace or swing, Wahab was expensive in his first spell in the warm-up game but then recovered it later on and Hasnain is going for 6+ an over in the games he's played. Their spin is non-existent, Shadab has just come back, Imad once figured out is ineffective and Hafeez is not the same bowler as he used to be.

They seem to be a mess right now, their bowling which has always been their asset has deteriorated badly. With Shinwari and Abid Ali in the final 15 squad, the team would look to be more settled but there's nothing there showing this side has anything to finish above 5th unlike the Aus, Eng, Ind, NZ, SA, WI.
 
My prediction would be top 5. Could perhaps make the semi if things goes pak way
 
Best case scenario - 3/4

Possibly - 5th

Worst case scenario - 6th


Overall it will be yet another troll if Pakistan goes on to lift the cup.
 
There is nothing to suggest that Pak will reach semis. We are losing against bang avg teams like Afg. So I think we will finish at 7th.
 
7th or 8th, we havent show the ability to beat any of the top sides regularly in ODI cricket over last few years and even teams like SL, WI, bangla & Afghans will fancy beating us at this world cup.

Scrapping our way through to the semis in fourth position with help from other results and fortunate weather. Then drop out at the semi.

That is a myth propagated due to Pakistan's unpredictable name tag. We have lost more finals, semis and quarters than we have won.

A few of those defeats were to India and Australia who are both equally proven or better big match teams bro no bragging.

I always maintain Australia followed by India=Pakistan are the teams to watch out for in big matches/tournaments.

Dont try. So called PAK cricket fans all of a sudden place teams like SA, ENG,NZ heck even BANGLA boys above PAK. Teams that hardly deliver in big ICC tournaments.

The fact is that i much rather have aus than eng in a knockout match due to how they handle pressure. Aus are more likely to beat us in a knockout match compared to eng.
 
I wanted to put them at 7th but I think we will end up 7th beating two of Afg/BD/WI and one win against the rest.

Not sure how Sarfraz expected to win with a spinner to bowl when the opposition needs just 14 runs off 12 balls. Specially when we pulled things back due to the pace bowlers reversing the ball :))

You do know Shadab needs match practise/bowl as much as possible prior to the WC?

Amir only bowled 6 overs. If you really think that Amir will bowl MAX 6 overs in a WC game going into the last over, then no point in discussing.

And just because Shadab is not match fit it's absolutely necessary for him to bowl the penultimate over?

Yes, you never know what specialist kaptaan is thinking of, he's the best at losing us won matches.

Actually no - PAK cricket has two phase and you are still living in that phases which expired 20 years back. One CT win can’t cover every thing.

It’s not only AUS or IND; almost every team has beaten PAK in so called big matches in last 20 years. This is the summery from memory since 1992 -

1996 WC QF - lost to India
1998 ICC KO - Lost to WIN in 1st round (QF)
1998 WC - Won SF against NZ, lost Final to AUS
2000 ICC KO - lost to Kiwis in SF
2002 ICC KO - lost to SRL, which was effectively QF
2003 WC - lost to Poms, which was effectively elimination game
2004 ICC KO - lost to WIN in SF
2006 ICC CT - lost to Kiwis in group game, which would have taken PAK to SF & Kiwis out. Then lost to SAF what was effectively QF
2007 - after losing to WI & IRL tying with ZIM, PAK - IRL became elimination game - they lost it to IRL
2009 CT - Lost to Kiwis in SF
2011 WC - won against WIN in QF, lost to IND in SF
2013 CT - lost to SAF in 2nd game, which was elimination game (lost to India in 3rd game, already out of SF contention)
2015 WC - won the elimination game against ZIM, lost to AUS in QF
2017 CT - won 4 KO games at stress - SAF, SRL, ENG, IND.

Apart from that CT 2017, there is lot more hot air than substances in terms of tournament team. This is because almost entire nation is living in those 5-6 years under Imran, when half of PP wasn’t even born. For rest part, SRL & even NZ is ahead actually in terms of “big game”.

Been maintaining since a good 3-4 months now that if Pakistan finishes 7th, it would be a respectable outcome for them. Clearly Bangladesh and West Indies are better teams than Pakistan and would go on as favourites to win against Pakistan. So if Pakistan can manage to finish ahead of both of them, it would be a respectable outcome.

In terms of strategy, Pakistan now needs to realise that batting is their strong suit now. So Sarfraz needs to chase every game in this tournament when he can. When your bowling is as toothless as Pakistan's is, batting first and even scoring 340 would not be enough for this bowling lineup to defend against the likes of Eng, Aust, NZ, SA, India. Bowl first and allow your bowlers to bowl without the pressure of containment. Chasing should be the mantra for Pakistan.

Even if we finish 8th, it's not like it's going to make a difference to our cricket overall.

We'll just lose fans that will never come back.

I wouldn’t get cocky if I was you, especially against WI who have beaten Pakistan against the odds in a few fair contests:

- 2004 CT semi-final
- 2007 WC opening match
- 2015 WC group game


The only reason why I’m bringing up some historical contests is because back then Pakistan were heavy favourites and a much better team. Now if you compare both sides, WI actually have more match winners and it’s fair say they have a better team on paper, led very well by Jason Holder, so why write them off?
