Shan hits unbeaten 212, Ali strikes 192 on opening day of President’s Trophy 2025-26

WAPDA’s Aqib Khan (6-18) and SBP’s Mohammad Ismail (5-27) stood out with the ball

Karachi, 28 December 2025: The opening day of the President’s Trophy 2025-26 saw Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Ghani Glass and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) put strong strides forward as the action unfolded at four venues in Karachi on Sunday.

SNGPL’s left-handed batters Shan Masood and Ali Zaryab punished Sahir Associates’ bowlers with a 390-run second-wicket stand at the NBP Sports Complex as they closed the day with 460-2 in 82.1 overs.

Shan struck his second first-class double century in 2025 as he remained 212 not out and will aim to go past 250 not out – his best first-class score – which he scored earlier in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26. He smashed 18 fours and two sixes in a 185-ball unscathed outing.

Ali Zaryab registered his 10th first-class century but fell eight runs short of the double century as Mohammad Hasnain provided Sahir the much-needed breakthrough late in the day. Ali struck 27 fours and four sixes in his 237-ball knock.

Earlier, Ali and Azan Awais (26, 68b, 4x4s) had put on 53 runs opening the batting. Omair Bin Yousuf, who was unbeaten on five of 15 balls at stumps, will join Shan in the middle at the start of day two. Bilawal was the other wicket-taker for Sahir as they employed eight bowlers on a toiling day.

WAPDA’s Aqib Khan wreaked havoc with the ball as his six for 18 in 11.4 overs including three maidens bundled out Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) for a mere 116 in 46.4 overs at the National Bank Stadium. Naqeebullah and Mohammad Zeeshan picked up two wickets each.

For KRL, only Saad Baig (22, 30b, 3x4s) and Junaid Ali (21, 64b) managed to cross the 20-run mark as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Saad and Shahzaib Khan’s (14, 54b, 1x4) 34-run opening stand of 34 was the highest partnership for KRL.

In turn, WAPDA were 75-4 in 23.1 overs at close of play with Arshad Iqbal and Mohammad Hamza picking up two wickets each. WAPDA will begin day two 41 runs behind KRL and with Sharoon Siraj at the crease unbeaten on 37 off 60 balls including five fours.

At the UBL Sports Complex, Ghani Glass were 67-2 in 24 overs at stumps in reply to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited’s (OGDCL) 196 all out in 60 overs.

After Sharjeel Khan (38 not out, 75b, 6x4s) and Khawaja Arham (16, 54b, 2x4s) put on 46 runs in their opening stand, OGDCL’s Danish Aziz struck twice including the scalp of night watcher Ubaid Shah, who fell for a two-ball duck.

Earlier, four wickets each for skipper Noman Ali and Afaq Afridi helped Ghani Glass restrict OGDCL under the 200-run mark. They slipped to 100-7 before no.9 batter Mushtaq Ahmed blazed aa 77-ball 58 including five fours and three sixes to take his team to a competitive score. Mushtaq stitched a 76-run stand with Abdul Rehman Muzammil (16, 83b) for the eighth wicket.

SBP were 106-4 in 41 overs at stumps and seven runs ahead of Pakistan Television (PTV) at the State Bank Stadium. Opening batter Hasan Raza was unbeaten on 39 off 132 balls hitting three fours, while Mohammad Abbas was sent in to night watch at 101-4 after Muhammad Ghazi Ghori’s (22, 37b, 3x4s) departure with Rameez Aziz and Qasim Akram being the batters yet to come.

Earlier, PTV were skittled for a mere 99 in 30.4 overs with only Mohammad Taha (47, 65b, 6x4s, 1x6) and Waqar Hussain (12, 39b, 2x4s) entering double figures. SBP’s pacers Mohammad Ismail (6-1-27-5) and Kashif Ali (9.4-2-19-4) shared nine wickets among them.

Three of the four games of the opening round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 were decided on day three as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Ghani Glass bagged wins on Tuesday across three venues in Karachi.

In the Pakistan Television (PTV) and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) fixture, the latter were left staring down a defeat as stumps were drawn with the defending champions requiring another two scalps to win, while the runners-up of previous edition needed another 92 runs at the State Bank Stadium.

Fast bowler Ather Mehmood bowled SNGPL to an innings and 151-run victory over Sahir Associates at the NBP Sports Complex as he returned figures of five for 66 in 18.2 overs including six maidens.

At the State Bank Stadium in Karachi, SBP were reeling at 148-8 in 32.1 overs at stumps in pursuit of a 240-run target with Rameez Aziz unbeaten on 31 off 35 balls. Mohammad Hurraira was run out after scoring a fine 76 off 80 balls hitting 12 fours and two sixes as his dismissal also broke open the SBP batting line-up.

Anyone know where is Abbas Afridi? He hasn't played anything since T10. Not the List A and not playing in this FC tournament.

Other notable players not playing:

Mubasir
Muhammad Shehzad (player of the tournament last season iirc)
Saad Masood (wasn't played in List A tournament either and they have turned him into a T20 specialist)
Ahmed Daniyal
Shahid Aziz

I am sure there are more but this was just ones I found quickly.

We always complain our players would rather play T20 than FC but what can the players do when they don't get picked to play? This is why our players fail to develop and this is a PCB failing than the players fault.

The wonders of departmental cricket.

Israr leads PTV's fightback with 7-95 as Haroon's 104 gives OGDCL edge over defending champions

The day two of the second round of President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 saw Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) put defending champions Pakistan Television (PTV) under pressure with a three figure first innings lead as action unfolded at four venues across Karachi on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) were firm favorites to outfox Sahir Associates, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) batters staged a comeback against Ghani Glass and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) found themselves behind Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

OGDCL’s Haroon Arshad shone with his third overall and second-consecutive first-class century as he helped his team gain a substantial 103-run first innings lead over Pakistan Television at the UBL Sports Complex.

Resuming the day from overnight score of 73-1, OGDCL soon lost Israrullah for 53 off 68 balls including 10 fours. At this juncture, Haroon – backing up his 116 in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final – racked up 104, inclusive of 14 fours in a 210-ball vigil, which also included a 138-run stand with no.3 Umar Siddiq (56, 127b, 8x4s).

With Umar’s departure in 64th over, OGDCL slumped losing eight wickets for 84 runs in a space of 23.5 overs as they posted 302 all out in 90.2 overs in reply to PTV’s 199.

Israr Hussain of PTV bagged figures of seven for 95 in 27.2 overs – his third haul of five or more wickets in the format – falling slightly short of bettering his previous best innings analysis of 7-72. Arafat Minhas, Musa Khan and Amad Butt picked up one wicket each.

In turn, PTV raced to 22 for no loss in three overs at close of play in their second dig with an 81-run deficit yet to overcome.

SBP were 222 runs ahead of Ghani Glass as they finished the day with their second innings score reading 194-3 in 44 overs at the NBP Sports Complex.

Wicketkeeper-batter Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (113 not out, 104b, 17x4s) and Rameez Aziz (47 not out, 102b, 6x4s) were unbeaten on the crease after having pulled their team from 51-3 with a 143-run partnership. Ghazi blazed his second first-class century in the outing and will be looking to help his team set a formidable target for Ghani Glass.

Earlier, SBP’s pacer Mohammad Abbas completed his 54th first-class five-wicket haul along with 850 wickets in the format with miserly figures of 22-11-27-6. Ghani Glass resumed from overnight score of 31-4 as Tayyab Tahir (60, 142b, 8x4s) and night watcher Mohammad Rameez Jnr (39, 59b, 7x4s) put on 88 runs.

Saad Nasim chipped in with 38 off 32 balls hitting four fours and two sixes before Ghani Glass were bowled out for 174 in 57.2 overs conceding a 28-run first innings deficit. Apart from Abbas’s six, Kashif Bhatti picked up two wickets.

At the National Bank Stadium, Sahir Associates were left reeling at 42-4 in 16 overs at close of play chasing a 228-run target against KRL. Arshad Iqbal and Mohammad Hamza dismissed two batters each.

Earlier, pacer Arshad bagged his maiden first class five-wicket haul (14-5-24-5) as Sahir were skittled for 123 in 34.3 overs after resuming their first innings from their overnight score of 46-4 in 16 overs. Only Mohammad Afzal (25, 22b, 2x4s, 2x6s) and Mohammad Faiq (24, 24b, 4x4s) managed a score above 20-run mark.

Arshad was aided by Ahmed Bashir (3-40) and Mohammad Hamza (2-50), who accounted for the other five wickets combined.

With an 81-run first innings lead, KRL succumbed to the pace of Khan Zaib (10.4-2-51-5), Bilawal (2-33), Mohammad Hasnain (2-49) and Attaullah (1-10) as they managed a mere 146 in 31.4 overs, setting a 228-run target for Sahir. Imran Rafiq (31, 19b, 6x4s) and Saad Baig (30, 30b, 5x4s) chipped in with fluent thirties.

SNGPL were trailing WAPDA by another 96 runs at close of play on day two after grinding out 17 overs scoring 33 runs for the loss of Ali Zaryab. Earlier, WAPDA managed a massive 129-run lead over SNGPL as they posted 276 all out in their first dig in 71.4 overs.

WAPDA’s skipper Khalid Usman led from front with 96 off 88 balls hitting 11 fours and five sixes after walking in to bat at 159-5, which put his team well ahead of SNGPL’s first innings total of 147 all out. Bismillah Khan and Ayaz Tasawar too came in handy with 37 runs each and a valuable 83-run stand for the fifth wicket after WAPDA slipped to 76-4 from 70-1.

Imran Dogar contributed 36, while Muhammad Ammar chipped in with 32 runs in WAPDA’s innings as SNGPL’s pacers shared all 10 wickets among them with Bilawal Bhatti and Mohammad Salman taking three each. Athar Mehmood and Shahnawaz Dahani dismissed two batters each.

Azan & Shamyl continue to impress and it's been very green pitches and low scoring throughout this tournament.

I'd like to see in the future that one of the FC tournaments in either QeA or President's Trophy build spinning pitches throughout the tournament and other tournament have green & very pace friendly pitches. It gives batters consistent & extended run to get used to the pitches and for Pakistan selectors to know exactly which batters are excelling in FC tournament vs pace or spin.

Anyone know where is Abdullah Shafique? Hasn't played since end of November. Didn't play in List A tournament and not playing in this one either.

Mohammad Ammar’s unbeaten century and a composed hundred from Azan Awais highlighted the opening day of the third round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I, which began at four venues across Karachi on Friday.

At the United Bank Limited Sports Complex, WAPDA showed resilience to post a strong total of 307 for six against Sahir Associates after being asked to bat first. WAPDA were in trouble at 70 for five before Mohammad Ammar and captain Khalid Usman mounted an impressive recovery. Ammar remained unbeaten on 140 from 264 balls, hitting 22 fours, while Usman played a crucial knock of 93 off 174 deliveries. The duo stitched together a commanding 237-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Khan Zaib was the standout bowler for Sahir Associates, claiming three wickets for 70 runs.

Meanwhile, at the State Bank Stadium, SNGPL ended the opening day on 197 for four against SBP after choosing to bat. Opener Azan Awais anchored the innings with a patient unbeaten 103 off 242 balls, which included 13 fours and a six. Captain Shan Masood added 35, while Shahid Aziz picked up two wickets for SBP.

At the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex, KRL bowlers dominated after OGDCL elected to bat. OGDCL were bowled out for 244 in 82.4 overs despite a fighting half-century from Danish Aziz, who scored 56 with seven boundaries. Mohammad Hamza led the bowling attack for KRL with figures of four for 31, while Ahmed Bashir chipped in with three wickets.

In the final match at the National Bank Stadium, Ghani Glass made a solid start against PTV. PTV were dismissed for 186 in 38.4 overs, with Shamyl Hussain top-scoring with a quick 68. Mir Hamza starred with the ball for Ghani Glass, taking five wickets for 55. In reply, Ghani Glass reached 109 for five at stumps, still trailing by 77 runs.

Shehzad Gul's maiden first-class five-for hands SNGPL advantage over SBP

The second day of the third round of President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 saw plenty of action at Karachi’s four venues with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) striving to get back to winning ways against State Bank of Pakistan, while Sahir Associates’ troubles continued.

Elsewhere, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) got ahead of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) after batting out the whole day with Ghani Glass putting Pakistan Television under pressure as the latter look to set a fighting target.

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) were left reeling at the State Bank Stadium as they were bundled out for 115 in 32.4 overs conceding a massive 148-run first innings deficit against SNGPL, who were 23-3 in turn at stumps.

Earlier, SNGPL added 66 runs to their overnight score of 197-4 and faced 12.5 overs early on day two before their innings was wrapped up. Shahid Aziz led the way for SBP with figures of 23.5-2-57-4. Niaz Khan and Mohammad Ismail picked up two wickets each.

SBP’s batting could not withstand the pace of Shehzad Gul, who bagged a maiden first-class five-for (11.4-1-37-5) and Shahnawaz Dahani, who picked up four for 23 in 11 overs. Rameez Aziz (43, 46b, 4x4s, 3x6s) and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (33, 43b, 4x4s, 1x6) top scored in SBP’s meagre 115-run total in first innings.

With the ball in second innings, SBP’s Mohammad Abbas (7-2-11-2) and Niaz Khan (6-3-12-1) eked out the valuable scalps of SNGPL’s Azan Awais, Ali Zaryab and Omair Bin Yousuf to leave them 19-3 as night watcher Mohammad Ali and Shan Masood saw off the remaining 17 balls.

KRL were 305-5 after they faced 90 overs on day two as they got 61 runs ahead of OGDCL at the NBP Sports Complex. Waqar Ahmed (81, 107b, 10x4s) and Saad Baig (80, 128b 10x4s) put on 162 runs for the second wicket to lay the foundation for the first innings lead.

Imran Rafiq was unbeaten on 54 off 152 balls hitting five fours, while Junaid Ali and Sarmad Bhatti had contributed 34 and 24 runs, respectively. For OGDCL, Adil Amin, Mushtaq Ahmed, Muhammad Imran and Mohammad Huzaifa picked up one wicket each.

Sahir Associates were made to follow-on at the UBL Sports Complex as they fell for 103 in 39.2 overs in response to WAPDA’s first innings total of 323 all out in 89.2 overs. In their second dig, Sahir closed the day two with 94-5 on the board in 30 overs.

WAPDA’s charge in the second bowling innings was led by right-arm pacer Mohammad Zeeshan who ripped through Sahir’s top-order with impressive spell of four for 18 in 11 overs including four maidens.

Mohammad Saleem was unbeaten on 25 off 82 balls at stumps, while Fahad Usman (28, 37b, 4x4s) and Ahmar Ashfaq (20, 37b, 4x4s) got starts but couldn’t convert. In the first innings, WAPDA’s Mohammad Adil bagged four for 24, while he was aided by Naqeebullah and Zeeshan, who both snapped three scalps each in Sahir’s demolition.

Skipper Asim Ali Nasir’s 99-ball 58 comprising of 10 fours was not enough for Sahir, while their unbeaten batter following-on, Saleem contributed a 74-ball 21 in first innings.

Earlier, WAPDA could only add 16 runs to their overnight total of 307-6 as Sahir took just 34 balls to wrap up their innings with Razaullah and Khan Zaib picking up four wickets each.

PTV closed the day two with 153-7 in 49 overs in their second innings against Ghani Glass as they led by 116 runs at the National Bank Stadium. After conceding a 37-run first innings deficit, PTV’s second dig began with more trouble with the defending champions slipping to 68-5 in 21.5 overs.

Mohammad Suleman (45, 72b, 6x4s) and Arafat Minhas (34, 55b, 4x4s, 1x6) then stitched a valuable 65-run stand halting Ghani Glass’ audacious advance. Mir Hamza then removed Arafat to bring an end to the resistance in 37th over, while skipper Noman Ali picked up Suleman in the 47th over.

Amad Butt (13 not out, 48b, 1x4) and Musa Khan (2 not out) were on the crease when stumps were drawn. For Ghani Glass Test bowlers Hamza and Noman picked up two wickets each, while Khurram Shahzad and Afaq Afridi were also in the wickets column taking one scalp each

Amad’s 10-wicket match haul, Musa’s hat-trick take PTV to routing victory over Ghani Glass

The third day of the third round of President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 saw Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) beat Sahir Associates by an innings and 32 runs, while Pakistan Television (PTV) bagged an 88-run win as action took place at four venues across Karachi on Sunday.

Amad Butt’s match figures of 10-80 and Musa Khan’s second hat-trick in a space of five first-class games led PTV to an emphatic 88-run victory – their second in the tournament – after conceding a first-innings deficit of 37 runs at the National Bank Stadium.

Chasing 157 to win, Ghani Glass were consigned to a mere 68 all out in 14 overs as Amad and Musa ran riot with the ball. Amad completed his bag of six wickets – his 9th haul of five or more in first-class cricket – in just 29 balls as Ghani Glass slipped to 23-7 in 8.5 overs. This was also the second time he collected a 10-fer in the format.

A 45-run stand between Test players Noman Ali (23, 15b, 4x4s) and Khurram Shahzad (22, 15b, 2x4s, 1x6) saved Ghani Glass from immediate collapse. Musa wrapped up the innings by knocking off Khurram, Mir Hamza and Afaq Afridi on last three balls of 14th over.

Zeeshan bested his previous innings figures of five for 37 with six for 66 in 18 overs and collected match figures of 9-89 eclipsing his 7-129 against SNGPL in last iteration of the departmental four-day event. His second first-class five-for didn’t let Sahir erase the 126-run overnight deficit as they resumed day three with 94-5 in 30 overs.

Mohammad Adil backed Zeeshan with three for 65 taking his match tally to 7-89. Sahir’s no.9 batter Mohammad Mohsin Khan blasted a 53-ball 51 including six fours and three sixes but in vain.

SNGPL needed two wickets, while SBP required another 54 runs to win as they were 170-8 at close of play at the State Bank Stadium after an eventful day three.

Chasing 224 for a win, SBP slumped to 31-4 and then 125-7 as Abdullah Fazal (41, 73b, 5x4s) and Rameez Aziz (29, 40b, 2x4s, 1x6) salvaged their innings, while Qasim Akram took them to close with five fours-laden 33 not out off 54 balls.

The second day of the fourth round of President’s Trophy Grade-I saw Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) extend their dominance over State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) with a monumental first innings lead at the SBP Sports Complex as action took place across four venues in Karachi.

KRL were 365-8 in 128 overs at close of play in their first innings and 259 runs ahead of SBP as Waqar Ahmed and Sarmad Bhatti ground the opposition to dirt with gritty centuries and an unrelenting 129-run stand for the fifth wicket after they got together at 158-4.

Opening batter Umar Siddiq led the way for OGDCL with a dogged half-century (79, 180b, 7x4s) after putting on 86-run stand with fellow opener Israrullah (30, 66b, 5x4s). No.3 batter Haroon Arshad stayed in the middle for 71 balls scoring 23 runs inclusive of two fours.

Opening batters Khawaja Arham (68, 117b, 9x4s, 2x6s) and Kashif Ali (53, 101b, 6x4s, 1x6) did well to erase the 81-run first innings deficit with 107-run stand at the top. Mohsin Riaz (22 not out, 64b, 2x4s) and Tayyab Tahir (21 not out, 36b, 4x4s) were unbeaten on the crease.

PTV pull off the unthinkable, successfully defending a target of just 40 against SNGPL to win by 2 runs. This is the lowest target ever defended in the 253 years history of first-class cricket anywhere in the world.

Unbelievable stuff..

to add an interesting colour to events, the winning captain is im guessing the youngest in the competiion, and the losing captain is the captian of the national team.

Embarrassing level of batting in that chase. Guys holing out to the deep, dropping the bat, commentators literally laughing at one point.
you would need some stupid batting to break a record like this, but credit where its due the fielding was surprsingly good, a lot of sharp catches held all over the field.

Awful batting considering they had the national captain and a top order of four of the more promising young bats in the country. But credit also to PTV and especially to Ali Usman who has had a great year and deserves to be considered for the national team.

It is a legitimate win. Teams can collapse. India collapsed for 36, Sydney Thunder for 15. It happens.

Superb catching I have to say.

Ali, Amad rout SNGPL as PTV defends lowest-ever total in first-class history

Karachi, 16 January 2026:

The third day of the fourth round of President’s Trophy Grade-I entered the first-class history record books as Pakistan Television (PTV) ran riot at the National Bank Stadium on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) put Sahir Associates under pressure, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) neared a win against State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The fixture between Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) hung in balance as both the teams sensed victory with 135 runs left to surmount or five wickets remaining to be taken for a victory.

Left-arm spinner Ali Usman and right-arm pacer Amad Butt bowled 9.4 and 10 overs, respectively on the trot as PTV dismissed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for a mere 37 in 19.4 overs, who were chasing 40 to win. This was the lowest total ever successfully defended in the history of first-class cricket overcoming Oldfield’s successful defence of 41 against MCC at the Lord’s Old Ground in August 1794.

Ali – playing his first game in the tournament after becoming best bowler in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26 – registered the best figures of his red-ball career including the decisive six for nine on day three and match haul of 10-75. He also picked up the first and final wicket in SNGPL’s torrid outing in second dig.

Amad picked up four for 28 in the second innings to back up his all-round performance of three for 42 and 46 not out with the bat in the first innings. SNGPL had slipped to 22-7 before Saifullah Bangash’s 35-ball 14 gave them slim hopes of a narrow win but not to be.

Earlier in the day, PTV were bowled out for 111 in 42.5 overs after resuming from overnight score of 99-5 in 36.5 as SNGPL’s Shehzad Gul continued his fine run of form with five for 28 – his third five-for in four innings bagging 20 scalps across two games.

Sajid Khan and Shahnawaz Dahani chipped in with three and two wickets, respectively as Mohammad Taha’s overnight vigil ended at 27 off 123 balls.

At the KCCA Stadium, Sahir Associates finished the day three with 147-8 on the board in 68.5 overs after conceding a meagre nine-run first innings deficit against OGDCL.

After Sahir were 65-3, Mohammad Faiq (48, 118b, 4x4s) and Ahmar Ashfaq (43, 70b, 7x4s) added some valuable runs before OGDCL spinners Danish Aziz, Jawad Ali and Asif Afridi effected a collapse of five for 10.

Earlier, OGDCL added 37 runs to their overnight score of 220-6 as Danish Aziz reached his half-century and then fell for 69 off 133 balls. Sahir’s left-arm spinner Rewayat Khan returned impressive figures of 26-9-59-5 on his debut, Hafiz Mohammad Suleman bagged four wickets.

SBP were on the brink of their third loss in the tournament as they had closed the day three with 289-9 in 76 overs in their second innings with a mere 27 runs lead against KRL at the SBP Sports Complex.

The mammoth first innings deficit of 262 runs took the spite out of the second innings contributions from SBP batters Qasim Akram (62, 78b, 7x4s, 1x6), Mohammad Huraira (54, 69b, 8x4s, 1x6), Hasan Raza (49, 85b, 8x4s), Shahid Aziz (42 not out, 51b, 3x4s, 2x6s) and Abdullah Fazal (35, 55b, 5x4s).

KRL’s pacer Ahmed Bashir bagged his ninth first-class five-for with figures of five for 80 in 24 overs, while Aqib Liaqat and Mohammad Hamza picked up two wickets each. Earlier, KRL’s first innings culminated for 368 all out after resuming from overnight score of 365-8.

SBP’s Niaz Khan picked up four wickets, while Shahid dismissed three batters.

At the UBL Sports Complex, WAPDA required another 135 runs to win against Ghani Glass as they were 108-5 in 36 overs at stumps with all top five batters back in the hut. WAPDA’s hope lie with skipper Khalid Usman and Bismillah Khan, who were yet to bat.

Ghani Glass’s charge was led by Noman Ali, who had picked up three of the five WAPDA wickets to fall stretching his match tally to 10 wickets and counting – his 10th haul of 10 wickets or more in a first-class game.

At the start of the day, Ghani Glass resumed their second innings from overnight score of 166-2 in 53 overs and fell for 323 in 92.3 overs, setting a 243-run target. Mohsin Riaz fell eight runs short of his century as he stretched his overnight 22 not out to 92 off 167 balls hitting 12 fours and one six.

There was not much resistance from Ghani Glass batters following Tayyab Tahir’s departure for 36 off 65 balls as WAPDA’s Khalid picked up four wickets, while Naqeebullah dismissed three batters.

The fifth round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 began with Pakistan Television’s (PTV) Shamyl Hussain and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s (SNGPL) Mubasir Khan scoring centuries as four venues in Karachi played host to the eight teams.

At the UBL Sports Complex, PTV closed the day one with 348-6 in 87 overs on the back of Shamyl’s 93-ball sixth first-class century (111, 104b, 12x4s, 6x6s). He also put on a 167-run opening stand with Waqar Hussain (69, 118b, 10x4s) to put the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) bowlers under pressure.

No.3 batter Mohammad Taha remained unbeaten for 82 off 166 balls hitting nine fours, while Mohammad Mohsin chipped in with a 47 off 75 balls. KRL picked four of the six wickets after PTV had crossed the 300-run mark as pacer Mohammad Hamza ended with three for 77 and Aqib Liaqat with two for 73.

Mubasir Khan (113 not out, 171b, 12x4s) and Muhammad Awais Zafar’s (71, 148b, 8x4s, 1x6) unbeaten 201-run stand for the fifth wicket took SNGPL to 308 for 4 in 86 overs after they had slipped to 107-4 at the National Bank Stadium.

Mir Hamza snared three wickets, while his fellow Test pacer Khurram Shahzad struck once.

Following Abid Ali’s golden duck, Azan Awais (44, 75b, 5x4s), Omair Bin Yousuf (12, 25b, 2x4s) and Abdul Samad (36, 98b, 1x4) got starts but couldn’t convert them to big scores. Mubasir, who struck his fifth first-class ton, and Awais, together faced 52.5 overs to frustrate Ghani Glass bowlers.

Karachi, 23 January 2026:

The third day of the fifth round of President’s Trophy saw plenty of action across the four venues, notably Ghani Glass falling flat against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL), but then responding well towards the end of the day.

Khan Research Laboratories’ (KRL) Hamza Nazar and Imran Rafiq put on a double-century partnership against Pakistan Television (PTV) in a brilliant act of defiance and attack.

Ghani Glass were made to follow-on by SNGPL at the National Bank Stadium as pacer Shehzad Gul registered his best first-class figures in an innings, bagging seven for 51. SNGPL skittled Ghani Glass for 201 as they lost eight for 90, conceding a 251-run deficit.

Shehzad, who also completed 50 wickets in the red-ball format, continued his fine form with fourth five-for in five innings across last three first-class games while also taking his tally of scalps to 27 in the tournament.

Ghani Glass were sailing at 111-2 after resuming from overnight score of 37-2 before the slump set in as they slipped to 164-5 and then 201 all out.

They lost Tayyab Tahir for 55 off 130 balls including five fours, while no.7 batter Saad Nasim chipped in with a 55-ball 47 but in vain. No.5 batter Hammad Butt stuck around for 62 balls, scoring 33 runs with the help of four fours, while opener Kashif Ali (27, 53b, 5x4s) was the only other Ghani Glass batter to cross the 20-run mark.

Shahnawaz Dahani backed up Shehzad’s figures of 16.5-3-51-7, with three for 73 in 18 overs.

In reply, Ghani Glass responded well as they reached the close of play on day three with 125 runs on the board for the loss of a solitary wicket in 29 overs, further trailing by another 126 runs. Opening batter Khawaja Arham led from front with a fluent 81 not out off 108 balls striking 10 fours and two sixes.

Dahani struck early to scare Ghani Glass, who promoted no.3 batter Yahya Abdul Rehman to open but he fell for a four-ball duck. Hammad, promoted from no.5 to 3, then put on a 119-run unbeaten stand with Arham holding one end tight with a 63-ball 35 not out with the help of four fours.

KRL resumed the day three from overnight score of 88-4 in 26.1 overs and were bowled out for 434 in 108.5 overs, gaining a slim 20-run first innings lead over PTV at the UBL Sports Complex.

After KRL slipped to 126-5, Imran Rafiq and Hamza Nazar came together to put on a mammoth 207-run stand to deny PTV any chance of a first innings lead. Imran struck his seventh first-class century accumulating 170 off 245 balls hitting 27 fours and one six.

Hamza peeled off his maiden first-class century in style as he remained unbeaten for 175 off 202 balls with the highlight being his 10 sixes along with 14 fours in the 316-minute outing.

For PTV, Ali Usman picked up his 11th first-class five-for returning figures of 37.5-8. 117-5, while Amad Butt took two wickets.

In turn, PTV copped three losses in just 7.1 overs with opening duo Shamyl Hussain and Waqar Hussain falling for 17 and five, respectively. Night watcher Ali Usman fell for a nine-ball duck as KRL’s Mohammad Hamza picked up three for five in his four overs.

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) managed a 60-run first innings lead over Sahir Associates and then picked up three wickets for 44 runs in the second innings when the stumps were drawn at the SBP Sports Complex.

Mohammad Abbas’ frugal figures of 9-5-9-2 meant Sahir’s top three batters struggled to get off the blocks as Mohammad Faiq fought to the end with 18 not out off 34 balls hitting two fours.

Earlier, Sahir Associates’ pacer Razaullah returned figures of 23-4-88-5 following his 5-37 against OGDCL in previous round, as SBP were bowled out for 300 in 94 overs after they resumed the day from 73-1 in 39 overs. Half-centuries from opening batter Abdullah Fazal (76, 158b, 10x4s) and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (67, 74b, 10x4s) ensured SBP gained the first innings lead.

Abdullah and Huraira (32, 78b, 7x4s) stitched an 80-run stand. Ali Shan (30, 69b, 3x4s) and Rameez Aziz (31, 60b, 3x4s) got starts but couldn’t convert them.

Only 47.1 overs of play was possible at the KCCA Stadium as Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) struggled against Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) as they closed the day with 117-6 in 45 in their second innings managing a meagre 69-run lead.

WAPDA began their first innings from overnight score of 203-7 in 71.2 overs and were dismissed for 207 in 73.3 overs as they gained a 48-run first innings lead. KRL’s Asif Afridi registered his 19th first-class five-for as he picked up five for five for 66 in 31.3 overs, while leg-spinner Ali Jawad dismissed four batters.

In turn, left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar took 4-35 in 18 overs to leave OGDCL in trouble. Following Haroon Arshad (37, 84b, 4x4s) and Sameer Saqib’s (25, 56b, 5x4s) 46-run stand for the second wicket, OGDCL lost five for 63.

Danish Aziz was unbeaten on 18 off 47 balls, while Jawad Ali faced 19 balls for no run as stumps were drawn.

On Friday, KRL were faced with the daunting task of overhauling the remaining 120 runs to the 234-run target with four wickets left, for a win, or bat out the day to save the game against a bowling line-up comprising a Test pacer in Mohammad Ali and Test spinner in Sajid Khan.

SNGPL took 25.1 overs to take the remaining four wickets as KRL skipper Iftikhar Ahmed and Hamza Nazar resisted with a 56-run seventh-wicket stand on both ends of the stumps. Iftikhar faced 176 balls for 63 runs but eventually fell victim to player of the match Ali, who pinned him leg-before.

Hamza fell for 32 off 76 balls striking two fours, while the nos. 9, 10 and 11 only faced a combined total of 41 balls before SNGPL made their way to victory. Apart from Ali’s outstanding figures of 20.1-5-42-4, left-arm spinner Mohammad Irfan picked up three for 24, while Sajid dismissed two batters.

SNGPL, Ghani Glass, Sahir Associates register victories on day three of last round

Karachi, 4 February 2026: Three out of the four matches of the seventh and last round of President’s Trophy Grade-I were decided on Wednesday with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Ghani Glass and Sahir Associates emerging winners, while State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) were in lead against Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

Joint-table toppers SNGPL romped to their fifth win in the tournament as they restricted Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) to 148 runs after setting them a target of 172 runs on day three at the UBL Sports Complex.

Test spinner Sajid Khan claimed his 24th first-class five-for returning figures of 23-3-71-5, while he was backed up by pacer Shehzad Gul who dismissed three batters.

OGDCL slipped from 39 for no loss with Imam-ul-Haq (24, 41b, 2x4s) and Maaz Sadaqat (13, 36b, 1x4) on the crease before Sajid made inroads. OGDCL lost five for 26 as Sajid plucked top three, while Shehzad and Mohammad Ali snapped one each.

Umar Siddiq’s 75-ball 26, Arsal Sheikh’s 18 not out off 37 balls and no.11 Mohammad Amir Khan’s 41-ball 18 was not enough as OGDCL were bowled out for 148 in 55.3 overs. From 112-9, Arsal and Amir added 36 for the last wicket but in vain.

Earlier, SNGPL were dismissed for 181 in their second innings in 53.4 overs with Asif Afridi taking career best first-class match figures of 6-71 and 6-64, besting his previous 11-204. SNGPL had resumed from overnight score of 102-6 in 36 overs with a 92-run lead.

Unbeaten overnight batters Muhammad Awais Zafar (51, 80b, 6x4s, 1x6) and Aamir Jamal (31, 38b, 6x4s) helped SNGPL accumulate enough runs for a fighting total. Asif’s 21st first-class five-for was backed by pacer Mohammad Amir Khan, who picked up four for 74 in 20 overs.

At the KCCA Stadium, Ghani Glass beat Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) by an innings and 101 runs, their third win in the tournament.

Resuming their first innings on 343-9 in 107.4 overs on day three, Ghani Glass managed 354 in 113.1 overs in reply to KRL’s 189 all out. KRL’s off-spinner Hamza Nazar returned figures of 27.1-3-99-4.

With a massive 165-run first innings deficit ahead, KRL slumped to 64 all out in 20.4 overs as Ghani Glass’ pacer Shoaib Akhtar Jnr picked up his third first-class five-for, while player of the match Sameen dismissed four batters.

Shoaib registered outstanding analysis of 10-5-28-5, while Sameen completed 200 wickets in first-class cricket and his second 10-wicket match haul and best figures in the format of 10-73. The duo also bowled 20.4 overs in tandem.

Only Hamza Nazar (26, 26b, 4x4s) and Iftikhar Ahmed (10, 14b, 2x4s) managed to enter double figures for KRL.

At the Oval Academy Ground, Sahir Associates closed the tournament with a memorable 10-wicket win over defending champions PTV, who also crashed out of the race for the final.

Sahir’s third win in the tournament required a mere 17 runs in the second innings, which they hunted down in just three overs with Mohammad Faiq (12 not out, 7b, 3x4s) ending the campaign with exactly 500 runs in seven games.

Earlier, PTV resumed from overnight score of 19-3 in eight overs in second innings and were bundled out for 138 in 36.2 overs. They overcame the first innings deficit of 122 runs but could not set a target big enough to challenge Sahir Associates.

Skipper Hafiz Mohammad Suleman led Sahir Associates with figures of 8.2-3-21-4, while Razaullah and Khan Zeb dismissed two batters each.

SBP closed the day three with 262-3 in 48 overs in their second innings after conceding a slim 18-run first innings deficit. For SBP, Hasan Raza (38, 47b, 3x4s, 2x6s) and Abdullah Fazal (27, 46b, 4x4s) put on a 70-run stand before Muhammad Ghazi Ghori and Mohammad Huraira stitched together 148 runs for the third wicket.
