The Duke of Edinburgh pointed out a bearded man and asked if he was a terrorist, it has been claimed.

Onlookers are said to have heard the remark while the Duke was walking to Sandringham's St Mary Magdalene Church on New Year's Eve.

The 96-year-old reportedly made the comment when he spotted a tall man with a long ginger beard.

A witness, who claimed to have overheard the incident, was quoted by The Sun as saying: "The man appeared to be his with wife and child. Philip was wishing lots of people a Happy New Year and then he spotted this guy with his distinctive beard.

"He pointed at him in a funny way and turned to one of his Royal bodyguards, saying: 'Is that a terrorist?'

"He was obviously having a little joke, but he said it within earshot of the man who burst out laughing and appeared to find the whole thing hilarious. I think Philip knew he was going to be overheard."

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the claims.

The Queen, Princess Anne and Prince Edward also attended the morning service at the Norfolk church, where the Royals traditionally spend Christmas.

Prince Philip stepped down from Royal duties earlier this year after decades of service and more than 22,000 engagements.

Will be brushed under the carpet like the numerous other incidents of the royals being racist.

That's quite funny actually. Prince Philip is not racist, just a bit ignorant. I miss the days when people were not so PC (the 90s).

Its like us Muslims just need an excuse to feel "targeted" or "hurt" these days. Man up, folks.

Was the guy a Muslim?

Prince Philip is a disturbed old man who needs to kick the bucket asap. HE;s always been a fool and how do you know he's not a racist? He once asked if the Aborigines still throw spears.

:)) that was a good one.

It's quite a poor joke in reality, but as you live in Pakistan perhaps your sense of humour is more similar to 96 year old royal family members. Prince Philip would probably find it funny to see a white man dressing up as a black then singing "I got dese chocolate fingers, and I know dere gwanna please.."

Googling 'long ginger beard' leads to this:

I don't think there is anything to have Muslims offended.

I don't think there is anything to have Muslims offended.

I could be wrong, but it might be the correlation with terrorists that would be offensive, not the long ginger beard itself. Although you could make an argument for that as well.

Correlation of what with terrorists? In nowhere in the OP is the world Muslim even used. The only folks who can rightfully be offended in this case are those guys with orange beards.

Nowhere in his remark was the Orange word even used. Are beards associated with any other community apart Muslims and Sikhs? If he is correlating beard with terrorism, which community was he targeting?

Maybe nobody. Him pointing to a bearded man might have just been a coincidence, and he might have sensed some other one-off sign. Who knows.

Either way, it's hardly a reason for Muslims to be up in arms. Complete non-issue this.

Yes it might have been just a coincidence, and he might have sensed some other off sign. If you check my post which you replied to I said "I could be wrong, but it might be the correlation with terrorists that would be offensive".

Lots of possibilities, Muslims might be getting offended justifiably, or they might not. In which case might be you assumed they were when in fact it wasn't the case.

Prince Philip transferred back to King Edward VII hospital after surgery

The Duke of Edinburgh has left the NHS hospital where he had heart surgery and been moved back to the private King Edward VII’s hospital for continuing treatment, Buckingham Palace said.

Philip, 99, underwent a successful procedure for an existing heart condition at St Bartholomew’s hospital in the City of London on Wednesday, just three months before his 100th birthday.

The Palace said in a statement: “Following the Duke of Edinburgh’s successful procedure at St Bartholomew’s hospital on Wednesday, His Royal Highness has been transferred to King Edward VII’s Hospital this morning. The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for continuing treatment for a number of days.”

The duke has spent 17 nights hospital, his longest ever stay. He was initially admitted to King Edward VII’s, the royal family’s favoured hospital, in central London on 16 February after feeling unwell at Windsor Castle, before being moved by ambulance to St Bartholomew’s on Monday.

Concern will be heightened for the duke because of his advanced age, with the Duchess of Cornwall saying this week that he was “slightly improving” and adding: “We’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

The news was announced amid growing tensions within the royal family before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s televised Oprah interview. Meghan has said in an extract that she could not be expected to stay silent if “the firm” played a part in “perpetuating falsehoods” about her and Harry.

The Sussexes have faced calls for the broadcast on Sunday to be postponed out of respect for Philip.

Buckingham Palace, meanwhile, has begun an investigation into allegations which surfaced in the Times that Meghan drove out two personal assistants and “humiliated” staff, leaving them in tears, which she denies.
