Prithvi Shaw - Time to try him out?

Why was he not in the U19 side. Even though ranji is tougher, but he would have benefitted from playing under Dravid.

It's difficult to judge when is the best time to bring in a cricketer into the national team.

Probably, a super talented player like a Tendulkar or Kohli should be brought in to the national side after 1 year of domestics. Whereas, talented but not extraordinary ones, like Rahane, Dravid or Puajara should be asked to spend 4-5 years in domestics and develop the technique and the temperament and cushion it with bucket load of runs.

The question though is which category does Prithvi belong. I reckon, if he continues his form of scoring runs, then the former, otherwise the latter.

Ranji bowling is light years above what you get at U-19.And playing with seniors, he will learn lot of things.

He might go Parthiv Patel route if pushed into national limelight so early. Better for him to grind out for a couple of seasons then get into the team behind weight of runs.

Parthian Patel was a good talent, but not an extraordinary talent. Good talent need definitely need 3-4 seasons of first class cricket before being introduced into international cricket. Prithvi might be one of those special talents where he could be brought into international cricket early

Good luck to him, but I highly doubt that he is physically ready. Pace-heavy teams might intimidate him and he will need to be very brave to combat them.

He should be allowed to develop and grow for another 3-4 years. He might be the next Tendulkar, but it is not worth the risk.

Let's not count our chickens, have we forgotten about what happened to Mr. Unmukt Chand?

Unmukt chand didn't do this well in FC,mostly in u-19 wc.The only one in indian fc cricket history with this sort of start is tendulkar.Lets play him a whole fc season, then they should try him.

Give him two FC seasons atleast. Pant was also on fire in his debut season.

Having said that, I have no doubt he'll make it to the Indian team in 2-3 years. The way he crunched those exquisite cover drives off Ishant was a treat to watch.

And more impressively, he also scored a 66 against a proper NZ attack of Boult, Southee, Milne and Santner. (Tour match vs. NZ)

But still, we should let him play one or two seasons of FC cricket. If he continues to dominate, then we can say that he belongs to a higher level.

And apparently Trent Boult was quite impressed:

“I heard he was 17, I couldn’t quite believe it. He played very nicely. I think the ball swung around nicely at the start, and it didn’t seem to trouble him. He’s probably one of many who has a promising career ahead of him, if all things go well. But very impressed from the first look.”

Ha! I put the quotes in my reply to the thread too.

Yeah, the fact that Boult was impressed made me notice him a lot more. Hope he continues this way in FC and eventually turn out well for us.
